This HDD is terribly loud compared to other HDD I have had, I used to have an old 120GB Samsung that was far better, then I just bought a 2TB Samsung and it is also more silent by far.Regarding performance it has done it well but it's been just 3 months since I got it, about reliability I won't make good reputation to WD because my other WD myBook failed after 2 years of use and I don't have high hope with this one, I don't know why I bought WD it in the first place, I guess it was for the price but if possible just add another 20bugs and buy Samsung or Seagate, you won't regret it, I bought WD and I am now afraid I will lost data in a couple of years.My Rig:ASUS P8Z68-V PRO Motherboard.Intel Core i5-2500K 3.3GHzCorsair Vengeance Blu 8 GB PC3-12800 1600mHz DDR3Case Coller Master Storm Enforcer.Corsair Enthusiast Series 750-WattCrucial 64 GB m4olid State DriveWestern Digital 1 TB Caviar Blue SATA III 7200 RPM (not a good choice)Spinq Vt Cpu Cooler Spinq Vt Cpu CoolerASUS VH238H 23-Inch LED Monitor

I ordered two of these drives: one to host my operating system (OS) and one as a back up drive. The one I was using for back up at first initialized and formatted correctly, but then the OS wouldn't recognize it anymore or allow the partition to be deleted and reformatted. I received a replacement for it from Amazon and it is working fine. Luckily I hadn't transferred any data to the drive while it was working because then I wouldn't have been able to wipe the drive prior to returning it.I have no idea what was wrong with the one I returned, but I can only chalk it up to bad luck. In all my research before buying this drive, it seems like every manufacturer has problems, depending on what reviews you read, so I can't say it's an inherent problem with Western Digital.The best part of the whole affair was Amazon's customer service. It was extremely easy to request a return, get a pre-paid shipping label, then ship it back. Amazon even shipped the replacement before I shipped the bad drive back, and at no extra charge.

I purchased the Western Digital 1 Tb Sata 6.0 Gb-s 32 MB Cache 3.5-Inch Internal Bare-oem Drive WD10EALX from Midwest Memory Outlet through Amazon. The drive was received within 3 or 4 days and was packaged extremely well. My original Seagate drive from my HP m9550F failed and was replace by the WD. The Seagate was the drive that HP kept shipping after a drive bios error was long known about. Information from the internet showed that lots of people lost valuable data because HP just kept shipping a drive with a known problem. Anyhow, I did get a bios update for the Seagate before it failed but it ended up failing anyhow.The WD10EALX drive is fairly loud. I still have the drive located outside the case so that may contribute to the sound level. The noise seems to be from the head movement. The platter spin is silent. For the price this is one drive that is hard to beat and I am well pleased with it. My bios can't take advantage of the 6 Gb/s transfer rate but the drive is plenty fast just the same. I have loaded around 600 gig of data onto it. After around 3 weeks I'll assume it will not fail and put the case back together. If it fails I'll update this review. I noticed on NewEgg that a few failures were being reported. Not the long-term ones but the more likely out of the box ones. Here's keeping my fingers crossed. (Boot drive failures are a pain).UPDATE:OK. I put the case back together. The drive is not silent but it is pretty quiet. I can hear just faint clicks as it does its thing. Very nice. No problems with the drive at all. Recommended.

This Western Digital 500 GB Hard Drive installed easily and works perfectly in my Zmodo Surveillance System with 8 Weatherproof IR Cameras PKD-DK0865-NHD. A 500 GB drive was the smallest size I wanted to use since that will provide roughly 168 hours of recording time in my security system. The drive is fast enough to keep up with the video feeds and is not very noisy when in use.This works well for my needs!Highly Recommended!CFH

Ships without the jumper, and Western Digital refuses to ship me one. I called technical support and they told me to buy it on Best Buy?? You have to be kidding me. Can have this brick back since they are too cheap to provide the tiny jumper that is necessary for its installation.

