Yep, detached as in fallen off.
First time it was cold and it became un-clipped at the wiper arm. Was still in the parking lot, so back on it went.
Today The blade came off of the plastic adaptor whick then un-clipped from the wiper arm. In the rain.
Sorry but this is just a terrrible wiper for my car as it needs to stay attached to be considered safe.
Before you purchase, make sure this will fit your style of wiper though, as wiper blades are not universal.
The install is ultra easy (videos are available on YouTube) and the blade seems to be working better than what was stock after 3 weeks. I havenβt had any issue with streaks, but ice can still build up on it, allowing the surface to be uneven. I used these with quite a bit of snow on my windshield and it brushed it off without a problem and didnβt leave streaks most of the time. There hasnβt been any wiper blade noise.
Based off the last several weeks, I would encourage others to try this blade if theyβre looking for something new.
It took a few weeks but when it finally rained while i was driving on the highway I had the opportunity to test the wipers. And I can tell you that there is definitely no chatter on the wipers, none whatsoever and water removal is great, clean and crisp with no streaks.
There is one issue though, there is an annoying squeak on the driver side (28" blade) right when the wiper stops and changes direction. At low speeds there is no squeak, but once you approach 55+, the sound becomes noticeable. Since this is only on the driver side and not on the smaller passenger (20" blade) side, I can definitely agree with previous reviews about subtle differences with the larger wiper blades.
Five stars for the 20" blade and Four stars for the larger 28" blade.
Update: 10/3/15
I lowered it to 4 stars after realizing that it was not the speed that caused the squeaking but the volume of rain. In heavy rain, the squeak is very noticeable and rather annoying.
I took off one star because the clips did not stay connected to the J-hooks on the wiper arms on my 2002 crown victoria. I had to VERY slightly bend the J-hook a little smaller to get the clips to stay clipped in. It was then very hard to get them to clip in but they finally did and are very tight! Not sure if this is a design flaw of the clips on the wiper blade or just a simple tolerance issue with manufacturing.
Because of how well they lasted, I began my search for the original equipment. I wanted only original equipment. I found them. That's what these are! They even have the metal pivot pin like the original. Pep Boys (a local major retail car parts store) had the normal RainX etc brand wipers. The parts man directed me to "Hook" type wipers. Hook wipers fit probably 90% of the cars but they do not fit my 2007 GMC Yukon Denali. It uses an "upper clip" type wiper blade (GM part #25877402). No adapters, or arm changes are needed. Both left and right are 22" blades.
Installation- The inclosed instructions are sufficient but a couple tips:
1. Take your time.
2. When removing, take note of how the old blades slot slips into the Wiper arm at the tip. It's easy to install incorrectly and although the blade will stay on for a while, they will not work properly.
3. When sliding in the new blade, you've got to press fairly firmly until it "clicks".
The only Con is the price. What happened to $12 for a PAIR of wipers?!? I guess I should be happy I actually got what I paid for!
Update 2-8-12:
It rained and, the wipers performed like the stock ones. They were smooth, quiet, efficient with no streaks.
Update 10-20-12:
No problems
Update 11-4-13
Still no problems
Update 12-2-14
One of the wipers developed a 1 inch tear where a stick was stuck under the wiper for a few days. It causes a 1" streak. Other wiper still perfect: no streaks, sounds, or chattering. One wiper down...lasted almost 3yrs!
Update 12/1/18 Was working well until one of wipers developed a tear so I replaced both again. Good service for 4 years. Still happy with wipers.
Now I do have a slight complaint but it isn't bad enough to take a star off. When I was installing the new blades I noticed that the retaining clips on top of the wipers and the end caps had come off of the wipers that I had installed for the past 2 years. I don't think it warrants any star reduction because I didn't even notice until I was taking the wipers off so it obviously didn't affect performance. The end cap might have helped prevent me from destroying one of the blades with my scraper a few months ago but at that point I was thinking about getting new ones anyway.
On the negative side, ever since new these wipers would chatter on the return sweep at any speeds over 60 MPH. Some streaking, but not bad.
Also, the little plastic cover would tend to come up whenever the wipers were handled (cleaning the windshield). It went from bad to worse recently where the plastic wiper holder broke, so now the wipers are no longer locked into place. This has never happened to me before with dozens of different wiper blades. Troubling!
My allegiance to Valeo has been broken. Trying out Bosch instead. Worth noting that a leading consumer review organization (initials C.R.) gives the Valeo 900 series only middling marks.
I travel up to the mountains in Arizona a few times a month, yes it rains up in the mountains. I have had these for over a year now 15 months, and they are not brittle from the heat and they still are like new when it rains. My whole family uses them and they are the only kind we have not had to replace every 6-10 months.
Testing by a leading consumer magazine rated the Valeo 900 one of the top performing blades available today
New Tec3 advanced rubber technology offers quiet wipe and longer life
Optimum visibility and long lasting, durable performance due to the even blade-to windshield pressure attributed to the integrated flexors (1,500+ pressure points)
Easy to install with no adapter required
Valeo wipers help to improve driver safety and confidence by providing optimum visibility in all weather conditions
Best-in-class aerodynamics attributed to the integrated spoiler - High-speed performance
No metal superstructure to collect ice and snow - The Ultimate all-season wiper blade
New Tec3 advanced rubber technology - Quiet wipe and longer life
Even blade-to-windshield pressure attributed to the integrated flexors (1,500+ pressure points) - Optimum visibility and long lasting, durable performance
Easy-to-install - No adapter needed
I sent back the original order and after further research ordered this blade from another site - Sorry Amazon. This is a very good blade.
