Cheap quality

The build quality is very poor. Few attachments were missing and the comb attachments are really cheap. Avoid this at all cost. You can get a better trimmer at 1/10 of it's cost

En general una buena compra con la calidad Wahl

La rasuradora de cabello Wahl es una buena opción de compra para principiantes y para peluqueros/barberos. Me agradó en primer lugar que está fabricada en USA, y que viene con un instructivo sencillo en inglés y español. Me agradó que el tiempo de carga de la batería es corto, alrededor de dos horas la primera carga y con cargas más cortas después y que se puede usar también con el cable a la corriente que viene incluído. La pieza para cortar es de metal sólido y segun dice el manual, con la calidad de Wahl. Las diferentes piezas para los cortes de cabello y barba son de plástico ligero y viene numeradas del 1 al 7 u 8 (no recuerdo bien) y se montan y desmontan de manera sencilla y rápida. El motor es potente y esto se nota al usarse con pelo grueso. La evolución que me agradó es que la pieza viene con una aspiradora de pelos que funciona con eficacia, se limpia fácilmente también con ayuda de los accesorios. Yo la compré porque incluye una rasuradora circular para pelo de la nariz y de las orejas que también es potente, por lo menos mejor que las piezas sencillas en forma de pluma operadas por baterías AA que hacen lo mismo. No hace demasiado ruido y es ligera. Requiere de ser lubricada con aceite especial con frecuencia para conservar las navajas en óptimo estado. Las navajas de la pieza de corte son autoafilantes.
Lo que no me agradó es que las únicas piezas de toda la máquina que son de metal son la cabeza de corte y el accesorio para la nariz/orejas, todo lo demás es de plástico y me da la impresión que no resistiría una caída. La versiones más antiguas de Wahl son más sólidas. La pieza es un poco grande para manos pequeñas y no es delgada. El instructivo dice que para reemplazar las baterías recargables que incluye y que le dan autonomía deben ser reemplazadas en la fábrica de Wahl lo mismo que los demas desperfectos en USA. Desconozco si existen talleres locales que la reparen.
En general vale la pena por el precio a pagar pero tengo mis reservas si durará por muchos años tal y como dice el instructivo incluído pero por otro lado, la mayoría de máquinas en el mercado son similares o por lo menos para el futuro esa es la tendencia.

It’s like holding a chainsaw in your hand. You don’t need such motor power for a beard trimmer.

After decades of cleaning up my facial hair from the bathroom counter these clippers com into my life. These things absolutely work, they suck up every last bit of hair. They are a little loud, what do you expect though they have a vacuum built into them. The came with a full suite of clipper attachments most of which I don’t use, however the few I do fit just like any other Wahl clipper attachment. If there was one complaint I would like to make it’s that they have a slightly different charging cord than a different set of cordless Wahl clippers I bought at the same time. This is a minor irritation but one that I would have expected them to think about and factor in, this is the only reason why I didn’t give them 5 stars.

The vacuum feature is incredible and I wish more trimmers had this. That said, I am writing this today as I am ordering a new trimmer brand - I have never had blade issues like I did with this specific one. Gapped blades and no rust protection caused me skin issues. The vacuum again is nice and if you go with this model just be sure to remove any moisture from the blades as they don’t seem to have any inherent protections built in

At 70 I have tried a lot of trimmers & got hooked on vacuum ones. Always had a longer beard when younger but now a very well maintained short one. Last trimmer died & decided to try a well known brand like Whal. The price was good but didn’t need all the attachments but that’s ok. Read the reviews doing my man research & decided to give it a try.
Got my trimmer & lots of parts so I sorted them out. Took out #1 & #2 combs also the adjustable & safety cover. After trying a #3 I decided 1 & 2 were where I needed to be. Being very careful how I changed these different things on the trimmer became easy. I did find that the adjustable comb didn’t lock in as well as it should & needs a stronger spring.
But being a machinist & toolmaker for 43 years I have to say I’m very impressed with the fit of the attachments & also the price
These negative & low responses just just show you didn’t take the time to figure things out & broke things
I would recommend this trimmer & oh yea great vacuum

The trimmer comes in a cardboard box that is well-padded to prevent damage during shipping. Inside the cardboard box is a carry pouch with the trimmer and accessories. The trimmer comes with a charger cord, several combs, a small vial of lubricating oil, a nose-hair clipper attachment and user manuals.

