Gigabit Ethernet switches are pretty much a commodity - not much to distinguish them. TP-Link found a way, though. They claim to have designed the TL-SG1005D to use less power than other switches. My tests confirm this - a steady-state power draw of only 1 watt, compared to 4 watts for a Netgear Gigabit switch I use. For something that is typically powered 24/7, using 75% less power is nothing to sneeze at.Other than the low power draw, the TL-SG1005D is rather plain - I don't have the means to test the various features it claims to have, but I certainly didn't observe any problems or speed issues while in use. The dark gray rectangular box is fairly plain and the status LEDs on front are just bright enough to be useful, not so bright as to be annoying. A small wall-wart switching power supply is included with a longish cord. If I had any gripe at all it is that the RJ45 jacks are a bit too close together, making it difficult to connect and remove plugs that have anti-snag sleeves.Update: March 25, 2013I now also have the 8-port TL-SG1008D and it has all the good qualities of the 5-port model. Same low power - both switches cut power to jacks that aren't in use or are connected to devices not powered on. I measured its power draw at 1 watt, same as the 5-port model. with three ports in use.

This is a great standard switch (I hate when I see switches with all kind of features, that are not needed (like QoS on a switch; the router handles that). This switch was easy to setup (plug in one of the ports of the switch into your router). Than you are given 6 additional ports (I say 6, since you will lose a port on the router and you will lose a port on the switch). This switch claims to be eco friendly and use less electricity. I have no way to measure, but I can say that it is quiet (stays cool) and gives my devices full speed to other network resources or the Internet, so it seems to be true. The port is full Gigabit and I have not seen any decrease in my network items (vs connected to router). A switch is a great way to get additional ports on your router, and this is a nice option that is affordable to accomplish this.In the end this is a nice standard switch. It gets the job done and works great (no unneeded or over complicating features). It has an eco friendly type system that keeps the switch from using more power than needed. It is a great standard switch and is perfect for most needs of additional ports.

Writing a review of a network switch is like writing a review of plumbing. If it works, there isn't much to say. And that's the case here. For my purposes, I dropped in the TP-Link TL-SG1008D between a Linksys Network router and several streaming media devices in my home theater system: A Sony PS3, DISH DVR, Panasonic Blu-ray 3D Player, Roku streaming media box, SONOS PlayBar, Pioneer receiver and my Sungevity solar electricity meter. I wanted to provide a hard-wired network connection to these devices (instead of WiFi) for better reliability and freedom from wireless interference. Testing each of the devices after connecting them to the switch proved successful and so far I have not seen any glitches or buffering in the streaming of audio and video over these devices. The switch uses "green technology" which means it shuts down ports which are not in use, and that can save a bit of power usage, saving you money on your electric bill compared to a switch without this feature. So in my experience, considering the low price, lack of any set-up required as well as network transparency, I give this switch 5 stars.

This is truly a plug and play product. I plugged it in to the power, plugged in my ports and it immediately started working. Nothing to configure, nothing to install and no reboots of the computer. My 4-port router was maxed out, so this makes a great extender. This is not a router in the sense that you can't connect the internet cable from your modem directly to it. You still need a router, but all you need to do is use one of the ports from your router and via Ethernet cable, plug it in to any one of the ports on this box and then you can run 7 more devices. With a 4-port router, this gives you a total of 10 devices you can plug in (3 in your router and 7 in this. You lose one port on each for the cable to connect the two devices.)Totally quiet box with display lights for power on and each of the 8 ports. As far as speed, you are bound somewhat by how fast your router is. I didn't see any speed increases using the ports on this vs. the ports on my router, but my router is not the latest, greatest or fastest.I would not hesitate to buy one of these. You won't be disappointed. Good product.

If you're looking for a simple, small yet effective Gigabit switch, look no further, this one fits the bill. It doesn't run hot, it's plug and play and works great right out of the box. Simply connect it to your router's LAN port and you've just added another 5 ports to your network. I tested transfer speeds between my PC and laptop, a Dell tower and an Alienware laptop, and I was able to move 16.9 GB of music from the PC to the laptop in 4 minutes and 20 seconds, which is about 3.93 GB per minute, pretty impressive. The TP-Link TL-SG1005D looks good, takes up almost no space at all, and it performs as advertised, so I couldn't be happier. For those unfamiliar with this brand, I must admit I was skeptical at first since I'd never heard of it until recently, but now that I own a couple of their wi-fi routers and a wi-fi USB adapter, I have no complaints and I recommend their products to everyone I know. In fact a friend of mine recently bought one of these and he's quite happy with its performance as well. You won't regret getting this switch.

