This drive is FAST. It gives a range of 160-180 MB/s in HD Tune. Has a single platter and two heads. That translates to less heat output and better reliability (fewer components that could fail).Short of buying WD Black drive, you can't do better for a high-throughput, high-uptime part for your system disk than this one. It's also a more recent release than pretty much any other prosumer WD drive.

For the money this is as good a HDD as you can get. Out of the box to storing pictures and videos in less than five minutes.

Purchased four of these to use in a Synology 412+ NAS (RAID 5, iscsi) that is the backend storage for VMs (ESXi 5.1 home lab server).Have never tested the actual speeds or anything but I don't have anything to complain about when I am using the lab and its VM guests. The drives have been operational 24/7 for the past two months and have not had ANY issues whatsoever.I would definitely buy again for the performance and price.

I will keep it short and to the point... I was skeptical about this drive and was hesitant to purchase it, but now I am a firm believer and will recommend to anyone. Immediately after I installed and performed a fresh install of Mountain Lion, I performed a disk bench test and average read/write speed is 170mb/sec with +/- 5mb/sec - AMAZING fast for a HDD SATA III. Furthermore, the drive is very quiet and I have yet to notice any excessive spinning or noise. Since then, I've purchased another drive for a second system and I will update this post if I experience any problems.

I finally used clonezilla to clone my tiny HDD, installed this one, restored, and eveything in working great! It's only been a week, so I can't comment on longevity, but eveything appears good so far!

Can't say much about it, except the price was right. Too bad my Mainboard only supportss SATA-II..Come back here in a year or two- I may say something if the disk fails before then.I'm using this as a backup for my Seagate 7200-11 disk which DID fail (and luckily was UNBRICKED by me- ) due to that infamous firmware BSY error!

Receive it shortly after placing the order. The Hard Drive works fine after installation. It is very quiet compared to my older hard drive and it seems to be cooler too !

Installed this drive in a Rosewill external eSATA/USB enclosure. Connected via USB first for NTFS formatting (Windows 7), because I've had problems formatting large drives when connected via eSATA. After formatting, connected via the much faster eSATA port, after shutdown. Works flawlessly. The Rosewill enclosure has a fan with ON/OFF switch. The fan is off. Did a backup of about 250GB of data to the WD 1GB drive. The Rosewill case has stayed just lukework. Fan not needed.

Cloned a HDD to this one and installed in my system, it's been in less than a month and the computer will no longer boot and it's giving SMART errors upon bootup. I'll try 1 more and then I'll move on to another product.
