Been running this as an access point mounted in a tree in my back yard for about 6 months now and it’s still going strong despite the elements!

UPDATE:

After almost a year the squirrels have taken a toll on this access point. The antennas have been chewed on and today I noticed the AP was hanging by the cable because something ripped the plastic mounting plate off the screws. Despite the antenna damage and being pulled off the tree it's still working. The only way to solve the squirrel problem would be to install a metal pole and properly mount the AP which is something I'm not willing to do on the edge of my yard. So I'll remount using metal bands this time instead of the plastic wall plate.

Update:
It’s been almost 2 years the squirrels have done havoc and the ants have now found their way in and I think the ap is finally dying. I climbed the tree 3 days ago to kill the ants and reset the AP. It worked great for about 2 days before returning to disconnected mode. Side note the heat index has been over 100 the past 3 days. We’ll see what happens, hopefully my UAP Mesh lives on!

This was Fulfilled by Amazon from seller We Love TEC. The UAP-AC-M date on the box was August 2017 so this particular unit was at least 8 months in the box.

Needed to extend the wireless signals to an unattached garage approximately 35ft away. Currently, have an all Ubiquiti Unifi setup (Unifi AP's, router, switches and cloud key). Decided that mesh was the easiest/best way to extend the signal for what was needed and the UAP-AC-M fit the bill (compact and strong enough wireless signals with the included antennas). Though this AP can be pole mounted outdoors, I wall-mounted it indoors since I didn't want to have to worry about grounding the UAP-AC-M.

With initial setup, connected the UAP-AC-M directly to a Unifi POE switch and then opened the Unifi cloud key controller and then adopted the UAP-AC-M. The controller software also indicated that a firmware upgrade was available so did that next. Then enabled the Wireless Uplink for the antenna.

After the wireless uplink was enabled, disconnected the UAP-AC-M (access point) from the POE switch and then walked over to the garage and mounted the antenna and the included POE injector inside the garage (note that there were no screws for the injector wall mount included in the box, only for the antenna wall mount). Connected a Cat6 cable between the POE injector and the UAP-AC-M and then plugged the injector power cord into a wall outlet. The UAP-AC-M turned on and started with a blinking white light and then eventually turned into a solid blue light which meant a successful wireless uplink to a wired AP. I left the wireless uplink on auto in the controller software so it chose the strongest signal available from a wired AP for the wireless uplink. In this case, the wired AP it connected to was a UAP-AC-HD model.

Checked back on the controller for the wireless uplink strength between the UAP-AC-M and the auto chosen wired AP and it was reading 71% (-61.0 dBm). It has since been fluctuating between 81% and 71% so now have really good. wifi in the unattached garage.

We are finding that the UAP-AC-HD does not have the range of the UAP-AC-Pro and for a single user is not as fast. BUT, when heavily loaded the UAP-AC-HD seems to handle much heavier aggregate loads. Thus, the UAP-AC-HD is probably a good choice in areas where there will be many, many users and the UAP-AC-Pro may be a better choice where greater coverage and fewer users is required.

This is an access point. You connect it by cable to a router (that assigns IP) probably some distance away.
Ships with a 24 volt POE insertion adapter OR will operate with 802.3af POE.
In my case, the house was wired with cat5 20 years ago. Mesh was not tried as we knew signals did not make
it between floors. Lots of HVAC ductwork from 3 units downstairs.

I used 3 Google (not the newer Nest) Wifi mesh indoors but with wired backhaul from the available cat5.
SO - Utility Fiber ONT to one Google wifi router (near Lower right bedrooms). Out of router to 5 port switch. Connect 3 switch ports to patch panel servicing 2 Google wifi units (Lower left Bedrooms & Main level Bed & living area. Third port to Ubiquity POE adapter then onto this access point and outdoor directional antenna to provide wifi up to 350' away to floating dock. Download Ubiquity app and setup as standalone device. Not part of mesh but I used same SSID/pass. Just adjusted channels to not interfere with mesh channel assignment.
Very Happy thus my Dad is happy he can work on dock and stream TV.

So I picked up a refurbished UAP-AC-HD here at Amazon. I needed an access point to replace my old router that I was re-purposing as one. I'm using this in my home, so this is a bit overkill. My house is shaped like a square box and is about 2400 Sq ft. The modem is in one corner and I needed to get the signal to the other, diagonal corner. The old router worked, but just barely. Never getting full download speeds. I've tried using a wifi repeater, but after about a 18 months, it just seemed to keep dropping the signal, so I got rid of it.

After replacing the old router with this AP, and putting in the exact same corner as my old router, it was like night and day. On the other side of the house, I not only got an almost full strength signal at -50 dBm, but -50 dBm on 5Ghz. I'll probably die of brain cancer from the amount of radio waves this thing is putting out. But they can bury me in my back yard with my tablet, and I'll still probably be able to get Netflix.

- A newly loyal and satisfied customer happily sacrificing brain cells.

I have upgrade an old Ubiquiti LR to this Ubiquiti HD and am very impressed at the coverage. I have more channels going, more devices connected, and actually gained some speed. After suffering thru many years of other brands in a rather spread out home, I found a wireless that actually seems to follow me. I have almost no drop in quality at the extremes of my home and can now sit on the back swing and read the news online. Thanks for the great upgrade.

I am a Linux Systems Administrator and discovered Ubiquiti products a couple of years ago. I became so impressed with the products, we've made them the standard deployment for our clients. That all changed recently.