I received a TP-Link 5-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch from the Vine Program for review. Here's my take on it.The TL-SG1005D is an easy way to move up to the Gigabit Ethernet while providing energy savings (advertised up to 70% power consumption savings--this has yet to be proven, however, the fanless box stays cool which usually means energy savings.) It should be noted that speeds upwards of 100Mbps will only be obtained if your devices accommodate fast Ethernet of 1000Mbps, which mine don't, so speeds of 100Mbps are standard for me.I'm using it with a two-computer home network consisting of a Dell desktop and an HP laptop, along with several printers, a cable box and my D-Link router and required more ports than are on my router. The TL-SG1005D was an economical way to hook up all my equipment and still leaves a couple of ports open for more devices. The plug and play feature made setup a breeze. I'm very satisfied with the switch, especially knowing it will provide store and forward switching. No network drop-offs when playing Internet-only programs and movies.

I've tried a couple of TP-Link devices recently and been impressed so far. I haven't had any of them long enough to speak to long term reliability, so if anything starts to break down the road, I'll revisit my reviews to pass that information along. For a switch, I'm really only looking to turn my last router port into several router ports, and I think that's the normal need. I have three computers plugged into my router, and need extra for the laser printer, the satellite box, the blu ray player, and the TV ... life was much more simple before every device wanted to be online! LOLTherefore I'm not really putting this device through any high volume paces. I'm only using it for the convenience of having these other devices hit the network on the rare occasions when I need them to. In that respect, this switch has been great. If you have a higher performance need, you might want to check other reviews by the more technical wonks.Highly recommended.

This Desktop Switch is an inexpensive, non-complicated way to combine multiple cable ports in a small, energy efficient Plug and Play box. With eight (8) ports, you can use this for a home entertainment center or for your computer system. I've hooked mine up to my PC system and find that it makes sending large files from my laptop to my desktop (and vice-versa) fast and reliable. If both your Ethernet chips in both computers are gigabit (1,000Mbps), they will send at those gigabit speeds, but if one or both have 100 Mbps chips then they will send at that speed. But it is still faster than if both are 100Mbps. In essence, it's just faster and organized conveniently.Think of it as a `power strip' for your network cabling. It turns one feed into many and `unmanaged' means it's ultra-simple. The (8) LED's and the Power light let you know what's working. There is no configuration, settings or software. TP-Link is reliable, just as it states.

Usually the hardest part of setting up a home network is the router, as well as the firewall, but the internal switch set up is or rather should be set up for easy put up and pull down. With a Cisco, Linksys, and on a larger system a Paloalta style setup ( usually quite large ), the setup and pull down time is not quick since it is time consuming to set up unless you have it scripted. But suffice to say, so long as you have a line to the TP-LINK unit, you can switch the setup from 3-10 units ( Computers ) or just 2 ( a minimum in the switch setup) , and make the changes for any internal node setup easily.I tried setup through a Linksys and Cisco router , and the changes needed for each unit were successfully governed by the router configuration, even when going through the TP-LINK Switch and you can daisy chain multiple units of TP-LINK or other switchs through the 5 Port Gigabit and it work well. A very cost effective unit.

Gone are the days when Gigabit broke the bank, ran hot, and were a pain to install. Just plug in the power, plug in your network cables, and go. It's that easy. Any port can connect to another hub, switch, or modem. The bottom has slots for wall mounting to screws (handy in A/V enclosures). It's energy smart - switches off unused ports, and uses the appropriate amount of power based on cable length. Every watt I can save in my A/V setup is important - it's on one breaker, and I'm close to the limit. Because it runs so cool, the case can be plastic - this saves on cost.I prefer 8 ports to 5 - remember, you lose one port to connect this to your network, so in reality you're adding four ports. After you have enough equipment (Bluray, smart TV, AV amp, laptop, satellite, etc.) you'll often have to add another 5 port hub. Now you have 10 ports total, but only 8 that can be used. If you plan on adding a lot of gadgets, you may want the 8 port to start with.Either way, I'm a fan of the TP-Link line of switches. Affordable, easy setup, and green.