This time around (4/4/2016) I purchased genuine MB blades again. Other than small MB stars on each blade, they are visually the same as the Valeo blades, but cost about $10 more total. I wanted to try the MB blades to see how long they last to see whether they are exactly the same as the Valeo or whether Valeo formulates the MB specific ones in a different way as to last longer.
Regardless, these are the best non-branded OEM blades I've had. I think they outperform the Bosch (which I also think were very good).
Also, Amazon, how do you make money off these? I ordered 2 at the same time for my truck. Got them shipped prime 2 day but each wiper came in its own box and seperate postage for each?? There was MORE than enough room to fit them both in one box??
UPDATE:
been about 2 1/2 years and just now thinking of getting a new set. Went thru 3 winters and just started to chatter on very cold days but not bad! Can't believe how long and well these have worked. Wont even bother trying any other brand
I've had these wipers for over 17 months now and they're still streak-free! I have two on my windshield and one on the rear glass of my 1999 one-owner SUV. I've never had wipers that have lasted this long, and I've tried many in the 17 years I've owned my SUV. I'm considering buying another set, since sooner or later they are bound to fail.
As I mentioned in my original review below, since these blades have no springs, they're great as winter blades too. Blades with springs will freeze up and fail to conform to the curvature of a windshield. I've spent far more money, for years, on inferior blades. I'm sold on these.
Original Review:
This wiper holds tight to the glass and does not streak. The flexible design does not use metal springs or pivot points like old style blades due. They can be used as winter blades without worrying that snow and ice will clog the mechanism and prevent a snug fit to the windshield.
I hope this feedback helps the company so they can help us get a good quality product at an affordable price.
Before i forget. Amazon did the right thing and took care of me immediately. What an outstanding company 10 stars for Amazonand their employees.
Good Luck.
*** June 3rd, 2013 Update ***
I purchased a set of Valeo Ultimate's 2 years ago for my '07 Saturn Aura XR. After trying several other alternatives, I'd finally settled on them being the best option. They held up through the Michigan seasons for 2 years. Needed some new ones finally, so I grabbed another set. My wife's '09 Saturn Aura XE needed some new ones as well, so we've both got matching wipers now. I'll look to Valeo again in another 2 years or for our next vehicle, whichever comes first.
Result? Clear glass. I'm one of those people that hates anything on my window... these wiper blades are fantastic!
Protip: You won't be able to go buy "refills" for these at the corner auto parts store like you can with the metal-frame wipers you've probably had in the past. The whole thing will need to go in the trash and you'll need to buy new wipers. So if you're the type that buys the cheapy refills instead of the whole wiper, you may want to keep the wiper frame you're removing from your car in case you ever want to go back from these awesome wipers to your mediocre refills. :)
The 'simple' hook installation was indeed pretty straight-forward, but then I couldn't close the little plastic door which is supposed to click into place without breaking it. The same happened with the other wiper, so I just took off that piece but now my wipers look bare at the point where they rotate around the hook/arm (whatever the correct technical term is)...
An additional 5 star rating should go to Amazon's wiper selection tool. Twice this summer I bought at a local store. The in store guide told me wipers fit but they did not.
I got it last year and did not fit. Thought it was a mistake and they shipped the wrong product. I ordered it again this time and once again it has the wrong connection . You would think after 1 year they would have corrected the listing . Pretty disappointing . Amazon must be losing their shirt with all the returns
for those trying to fit an audi. Look for what is called a "gen 2" connector. It takes about 10 seconds to remove and replace the wiper
Now it does work for me fine, and wipes the rain perfectly, been a few months, no streaks where normally cheaper replacements start falling apart or the blade edge develops cracks or cuts and streaks appear when wiping.
So many people wrote great reviews, and i purchased them because of the great reviews, and i have a very poor experience with them. Not sure what else to say or do!
These blades were easy to install without any tools.
As a pair they were a perfect fit, and the difference in visibility as well as the quietness of operation, from that of other blades is truly amazing.
If you're considering these for an Odyssey, be sure to note the 22in bladeΒ
Went quickly from a 5 to a 2 star after 6 months of use. The extreme end of the wiper started to bend and twist making considerable noise and worry for the user. To its credit, the wiper still functioned by clearing the heavy rain but it looks and sounds like it is about to fail completely. This appears to be a product or design flaw. No wear or breakage is apparent. Can't wait for mfgr. replacement, so will source another solution. TB.
Although fit was exact on a I&L arm connector, the actual blade life was just terrible. Less than half of a "cheap" replacement, let alone what I paid for these.
After the overwhelming reviews, I'm not sure if I got a defective pair, but I really hope that other customers are getting more than 5 months from a set of rather expensive wiper blade replacements...
As for the seller, packing was nice - lots of protective material. The item was shipped promptly and received within a few days.
UPDATE: Fell apart within one month of use. Junk!
Cleaned really well in the beginning, Quiet too.
2 hours into the trip the driver side blade started to make noise at the ends of the movement.
Ended up discarding it and bought a cheap unit to take me home.
Maybe I had a reject...
Update: Now a month old, the second blade has started screeching and skipping on the screen.
Definitely not recommended!!!!