This Wi-Fi product was the one I purchased for my own personal use at home. For over a year it has been the best Wi-Fi product I've ever owned. Then it started having some issues. An iPad in the house could not seem to get onto the Wi-Fi in any way, though it could connect to all others. I tried to bring up the management interface to troubleshoot and discovered that it would not let me logon. After much research, I theorized that this was due to one of two known issues with the product's firmware and decided to reset it to factory defaults so that I could gain access again.

I've literally performed hundreds of factory resets of devices in my twenty-five years in IT. It isn't all that hard to do. Stick a paper clip in the hole and push down. When I do the factory reset of this device, I hear a pop and my paper clip slides all the way through the hole. The reset button inside broke. If I were reading this review I'd be wondering if I didn't just ram the paper clip down the hole too hard. That is not the case. As I said, it's not like I haven't done this many times before on other products. I used the same amount of force I've used on every other reset I've done in my professional career. After opening up the case, which was NOT easy at all, I discovered the broken parts of the reset button. It didn't just detach, it broke. I was not going to be able to fix it on my own, and now the product won't boot.

I turned to Ubiquiti for help in getting the product fixed since I had spent nearly $400 on my Wi-Fi. I knew the product was out of warranty and though I felt that a manufacturing defect like this should have been fixed at no charge, I wasn't going to quibble and offered to pay for the repair. Ubiquiti refused to make the repair, even with payment being offered. They said that they don't do that sort of thing.

So I do some Google searches and find several other crippling defects people are reporting and of course others with the same issue as me. I have not been able to find anyone else who can make the repair, so now have a $400 brick and no home wi-fi. I am experiencing a manufacturing defect at the least or a design problem at the worst, and Ubiquiti will not stand behind their product.

I've decided to stop using them professionally as well. The only way this could have been worse is if this had been a professional deployment rather than a personal one. I would probably have to eat the cost of replacement rather than lose the client. I can't afford to take the chance on Ubiquiti products any longer.

I used this unit to replace a TP-Link EAP-110 which suddenly started giving me problems. It is much easier to set up than the TP-link and unlike the TP-Link the antenna is somewhat adjustable so you can direct the beam. I bought it based on the advertised range of 600 feet but I am only getting about 200 feet range (direct line of sight) with the standard antenna that comes with it. It should be noted that in order to get the 600 foot range you will need the separate UMA-D antenna for another $100+. This should have been made clear thus minus one star

I hesitated before writing this. I don't want Ubiquity to rest on their laurels. But they do make a good WIFI access point. I had a site where there was no chance of running a wire. Using the Unifi controller I setup all the access points while wired to a POE switch.

Then I removed one of them and put it in a remote location with it's power supply but no Ethernet cable. The network controller software recognized it and labeled it "isolated" Then I told the controller to connect to it with a wireless uplink. Magic!! I no longer have to struggle with WIFI extenders that don't work.

After snooping around the ubiquiti unified solutions for a while and testing the cheaper APs, I was appalled by their performance due to the use of a very low grade consumer N chipset to which they only added an AC radio. The enterprise/professional grade solutions seemed overpriced and preferring maybe stability, features and support to performance I have been disappointed for my use cases. The issue being that Apple's routers brought in stability. decent yet simple feature sets and consumer grade (i.e much higher) performance. The UAP AC HD is the first AP I found which offers both performance (using a current AC wave2 class chipset) and stability of the Apple ones. The competing other enterprise solutions are much more expensive... Kudos to ubiquity finally having a performance offering. I have attached some test results on 5GHz AC showing the max speed on my network of various routers/APs.

This is an outstanding piece of equipment from UBNT, all other electronics manufacturers should take note!

It was easy to setup, has all the way up to wireless a/c connectivity so it’s super fast, and is a well-made and durable piece of equipment that can work indoors and outdoors!

Two things that are important for you to note, this is an access point, which means you have to connect it to a router for it to work correctly, it can’t just plug in to your modem. And secondly, you have to power it via PoE (Power over Ethernet), which just means you need to use the included adapter to power the device through the ethernet cable, or a special router (which you’ll only have if you are a large enterprise user).

So. Why else is it great? Well. I plugged it in to my router, downloaded the app from the app store, fired it up and BAM, everything was working. As in, immediately it was working. I will upload pictures of the setup, but I don’t think a router has ever worked for me out of the box like that. So there. You want to extend your WiFi? Buy this AP!

These are AWESOME. A little larger than the AC PRO (which is also AWESOME) but uses the same bracket so it was an easy swap out. This thing fly's. I just put it up last night so I will update this after I kick the tires for a while. I have two on my first and second floor as I'm still renovating the basement. For a family of four with phones, iPads, computers, Nest devices, gaming systems, printers, cameras, Roku and Apple TV, smart TV, smart watches... The list goes on. Each HD can accommodate 500 clients so I should be good for a minute. I used to have one Apple Airport in the middle of my house which was fine but really not Ludicrous speed. I tried Mesh systems and always felt they should be called MEH systems. So I went totally Ubiquiti. USG Pro 48 Port POE switch. Where I could I ran network lines directly (also with redundant cables). I am beaming!!

So I had to make do with what I had and make my WiFi as strong as possible.

I bought the UniFi ac hd. These reviews here are of all the models. I bought this to replace an AirPort Extreme system and about 6 airport express access points. I didn’t realize how out of date This was until hooking this up. I have them wired to a Linksys WRT32X and the newest Arrus 3.1 cable modem w 300 MBs Comcast subscription.
Service is needed for a 6k 3 store home w daylight basement and 100 foot for pool area
Contrary to what are the reviews have written, you do not need a UniFi Router. In fact I seem to get better speed from the Linksys router 250 then I do the APs 200. Overall I have saw my iPhones speeds change from 20 to 60 mega bits per second on the Apple hardware to 100 to 250 Mb per second. Of note if you have any network switches be sure they’re not 10/100 and that they are gigabit switches. Also beware that some ether net cable is 2 pair rather than four pair wire. The two pair wire will not carry the power over Internet as it does not have the extra wires. Also contrary to what are the reviewer‘s have written this is an extremely user-friendly device. simply load the app on your phone it automatically finds the router you put in the admin credentials and then the your Wi-Fi name and password. Use the same type of security, network name and password on all the points including the router and your devices will seamlessly switch between points

And most important if the app asks for a login it is U: unify P: unify. I swear that isn’t in the box and I needed that to make it work.