Wait! How can we get excited about a switch? It works - it works fast. It has attractive lights that brighten with a connection. That pretty much sums it up.Seriously, this TP Link product is a basic gigabit switch. It allows you tap that speed coming in on your cable or T1 line and spread the joy out to four ethernet ports. I have a gigabyte modem with my cable service, so it connected just fine and provided ultra fast ethernet connections to a part of my house where I had only one ethernet cable connection. Any day that I can use a wired connection rather than a wireless connection is a good day.I cannot say that this switch is faster or more energy efficient than a Netgear switch I have in another part of the house - it would take sophisticated electrical testing to prove those factors. But the TP Link works great right out of the box. This is especially good because the documentation that comes with it is pretty spartan - assuming you know what a switch is and how to connect it.

We haven't completely tested this product yet by fully implementing all the possible configurations, such as with our home theater set-up. We thought this would be a nice feature for when we do add to our current system, so we installed it as soon as we got it. So far, so good. It's a no-brainer to add to your system. Very simple. It doesn't take up much room, and it doesn't overheat. We're hoping the energy savings are obvious, but it's too soon to tell.I'd prefer an LED feature to let me know this is actually functioning, but I assume it is because, hey, everything works the way it's supposed to!Speed wasn't really an issue for us, and right now there's no discernible difference. That may be due to the fact that we were experiencing fast responses, so for us it's incrementally better but going to this from a slow system would be the real test. This is an appropriate switch for home use or a small office.

Length:: 6:52 MinsIt is a network switch to turn 1 port into 5 ports (adds 4), it works, its gigabit, and it uses 1/3 the power of older switches & hubs (see video power meter demo at 3:46 mark). It is simple and hassle free. Just plug anything into any port and it just works. Its gigabit and backward compatible, but the LEDs only signal on/off, not rated speed of each (if that matters to you). It works perfectly for me. I just swapped out my old switch in a few seconds. Most notably, it measurably uses less power overall than those of 10 years ago, and is also smart about which ports are in use. As shown in the video, compared to my old switch I improved power usage from 4.1W 0.04A 0.98/mo to 1.2W 0.02A 0.24/mo with 3 ports used. Turning off one device immediately improved slightly on both the old (3.9W 0.04A) and new (1.1W 0.01A) switches. It is also mountable 3 ways, is light, and has a relatively small & light AC adapter. I have no complaints.

I have a complicated home network and wondered if switching to a Gigabit device in place of the one I was using (MONSTER POWER DL ES-5 DIGITAL LIFETM ETHERNET CENTRAL 5-PORT ETHERNET EXPANDER (DL ES-5) -) would improve service. It did.Setup of the TP-Link switch was a snap. Plug it in and go. No problems at all.To my surprise, I noticed an immediate improvement in the speed for simple items, such as displaying web pages. I didn't expect this as the speed upstream is the limiting factor. However, in this case improving "the last leg" turned out to be significant. This product is ideal for the common problem of having more devices than ports. I small office could benefit from replacing slower switches by this, the latest technology. The speedup is particularly noticeable for devices connected to the same switch, obviously. To get the maximum benefit, you would need to deploy Gigabit devices everywhere.

My office just changed to Fios. After Verizon completed the switchover I was having network issues between the 3 computers in my office. They had piggy-backed the old network to the new one so we wouldn't have to connect directly to the new network. This created a problem with one of the computers. The old network had a Linksys hub connected. In trouble-shooting I found the hub wasn't working so got this switch to replace it. I plugged it in, made all the connections and no problems since. Speed to connect to the internet was greatly increased on all the computers (and we are on all 3 at the same time a lot of the time). This was true of the 2 computers connected prior to the switch being added. There isn't any noticeable heat coming from the unit. This switch saved me a lot of headache, glad I got it. I highly recommend it.

A lot of coworkers have resorted to funding their own IT gadgets and have purchased their own equipment. So I bring in my GIGABIT switch and wow, it works swimmingly! Now it's not very stylish, in fact it looks pretty dated, but a 10x increase in speed over a 100mb connection, that's just awesome. I stuff it under my desk anyways and don't miss the styling, but I'm just glad it works and I can get more stuff done, and take on more work, only to leave work at the same time....wait a minute.... I know, I'll just take longer breaks now. ;--)

If you have uVerse, which comes with a 3800HGV 4-port router, and you run out of ports, this switch can easily remedy the problem. Just plug it in to any of the ports on the back of the uVerse router, and then plug devices into the back of this switch, and off you go. Problem solved.I like how the ports are any-to-any, meaning you can choose any one of the 8 ports to attach to another router, and any of the ports to attach to devices. There are no dedicated uplink ports. I have a Cisco MicroCell, an Ooma Telo, an ObiTalk, a laptop with docking station, a desktop computer, and a network printer all attached to the uVerse router...some directly, and some via this switch. Everything runs perfectly. This is a great low cost solution to pretty much any home networking need, as far as I can tell.

