I've been using Western Digital hard drives almost exclusivly for 15 years now. I have never had one fail one me. Lucky or just very good drives. That's not to say that if the drive is abused or over heated that it wouldn't fail. There's not a lot of drive brands to choose from. The two leading brands are both very good. But Of the 2 best, I think Western Digital has an edge.

This is for my second drive for my tower. The original drive is a Western that has lasted so far for 10 years now. I bought a non Western drive for a second hard drive about 3 years ago which died without warning recently that made me lose a whole lot of stuff. Never again, go with what works. You get what you pay for.

I've been using crappy hard drives for years now until I felt that enough was enough, so I invested in this one. I've had it on my PC for a few weeks now and so far I"m very pleased with it. It's extremely quiet and my operating system installed on it with relative ease. Expecting years of service with this one.

This is an excellent drive. It is fast, reliable and quiet. And I mean really quiet. I used it to replace a 60gb drive that was annoying my wife because it was continually chug-chugging while she was at the computer. So I took a disk image, swapped in this drive, restored the image to it and was done in less than a half hour. And did I mention that it was really quiet? Well, so's my wife.

I have a hp 551w pavilion that is over 7 years old and the 33gig drive was just filling up too fast now that I put lots of video on it. No problem installing this drive as a secondary drive and I copied everything from my original drive to a partition I made on this drive. The data lifeguard tools works great which comes with the drive. The drive came with screws and jumpers but no ide cable as stated in description. This is the 1st new hard drive I've purchased and the drive was easy to install and suprisingly quite compared to some maxtor 20 gig drives from 2000 which I have had hooked up as secondary drives in the past. My system don't seem any louder than it was before. The drive just has a faint buzz and that is it. Hardly noticable. For $59 and free shipping this can't be beat in my opinion.

I bought this as a gift for my son and to date he's very satisfied with it over all. The 320gigs was perfect for his on-line game playing. I liked the price as well as the prompt delivery. It was exactly what I was looking for.

Very low price for such high quality. Have several for backup redundancy. When computer "craps out", and they all do, just substitute working drive for the defective drive. Then I rejuvenate defective drive, if possible, and put it on standby for next "crap out."I figure these drives are cheaper than having to take your computer to a repair place and pay $50 an hour to get computer going again.

I replaced my 40 gig C: drive using the software that came with the drive. I just pulled my back-up drive, installed the new drive as a slave, used the supplied software to make the new drive the boot drive (took about 90 minutes to copy everything), installed the new drive in the C: drive position, replaced my back-up drive, and was done. All very easy.

Although this works well, I followed the directions while installing it and still came up with the same error. Then after it was installed and I went to format the drive, it had issues accepting the Operating System. I still get a disk read error when I start up and have to go to my bios in order to access my actual account. Otherwise this is quiet, and runs well.

I purchased this HDD to salvage my wife's 5-year old Dell. Easy to install, using the WD set up software, the drive is quite and fast compared to the 80GB 5400 RPM Maxtor that took a dump on me. Of course wasn't crazy about spending 3-days reinstalling all the software and settings. Highly recommended and a great value from Amazon; Amazon Rocks!

I bought this drive as a replacement to a 40GB Western Digital drive that was no longer big enough for all the drive space hogging programs. If you can use a screwdriver, know where your hard drive is, and are familiar with installing a computer program or operating system you can install this drive. I was all ready for headaches and hassles and there just weren't any. Due to the way drives are sized don't expect your drive to show as 320 after it is installed though. It should show up as 298 GB. Great Drive to replace an older Eide drive with. Western Digital WD3200JBRTL Caviar 320 GB EIDE Hard Drive

Massive storage capacity!My old original 30GB hard drive died on me. This replacement was the best option for me.I am a graphic artist & an amateur photographer. The need for more hard drive space needs no further explaining.Extremely inexpensive and easy to install, just unplug the old one and plug in the new one and presto! Start loading it up!

It's hard to find EIDE internal hard drives. Didn't think these were still being made. Replacement of my nearly full 40 GB hard drive was made very easy with the software included with the drive. Made copying all files to the new bootable 320 GB drive a breeze.

I need to burn some disk or just not care when all my music and pictures disappear when these crash. I must have a storage fetish. Can you believe we used to get everything on 850 megabite drives. I don't even know why I'm wasting my time writing a review. I could be down at Best Buy looking for another terabite or two. Stop me before my hard disk goes floppy andI can't get anymore ram. Downloading.... I'm done. Good thing I use a virus protection.

I would have rated this five stars, except that the included data life guard software failed to copy over my old XP boot hard drive successfully. The copy booted, but a lot of the installed software failed to work, or came up as unregistered. Luckily I was able to use a third party backup image utility to copy the old drive on to this drive. I would have been dead in the water if I did not have that utility. Otherwise, no complaints.