I have been using products from this brand for several years and have never had any complaints. I purchased two of these about two months ago to test an outdoor mesh network. So far, so good. They are placed roughly 300 feet apart, outdoors in line of sight. The connection between the two access points is roughly 50% which allows for great coverage. I find that I can easily connect to this access point in a building 150ft away with no loss of connection.
This access point comes with a couple mounting options - for both pole and wall mount. The antennas are removable. The power supply also includes a mount. Installed outdoors, I have had no water infiltration with these units even with the antennas on the top side. Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase and this product. I would highly recommend these access points as well as this brand.

I have a ton of devices on my network, wireless alone goes over 140 connected devices at my house. The network is set up as a 20bit LAN. I wanted an upgrade and needed something that would handle it. I've had good luck with Ubiquiti equipment before using the Edge Routers as an internet QoS appliance bridge. While I originally set up the AP using the app on my Android phone there were tons of missing features I was after. I needed AP Isolation, Guest network options, connection bandwidth limitation/shaping among other things. Most of that stuff isn't accessible through the phone application unless you set up a Unifi Controller. You can buy dedicated hardware for that with the Ubiquiti Cloud Key, or you can download the software and set it up in a VM or even using a super cheap RaspberryPi. I went the rPi route with a POE hat and offloaded the Raspbian build as a headless system, then I moved the root of the drive to a dedicated SSD and left the boot portion on the MicroSD. With the Unifi Controller software set up, I moved the AP over and unlocked all the features I was missing. I was planning on picking up at least one more of these but the coverage is amazing. The house is 5000+ square feet and three levels. The AP was mounted in a central location and all of my devices came online with an SNR better than -72. Throughput test on the old mesh set up topped out at 90 average down and 78 average up at an unobstructed 12' distance from the AP and 32 total connected wireless devices. The Unifi AP topped out at a steady 190-210 asynchronous with 83 devices connected.

The two things I don't like about it... the overly apple look and feel to everything as well as the lack of functionality in the Android app.

I live in a highly WiFi congested area and have tried numerous so called high end APs, many of which look more like toys than networking gear, and these things live up to the hype. With so many fake reviews out there it's hard to know what is real and what isn't but I paid full retail for these and would do so again just so I don't have to mess with the consumer level crap. My house is about 2,100 sqft and because of the heavy WiFi congestion in my area I needed to buy two. I use it with the USG and combined with the UniFi controller software it is freaking awesome. If you don't mind spending a little extra and want to stop dealing with crappy intermittent WiFi do yourself a favor and try a couple UniFi AP-AC-HD APs out, you will be glad you did.

I've been running them for about two months and couldn't be more pleased.

I recently upgraded to 1 Gbps with my ISP but the relatively older AC Pro could only provide 300 Mbps (or 350 if I'm lucky), so I started looking and bought this AP. Yes, it's super pricey but I still think it's worth it. I can get about 500 to 600 Mbps wireless speed and I couldn't be any happier.

Couple of user tips that I suggest UBNT users to do, is NOT to use everything auto, specially the wireless channel selection and output power, you need to do the site survey to find the sweet spots. Otherwise, even a super capable Access Point would not give you full speed as you have expected.

I was updating an older, failing, UAP Outdoor access point. it had served me well for quite sometime but finally started to give up the ghost with frequent power cycling. That, and the fact that the old UAP only supported 2.4GHz, made it time for an upgrade.

After a little research to make sure this would work as a stand alone AP (along side my other units) I placed my order. So far I've been pleasantly surprised. The unit itself is slightly smaller than a typical TV remote (no counting antennas) and it's all weather construction and flexible antennas means it can be positioned anywhere you need it. Another surprise is that this unit worked on good old 802.3af PoE without the need of either the (included) Ubiquiti injector or one of their PoE adapter connections that its predecessor needed to function with my switch.

Over all a fantastic access point for outdoor use.

Do not plan to use these wirelessly if you don't have an existing Access Point that covers the 5Ghz spectrum (like the original UAP, which is 2.4Ghz only).

I have 4 of the original UAP access points in my two story house and those have worked great for years. They finally solved the annoying spotty coverage in our wood frame, lath and plaster walled 1911 craftsman. Coverage in the backyard was still weak but I didn't care until I installed a wireless Yi Home camera to watch my chicken coop back there. It soon became clear I would need an outdoor access point.

I purchased this UAP-AC-M access point for it's weathproof-ness, and because it would connect via wifi so I wouldn't have to run a Cat6 wire out to the back yard. Unfortunately when I was trying to configure it last night I could only get it to appear on my Unifi Controller when it was hard wired to the LAN. It wouldn't appear as a wifi only uplink.

My suspicion was a conflict between the original UAPs, which are 2.4Ghz only, and this new Mesh AP which has 2.4 and 5Ghz. To test it, I connected the Mesh AP in place of one of my UAPs (so the Mesh AP was hard wired to the LAN) and then enabled the original UAP to uplink to the mesh via wifi. Bingo - now I had an AP that connected to the Controller via wifi only.