As instructed by the manual, I fully charged the trimmer first before using it. While it was charging, I read the user manuals. Some of the pictures in the manual are of low quality, but I was able to understand the basics without any problems. The manual is for several different models, so, some of the accessories pictured and described in the manual are not present in the package.

Once the trimmer was fully charged, I attached a comb with the appropriate length to it, and started using it. The trimmer is somewhat loud because of the vacuum motor. However, the trimmer is quite sharp and cuts hair smoothly and evenly. The vacuum was quite effective and collected most of the hair clippings. There was a little bit of spillage, but I figured out that most of the spillage happened after the vacuum receptacle was completely filled with hair, and there was no room for any more hair there. I then emptied the receptacle before continuing to use the product, and the vacuum worked well again.

The trimmer is quite light, but the size is somewhat bulky. This can make it difficult to hold it and/or manipulate it for someone with small hands. Also, the vacuum outlets are located such that your hands tend to fully or partially cover them when holding the trimmer. That did not seem to affect the effectiveness of the vacuum though.

After trimming the overall length of hair, you can remove the comb attachment and use the trimmer blades to shape the outline of your beard or scalp in fine detail. I use the trimmer on my scalp, and I was able to use the combless trimmer on my neck and around my ears to clear away excess hair.

Cleanup was also very easy. In most cases, there is no cleanup required for the area where you used the trimmer because the vacuum works quite well. The vacuum chamber is easy to clean up and empty out. The trimmer comes with a stiff brush that can be used to clean the vacuum chamber as well as the cutting blade and comb.

Unfortunately, the trimmer is not waterproof, so it can't be cleaned under the tap. But you can clean the combs and the cleaning brush under running water after you are done using the trimmer. Because of the ease of use and maintenance, you can easily use this trimmer every day or every couple of days.

The battery is quite powerful, and can last several trimming sessions before needing to be recharged. There is no danger of overcharging the battery, so you can also charge it after every use just to be sure that there is always enough juice left for the next trim. The trimmer can also be used while charging, though the cord makes its use more inconvenient that way.

Overall, this trimmer provides very good value for the money. I was more interested in the trimming than in the vacuum feature initially, but after seeing how well the vacuum works, and how much more convenient it makes the use of the trimmer, I can't imagine going back to a trimmer without such a feature. Based on my experience with the trimmer so far, I would definitely recommend it to anybody who needs a hair trimmer.

Update on 2/15/2020: This trimmer has become a white elephant. The trimmer head is held in place by cheap plastic tabs and one of them broke off for no reason except that it is cheap and of very poor quality. I have not even removed the head from the trimmer, so it should not have been stressed by removal and reattachment, etc. Now the head wobbles and does not deliver a clean trim any more. Sometimes, it pops out of the trimmer entirely. Please see attached photos for the broken tabs of the trimming head.

Anyways, I contact Wahl by email about it, and after more than a week, no response whatsoever. Not even an acknowledgement that they received my email. This company DOES NOT PRODUCE QUALITY PRODUCTS or STAND BEHIND ITS PRODUCTS. This one is past the return window, so I can't do anything about it, but I will not buy any other Wahl products ever again.

Works great! I am absolutely satisfied with this trimmer. I bought this to replace my Norelco 7000 series vacuum trimmer. I loved the Norelco, but the head kept breaking due to poor design with the plastic tabs that secure it in place. I had mine replaced under extended warranty three times in three years. Not knocking it obviously since I used it so long, I really liked it. Decided to try this one and am much happier so far. It seems to be a much better design and the vacuum is just as good, if not better. I use it primarily to shave my head weekly just like I did with the Norelco. It gets it down as close as the Norelco did and the vacuum works well. Take the reviews of the sub par vacuum function with a grain of salt. They are unrealistic. Those reviewers want a trimmer that will not leave one single hair to be cleaned up! It doesn’t exist. If I can shave my head weekly, while standing at my bathroom sink, without getting hair on the floor, and getting “some” hair in the sink, I’m good! As I said, great product so far.