I bought this drive to replace my 6yr old 150gig drive (also a Western Digital drive) which was running out of room. As of now the drive works beautifully no problems although I've only had it for 2 days. Here's hoping I get another 5-6 yrs out of this drive too.By the way I am really impressed with how fast Amazon dilvered the item to me. I ordered it late Monday night and got it early Wednesday morning. I didn't even pay for 2 day shipping.

Well, what can you say about a hard drive? I've always had the best of luck with this brand, others have been less than, ahem, thrilling, shall we say? Bought for a client's PC, whose old drive crashed, now running fine, everybody is happy, the price is great and fast shipping. Just remember to buy your SATA cables, glad I was replacing, not adding or I'd have been up that one, certain creek lacking any long-armed propulsion devices.

My use for these drives is to replace a couple of aging five year old 80GB drives in Windows XP and XP Media Center machines. Those drives are still running fine, however, for the price, I had absolutely no reason not to upgrade them at this time.I came across this drive middle of last week and Amazon was selling it new for $29 - I was scratching my head thinking "what's the deal" and "what's wrong with these drives"? Sure, even though they were above $25, Amazon was still charging for the shipping - so I took two to bring the per drive shipping down slightly. The old 3Gb version of this drive was selling for over $40 - so again, scratching my head about this. Maybe it was a pricing mistake? Whatever - it was a great price.The drives arrived yesterday, same standard OEM packaging all of my six other WD drives have come in over the past 9 months. I used Clonezilla to clone the old drives on to the new, it went smoothly without any issues. I'm storing the old drives just in case these new ones have any issues I won't have to rebuild the system drives from scratch.I know that the motherboards in my machines cannot make use of the 6Gb throughput, however, these drives are definitely faster than what they're replacing - older WD drives which indicate they are 7200RPM and 3Gb. Specs on the older drives indicate performance shouldn't be all that different, but it is, and for the better. I won't question it.The drive indicates you can jumper pins 5 and 6 to limit it to 3Gb, but I didn't understand the benefit of doing it, so I left it unjumpered and it's working well.To summarize - these drives are fast, quiet, and so far are performing excellently. I'm very happy with them thus far.

If you are going to buy this, might as well put in another 100 for the WD Caviar Green which is 32mb cache and 1tb. When it comes to speed and an HDD above 500gb. Cache is what matters most, do not overlook that fact.ANYWAYS! This is a good product. It does what it needs to do the only problem I had was simply the price. I may be wrong but it seems overpriced for being only 500gb and 16mb cache.

If you have the right SATA 6 GBs motherboard, this baby smokes with the 7200 RPM and decent cache. Great price and I can't imagine I'll use the space on this, so I don;t need the larger device.

I was worried that the WD drive would make noise because this computer is in my bedroom and my favorite thing about it is that it is completely silent. It didn't.I ran the computer several days with the cover off as I switched the SATA leads back and forth as I looked for settings and data on the old drive to move to the new drive. This new WD is fast and quiet. I like it.Packaging was appropriate. Protected the drive but was easy to open and not wasteful.The only suggestion that I would make would be that Amazon could put a note that folks buying a new SATA data cable may need a new power adapter to connect from a conventional power supply plug to a SATA drive. I had to make an unexpected trip to Radio Shack for that adapter.No info yet on durability since it is only two weeks old at this writing.

I installed this hard drive about a month ago and I have had no problems with it at all. Its quiet and fast.I have not experienced any of the issues that some other buyers have. I recommend this product. I hope it doesn"t suddenly go rogue after I write thus glowing review.

I AM USING THIS DRIVE AS A SECOND HARD DRIVE IN MY SYSTEM TILL I CAN BE CERTAIN IT WILL NOT CRASH. AMAZON HAS ISSUED SOME CAN OF WARNING ABOUT PROBLEMS WITH THIS DRIVE. I HAVE HAD IT IN MY SYSTEM ABOUT THREE WEEKS SO FAR SO GOOD. IF YOU ARE PLANNING ON USING THIS DRIVE AS YOUR MAIN DRIVE I AM NOT SURE I WOULD DO THAT. HOPE THIS HELPS.

