There's really not much to say when reviewing an internal HDD unless one receives a lemon or run into problems during installation or use. I installed this HDD into my existing computer which already had a main drive with WindowsXP installed. I partitioned, formatted and assigned drive letters to the drive. I then downloaded WD's Align utility to optimize the Advanced Format drive to work efficiently with WindowsXP. I then proceeded to transfer some test folders and files from ripped Blu-ray movies which were about 80GB in total size. Everything went fine...the drive functioned like any other normally functioning HDD. It wasn't any louder or hotter than my existing 1TB Hitachi drive.With that said, this is an Advanced Format drive which means if you're running an older OS like WindowsXP it is recommended that you run WD's Align utility which is available at WD's website. Specs on this drive are good for a budget level drive...SATA III (6Gbps) with 64MB of cache. It's designed to not use a lot of power given that it's part of Western Digital's Green series ECO drives. The price is competitive with other recognized brands out there. Many people say this is perfect as a secondary or storage drive but I've used these before as main drives for programs and OS and they work fine for that purpose too. I have the previous model WD Green 2 TB Desktop Hard Drive: 3.5 Inch, SATA III, 64 MB Cache - WD20EARX installed in another PC and it's still working fine. So far so good..will update review if the drive encounters premature failure or other related issues.

This is about the 10th WD hard drive I've installed in the last 6 years. Never had any problems with WD and this one I expect to be the same. After 8 days of use, the drive is working perfectly. It transfers faster than my 2 other Western Digital Caviar Green 2 TB SATA II 32 MB Cache Bulk/OEM Internal Desktop Hard Drive - WD20EADS that I have installed. I credit it to the SATA III (data transfer speed) and 64 MB cache (temporary memory) improvements.For those new to WD drives... the "green" models are low power consumption, low heat, and higher storage capacity models. So they are best for storing files like music, movies, etc. The "black" models use a bit more power, produce more heat, and transfer files at faster speeds (drive spin RPMs). So they are best for your boot drive with Windows and your other programs installed on it. Then there is the "Raptor" line. Those are extremely fast (almost as fast as SSD drives) but have smaller storage size. They are best for gaming and video processing computers.If you are shopping for a new HDD for file storage, you can't go wrong with this.

I usually buy my computer hardware from Newegg.com. I had just purchased a Seagate drive from them and thought I would shop around a little for another one just to check pricing. I found this one, that is not only faster, but just the same size... and about $40.00 cheaper! Yay!!! So far so good. I have always liked Western Digital drives and have not had one go out on me (knock on wood). They are economical and sturdy in my experience. And you couldn't ask for a better price for this drive. I have a Mac Pro and it works flawlessly. I have mostly WD's internally, but have a contraption that I can use that allows me to hotswap and use internal drives as external ones (also found cheaper here on Amazon!) -- I'd recommend this in a heartbeat. Can't go wrong, and a very good price for quality.

The hard-drive is quiet. I personally do not care about noise level on my home rig, I consider it a bigger factor for my office/work rigs.I use it for a data drive - music, movies and I also save a few imgs of my main partition and back up a time machine image for my mac. And, for older games that I do not care about performance/load times on in Steam.My primary drive is a SSD drive, it's important to have a data drive to handle chores that require extensive I/O writes when your primary drive is a SSD. Keeps the load off, hopefully sustains and extends the life of your SSD.I work IT - I recommend WD-green series to most of my clients for day-to-day office use and backups. Good, solid, all-around drive, but if you are performance/power hungry then switch to the Black series or buy a ssd.

We have been using the predecessor to this model for a few years and while they aren't designed for enterprise use, when we first started using 2TB drives in '09, the Green ones were about $325 each and we couldn't afford the enterprise versions, even if they were available.They have worked very well, with about a 12% failure rate, despite being used more intensely than consumer drives are expected to be. Also, while the 5400 RPM drives measure slower than the 7200 RPM's, for many uses we don't see an effective difference.This new model also seems to perform well, though my experience is limited.Having said all of this, I think I'd look at the Red series were I buying right now. The prices are comparable, and I think now that the Red is out, I think I'd tend to prefer them.

This drive is perfect. 2TB is a great addition to my existing farm of drives in my production tower. When full, it will hold over 280,000 photographs. I shoot 22mp raw and then I extract the ones I will use to jpeg, so the end total is likely to be 350,000 files. I love how fast this is and the fact that there was no noticeable increase in noise when it was added to my system.For as long as I can remember, from the beginning of my career 21 years ago, Western Digital has always been a name you can trust in hard drives, and that is why this drive will be drive #5 with the WD logo inside my tower.Don't hesitate - this is a drive you can trust.