The TP-Link TL-SG1008D 8-Port Unmanaged Gigabit Desktop Switch is a lightweight, consumer grade switch. I am currently using it in connection with my Blu-ray player, set-top player, Wii, and other entertainment devices. The switch has a nice transfer rate, not boggy or too slow. The passive cooling is relatively quiet, but I cannot say how effective it is as it is in an air conditioned house. It may be louder in a less climate controlled environment. The lights on the unit are adequate, and the connections are nice and tight, no sloppy. I believe the TP-Link TL-SG1008D 8-Port Unmanaged Gigabit Desktop Switch is on par with similar Netgear or Dlink devices, and may even be a slightly better value than the Dlink.A decent, inexpensive, home use switch.

Switches aren't complicated things: you plug in the power, the ethernet cables, and you're connected. This one does the job, the transfer rate is fast, and there are no problems. I tested with my computer, doing some file transfers and such, and then with several of my video devices (tv, bd player, etc.) -- everything works fine, no glitches, expected throughput.I have several switches, some 5-port and some 8-port. (16-port ones tend to expensive, buying two 8 port switches is usually cheaper, although of course you get 14 usable ports rather than 15). This one is just as good as the others, at a lower price point. Can't complain.(If you don't know how to do home networking, I suggest that you do a bit of reading about routers, switches, and modems before buying networking equipment like this one. It'll save you a lot of trouble & some money.)

It's easy to run out of Ethernet ports at home or at work. Your home router probably only has one or four Ethernet ports. And at work, your IT department has probably only activated one or two Ethernet ports at your desk. For me it's like pulling teeth to get IT to activate another port at my desk. An inexpensive switch like this one is a quick and simple way to add four more ports to my network. (Yes, it's a 5 port switch, but you have to use one of them for the line in, so you really only get 4 accessible ports to use for other connections.)There's nothing to install or configure. Just run a patch cable from a live Ethernet port and connect it to this switch and plug the switch's power into the wall. You quickly get 10Mb/100Mb/1Gb connectivity, depending on your network configuration. It's quick and simple and works great.

I wanted to hard-wire the network for my home theater setup. Most notably, an Xbox 360 (100Mbit), a PS3 (1000Mbit), an AppleTV 3rd gen (100Mbit), and the television itself (LN52B630, unsure about speed). Previous, I had the Xbox plugged in directly to my Airport Extreme over CAT5e, and used the wireless on the PS3/AppleTV. However, I wanted to hard-wire the AppleTV for airplay mirroring to speed things up a bit. And if I was going to split the one gigabit connection into more than one, I figure I might as well wire up everything, and a 5 port gigabit switch was exactly what I needed.Looking around Amazon, this guy had really top notch reviews. Online research showed NewEgg reviewers giving this little guy glowing reviews, with a few nags here and there. There are a few neat hacks people have done to make this switch even more useful, but I won't get into those. I figured for $20, this little guy should do the trick. Plus, Amazon has a great return policy for faulty products, so why not give it a try. I've been burned by high quality names dying out on me for no good reason, so I figured I'd give this little guy a go.So far, fantastic! I wasn't able to do a very good test to max out the line speed, but the speed did not change between no switch and the switch over the same wire. I checked all ports and they all worked at 1000BaseT just fine, and latency was consistent across all ports. Also, I confirmed that mixed modes caused no issues, as noted by my above devices. Of the 5 ports, 2 are gigabit (uplink to the Airport Extreme and the PS3), and the AppleTV/Xbox are 100Mbit - the TV is most likely 10BaseT, but it may be 100BaseT. Everything is working together flawlessly, though since it's for a home theater setup, it's not being taxed heavily. If it dies on me or if things end up not working out, I will be sure to come back and update this review. But I figured I'd toss my two cents for other people running into my situation.