This is kind of a nuisance since now I will have to install my non-weatherproof UAP in the outdoor shed where I was going to install the weatherproof Mesh AP, but without buying another Mesh AP I don't have much of a choice. I'm hoping the sheltered spot where I put the 2.4 UAP will protect it enough to run for a couple years, at which point I'll pay for another Mesh-AP.

The great news is that adding the one AP fixed the poor connection in the backyard. My new wifi camera works great, and I get a strong wifi signal on my phone.

I continue to love, love, love my Unifi system. It was an investment to set up the whole thing (cloud key, security gateway, unifi switches, and APs), but it's lasted well and I love having the centralized controller to adjust radio signal strength, update firmware etc. Just be sure you have a 5Ghz enabled AP for this to connect through and you should be fine.

I wanted a commercial grade Wifi system, got tired of replacing Netgear/Linksys system that had poor range and malfunctioned after a year or two of use. I went with the UniFi mesh system after doing a little research. These are professional grade devices that I am overall pleased with after 6 months of use. But, prepare to do a lot of web work to get it up and running.
Pros:
Well made, professional looking and packaged
Installation instructions are minimal, but if you are a techie, its enough.
Installation is slick and beautiful if it works, two out of 5 AP's installed without a hitch, loved it. The other three...see cons below.
WiFi range is excellent, I have it installed on a 5 acre spread, good signal everywhere except a small area behind a huge metal work shop.
Ships with excellent mounting hardware.
POE Injectors are excellent quality, but have exposed ports that are not water proof for outdoor use. I do have two AP's installed outdoors, but the POE Injectors are out of the weather, it is 110 degrees here and they are still functioning.
The Cloud Key hardware is worth the price, it allows me to check on my setup remotely, most of the reported data are beyond my pay grade, and as you will see below, saved the day.

CONS:
As mention above, three of the AP's could not be "ADOPTED"/installed as easily as two others. They would say "CONNECTED/Requires firmware Update" but had no wireless signal. Updates repeatedly failed, whereas all the other AP's and UniFi components installed instantly. After hours of research combing Unifi's user forum and online manuals, very good by the way, I hit a dead end. Then by luck I discovered that I could save the firmware updates on the UniFi Cloud Key, then install onto the AP from there, and suddenly everything worked beautifully! So I had to remove one star for this extra effort that was not documented anywhere. I should probably take two stars off for the extreme hassel, but once I discovered the trick, everything worked so slickly.
Documentation of How to use the system is definitely lacking, there is so much more to this system than I am using because there is no guidance/hand-holding documentation from UniFi.
Conclusion:
If you have geek powers and don't mind digging out information, this is a slick system. If you are lucky everything will install with no effort. If not, seek YouTube and UniFi web site help.

I had this system with 4 APs, a 24 port POE switch and a 48 port switch. Worked FANTASTIC for 6 months. Then the controller suddenly quit working. Now I can't access any device via the controller or operate the monitoring software. Good luck with help! I used their chat feature. The "helper" pasted links to their help guides. Fine. But when I asked for specific clarification (15-20 min later) he posted (copy & paste) the contents of the URL?!?! That is some high-level passive aggressive behavior.

So now that the controller crashed, you have to reinstall it. This overwrites all your backups. So you have to re set-up everything. Ok you say, NOPE. Now you have to go to each AP that you installed on the ceiling and factory reset with a paperclip. That means uninstall, reset, re-install. So set aside a whole Saturday for a larger system.

So think about that when you buy because the alternatives plugging and unplugging the system every 3 months is a lot easier than the above scenario.

PROS: Rock-solid reliable. Super easy/quick to install. Unifi is great, as once you have setup one AP, each one you add is basically one click in the system to get fully setup. If you happen to need different settings for a specific AP for some reason, you can do that as well. Unifi also makes for quick and easy firmware updates to your AP's - it shows an update is available, and you click 'update' and it's done. You can do them individually, or even all with one click with a rolling update.

CONS: None specific to this model. The password requirements in Unifi are stupid -- stronger requirements than my bank -- I should have control of the password requirements of my own system. I am not thrilled that Unifi uses Java. Also, a nice addition to the Unifi AP's would be if you could also use them as standalone AP's. I love these, but I went with a different brand at home since I only need 1 AP. I would NOT want to install Unifi to control 1 AP. Some Ubiquiti AP's use non-standard POE, but these and the other model Ubiquiti AP's I have work fine with POE.

I started to automated my home 3 years ago, adding many items during that time, frustrated with items constantly dropping from the network and having to reset the devices to work. I am a disabled veteran, going in the route of home automation to help make life normal. I tried the Netgear Nighthawk series and the Netgear Orbi system, both were great for home use as far as phones, streaming movies and such, but for home automation, they both failed miserably.

Enter the Ubiquity HD Access Points that can have up to 500 items connect, the days of frustration are gone. These access points haven't dropped a single item in the week that they have been connected. I also went with the Ubiquity USG Router and a few switches for POE. If you are serious about having a smart home that works, this is the only product I would recommend for the home wifi system.

There are plenty of excellent reviews on this product so I won't go into a lot of detail around the technology, but I will highlight some of the better points of my experience.

My network is a mix of wired devices and wireless devices totaling over 100 with 60+ devices on Wi-Fi. Many standard devices such as phones, tablets and computers I also have cameras, a home security system and many IoT devices. I have four access points throughout the, not for signal reason, but to help balance the connections to each access point. My Internet speed coming in is 600 Mbps (download) and 20 Mbps going out (upload). I use a basic cable modem (non-router) and I have a firewall/security device.