I formatted the drive and was able to use it(the device, a home server, I was planning to use it in, malfunctioned)the drive itself functions as it should, very quiet. I am using it for backups right now and not anything critical so I can't attest to it's endurance or longevity but it purrs along and the transfer speeds are good. I know all hard drives have a problem with failures so I am leery at giving it 5 stars until I would use it for a while. I would recommend this drive, I have had no problems with it and my computer was able to recognize it immediately.

Amazon needs a zero star rating!! I just had my fourth (FOURTH) WD Green SATAIII drive failure. Oh, did i mention i bought these almost 12 months ago to the date of the FOURTH FAILURE!! WD used to make top notch drives, but these drives are absolute garbage. LUCKILY i have these in that good ol' WD My Book World NAS device and i didn't lose all my pictures, video, etc. DO not trust your valuable files to these drives without some sort of backup or mirroring plan. I'm going with enterprise class drives now as these are absolute trash!

My husband created a media server for our house so I can stream any music & watch any videos from my iPad in the kitchen or anywhere on our wifi network. Previously all the media was in different places, but he has consolidated it for us on this hard drive, run on a desktop "media pc" (as he calls it). I love it!

Hard drives were delivered in protective packaging that shielded them from the elements nicely. Very wet conditions at the time. No damage to drives at all. Have them both in a nas right now, and they are humming right along. These drive are very reliable and have been using them in different sizes for a while now with no issues. Highly recommend them to anyone.

This HDD seems like a good drive, and a good price for the size, but it's still too early to tell if it's worth 5 stars. Have to see if it lasts for a long period of time before I'll give it that high of a rating. But after 2 months or so, I'm quite happy with it.

It's a good deal in terms of the amount of storage and what it costs. I do notice a difference in speed between it and the failing Seagate Barracuda it replaced, though - it's slower. If I'd known the speed difference would be that much I would have gone with a 1TB caviar black, I'd take speed over size, 1 TB is plenty. I'll never fill 2.

I have had bad luck with W D hard drives. 2 out of 6 failed within 3 years. Buy at your own risk, and back up everything. It was on sale so I grabbed it, but I will I will back it up. My last W D 1 TB drive died and I didn't have some of the important files backed up. I was quoted $49.00 to look at it, $700 to $1,000.00 to retrieve some data with no guarantee. Remember, Jesus saves!

I'm using this in an external SATA/USB drive housing to backup a couple of Macbook laptops and to archive (very large) virtual machine image files. Works just fine. I've probably got about 15 or so Western Digital drives in various systems and RAID arrays around here. I've always been happy with their performance and quality.

The green series hard drives are fantastic from WD! I have 4 of them running all day in an office setting and I have never had one fail. They work great, they work long, and they run cooler than most hard drives from WD.I've had a black one fail after some extended use, but these have yet to give me any grief. I'm currently using 2 of them in a NAS setting, and what do you know, they keep reading and writing all day long.

Perfect as a secondary storage device and actually as a master drive. Previously used the older models of these drives which lasted about 2 1/2 years. Hope to buy more of these soon as well if these great prices last. As a wedding planner the storage for wedding photos, videos and invitations was super, even better that when I also found my wedding email address free at wedding.me to help with organizing all wedding stuff.

Since 2009, I have been running a Addonics HPM-XA hardware raid. I initial used 4x1TB WD Green drives which ran without any issues until early 2012. I then upgraded to 4x2TB drives which are running fine without any issues. I am mainly using it to serve media, attached to a media server. I get around 80-100MB/s read-write performance in a RAID5 setup. I have bought an additional 2TB WD Green drive in case one of the drives in my RAID fails. No issues so far.

This unit was easy to install on my iMac. Pretty much plug and play.Beware for iMac users, time machine does not remember your OS, just data, so you will need to have your OS boot disks and upgrades.Great value, runs like a champ.

This is a very good performing hard disk in terms of general speed and energy usage. It appears to be well built, very quiet and very smooth in operation. The true benchmark is reliability and longevity for me. Over the years I have owned base consumer level drives to enterprise and high end SSD's. Price has never been good measure of just how long and how reliable a disk has been---I have had the cheapest last forever and the so called high end fail.

No problem under Windows 7 cloning old drive to this new one to have more room and less likelihood of failure of the boot drive.Watch out if you clone under Windows 8 with secure boot using Acronis Tru Image. Read online comments or you might have an unbootable computer.

Installed in an iMac. Backwards compatible to earlier SATA spec without jumpering. Product was delivered promptly, and worked without any headaches. Quieter than the Seagate it replaced.

I am considering implementing a RAID configuration on a 6 month old Dell XPS 8500 and this drive is similar to the drive that came with the Dell, which I believe is necessary for the RAID to work properly. I am still doing my research on the RAID configuration and I won't do anything until I am certain that I know exactly what I am doing. Right now I am simply using the drive in a backup capacity.