I should have written this review sooner, but life has gotten in the way over the last few months. That being said, I have used this product for a few months now & can give a thorough review as objectively as possible.

I purchased this razor to replace my aging Remington shaver/trimmer, and overall, I can say I am disappointed.

PROS:
-Good battery life
-Easy to use
-Comes in a nice fabric zipper case
-Feels solid in your hand

CONS:
-Despite the vacuum, no matter the angle I trim at, nor the length of my facial hair, this product fails to collect a large amount of the hair & leaves a mess in the sink, as well as on my hand & neck. There is a considerable amount of hair collected in the vacuum chamber, but I would say it is about half of the total hair removed that ends up in the chamber. This was the primary reason for my interest in this product, & thus, in terms of the vacuum to prevent a messy sink, I give this 0 out of 5.
-Impossible to get a close shave. Make no mistake, this is a trimmer, not a razor. If you want a shave closer than a 5 o'clock shadow, you will need to supplement with an additional device (not sure if attachments are sold separately that can rise to this challenge). I did not understand this at the time of purchase & would not have purchased it had that been conveyed clearly. Close shave: 0 out of 5.
-Pulls painfully at hair. Regardless of whether I use the provided plastic guards or just the metal trimmer head alone, the device pinches & pulls my facial hair painfully nearly every time I use it. I have closely examined the trimmer to ensure that the guard and blade piece are seated properly & that neither are damaged. I cannot find an explanation that would excuse the pain. Comfortable shave: 1 out of 5.
-The provided plastic guards are too long to be effective at trimming mustache hair. Therefore, I must remove the guard & trim freehand with just the trimmer head (no guard) to trim my mustache hair down in length. Anything other than an edge-up on my upper lip must be done freehand. Mustache trimming: 0 out of 5.
-I almost always need to follow up with a pair of scissors after using this trimmer on my beard, as it fails to provide a smooth, even cut across my cheeks & chin. There are almost always stray hairs that avoided the blade poking out, which need to be clipped.

I gave this trimmer 2 stars overall, because I guess it gets the job done (sort of), although not efficiently, and could be worse. However, with other similar trimmers available on Amazon, in good faith, I cannot recommend this product, & encourage potential buyers to explore other options.

I've used this one trimmer for a while now after having Remington VPG6530 version for a couple years. In short, the Remington vacuum works WAY better, however, the Wahl trimmer cuts more efficiently.

Pros:
1) Sharp blades with bigger gaps between the blades. As result, this trimmer cuts much faster than any other trimmer I've used in the past.
2) the battery will last for a while on a single charge.

Cons:
1) Once the battery charges to 100%, the trimmer stops working. I have to leave it off the charger for a while (usually overnight) before it begins working again. I reached out to Wahl, they won't respond.
2) the vacuum function sucks (not in the good way). I would guess it catches at most 50% of the hair clippings. (Remington seems closer to 80-90%)
3) the clips on the heads feel VERY cheap and easy to break. I've seen a lot of people say the same thing, so I've been very careful with them. I've not broken any yet, but I've only changed them a few times over the course of 3 months or so.
4) the heads are difficult to get on but SUPER easy to get off. So much so, they come off accidently when removing guards, but sometimes take several minutes to get back on.

I highly recommend the Remington VPG6530 over the Wahl version of the vacuum trimmer. I just couldn't find the Remington vacuum trimmer in stock when I needed a replacement. So I gambled on this one. I wouldn't buy this product again. Low quality, poor overall function, non-existant customer service.