My previously wireless system was very problematic, and the access points I had were not cheap ones. I experienced a lot of drops during the day and some devices would not even stay connected. For example, our refrigerator would connect for a day or two and then lose its connection to the Wi-Fi permanently. I would have to “reboot” and reconnect it over and over again. I just assumed the refrigerator had a flawed wi-fi card or firmware. I also experienced drops while streaming with frequent freezing of the video stream. The bandwidth/speed I was getting from the AP’s would average about 40 Mbps but would peak at 130 Mbps. Sometimes it would go as low as 10 Mbps. Whenever an access point was overloaded it would reboot causing Wi-Fi outages in certain areas for several minutes. When an access point went offline, the devices would attempt to reconnect to one further away getting a degraded signal with lower throughput. The issue went on and on until my wife called me at work completely frustrated because our kids could not get connected to their online classes, and when they got connected, they were being dropped every few minutes. I debated making the investment in Ubiquiti for some time but hadn’t because of the money I had invested in my current system. I went ahead and purchased four access points to replace the four I have now.

Installation was easy. I was fortunate that my previous AP’s were PoE, so I just swapped them out. I immediately noticed the improvement. When opening a web page on any device there was always a short delay in loading the page. The pages now load instantly with a very noticeable difference.

I used the PoE injectors that came with these new AP’s. I was also fortunate that I already have a server to install the UniFi Controller software.

A little side note about my sever; I was able to pick up a used blade server on which I run a free version of VMware ESXi to host a few servers. One is a pfSense firewall (open source and free). Two are Ubuntu severs running as Minecraft servers. All of this sounds complex and expensive but really is not. I cranked up a new Ubuntu 20 server and installed the Ubiquiti UniFi controller software which I downloaded from their web site.

The best part of these access points is that they are not stand-alone (although I believe they can run stand-alone). This is important for several reasons. First configuration is a breeze. Just setup your Wi-Fi network and all access points will get the configuration. Second, all monitoring is done via the UniFi Controller software which has a rich configuration and numerous capabilities. Third, you can configure the controller for remote access through Ubiquiti’s web site in a secured manner. I did not have to open any ports on my firewall. In addition, two-factor authentication can be turned on to provide an extra level of security to your AP’s. Finally, if you have other UniFi products from Ubiquiti this controller software. For example, you can get the Security Gateway and/or one of the (PoE) switches and manage them from this controller software.

If you plan on purchasing these access points plan on installing the controller software. If you don’t have a computer running all the time on your network, you can purchase the Ubiquiti Cloud Key which has the software running on it and connects to your local network (wired) to manage and control the AP’s. You can install the software on your computer or tablet to setup and manage the access points, but certain features, such as setting up a guest network, require the controller software to be running on the network all of the time.

The controller software has a new AI feature that analyzes the traffic and the connections and determines the best settings such as transmit power and channels. This help gets the best performance from your network. I have been running this for a week and watching the performance and stability increase each day. It is an amazing feature.

Since installing these access points, I have seen 100% of my issues go away. No more drops. No more AP’s rebooting. No more video streaming freezes. The bandwidth is amazing. All devices are averaging above 200 Mbps downloads from the Internet with peaks upwards of 350 Mbps. Even those devices that would not stay connected are up and running consistently with no issues. Most importantly, my kids are able to stay connected to their classes now without any performance issues or delays (my kids actually stopped complaining about the Wi-Fi!).

After purchasing the initial four access points, I decided to purchase a fifth. I have several devices running in my garage and outside (such as security cameras) that need some extra bandwidth. I ran a fiber cable from my main switch (which is also not very expensive these days) out to the garage. You may ask me why I need five access points. The answer is simply I do not want so many devices sharing a single LAN connection. In some cases, such as the garage, I needed a better signal in that area. Since these are HD AP’s I can use more in a smaller space and get excellent performance. I use more than one to get a good balance of signal and total throughput.

I am extremely impressed with the Ubiquiti line of products. They bring everything you need to have a professional grade Wi-Fi network in your home, complete with a high level of easy management and security at much lower prices than big companies pay. If you are working from home or depend heavily on your home network, do yourself a favor and invest in Ubiquiti.

I can definitely recommend these as the best Wi-Fi products available for the home.

I love these little guys. I was in the market for a WAP solution that will mesh. I didn't need anything beyond WAPs (no routing functionality required as I have an Ubiquiti Edgerouter-X for that) and I definitely didn't want anything that relied on outside servers to operate or use an app to control it (looking at you Google Wifi or similar).

What I like about these:
Very powerful feature set.
Stylish enough to have in the home without the wife being irritated
Excellent performance.
Set up initially and forget.
Very secure and frequently updated software.

What I don't like:
Having to install the controller software rather than access it via a self created web page (nature of the beast with this level of hardware though).

I have one of these wired into my switch using the provided PoE injector. The other is down a floor of our 2400 sq-ft condo and towards the other end of the building and it is only powered by the PoE injector (no wired uplink). It wirelessly connects to the first though meshing and the traffic is passed into my wired network that way. Performance has been excellent and these eliminated any slow spots around our entire home. Minimum performance is around 40mbps on 2.4GHz and upwards of 300mbps on the 5GHz band.

I like the guest network functionality and it works quite well even if you don't make any setting changes to your router. Previously I had created a guest network with a separate AP and firewall rules, but this removed that requirement. The ability to adjust power by band is nice as I set the 5GHz power higher than the 2.4GHz to encourage devices to use it instead (combined SSID).

I ended up installing the controller software on my Raspberry Pi which performs other network admin tasks for me already. To be clear, you do NOT need to run this software all the time nor do you need to create an Ubiquiti account. I opted to put it on my Raspberry Pi for the monitoring and logging capabilities. It gives me the level of control from my smartphone that other products offer without the need for external servers (I can even access it from outside my network since I VPN back to my house network anytime I am not at home).

