I have had these Yamaha NS-777's for over two years. They sound better as they age. But sounded great new. Matches my piano with its extreme glossy black finish. They have a tight musical bass, not boomy. The high's are clear but not shrill. I play classical & jazz music via CD's DVD's & a large collection of SACD's. These speakers produce a non-colorative true sound. They are apart of my 5.1 system connected to a Denon AVR-990/3310 rcvr & a Oppo 83 blu-ray. So, they are connected to mid - high end equipment. And they are able to reproduce the fine sound that this equipment produces. If you are considering buying, you must be aware that they are very big speakers & need a large room. Otherwise, a great speaker, very attractive and reasonably priced.

All the superlatives lavished on these speakers in the other reviews apply here. In short, if you are looking for a reasonably priced tower speaker with a clean, tight sound for your home theater or stereo music setup, these will not disappoint you.
Worth noting, you may not be inclined to install a sub-woofer at all, if you have enough reserve power to adequately feed these puppies. This is a matter of personal preference of course, but split roughly 50/50 between listening to a variety of digitally-sourced rock and acoustic music, and home theater use, the 777s sound good enough to me without the sub. Also worth noting, these finely crafted speakers are quite large, standing just under 4 feet tall and weighing over 50 pounds. In other words, they might not be the speaker for you, if you don't want your speakers to be a fairly dominant part of your decor.

I've had a pair of these speakers for over 2.5 years now. They sound absolutely great. I'm golden ears certified, and do high level audio engineering for live bands, and so I am picky about a really clean and crisp sound. These speakers have never disappointed me, and I would recommend them for almost any setup.

These sound amazingly close to my Dad's Bowers & Wilkins 704's, just not to that barely noticeable extreme high frequency. But at 1/5 the price I'm not complaining as they have not let me down in any way yet. These gorgeous speakers look and sound like they are worth more than $1000. And as for people saying these lack bass, that is not necessarily true because when I adjusted the bass from my receiver they rocked hard, deep, clear and powerful bass. Unless you are a complete bass head you won't need a subwoofer. They blew away my expectations for their price range and I HIGHLY recommend these to anyone looking for high quality speakers that look better than they sound without breaking the bank. These are a steal, remember to buy two as they are sold single, not in pairs. You can't go wrong with these speakers, and at only $350 including shipping is an incredible deal for what I consider entry Hi-Fi speakers.

I bought a pair of these to replace my Sony bookshelf front speakers and I don't regret a second of it. These babies deliver crisp, clear sound, which, when coupled with a sub-woofer, will shake the foundations. The set up was easy and the screw connections were effective and simple. I recommend this product to anyone who is looking for theater quality sound in their home.

everything that was promised was delivered. For the money you can't go wrong. Looks sharp, alot better than sony products, and 100 dollars cheaper than at sears.

These NS-777's replaced my 35 y/o Yamaha NS-690II front speakers whose woofers needed refoaming before they became the rear speakers in this 5.1 setup with a NS-444 center speaker and an old powered Sony subwoofer that is now the weak link. When powered by my new Yamaha RX-V1900BL receiver I have absolutely no complaints about this setup.

I've had these speakers for around 6 months now, and me and my wife love them. The sound quality is amazing; everything I put through them sounds clear and detailed. I had an older cheaper receiver paired with these speakers and they sounded great, but were lacking in bass. As soon as I upgraded the receiver, I didn't even need the sub. They shook the walls on their own. :) The speakers have an attractive finish and look even better with the grills on.

I've owned this pair of speakers for 5 years now and they still sound out of this world! Everyone that I've showed them to, the very first thing they comment on is how amazingly beautiful they look with a black piano finish. Once I fire these bad boys up, mine and everyone else's jaws hit the floor! Everyone thinks I spent Thousands and Thousands of dollars on them. I give this a 5 star rating and they are a Must Buy.