This is badly designed. The flimsy little plastic prongs that attach the shaver to the body were always problematic (took 20 minutes to change between shaver and ear trimmer, and shaver head sometimes fell off mid-shave), and as expected, broke after only a year and a half. I expect my trimmer to last way longer than 1.5 years. Pathetic. I will never by the Wahl brand again.
Also, beyond the flimsy design, the cons outweigh the pros anyway: the vacuum feature is basically a gimmick: sure, half your hair will go in the vacuum... but half won't. The clean up process is less about how much hair falls on the sink, but rather where on the sink it fell. This doesn't change the latter part of that, where it fell, so cleanup takes just as much effort and time despite half the hair. My old trimmer could work wet, a feature I found really lacking in this one. I also wanted a trimmer that could work while plugged in if the battery was low, which this doesn't. The battery life was good, but that is really the only nice thing I have to say about this awful product.

I love this razor for my husband, who is disabled and whose care I assumed three years ago. I love this trimmer for his fuzzy facial hair maintenance. The first time I used it to trim his beard, I dropped it and the plastic piece that holds the blade broke. I can still use it, and I do, but the blade falls off all the time and I have to put it back together. It’s a well made razor, but it’s only as good as it’s weakest part.

For the most part, this is a great trimmer! It's light-weight, cuts well, and the vacuum is amazing! I've used a Norelco with a vacuum previously and the vacuum on this trimmer is vastly superior! It left very, very little hair behind. I used to not like to trim my beard unless I was going to get in the shower right after so I could wash off all the stubble. That's not a problem with this trimmer. There wasn't even much stubble on the counter and sink. It cut fast and even. The shape and weight make it easy to hold. Throw out the adjustable guard and use the static guards. The adjustable guard didn't stay locked in and could have easily led to a beard disaster! The carrying case is kind of cheap and cheesy. The instructions are weak too but you should read them. Overall, a very good product, I highly recommend it!

I've had several Wahl trimmers over the life of my beard. The last trimmer served nearly ten years (well, the battery had issues, but that's another story). I hope this trimmer will be as durable. This model is sharp, trims close, sucks hard, and comes with a passel of attachments. The only criticism I can levy concerns the collection bin. The bin is smallish, but adequate for my short beard. Users with longer growth will find it woefully inadequate. if there's a cleaning hatch on the bin to open (like previous Wahl models) I have not found it. Cleaning out the bin involves vigorous shaking and occasional name calling. Otherwise a very good trimmer.

Unit cuts well, vacuum gets most of hairs. You may wish to purchase a spare blade from Wahl, part #53215, for model 9870-100 ( part # supplied by Wahl), as one of the plastic legs on the bottom of the blade broke off after a year and it is not a warranty part. The part is on back order.

I appreciate the inclusion of the adjustable length trimmer but honestly the fact that there are also 10 fixed length clipper heads seems like overkill. The nostril hair trimmer simply doesn't function, and it wasn't documented and how to install it took a while to understand. The snap off blade feels like it comes off a bit too easily. The unit is also pretty loud. The vacuum does seem to work so on that level it's okay but opening the vacuum container feels like it's the sort of thing that would break easily over time. I'm still debating whether to keep it and just use it for the minimum, which is fairly short beard and mustache maintenance. But between the price point and the brand being one I've used for decades, I expected more solid construction and fewer busy work accessories.

The more I use it, the more I like it. I know it won’t pick up 100% of the hair, but with a short stubble I do expect it to grab about 90%. I had a Norelco trimmer with a vac about 15 years ago that seemed to work that well. This one just doesn’t pick it up. It’s probably at about 65% hair pickup.

Another negative is sometimes the hair clumps in the collection bin and is hard to shake out through the tapered opening. It’s not a big issue.

The positive: the clippers themselves are great and do a really good job. They cut evenly and consistently as you would expect from Wahl clippers.

I ordered this when my Philips Norelco T980 Turbo Vacuum Trimmer failed after probably ten years of reliable service. It was the old NiCad battery that failed. The unit itself was near perfect. This Wahl is the closest replacement I could find but it's a poor second place. It took me more than an hour just to do initial familiarity and assembly. This unit has multiple difficult to assemble plastic combs (and one difficult to adjust adjustable comb) of various lengths as opposed to the T980 which has a simple single comb with a built-in rotary wheel to adjust length of cut. The Wahl also has a narrower cutting head than the T980. This is my initial observations and I will update with actual use of the Wahl, but already missing my T980. Wondering why Philips didn't just update old NiCad to newer batter technology. Update: 9-15-20: Same as above; very difficult to use if you use the combs. They are difficult to get in place and then they easily fall off during use. So miss my old T980 Philips Norelco.