These do take a little more setting up than the consumer level competitors, but if you are looking at this level hardware you should also know what is required to make it work. It's better than I expected, but still isn't a pop it out of the box and turn it on solution.

For my uses, these things are amazing. For less than competing products I have an excellent solution without all the potential security risks for features I don't need. Two are sufficing for my purposes, but I have no doubt a third would seamlessly integrate into my network if I needed it.

Thanks Ubiquiti!

I needed to get wifi pumped out to a barn about 100' from the house. Looked at using a wireless wifi bridge setup but decided to give this a try first as the rated range is 600' under optimum conditions. Not much more optimum than a straight shot with nothing in between, which is what I have.

The packaging and product was pretty, ala Apple iPhone/iPad. But will it work? Plugged the unit into my switch and configured it with a downloaded copy of the UniFi software. Took all of five minutes to get it connected to my network, security setup, etc. Software launches an app that runs in the background. Requires you to launch a web page for configuration, setup, network analysis, etc. (There is a dongle you can add to your network for full-time monitoring, cloud based access, etc. but it is pricey.)

I had a PoE cable already run to the corner of the house from my upstairs office. Mounted the UAP-AC-M on pole at the 15' level, sticking out from the side of the house that faces the barn. Plugged everything in and then went to check signal. Solid signal and it has been stable for several days now.

Some comparison numbers. The house has a couple Google Mesh wifi access points which bleeds some signal out to the barn. Random, one-off testing here across the numbers, not an in-depth analysis. I just ran the test five or six times using the SpeedChecker and WiFi Analyzer apps on my Android phone. So, consider the numbers accordingly.

2.4Ghz
House (Google) -27dBm
Barn (Google) -80dBm
Barn (UAP-AC-M) -54dBm

5Ghz
House (Google) -40dBm
Barn (Google) -86dBM
Barn (UAP-AC-M) -56dBM

Data rate across the Google Mesh in the house is ~600Mbs. The throughput out at the barn on the UAP-AC-M generally ranged from 180-270Bps, with a couple breath glimpses at 500+. I could not always get throughput rates for the different bands on the software I was using. In theory, the max on the 2.4Ghz band is 300Mbps and 867 Mbps on the 5Ghz band.

I did no optimization of the bands and channels, which would help the numbers. That said, I am in a rural area, so the only channel competition is from a neighbor about 300 yards away. I was seeing some signal from him, but it was very weak.

So, bottom line, the signal strength is good, the throughput a little lite on this product out-of-the-box. It gave me what I needed...enough wifi signal to be able to quickly look things up on the internet or check email. Light duty kind of stuff. If I end up needing more throughput, I will put in one of the Ubiquiti wireless bridges.

YOU HAVE TO GET UNIFI APs !! I am loving having the Unifi system in my house for increasing my Wifi range and speed. I live in an old victorian with three levels along with three patio spaces. I started my system with the Long Range AP and that covered about 80% of the house. Then I found these indoor/outdoor APs with similar specs for about $40 cheaper. I was having a lot of trouble getting strong wifi on the front and back patios. Adding one of these close to the exterior wall has completely taken care of the problem. For the price, you can not beat the speed and range you get off these APs. The only downside is the setup once you add more than one AP to your system. You will need a bit of IT knowledge to get everything working right.

Why didn't I buy one of these sooner?

For years I tried AP routers from Linksys, ASUS and Netgear. I upgraded to different firmwares - sveasoft, OpenWRT, DD-WRT and finally AdvancedTomato. They worked okay for a while but then different issues would arise - inconsistent network, dropped packets, weak wifi signal, etc.

I thought of upgrading to the next version of "Gaming Router," or maybe some sort of mesh network. I did a ton of research online, talked to friends and family. I knew about Unifi, and had always thought they were more for SOHOs or SMBs. But then I noticed many public places used them - gyms, stadiums, schools, and malls.

I decided to give Unifi a try - so I bought one of their biggest APs. I installed it right in the middle of the house - the upstairs hallway. So far this thing had worked flawlessly - basically set it and forget it.

The Unifi AP provides a strong WiFi signal throughout the house; but the best part is that even when I am far from the AP and the signal is weak, I still get good connection speeds!

I am now a complete Unifi convert. After the AP I also purchased their Dream Machine and a number of switches. The Unifi Controller - their online interface (also phone app) - gives you complete control over all of the hardware. The software has some of the best user interface I've ever seen - the perfect addition to their excellent equipment.

If you just read the product description, you think that you would connect this product to your network and it will beam it through wifi across the street. Well, it does not really work this way!!

Before buying this product I never heard about Ubiquiti and I was struggling with my consumer line router to get a decent when not utterly unstable perimeter video surveillance wifi network. Even the closest camera did not stream properly in the middle of the day for some reason and I am not in an overwhelmed radio neighborhood. I was using a Ampedwireless router with a repeater with underwhelming results, connections to the cameras dropped several time a day and I do not even mention the number of router reboot required to keep the system alive.

After intensive researches, I stumbled upon this product and seems to have good reviews even though the product was still quite mysterious to me, not much documentation and never seen it before. So I took a bid and thought that anyway, if it did not work, I would return it as I did with another router which did not help at all a week ago.

The first impression when opening the box is, Ok the packaging looks professional, not too much and just what is required to protect the product, the instruction leaflet is succinct but sufficient to get started. Installing and configuring the first AP was a breeze with the phone App but using the desktop App opens new horizons, you get so much more that I wonder how I could live without it until now!!