The TL-SG1008D is an unmanaged 8-port Gigabit switch, which like any other unmanaged switch works straight out of the box. Power it on, plug in your Ethernet cables and watch the LEDs as traffic goes through it. The ports are auto-sensing and support auto-MDI/MDIX.This switch adopts Green Ethernet technology, which supports power saving features. It'll automatically power down ports that aren't being used (no link or no connection because the device it's connected to is shut down).Although not pertaining to the functionality of the switch itself, the power supply is angled sideways to limit power strip space usage to just one outlet.

Note that if all your machines are only 10/100 then won't see any improvement at all! On the other hand, this switch is not a lot more than 10/100 switches so it's better to be "Future-Proof" since your next computer will likely have Gigabit networking.I was using a Linksys 10/100 switch which is less than half the physical size, so I was expecting something smaller. I suspect they use the same chassis for their 8 channel switch - can't complain since their tooling save may explain the very reasonable price for this gigabit switch.

This is perfect for connecting my AirPort Express (which has only one output) to my Apple TV, PVR, Logitech TV Cam, and other media-center equipment. Since I can use only one connection at a time, this has everything wired when I want it. So my little stack (AirPort Express and Apple TV atop this switch) takes up very little space and, except for all the LED lights, is unobtrusive. This unit is fairly specialized and not many will need it, but I'm sure it has more uses than mine. It is just what I was looking for, but didn't know it existed.

I have to start with a chuckle as advertising the device based on its low power consumption is a joke. You have 4 mid level people working with a fully loaded cost of about $400/hour ( 250% - 350% of their salaries) and a device that probably consumes $.005 - $.02 of power per day. Of course if it fails, all the energy used by the employees commuting, running the coffee maker, running the office building etc is wasted. The important issueseasy to installfastreliableI do not have enough experience to pass judgement on reliability but it's off to a great start .

I was totally prepared to really like this little switch. It takes less than 5 minutes to set-up and seemed to actually speed things up. Unfortunately, 2 out of the 5 devices refused to work including Vonage...Vonage tends to be quirky so at fist I didn't give it much thought as that happens all the time. However, it also refused to run some of our Logitech gear which almost never has a problem. Tried it with the security...nothing. Tried it with the Revue...nothing. So, no vonage, no security, no revue...had to disconnect this and plug all back into the Netgear box which ran everything fine.

I ran out of ports on my current wireless router and wanted a small and inexpensive wired switch to in order to add some more wired ports to my network. So far this switch has exceeded expectations for a small $20 device. The speeds have been consistent so far (thought I have not tested it up to gigabit speeds), and it is more than capable to streaming HD content to my tv (via XBMC and a Raspberry Pi).I would highly recommended this as an option to add more wired ports to your network, as long as you already have a more sophisticated router as a backbone.

There are devices that I really need to have them wired to the router instead of wifi. This network switch is great for sharing one ethenet cable going to the router. The switch operates at gigabit speeds. Have this in my family room to connect the Squeezebox (internet radio/music), PS3, HD DVD player, and A/V receiver. There is no need to access the control panel in the browser. You simply plug your devices in and everything works--true plug-n-play.

I prefer wired ethernet connections wherever I can have them throughout the house. This switch has noticeably sped things up on my network. Transferring large files between devices and playing video from my NAS is faster. And at the time of this review, you can't beat the price. I also love that this switch is energy efficient and it shuts down power to ports that are not being used. I have enough power hungry devices! Setup was literally plug and play. This is a great way to future-proof your network at a great price.

My home network has a bunch of connected devices. I have a Synology NAS station, three printers, my Mac Pro. When I got my third printer, my router didn't have enough ports, so I needed a switch. The TP-Link TL-SG1005D 5-Port Unmanaged Gigabit Desktop Switch works great. Basically it is a plug and play device. I just plugged everything in, "turned it on" and it worked. The only complaint I have, voiced by others, is I wish I could tell when I'm getting gigabit speeds from the device, but in most cases, it is really not that important.

Having run my computers on a wireless network for so long I had forgotten the speed I was missing until connected this hardwired network. This desktop switch is very easy too set up and works so well. It is nice too see a high quality product that performs as advertised for a decent price. This 5-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch also does not heat up. I do not have a meter but from the spec and the lack of heat generation from the switch I believe in its advertised function of energy saving. If you are looking for a desktop switch I would recommend this.

This TP-Link provides five 10/100/1000Mbps ports. Truly Plug & Play, this unmanaged switch allows the transfer of large files instantly with all the reliability IEEE 802.3x provides. When the computer or network equipment is turned off, this product will power down by up to 75% to save power. This switch has no cooling fan that makes its operation quiet. This allowed me to expand my wired network at a fair price without any hassles. It works perfectly and meets all of my demanding expectations.