My last beard trimmer was the first generation of the Vacuum Trimmer. That was fair at sucking up the clippings but this is a huge improvement! The vacuum is much stronger and the overall design is more effective. The trimmer is also much easier to clean after a trim. A little tip - it is more effective if you use it in an upward motion rather than moving down through your beard. With a downward motion the clippings are falling away from the trimmer and makes it harder for it to suck them up. With the upward motion it is much more effective at catching the clippings.

I had a Norelco 7200 since 2016. Yes, the clippers broke 3 times but Norelco always replaced them. Other than that, when working, the trimmer was excellent. Unfortunately, the 7200 broke again and this time Norelco couldn't replace the part. So I had to get a new trimmer. Wahl was the obvious choice given their reputation. I got the 9870. The first time I used it, I felt it was ok. Finding the right comb was was hard and I ended up using the tightest/smallest one. I was surprised that the Wahl really couldn't trim as short or close as the Norelco. At times, I like to go with a very short, almost stubble length. The second time I used the Wahl 9870, my beard was longer. This time, the Wahl kept pulling hairs. It was painful and really annoying. I ended up holding the broken 7200 together to finish the job for two reasons. 1. I wanted the length shorter than what the Wahl could do. 2. I couldn't handle hairs being pulled. Not certain where I go from here. I'm hoping there is a trick with the Wahl to get a closer cut and to avoid hair pulling. I'm also looking for what replaced the 7200 at Norelco and just buy that clipper.

It’s a pretty trimmer first of all. Lightweight and easy to handle, nearly doesn’t really feel like I’m carrying anything, thus I can worry less about using it for long periods of time and it will make me go back to using it without hesitation.
Also, the bag is very handy and very presentable. Very lovely to carry too. Also there are many blade guards in the package and thus many options for different hair trimming levels which I find interesting. Though I feel the price is a little bit on the high side, I am convinced that the durability and long life span will make up for it. It’s easy to charge too as it charges very fast.

Using the trim guides is not always easy to accomplish. Sometimes trying to mount or unmount the guide causes the cutting blade assembly to pop off. Re mating this is also not easy.

The blade is sharp, the action is quick, the vacuum is better than the 20 yr old model.
The balance is good while moving about the face and head.

I bought one of these and it has been fine. So, I bought another one for my father to use. His, this purchase, broke after a few weeks of use. I read about in the reviews that others have had this problem before I bought the 1st one, but it had not been an issue with that one. I just figured I would just use it as a trimmer and not remove the head to change from blades to use the nose/ear hair attachment and not have it break because of that. So, I bought the 2nd one for him and advised him to do the same. But, the head fell off while he was using it and it was so difficult to put back on that he broke it while trying to re-attach the blade unit onto the body. Wahl needs to _FIX THIS_ in the design of the unit!!! They have too many complaints about this to ignore it. It was just a few days past the return to Amazon window or I would send it back to them. Still considering whether or not to go through the hassle of sending in to the manufacturer for repair. I like the Wahl products I've had before. Very disappointed in this case!

I purchased The Wahl Vacuum trimming set because I wanted a trimmer that didn't leave stubble all over the bathroom. Before I get carried away, this trimmer sucks in the stubble! So much more sanitary, and the vacuum action REALLY WORKS! With my old trimmer, my wife always knew when I shaved/groomed, and not because I looked groomed, it was the stubble around the sink! Prior to purchasing another trimmer, I would use my old one to trim beard (stubble style), clean nose hairs, and ears. My prior trimmer wasn't as easy to get the ear hairs, but this new design REALLY gives a quick 5 min refresh! No face razor needed! No razor bumps or burns. I'll be travelling next month to a warm climate, and this came with a convenient travel bag! A must have!

I was hoping that when I trim, it will vacuum all trimmings but it only vacuumed about 20% and the rest was all spread in and around the sink. It cuts fine and the accessories are good but the vacuum function does not work well. I wanted to return it but had thrown the packaging etc. so now I have to keep it.