The way this product works is as follow:
whether you have an entire Ubiquiti network or just using your AT&T network, you MUST connect at least 1 AP (access point) WIRED to your network. This first AP will be the main access point to beam the mesh network afterwards. If you need more coverage, you just purchase another UAP-AC-M, place it where it has to be, plug the POE module and go the controller interface (software) to adopt the new access point, everything is almost automatic after that, you will be asked for the firmware update and then, your network will self balance and it is amazing!!

My video surveillance wifi has never been so rock solid and I have radio and network statistics in "real time" in the controller interface. I would say that the indoor coverage is pretty impressive in a 2200 Sq/ft house but outdoor coverage required a second AP which arrived the day after the order which was super convenient. The weakest camera signals roamed automatically to the second AP after a few hours, I could not be happier. So in short, with 2 APs, I beam from indoor and outdoor 14 devices with no disconnects whatsoever on a ca. 3000 Sq/ft surface.

My current router lasted a long time until EMP from a nearby lightning strike took out the WAN port. It was an Apple Airport Extreme and served me well. I wasn't looking forward to replacing it as you get spoiled by the Apple ease of use and quality. Unfortunately Apple got out of the network business a number of years ago. A friend pointed me to an article on Ars Technica reviewing the Unifi(Ubiquity) product. Amazon carried it and the price was right so I bought it. I LOVE THIS PRODUCT AND THOSE THAT GO WITH IT. I started with this WAP and the Universal Security Gateway. That would be a minimalist setup. I'm particularly impressed with the little things like the weather grommets and several different mounting arrangements all packaged neatly. You can tell a good product when the care an thoughtfulness includes the packaging and accessories. I live in a 3200 square foot split level ranch house and it took the AirPort Extreme and four or five Airport Express units configured as repeaters to cover it. Believe it or not, this single WAP could almost have sufficed alone but my garage was just a bit to far away (other end of the house.) When I saw how well these worked I immediately bought a second and now the ENTIRE HOUSE has SOLID Wifi!!

I installed one UEP-AC-M Unifi Mesh Access Point on one end of my house and have it linked to an AC Pro (saucer) access point from Ubiquiti. The concept of how these work is pretty neat, that said I have mine on a hard-wire for both power and network access. I could easily see purchasing a couple of more of these and placing one in each corner of my house or property.

For those new to Ubiquiti, the setup can be a little more tough than a standard stand-along configuration because these use a single software "Server" running a PC (Windows or Linux) to configure your network and manage your devices. While that can seem daunting, it is also great in that it gives you more flexibility and a greater range of controls. Once you have the hang of it, the server tool is easy to use.

Writing this review after a few months of ownership. My current setup is an AC-PRO in the (brick house) and the mesh access point in my separate garage. I’m running the ubiquity mgmt software on a spare Mac. The distance is probably 60 feet between both access points and the signal is traveling through Sheetrock, Concrete blocks (house built in the 60s), brick, aluminum siding on both the house and the garage and plywood. Even with that I am getting 80mbps which is perfectly acceptable to run a roku, iPad, iPhone, Nintendo switch and Alexa at the same time.

So prefacing I am a telecom engineer and project manager by trade with a background in networking, however, I am going to continue from the perspective of a home enthusiast looking to set up a prosumer environment. Most importantly why? You can get off the shelf mesh gear now cheaper than what it would take to set up a system like this. Well if you are an enthusiast you want performance, reliability and integrity. Yes you are inevitably buying into an ecosystem but that’s going to be the case no matter what.

Setup
Adopting this little bugger into the network was very automatic..like plug it in and it showed up in a few seconds within the Ubiquiti controller software to be adopted. That process took no time and a few minutes later my configs were done and it was mounted in my garage a few minutes later. I was honestly impressed at how well this worked. Assuming there’s a private SSID they all use or perhaps bluetooth to allow this magic.

Installation
This comes with an excessive amount of mounting options and all needed screws, adapters, etc. It’s about the size of a candy bar and the two onboard antennas can be adjusted and pointed back to home base. It’s POE powered and comes with a wall adapter so you get the best of both worlds.

Operation
This is an area that I’ve found interesting. Given the construction of my house I’ve spent some time tweaking out the configuration and finally got it perfected. Any issues are definitely magnified as you’ll see little quirks like devices joining the incorrect access points. One cool thing is that since you’re running the controller software you can use the mobile app and make a ton of adjustments on the fly including having your devices reconnect etc. That’s all a non issue though now as everything stays where it needs to be and my network experience is consistently 98%

So if you have an existing ubiquiti network and are looking to extend I would most definitely recommend the mesh access point although all of their devices support meshing now which presents plenty of options. Will likely be adding some plug in wall access points in strategic locations.

Do bear in mind you need the controller software running. If you are a enthusiast you likely have a server to throw it on. Otherwise a Raspberry PI works just fine. Oh yes privacy. You do not have to register with Ubiquiti or connect to them in any way aside from firmware downloads. This is unique at this point as all of the consumer mesh systems well ya know...

I got sick of single point routers where you are lucky to get it in the best location for your home. I ditched my Asus 68W router and decided I wanted a business grade network that will last me many many years. I have many wifi devices that include Nets cameras, nest Hello, and smart appliances. My desktop I game on is in my office that cannot get a wired connection because of how my house as built. so I picked up an Edge Router X SFP, an Edgeswitch lite 24 port and TWO of these AC HD Access Points. My outside camears were connecting SLOW at one bar of strength.. they never got over 200mbps. After installing two AP's in the house with great spacing I was able to connect my out door cams at 866mbps and 650mbps. My desktop is connecting at 1.17gbps with the asus pcie AC88 wifi adapter. Everything got faster.. and the unifi manager is great for seeing this. It was a lot of money but well worth the upgrade and the ability to leave this network alone for many years to come. These Access points are worth every penny and can connect as high as 1.3gbps. I am also setting up LAG on the AP's so they can take advantage of two gigabit network ports for extra bandwidth. I believe only the HD model's can do this.

