We purchased three of these to replace an entire RAID 5 array in a small business server. The factory drives were (no names mentioned) 7200 RPM with minimal cache and approaching their four year anniversary. There were some slight performance issues with file access, so I felt it was time to do a performance upgrade, increase the storage size, and conduct a preemptive strike against aged drive failure in the array all at once.Backed up the entire server to an image file.Wiped out the old RAID volume.Replaced all the drives at once.Created a new RAID 5 volume.Restored the image of the server to the new volume.(For the curious, we did not install the drives one by one over time, letting the new spindles synch, because the new volume was intended to be larger than the original, and our RAID firmware does not support resizing volumes.)Expanded the data partition on the restored volume using GPart.First (and second) impressions during and after this upgrade:1) Restoring the image to the new drives took about half the time as expected - these new drives are substantially faster than the originals.2) On first boot, the performance improvement was fairly dramatic. On the original drives the server would take about 2 minutes to boot after getting past the RAID firmware BIOS screens. On the new drives it takes about 45 seconds - better than half the time.3) Overall responsiveness on the server for network file access is much snappier feeling. Gone are the short pauses when browsing deep into the project folders.We did the upgrade about 4 months ago - and so far zero problems with reliability.Very happy with these drives.

Awesome drives. Nice and fast. Replaced 2 150 Gig Raptors that were about 3 years old (RAID 0). Just needed more storage. SSD is too expensive for what you get yet, so these are a great 'cheap' 2nd place in speeds.

Selected this HD for my new workstation build due to SATA 6Gb and 10000rpm specs. I usually use SCSI drives, but thought that SATA 6Gb would be able to provide kick butt performance. Installed this HD along with i7-2600s, 8GB DDR3 memory on a ASUS P8P67 Deluxe mobo (which has SATA 6Gb ports).Installed Window 7 64-bit and ran Windows Experience Index assessment and got 7.3+ ratings for processor, memory, graphics and gaming graphics subscores; except the Velociraptor HD got a 6.0 on the scale of 1.0 to 7.9. Somewhat disappointed about that score . . . this is supposed to be the fastest SATA HD around.

This is a fast, low noise hard drive. I've had no problems. The drive has its own heat fins to keep it cool as you can see in the photo. Solid, well built. Some people like a certain brand of hard drive. I've always had good luck with Wstern Digital.

Great for my mass storage drive. I am using a corsair force series gt SSD for drive C. But I needed something bigger for video etc and my 120GB drive was not enough and anything bigger costs a small fortune. Still if you cannot afford an SSD, this is the one to go to as the 10,000 rpm with 32mb cache will help out quite a bit. And it is quite. I have 5 fans in my system and the only noise I can hear is the fan from my UPS. I will quite that down soon by changing its fan to an ultra quiet version.

The drive was supposed to be a addition to my existing server. The drive is great and server grade. I am currently using it as a drive to host virtual machines so satisfies the need correctly

I recently purchased this drive and a 3.5-inch OCZ Vertex 2 SSD. While this drive is still orders of magnitude slower than the SSD, it is more than double the speed of the stock 7200RPM drive my 2007 Mac Pro shipped with. Unlike earlier velociraptor models, the "Ice Pack" heat-sink on this drive will fit into virtually any standard 3.5-inch drive bay (including the drive trays of early Mac Pro models)Pros:- Noticeably faster boot time, game loading & software installation- A bargain at $200Cons:- Still orders of magnitude slower than a 3.5-inch SSD (albeit at 1/6th the cost per GB)

Very fast drive at a good price. Handles HDV Video for which it was purchased for. Be aware you will need a SATA Controller to take advantage of the speed.

Pros: Super quiet, easy to install. Simple.Cons: Using it on a motherboard (ASUS Crosshair IV Extreme) that supports 6gb SATA. Unfortunately, I have no idea how to take advantage of the 6gb SATA speeds. Performance does not appear to have improved and I don't know how to tell if it is performing at the rated 6gb speeds. The Microsoft System Performance Index still rates drive performance as 5.6, the same as it was under the previous 7200 rpm 3gb SATA drive. This makes me sad...General: First time user of this drive. Once I can figure out how to properly take advantage of the improved speed the drive and MB offers I will be in Nervana.

This hard drive is working great. Much better than the WD20EARS that went bad right out of the box. Lasted about one day. Just long enough to get enough data on it to be a pain when it crashed.

OK Raptors are fast? this one is SATA 3 6gb, installed on a ICore 5 760, MB ASUS P7P55D-E pro transfer rates seem to be about 120mb/s thats about 50mb/s faster than the other SATA 2 3mb drives in this system are doing around 70mb/s. I don't know if I would put out the extra money for this drive again. Since I am using this for a OS I would have expected it to be a lot faster than SATA 2 drives running at 7200 RPM