Wish I'd spent the extra $ few years ago. I will use it instead of shaving 2 or 3 times a week. Only used once with short stubble. Vacuum worked well. Will update when use few more times. The Remington I was using lasted 2 years before got too dull. Highly recommended, self sharpening great feature.

Update: Have been using about 5 weeks now. I haven't put a towel over the sink, vacuum is working great.

UPDATE January 15th 2021: Still happy with this trimmer. Use it 2 or 3 times a week instead of shaving still. Staying isolated for the virus and wearing masks to town. Don't have to shave, the mask covers any short stubble. Vacuum still works great. When I clean out the plastic collector. Just blow out trimmings so I don't open it. My thinking is it will last longer and hinge won't break.

Overall a great, solid product that does what it's supposed to do without hassle. I really liked that it was battery powered which frees you from being tied to the wall. If you haven't tried a trimmer specifically designed for facial hair, I would highly recommend this one. As others have noted the vacuum feature doesn't work as well as you'd hope, but it's certainly better than not having a vacuum at all. This comes as a complete kit with everything you need including a convenient carry bag. This could easily become your replacement trimmer for the next 10+ years.

This is a pretty good clipper.. the collection for hair does kinda work but it's no where near 100%.. tiny little hairs still fly away, but for longer hairs it is much more effective.. I say 50-60% is the average of collection for me.. if you are looking for 100% this probably will fall short, but I do think it is well built and has a good battery life.. I have used it 10+ times and only charged it when it first came..

I really liked this trimmer. It comes with a bunch of different attachments - all that you could want. It also comes with a handy travel bag. I really like the sleek design and how it feels light when using. It keeps its charge for a long time and it gives a good quality trim every time. It's pretty quiet too. think I'll be using this for a long time. It feels very smooth in my hand when using it and clearing out the stubble is easy. The only issue I had was the quality of the instructions. I think they could be clearer - I broke a piece of plastic trying to install the main attachment. Other than that, the price was right and I'm quite happy with this purchase!

Dear Readers, I am providing here some feedback on my experience using the Wahl Vacuum Trimmer. To begin with i give it a 5-star rating along with a strong recommendation for its purchase and use. It definitely is fit-for-purpose. Between my monthly haircuts, i found it meaningfully usefully for daily trimming of my sideburns and the hair around my ears, thereby allowing me to remain professionally presentable! Additionally, whilst maintaining my goatee, this trimmer was fantastic 'mowing' down my relatively thick facial hair to further allow me to keep a freshly barbered appearance. Given its light weight and ability to be cordless, I regularly had it handy at work and after the gym. An added bonus! Overall it is a very useful product to buy that I highly recommend! Don't hesitate!

I had a Remington VPG6530 and broke the adjustable head setting while cleaning it. So I bought this as a replacement, because I had had good luck with Wahl trimmers in the past and saw that the length adjustments were individual attachments. So I thought that would eliminate what happened to my Remington. Turns out the design of that head that broke makes all the difference in how it keeps the hair from flying off the cutting blades. This Wahl does a good job at cutting the beard, bit only catches about half the hair and sends the other flying in all directions. I found an outlet that had a replacement for my old one, so I bought it. I'll keep the Wahl around and try to create a fix using the broken head.

The 1-10 adjustable guide is different than my previous Wahl Vacuum Trimmer (circa 2003). My usual setting was 9 for the front, 8 for sides, and 7 for bottom. Those settings (9-7) on this one basically wrecked my beard, which I've had since 1986. I look like I just started my beard and tried to fade it without any guards. It will grow back, but it is embarrassing in the meantime and a HUGE disappointment to me for Wahl.

This is a pretty good trimmer, with almost great features. It cuts evenly, quickly, and with just a pass or two. The vacuum feature is a super cool idea that reduces time and effort spent on cleanup, but doesn't eliminate it. If you are in the market for a good all-purpose trimmer, with full attachments, a nice storage bag, and a way to reduce time cleaning up after a routine shave, this is a great option.
