Rec'd the unit very fast thanks to Prime shipping - and the packaging was not half as bad as some of the other reviewers have discussed. Please remember though that this is an OEM unit - so no cables, instructions or anything. It also does NOT ship a unit with a legacy power connector (despite WD's instructions to the contrary) so be sure to have a serial ATA signal cable as well as a SATA power cable connector on-hand if you expect to use it.Installation as with most HDD's is simple enough - the Western Digital site gives you all the information you'll need if you are so inclined. Got to admit - it is a bit overwhelming to have this much storage even when i am dealing with my video files. I will likely buy a second!

I was shafted by the bad Seagate 1.5TB drives. I was greedy and thought the price of the Seagate 1.5TB was great. Not when 2 of 3 drives died. These WD black drives are fantastic. Their quiet enough and seem very stable. I replaced all of my Seagates with these and have not been sorry. These are a great option for a Drobo or other NAS where reliability is paramount.

I use this drive in a usb Hard drive docking station to store movies and photos to watch on my WD TV. Transfer speeds are good and the 32 mg buffer makes playback nice and smooth. I bought this drive because it was on sale with free shipping from Amazon, and the WD TV won't see any drives bigger than one terebyte. I should have got 2.

The hard drive is fine. But I do not know its status of brand new or a returned item. When I received it, it did not come with the original package. The warranty paper was not included. The worst part was the anti-static bag not vacuum sealed. The drive seems working fine. In the future, I will not buy PC components from Amazon.

I purchased two of these drives and have been using them for about a week now. Incredibly fast and running much cooler than I thought (30-34 degrees C). How can you go wrong with a 1 TB drive for less than $100. As long as the reliability is there, this is probably the best buy on the whole hard drive market.

I ordered this drive to give myself some space. I was previously working with one Sata drive of 200 MB and one IDE drive that was 230 MB, this took the place of the IDE drive. I'd say that this was a really nice upgrade and well worth the money. Oh by the way, this is not a bad price for this amount of space either. Lovin' it so far!!

The drive was horribly packed in between 2 sheets of bubble wrap. It slid to the side of the box making direct contact with the cardboard thus no protection. I dont know if it was damaged but it makes a lot more noise than previous drive. I can hear the clicking as the drive is running. Those whom gave it a silent review can you hear the processing clicking?

I got my drive very promptly and it was packaged VERY WELL!!! I've had it running for 15hrs straight setting up my Raid1 and it's performed great. It does seem to be faster then my WD Green but I'm not sure if I would spend the extra coin on the black again due to the fact that it produces a lot more heat.

I purchased 2 of these drives with intentions of running them in RAID 0. After a few hours of sorting out my issues with my motherboard, I was able to finally install these 2 drives as a RAID. These drives are ultra fast, and running them in a RAID doubles their speed. I will probably end up buying more of these in the next few weeks. Bought 2 of the 640GB drives to run in RAID 1. Worked flawlessly. Each of the two drives (ordered from Amzazon) came wrapped in a layer of bubble wrap and placed in seperate boxes then the two boxes had Amazon's standard air bags to cushion the boxes in the main box.These drives are noticeably faster than my old drive with only a 16MB Cache.

After researching many websites to find the most reliable and well-rounded hard drive, this WD Caviar Black is clearly the winner.- Best MB per dollar storage space- 32 MB Cache for quicker loading- 7200 RPM and SATA II for higher transfer speeds- Western Digital is considered the most reliable hard drive on many non-bias websites. Lowest drive failure rate.After 3+ years, all of my WD drives are still working - external and internal hard drives. Whereas I've lost a few other brands - such as Maxtor.

I've been using this drive for close to a month now. I've had no problems with it yet. My drive is approximately 931GB, formatted NTFS. Runs quiet, too. Shipping was great...it came in a smaller box, sandwiched between two pieces of egg crate foam. Only gripe is that the price dropped $10 after I bought it...good news for you!

Unfortunately I am having exactly the similar issue that "D. Bachman" is facing (I bought 2 of WD 1TB HDD directly from Amazon to avoid any such issue. Both came factory sealed and when I installed them it has showed 80GB only. And when I test them one by one, it appeared that one is totally not working and the other one is 80GB only instead of 1TB! In addition, it has been written Matrox Corp on the back and WD printed on the front sticker)I have seen a comment from "Levi Flaman" saying [Don't write up a 1 star comment complaining about factory mix-ups] and I totally disagree with him as this is the 2nd time happened to a customer and this could happened to another customer. Either Amazon.com look into this issue and try to work it out, or WD should be careful with their produced products!Just for the information, I am one of the biggest buyer of WD products and this is the first time I face such issue which really disappointed me.I have wrote to Amazon and I am now waiting for their response to replace the items for me.
