hello, i have an original 150 gb velociraptor 10k C: drive in my home computer. it has worked flawlessly for 3 years and is still going strong. but, in my spare time, it is being filled up, so i decided to get another larger drive. this time a 600 gb velociraptor 10k drive. now, my computer still has speed with lots of space for programs and projects. i back up all of my programs and projects to my external 2tb hard drive, so the main computer is lean and fast. i used to have a 5400 rpm hard drive and a 7200 rpm hard drive, but this 10k drive is by far the fastest on the market. i originally did not want to spend tons of money on the latest ssd flash drives, but i wanted speed. i chose another brand 15k drive, but did not want to add on other necessary parts needed to function in my computer. also, the reliabilty was questionable. the latest trend is a large ssd for the operating system only and a 7200rpm 1tb drive for storage. i am extremely happy with my two velociraptor set up and as long as the 10k drives work well, there is no need to change over. if i do, maybe a larger ssd and a larger velociraptor for storage. but the external storage is necessary at any rate, whether it be hard drives or cloud. the velociraptor drives are fast and reliable.

I have a gaming AMD pc with 6 of these drives in raid 0The read and write speeds are amazing 3ms seek time for a 2.5 sata 3 drive amazing.These drives do not get hot and not really warm either. Western digital made major improvements to these drives when they went to 2.5 inch for 10,000 RPM drive they are almost silent in my corsair obsiden 800D case.I always hear from people that a $500 SSD drive is faster then going raptor however time and time again I see SSD drives die or firmware bug out on them. MFG try to push SSD drives as more reliable because no moving parts but they fail more often then hdd's. Western Digital came out with a great medium for people that want speed reliable storge and awesome product for raid 0 /5 envirmoents.From this point on I will only buy Western Digital Enterprise class drives for my PC.Other great Thing about these are they are made right here in Fremont CA, Price may be a bit more then a samsung and or segate but I like buying American where ever I can.

Not much of a noticeable difference between this and standard 7200 rpm drives but it runs great and doesn't make noise so I'm happy with it. Games and graphic design programs run just fine.

I run 20 of these in a NAS RAID system utilizing RAID 10. These drives are amazing but under heavy use they to like to chirp. I also use these around the office for "important people" work and other mini(less than 8TB) RAIDs. They are highly reliable if they don't die in the first month.These babies were built for High I/O cycles and the chassis they ride in now does a fine job of heat dissipation.

I was building a gaming PC and I really needed a speedy boot drive. This little gem fits that profile perfectly. I read where it one of the fastest spinning hard drives on the planet. I checked the techie websites and they agree. After installation of the OS and few games, I am impressed with it's speed. The 5 year warranty from Western Digital is pretty cool too.

I purchased one of these 6 months ago and it works fine. I decied to buy 2 more to add extra space and redundancy. Both new drives died within 24hours. One drive has a mechanical issue (no longer spins up) the other seems to be a electrical issue (BIOS will not recognize the drive on known good SATA ports.) The original drive still works fine but only 1 drive out of 3 working means I will not buy a drive out of this series again.

Bought this drive last month - it is a great drive and I am very happy with it, just a warning to people using their free delivery. I tried to track the item and it stopped dead when it go to my town. For days it would say "out for delivery" yet a week went by and status stayed the same. So I called the post office and sent them the tracking number, The culdn't find it - so I went to the post office and the person brought me to a room where untagged items were, we found the box with no address, just a packing slip that had the description of the drive, no name, address or anything. We opened the box and found the drive, I was very lucky. Amazon did an unbelievably horrible job shipping this item and I was almost out $300.00. I took pictures of the box and "packing slip" and tried to contact them but got nothing but an automated email back. I would like to warn everyone against using Amazon - very uncaring and sloppy delivery

I've owned the velociprator since building my own PC back in 2009. Since then, the hard drive has caused no problems what soever. On top of that, Windows 7 64 bit loads withing 20-30 seconds still after 4 years of heavy use. I would reccomend this hard drive to anyone that wants the fastest HDD speeds. The closest thing to this HDD's speeds would be SSD's which are quite costly.

Was using a 2 month old WD Black 750gb 7,200rpm 64mb cache SATA3 as my main OS/Boot drive...that thing was LOUD...seeking noises where that of an old IDE drive grinding away...not sure whats up with that...I had actually purchased 2 of those..the other did not sound like that..despite the noise my old drive made..it fully check out as good.....but I still found myself wanting more..Installed this Raptor drive...almost silent operation. Much faster boot times and loading time...It's not an ssd, but for the price I paid, I am much happier with it. Wish it had 64mb cache instead of the 32mb...not sure why WD did it that way..Don't pay any attention to Windows Experience Ratting...it said 5.9 for my old drive, as well as for this new one...and even for my slow 5,400rpm drive in my laptop. (yes, I re-ran the assessment after getting everything installed and configured)All around...a great drive.. definitely going to be sticking to Raptors until SSD's come down in price.

This is a FAST hard drive. Granted I upgraded from the SATA II version, but I immediately noticed a difference in speed. They're not as fast as SSD, but for the price, they can't be beat. I wish I could rate Amazon because I would give them one star. They sat on my order for four days before shipping and then used the slowest, cheapest method possible. I placed my order two weeks before I received my items. If this is the "free shipping" bonus, I will simply stop shopping Amazon and go to Newegg.