I've already had a Western Digital (500 GB) HDD installed in my PC (well it wasn't the same model but the same brand and capacity)All I can say is the item is very good from a very good company.Now between the 2 Hard drives in my desktop I have 1TB of space.Western Digital is a very good brand and if you were to say go to Staples to buy this Hard drive I doubt you would pay less than $70 for it.The hard drive is fast (for the price) and reliable.Also even if you've never installed a hard drive in your PC before it isn't rocket science and it is well worth it.So i would recommend this to anyone who's running out of space and who's other hard drive is about to croak.Overall I am very satisfied with this product and the price (i paid only $37 i believe) , the price is outstanding!5 years ago this would've cost you $400 or more.Anyway like I said ,if you have ANY doubts about getting this item - DON'T!You will not be disappointed ! ! !

I'm overall happy with this drive. Western Digital drives typically last a long time for me as long as they have decent cooling. I've only used this particular one for a week. As expected, no problems. Am reviewing it now because it'll probably be quiet a few years before it fails. I've a touch of buyers remorse in that the 1TB drives are starting to really drop in price now. I think they're the best bang for buck at the moment. Such is life. At least it's quiet. I'm typing this review on the very quiet office desktop this drive went into. I can hear crickets outside and a computer in a different room, but can't hear this little PC two feet away. Bought this for a computer I am rebuilding for my neighbor, comes with just the bare minimums: A Hard Drive. Works as expected with just plugging it into the computer, installed Windows XP Media Center 2005.The hard drive comes with a 3 Year Warranty, I've only had to go though Western Digital's warranty once (Not with this drive), and they were very good about it, very fast turn around time in the event of a drive failure. I've used them from servers, to a regular PC - Never had a single issue with their products.It features very quiet operation on this model, and fast SATA operation. Perfect for a reliable value hard drive, still capable of fast speeds too.The Amazon packaging was perfect, Just break the tape off the box, then peel the anti-static bag top off, remove drive, then install. No need for some box cutter or any other annoying plastics.

It was received quickly and installation was a snap. Much faster and larger than my previous hard drive and can take advantage of the 6 Gbs SATA ports on my Sandybridge Motherboard. I have had it for almost a month and have had no performance or technical problems. Overall a very good product, just glad I got it before the flooding of Western Digital Factories.

I have used at least 16 of these drives setting up RAID 5 arrays for clients in my business. Unlike another brand, none of these drives have ever suffered a failure. I only use WD now in Desktops and Servers, and, at least in my experience, they are very reliable. Remember the Seagate 7200.11 firmware debacle? I suffered through numerous problems with that brand, including crashes, data corruption, and outright failure. My advice, go with the WD.

Well, what do you say, its just an internal hard drive. Not the sexiest item in the world, it just needs to do what it needs to do. This is from the "Blue" series, which is faster than the "Green" series (which are cheaper to run), but not as fast as the "Black" or the Velociraptor drives. I suspect I didn't spell that right..oh well)But, it gets the job done, and has been reliable for several months so far. I like Western Digital, they seem to make pretty good drives.

I bought this hard disk as I wanted to add capacity to my desktop. I read a lot of reviews about this and other disks on amazon. I am glad I bought this. It is a quiet hard disk with fast data transfer. Transferring the OS & data from the existing hard disk to this one was a breeze with the Acronis Software from Western Digital. I recommend it.

Not a lot to comment on. I have had this drive a while now. I used this drive to build a new system a while back. It is mostly a gamming system, but I couldn't really justify a solid state drive yet just for games. Anyway this hard drive has been good so far, and has worked flawlessly. I would like maybe a 32mb catch, and so on, but over all it's fast, and reliable. That is all I cared about at the time. When I upgrade this drive it will become a storage drive, so either way I ended up with a good drive and at a good price.

