It's a good deal in terms of the amount of storage and what it costs. I do notice a difference in speed between it and the failing Seagate Barracuda it replaced, though - it's slower. If I'd known the speed difference would be that much I would have gone with a 1TB caviar black, I'd take speed over size, 1 TB is plenty. I'll never fill 2.

I have had bad luck with W D hard drives. 2 out of 6 failed within 3 years. Buy at your own risk, and back up everything. It was on sale so I grabbed it, but I will I will back it up. My last W D 1 TB drive died and I didn't have some of the important files backed up. I was quoted $49.00 to look at it, $700 to $1,000.00 to retrieve some data with no guarantee. Remember, Jesus saves!

I'm using this in an external SATA/USB drive housing to backup a couple of Macbook laptops and to archive (very large) virtual machine image files. Works just fine. I've probably got about 15 or so Western Digital drives in various systems and RAID arrays around here. I've always been happy with their performance and quality.

The green series hard drives are fantastic from WD! I have 4 of them running all day in an office setting and I have never had one fail. They work great, they work long, and they run cooler than most hard drives from WD.I've had a black one fail after some extended use, but these have yet to give me any grief. I'm currently using 2 of them in a NAS setting, and what do you know, they keep reading and writing all day long.

Perfect as a secondary storage device and actually as a master drive. Previously used the older models of these drives which lasted about 2 1/2 years. Hope to buy more of these soon as well if these great prices last. As a wedding planner the storage for wedding photos, videos and invitations was super, even better that when I also found my wedding email address free at wedding.me to help with organizing all wedding stuff.

Since 2009, I have been running a Addonics HPM-XA hardware raid. I initial used 4x1TB WD Green drives which ran without any issues until early 2012. I then upgraded to 4x2TB drives which are running fine without any issues. I am mainly using it to serve media, attached to a media server. I get around 80-100MB/s read-write performance in a RAID5 setup. I have bought an additional 2TB WD Green drive in case one of the drives in my RAID fails. No issues so far.

This is a very good performing hard disk in terms of general speed and energy usage. It appears to be well built, very quiet and very smooth in operation. The true benchmark is reliability and longevity for me. Over the years I have owned base consumer level drives to enterprise and high end SSD's. Price has never been good measure of just how long and how reliable a disk has been---I have had the cheapest last forever and the so called high end fail.

I am considering implementing a RAID configuration on a 6 month old Dell XPS 8500 and this drive is similar to the drive that came with the Dell, which I believe is necessary for the RAID to work properly. No problems so far. 2T drive works on my Mac just fine. I can't say how durable it is byt my old WD drive worked to the end of computer's life while Seagate H drives broke 2x on me and one had almost 4x less memory than labelled (returned of course).