If you just happend to stumble accross this speaker or the ONE you are seeking out, this is one of the best values for a brand new floorstanding speaker you can find on the net!! I paid $400 for a pair with shipping and after listening to Klipsch speakers for many years I was at first reluctant to "settle" for something else. Let me tell you after I received them I hooked them up as front speakers to my home theater with Klipsch speakers for the surround and 12" subwoofer with a Onkyo receiver pushing 110w rms 7 ways. My first concern was that at high levels the speakers would distort, but that was imedietely tossed out as these babies would take whatever I would give them and they would just SING!! The highs were crisp and clean and the mids didn't miss a beat. I wouldn't necessarily say there is a lack of bass, as these are designed to be matched with a subwoofer, however, they do put out some respectable lows when used as a 2 channel. The cabinet is a beautiful piano finish which alone makes it look like a $1,000 pair of speakers! A unique and elegant looking speaker with the amazing sound to follow up and all for a reasonable price!!!

I've pushed them pretty hard over the years, but they are still crisp, clear, and putting out great sound! I see they are selling about twice what I paid back then, but I would definitely say they are still worth the price and would happily buy them again!! Awesome speakers that are very well built and designed that sound amazing!!

I ordered these speakers without ever hearing them. Assuming that Yamaha's experience in the music industry would help them build a great speaker. My assumtion was correct. Now don't get me wrong these aren't the best speakers on the market by any means, But they offer the most bang for the buck in my opinion. A pair of JBL towers with dual 8inch subs will cost you twice as much and won't sound any better. These speakers have crisp highs and punchy mids, but they do sometimes lack in the lower end. On movies were there are big explosions the speakers shake the house, but sometimes when listening to music the bass is lacking. Although I am now begining to believe it may be related to the recording more than the speakers, as I bought the Master and Commander sound track and all of the music sounds amazing when played through them. I also believe that these speakers were made to go with one of Yamahas 140w a channel amplifiers, I have a sony 100w per channel and I think that a little extra power would give these speakers the extra juice they need to over come the bass problem. Overall this speaker offers great cost to performance value and at just over $300 for the pair you can add a subwoofer and still have a less exspensive set than what JBL offers and it will sound better.

I bought a pair of NS777 to replace bose 501 series V speakers. I am truly amazed with the quality compared to the bose ones. I never like the bose speakers, they were hard to equalize and I always felt like they were yelling at me all the time no matter what settings I would have the receiver on. The NS777 are affordable speakers ($169 each) with a sound quality that brought back my passion for listening to music including classical music. I have them connected to an onkyo TX-SR804 and they have been working great together, now I just feel like I need to replace my center speaker, a bose VCS-10, that also "yells" at me when compared to the Yamaha NS777. I am extremely happy with my purchase and would highly recommend them to anyone in a tight budget. It works great with movies as well.

I purchased these NS777 to compliment my entertainment center decor. The speakers look nice and have an expensive look (Glossy Piano Finish). However the sound lacks deep bass. They make excellent speakers as front channels for a theater system but you will need a separate subwoofer to appreciate and feel the low frequencies (thump) from your music or movies. The speakers are excellent in reproducing the high frequency sounds. You can really hear crisp sound from the tweeters. These were an excellent buy for the money.

I'm no audiophile, but I know good speakers when I hear them. These play all ranges of music and movies very well. There is not as much low-end bass as I would expect from 2 8" drivers unless I add it from the receiver (Sony STR-DA1000ES). My receiver only pushes 100 watts/channel, which I was worried would not be enough... I was wrong. Eric Clapton and the Eagles never sounded so good! If you're looking for high quality sound with tight bass notes and crisp highs, these are your speakers. If you're looking for a booming sound for Rap or Action movies, I would suggest complementing these with a subwoofer.
Lastly, the "piano" black finish on the outside of these speakers is spectacular. Everyone thinks they are way more expensive than they are because of the finish and size. Just be careful when taking them out of the box so as not scratch the finish.