This hard drive is the best mid-range hard drives out there. We run a computer repair shop and THIS is the drive that we always use as a replacement in customers computers.For 500GB, you just can't beat the price. In my 15 years of business I have seen a few hard drive companies come and go, rise and fall. Maxtor was the beast hard drive of all time (until Seagate bought and crushed them). Now, Western Digital holds the best drive, as Maxtor once did.If you are looking for a great all around basic hard drive, then this is for you. If you are looking for speed and performance such as needed with a "gaming rig" then choose Western Digital BLACK series.

I purchased a 500GB unit since I don't really need much storage. I simply REPLACED my older 160GB Hitachi with this newer 500GB WD drive. Since installation, the average temperature on my multiple-core microprocessor has risen at least 10 degrees Fahrenheit so this drive runs significantly hotter than the Hitachi. In warmer environments, this emission of heat could cause problems. During the day, I find the temperature on the cores rising to ~ 140 degrees F whereas the average temperature was ~ 125 degrees F before replacement of the Hitachi. Naturally, I still recommend this drive, but beware of the heat.

I purchased the 320gb version of the cavier blue. It came in a sealed anti static bag and has worked flawlessly since i have had it. Moving from a sata 2 to 3 hard drive i honestly noticed no difference in performance. All that matters is it works. Great buy for any budget build.

Working as expected without any problems for over a month now. The drive is a bit heavier than expected, and solid. The drive did not show up at first, however i had to make a trip to Windows management tools to have the drive show up. Everything seems well subsequently.

The drive came in very quick and is a replacement for my security system that will run 24/7. The price was so reasonable that I couldn't pass it up. So far it hasn't had any problems and hopefully it will last another 3 years. The system recognized it immediately and started recording at the same time.

Bought this hard drive to replace the failing 1.75 year old Seagate hard drive that came with my HP desktop computer. The hard drive is quiet (maybe only SLIGHTLY noisier than my old Seagate hard drive). I have been using the WD hard drive for over 3 weeks now and it works great.

I bought this 2 weeks ago to replace the aging drive in my iMac G5, put it in, and it does everything I expect of it. What more can I say? I'm not a techie, and the bottom line is, will it give some years of trouble-free service? Too early to tell, but whoever buys my computer will find out.

Watch, out connector plastic on SATA, bad DESIGN,GOOD product, just bad connector not 360, but 270will brake in that 90 degrees, (DOWN-BRAKE-OFF)...Not good for cramped spaces, easily broken...Harold :o\

My WD 1TB Caviar Blue internal HDD was priced right & arrived on time from Amazon, packaged nicely and undamaged, installed in minutes, formatted & partitioned it and put it to work. That was about a month ago and I already have it almost halfway filled. It's doing exactly what it should be doing so far. Not much more than that I can say.

Excellent HD for an upgrade, went from an old IDE WD 40GB to this 750 Gb in one morning, easy to setup if you know what you are doing, my PC now runs 5 times faster thanks to the extra space and drive speed. Thinking on buying another for that huge music library.

I love WD drives, but I am not pleased with this one. Unfortunately I could not believe how LOUD this drive is! Too noisy. This hard drive is the only part of my system that makes any noticeable amount of noise.My Western WD1002FAEX Digital WD Caviar Black 1 TB SATA 6 GB/S 7200 RPM 64 MB Cache Internal Desktop Hard Drive is extremely quiet, far more better than this one.

I PURCHASED THIS HARD DRIVE TO USE FOR BACKING UP MY COMPUTER FILES. I DID NOT NEED THE FASTESTHARD DRIVE AS I BACKUP MY COMPUTER AT NIGHT.TIME WILL TELL HOW DURABLE THIS DRIVE IS, BUT IT CAN'T BE MUCH WORSE THAN THE SEAGATE HD I HAD, WHICH FAILED AFTER APPROX. A YEAR AND A HALF.

I have built many computers over the years and have standardized on Western Digital hard drives. WD gives you excellent quality at a very reasonable price. I use this drive in a 24/7 DVR and have not experienced any issues.