I bought the Ubiquiti UAP-AC-M-US as a replacement for my ISP's router's WIFI as a stepping stone that I could build off of. I suspected I would have to have another one for our 2 story house but was pleasantly surprised that this single AP covered the whole house sufficiently for now. Was impressed and wanted more analytics so went ahead and also bought the Security Access Gateway product and put it in the DMZ of my ISPs router. Now the only thing my home router is doing is providing me an bridge between my Optical Network Terminal's (ONT) COAX output. At some point I hope to covert my ONT's output to straight Ethernet and eliminate the router altogether. For reference the Security Access Gateway is: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00LV8YZLK

Although this is technically rated for enterprise product, the price and functionality perfectly fits for home use. Specifically, comparing to my original Asus Ax11000 (WiFi 6 router) in AiMesh setup, UAP-AC-HD outperformed even on iPhone 11 Pro, which is WiFi 6 client. On my 1 Gbps download speed with 940 Mbps at router ethernet port, UAP-AC-HD internet speed test gave me average of 526 Mbps in contrast Ax11000 were 474 Mbps. I believe the difference here is efficient WiFi 5 Wave 2 vs. inefficient WiFi 6. Though the speed difference alone won't have convinced me to give up on my over $1000 WiFI 6 AiMesh setup, the stability of UniFi translated into superior daily experience. I have now fully converted my home network into UniFi system.

5 star points
- Stability: Rock-solid stable system.
- Speed: On my test, this outperformed WiFi 6 router in wired backhaul mesh node (access point).
- Flexibility and Feature: No mesh system offer as much flexibility and features. Some of the features may be even more than dedicated routers. For example, I can make SSID for smart connect (auto select 2.4 and 5 GHz bands) along with forced 5 GHz band.
- Scalability: Many options for different situations.
- Security: Free yet high level security system including intrusion detection and prevention systems.
- User Community: Highly active user community forum is better resource than anything else.

4 Star Features
- Setup: Due to the sheer amount of features UniFi Controller provides, initial setup is not just plug and play. Although I consider this is one of the best controller app for the balance of feature and usability, there are some situations I felt could have been better implemented.
- Value: In contrast to WiFi 5 mesh system, this is considered more expensive product. However, the functionality of UniFi product line is more compatible to dedicated router mesh/access point system like Asus AiMesh. Performance reaches to that of inefficient WiFi 6. So compared to these product, it can be seen as cheaper, better value.
- Range: Stable 2.4 GHz band made this look better ranged device than my original Ax11000 for my home but in reality, I think actual range of coverage is probably on par with others.

3 Star Features
- Underwhelming spec. These spec does not really affect my day to day use and in fact, UniFi system performance is superior in every regards when compared to my previous WiFi 6 system; however, spec are underwhelming, partly fault goes to current consumer network marketing of bigger numbers, better system trend. Although I am 100% certain it will eventually, but I still hope UniFi offered WiFi 6 access point right now. But I will wait until WiFi 6E!
- Customer Support. 3 stars for customer support is actually good rating from me. This is because they have free 24/7 online chat support via UniFi Web Interface. But just like many other support, tech support capability is limited.

Overall, UniFi is the first system check all marks with stable, speedy, scalable, flexible feature rich network ecosystem. Their misleading underwhelming specs with lack of WiFi 6 compatible Access Point may be an only disadvantage (in my head).

I brought this AP after reading through a lot of reviews. I also brought a USG (firewall) at the same time. The initial setup of the AP is a breeze after getting thru the setup of a controller software on my PC. However, after some change in configuration using the UI, the AP refused to be adopt. In fact, it became a brick.

Ping failed. Telnet failed. WebUI to default IP address failed. WebUI to the IP address showed on the controller software failed. Factory reset many times but could not return to initial factory setting.

I tried to get help from the Ubiquiti community. Found many threads talking about the same problem. In fact, one thread had hundreds of postings. The problem had been around for a number of years. But no Ubiquiti staff monitor the community. Problem was not fixed. Amazing!!!

The hardware seemed to be good quality. The controller software design is not all bad. However, leaving out a WebUI interface to the AP is a total negative. Too much work to setup a controller for a small installation.

I did not plan to return the device initially because it looked like a decent piece of hardware. But after spending a couple of days trying to reset the hardware using all kinds of method suggested and failed. I decided it is best to stay away are Ubiquiti UniFi line of hardware. Even if I get the AP to work again, I worry one day the hardware may turn into a brick and that will be troublesome.

Fantastic product, and the $2 replacement plan was a no-brainer. I replaced 4 APs with 2 of these - I had 1x Asus, 1x Netgear, and 2x HP MSM.

Biggest issue was switching SSIDs for whatever was nearer - now I have roaming.. I'll never go back.

I don't use with a cloud key - this takes a little config - I have a home domain and it went in no problem, but when I configured some for my brother's house we had to fuss the DNS some. They make a discovery tool that you can use and 22 into the device to set the address of the controller, else the APs don't find the controller when they try to pair. Extensive walkthroughs available on your and my friend Google.

The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is that the range has seemed a bit less than what I expected from previous UniFi access points.

After i bought and installed 5 Unifi AC in Wall i really saw a big difference. They work like a magic with unifi cloud key. fairly easy to install them yourself in the wall without getting help from a technician. Awesome speed. Reliable. They created a mesh wireless network.