The product worked well for 4 months. Reasonably fast, quiet, and a good price. Then the disk crashed, unable to access any data on the drive. I had previously read of several people having problems with this drive, I should have taken heed. Can't send it back as it stored backup finance data and given that the drive does not function, I am unable to wipe the data clean.

it arrived on time and it was easy to setup with no errors..i havent had it that long yet so i'll see how it rides out the next 6months of duty but it is a great buy and fast read/write in my external enclosure which keeps the drive from running hot..a good buy

Wester Digital 320 GB HD came with copying software. Not able to understand the installation process I called Western Digital support. The support was satisfactory and free. It took hours to copy an almost full 80GB HD. I was impressed with a much faster bootup and program response time. But two out of thirty programs stopped functioning. 1. I could not get online, which I'm sure could have been resolved and 2. My DVD coping program did not work. Western Digital tech support was contacted and I was told to reinstall it again. This took more than 24 hours and yielded the same results. Hence I use this drive as a slave for storage. For the money and the three-year warranty you can't go wrong.

Not a completely trouble free installation. I did have to run the program to migrate the data from the old drive to this one twice (took 3-4 hours each time). This is the second of these drives I'm putting in my Compaq, replacing the 120 GB hard drive that came with it. The WD is faster and compatible with EIDE in this machine.

While it is easy to say that 320 gigs is overkill, a few years ago I thought I would never fill my 120 gig drive. The installation was very simple, and the included software was able to copy the information from my old drive to my new drive almost without a hitch. For some reason it threw my firewall for a loop, and I also had to reactivate itunes, and had some problems with outlook. However, for the most part it was a smooth upgrade.I haven't had any reliability problems yet, but since it is only a month old I would not expect any. I will say that the drive is quick, and doesn't suffer from the lag that some large drives suffer from.Overall, I would recommend this drive as a great upgrade solution, with an easy upgrade path from your previous drive.

The first drive I got was bad, and after an hour of fooling around I couldn't intall it. An expert friend then tried an hour of fooling around with BIOS, etc. but all the drive would do is keep clicking. I returned it to Amazon and the replacement worked flawlessly and fast

I have been looking to upgrade my hard drive for almost two years. I had a 30 gig hard drive which is tiny to todays standards. About a month ago, I bought and installed Western Digitals 320gig hard drive and never looked back. The hard drive was extremely easy to install and setup. It was the most painless upgrade I have ever done to my computer. Another plus is that it runs much cooler than my old Maxtor Hard drive. Great price, great hard drive.

I bought this drive to replace my measly 30GB boot drive that came with my Dell. In order to replace your boot drive, you need to MOVE your OS to the new drive, and make it bootable. Simply dragging files won't do it at all.After unsuccessfully using Norton Ghost 9 to try to clone my Win XP boot drive, I decided to use the FREE Lifeguard utility that came with the WD drive. Among other tools, it has the ability to image a drive to a WD disk.It worked on the FIRST TRY!Here are a couple of hints:* During the following process, I always had the WD utility disk in my CD-ROM drive. The system would boot to this disk when all else failed. I also made sure the utilities were installed to my old Boot Drive (C:)* Connect the new WD drive as your SLAVE (your old boot drive should still be a Master).* Launch the Lifeguard tool, and go to the Set Up Drive option. Tell it you want to make the WD be a NEW BOOT disk (NOT just a drive for additional space), and have it copy over all of your old C: drive.* Once it completes (can take hours), it says it needs to reboot to finish the job. That scared me to death, since the PC will start up with an old Boot drive as master, and a New Boot drive as a slave. I was terrified it would ruin my registry. I crossed myself a few times and did it. XP booted on my old drive, then the tool re-launched and completed the process.* At this point, the tool simply says it is finished - and nothing else... I shut down the system, disconnected the old master, configured the new boot drive as a Master, and connected it to the IDE Master. Upon powerup, Win XP came right up! The new Boot Drive automatically came up as C:.* NOTE: I had a slave drive originally. During the cloning process, I removed it from the system. Once the new drive was configured as a master, I put the slave back, and it came up like nothing happened. It retained the same drive letter as well.Bottom line: For $150 (after rebate) for a 320GB drive with a very nice toolset, you can't go wrong. This also would make a nice TIVO upgrade drive for Series2 TIVOs.

By reputation Western Digital drives are very good BUT this retail packaged drive's warranty is for one year FROM DATE OF MANUFACTURE. There is nothing on the packing to indicate this and I only found out about it when I went to WD's website and entered my drive's serial number to buy an extended warranty. My brand new drive was manufactured 2/05 so I'm out of luck. You might want to look at other brands if the warranty is important to you.

I could not beleive what a great price this was for a Western Digital drive. 320GB is a huge amount of space, and I use the drive to manage my increasing MP3 and photo library. My computer was bogged down and slow due to the increasing demands of the content these days. This WD drive solved my problem, and most importantly, the installation was hassle free and simple. What a great deal for a premium brand!