Needed a Sata3 drive to go along with the new pc. Since I had previous Velociraptor drives without issue I decided on getting another. The drive is quiet, doesn't run hot with adequate cooling and has been solid for almost 3 months as a C drive. If you're not going for SSD yet this is probably a good option. Go RAID if you really wanna see some speed.Update: Well, one year later the drive is still going strong. It's no longer used as a C drive as it's been replaced with an SSD drive. However, I am running Ubuntu on it while also using it as backup AND for installation of whatever I put on here. Holding up nicely.

First off Amazon Rocks! ordered this drive at 1930 on a Thursday with Saturday delivery. Amazon shipped it over night and I got it the next for no additional cost. As far as the drive goes woks great absolutley no issues installing and it greatly improved the performance of my machine.

Hi there....I'm just a regular person with limited computer skills. Upgrading my computer is something I'm not afraid to do. Hardware, software, Ect. As long as the product is good and doesn't require me to figure stuff out. I have recently upgraded the hard drive in my computer. First one was a seagate. The seagate was trash so I went with a WD 7200rpm and it did install ok but the perfomace was not there for me. Then I purchased this drive, Wow it is amazing how well it works for me. Installed windows 7 very quick and runs very fast. No problems. Yes it does make a little noise when you first load stuff on it but after it places it from there the noise very much less.Very good product

General operation has been fine, as expected. Only 4 stars as heavy load operation it makes a small squeaking noise, which worries me a bit for the long term.

I originally bought this to troubleshoot an Imac that was problematic. Worked great and seemed cooler and quieter than the original. Unfortunately the Imac had other issues. I disposed of the Imac and put this drive in my Windows7 x64 PC. Definitely a snappy little drive. Really little. It has a very large heatsink to make it fit in a standard hdd slot. It doesn't seem to need the heat-sink as it runs pretty cool anyway. I really feel this is the best drive out there outside of SSD's and maybe even still.

The drive worked well enough for install so all of the software was activated and running. Then after about 3 weeks, the drive started slowly losing integrity with more and more data getting corrupted. I was able to salvage most of the data; however, this kind of failure should never happen on a drive with specs that quote a very high MTBF. WD would not refund money for this drive as the last thing I wanted to do was try this experiment again but Amazon issued a refund less $50 as it was now 'open box'. Then of course the software reactivation issues were a problem. A failed drive is not worth the headache. While the performance was great during the brief period it worked, I have to say I don't trust WD to put out a reliable version of this drive. I was at least lucky enough to get the client's data off it before it went out completely. Part of my business is building workstations for CAD and this kind of failure set me back with my client plus $50 out of pocket. It's clear now that the MTBF spec is a theoretical number only and not representative of shipping product.

I'm glad that I ordered this hard drive. My old one had a bad surface sector and slowed down ridiculously. After installing and loading the operating system I am really satisfied. What a difference!

This is my first 10,000 rpm drive and I was looking for speed without the expense and problems of an SSD drive (2 ssd's died a fast death.) This drive is fast but is very noisy. You will know every disk access as you get plenty of noise. Bootup sounds like its making popcorn. Yes, its defraged..... But overall, I'm happy. I got what I wanted (faster boot time,) and so far, no problems. Would buy another 10k drive, but may look at one that does not make popcorn while saving my data.

Western Digital Velociraptor 600 GB SATA III 10000 RPM 32 MB Cache Bulk/OEM 3.5 Inch Desktop Hard Drive - WD6000HLHXDrive came in as ordered, right on time. The inside packaging was no up to par but so far the drive has shown no damage. Plugged it straight into my new Mac G5 Tower, formatted the disk and we are flying. My computer starts up fast and I've had no issues with this drive. I would recommend this drive.

Pro: Fast for a platter drive. Nice casing.Con: We had a pair and they wouldn't RAID (Intel Matrix) without a firmware update. After update they worked fine.

WESTERN DIGITAL 600GB VELOCIRAPTOR 3.5INCH 10000RPM 32MB CACHE SATA6.0GB S BARE WD6000HLHXTo me is happening the same case as the previous person I have installed an ASUS Crosshair motherboard Extreme IV with a processor 1090T 6-Core AMD and had installed 2 1TB Samsung hard drive 7200rpm 32mb HD103SJ and regulate my machine was running I got the idea purchase this velociraptor and the truth is I am very disappointed with the product and I see that my machine runs just as before and the evaluation of Windows 5.6 not changed I'm no expert in the field of information and I really believe that something is working as it should be but of this I can blame both as WESTER DIGITAL ASUS since the first manuals and bios updates are almost impossible to understand and I will fulfill a year with this card and I find no way or form bios and disk 2 comes with no manual or installation package that teaches how to make the most of this unit since the beginning if I had said I had to buy 2 or 3 units to get more speed velociraptor had not wasted my money because so far with the Samsung I had done well and worth a third of what the unit cost Velociraptor. I wish someone could explain me the process of adapting the system to see if I can get something out of this. And I recommend to others advice very well not go to waste money and I lost it at this point I can not return ...

Unit arrived in a bare box containing just the drive. So if you need cables and mounting hardware be prepared. But once the unit was installed it has worked completely to my satisfaction and as advertised. With the discount offered it was a worthy purchase and I recommend the product.
