So, for the silicone insert I used olive oil. I LIGHTLY coated it to allow it to slide in and out. If you don't, it will be stuck!
HAVE Patience! When heating up the tubes, take your time. I also used work gloves so I wasn't burning my hands doing it. Expect to fail a few times till you get it right. Practice makes perfect! I have overheated tubes and under heated tubes. When your bending, go slow. Then hold the position while the tube cools before releasing it.
That's just a few things I learned doing this. Watch youtube videos. More than one because some people have different methods. personally I turn the tube when heating it up evenly before I bend it so you don't get a micro fracture. Enjoy!
Oh, and when done, run without the PC being on for an hour or two to make sure you don't have any leakage! Cover the inside with paper towels.
I had no issues with cutting PETG like other people had. I did notice that you could accidentally make a mistake and not seat the tubing in the cutter correctly. Must be what people had issues with. Also the 90 degree mandrel is not 90 degrees. Had to adjust the angle by putting a little pressure on the angle thanks to petg's flexibility.
The kit comes with what you need to make perfect bends and the pipe cutter is high quality. The templates are weighty and have a solid feel. You could always jig up your angles and bends with wood, but getting this kit is just easier. It does seem a bit expensive, but a burr tool will run you $20 - $30, the pipe cutter $15 - $40, and I have no idea about the templates but when all is said and done there is a lot that comes in the box, it is competively pricedm but a bit above what I'd consider "value."
These should last pretty much forever - that makes me happy, and well worth the investment in decent tools for building custom PC with liquid cooling.
I have $2000 of cheaply-made, defective crap from them sitting in boxes ($600+ of fittings), on shelves, (various Fans and hot swap enclosures), or serving as end tables in my workroom (Core WP200 Case) .
I buy from them thinking maybe...maybe this time I'll get something that doesn't suck. I hit the lottery with this item. It works great for what it's intended to do.
I've noticed many other reviews stating they had pieces missing from their kit as well. I'm not sure where this product is coming from or if it has been tampered with, but someone in quality control needs to step up their game.
Additionally, this kit is very overpriced. I believe you can order individual bending tools and a silicon insert for far cheaper than the price of this kit. I recommend using a bending guide for first time hard line water cooling, but perhaps seek out some other options if you're dollar conscious.
Don’t delay; you’ll be glad you did it.
Thermaltake please consider adding mounting screws, if only just 2!