I can't say much about this little switch except that it does it's job and it's an excellent value. If you're in the market for a switch there's no reason to pass this one up. If you've got a mixed network of 100 Mbps (Fast Ethernet) and 1000 Mbps (Gigabit) equipped machines, this will not only provide your network with switching and throughput your Gigabit machines can take advantage of, it will also improve the performance of your Fast Ethernet devices by providing store-and-forward switching. It has improved throughput on my mixed-mode network considerably even though I only have one device with a Gigabit network card. Streaming videos from my desktop Plex server to my Roku and from iTunes to my AppleTV is now totally seamless, without buffering or either device dropping off the network.I should note that my Roku and AppleTV were previously connected by 150Mbps wifi, and my new setup is connected as such..Desktop (Plex media server/iTunes) > TP-Link Gigabit Switch > DSL gateway/router > Cisco 10/100 Switch > Streaming boxes(Roku and AppleTV)

Good basic 5 port gigabit switch. Inexpensive, compact, easy set up and energy efficient. However, it is lacking a very important feature for me. Not included in this design are LED's that tell you whether you are connected at 10/100 or 10/100/1000.I don't want to be running speed tests or checking software settings TO SEE IF I am running fast Ethernet or gigabit. All my other switches I have used have these diagnostic indicators and for about the same price. For that reason, I am awarding 3 stars.

I have been using this switch for a couple of weeks. Luckily it is plug and play because the instructions are for a different model 8 port switch. The speed is good for the PCs I have hooked up to this switch. I did have a problem with my wife's MAC, it does not work on this switch. I tried different ports and then I even ran a different cable, still did not work. So I put my wife's MAC back on the main router and it works fine. Kinda confusing. It is definitely faster than the 10/100 switch we were using.

This unit is bigger than any switch I've had before, but it needs to be because it holds more input/outputs than any of the others. Most switches are for 4 products. If you have 2 computers, 3 printers and a Direct TV modem, you've already exceeded that capabililty. Up to now I've been using 2 switches, with one pulling off the other. This new TP Link makes it much easier. So I can surely recommend it.

As network gear goes this is a great little device. You plug it in and go. No fuss no muss. It auto detected my cable from my dsl router, so when I plugged my nas to it along with with my PC, it was getting internet, and gigabit speed for NAS to PC, all without needing to tweak any settings. Could not be happier with this product. It does exactly what I was hoping it would do when I requested it.

Theres not much to say about these desktop switches -- it either works to deliver its advertised speed, and remains up, or it doesn't. This switch does the job. I swapped out an old Linksys desktop switch at my office with this one, and it worked flawlessly. TP-Link may not be as well known as its competition, but they've been delivering affordable network solutions for years. Would certainly recommend!

Lots of complaints about the noisy fan. I have the 16-port version that is a few years old, and I can confirm this. But the latest information on the TP-Link web site lists this model as fanless for hardware version 7.0. Is hardware version 7.0 what is shipping from this seller now? Can the seller confirm that what he is selling is the latest or at least the fanless model? Other than that, the 16-port TP-Link has served me well for years. I'd like to replace it with the fanless 24-port model (if it exists). I don't see any other avenue to ask this very important question before I make my purchase. Please advise. Thanks.

This item worked great until it fried after only a week or so for no known reason. I am guessing it was a fluke, but worth mentioning. I really noticed a difference in the wireless speed before and even more so when I had to switch back to my older slower switch. It is very possible that someone in my house did something wrong to fry it so not sure I want to blame the quality of this product.

I've moved most of my home theater equipment to hardwired ethernet connections rather than wifi, to reduce buffering delays. I've got this switch connecting my blu-ray player, Xbox 360, and a home theater pc to my network. I've not noticed any drop in speed with the switch in place, it's quiet, and it runs cool. What more can you ask for in a switch?

Very hard to write a long review for this; once upon a time, if you had one ethernet port and a bunch of devices you wanted to connect to the network, you'd buy a hub. For light traffic that was fine, but a even a rudimentary switch like this one sends packets only where they're intended to go, and performance is going to be better. This device is about as low-end as they come, but it works and the pricing is astonishing. $18? How is that even possible?

The speeds are quite good and haven't noticed any slowdowns or bottlenecks. As with most switches, longevity is a plus and I trust the TP-Link brand to last a good while. Highly recommended.
