The comfort on this mouse is great. It's light, and easy to hold the way I find comfortable. The buttons are stiff, almost too stiff at times, but overall easy to press with a bit of added force. Not quite as quick to operate in something like an FPS game, but they are very deliberate which was good to prevent accidental presses.
From a physical standpoint, this mouse is perfect. But these mice are only as good as their software, and it's sad to say, SteelSeries' GG software leaves a lot to be desired.
From research the mouse only has a single stripped down on board profile that it saves to. So some things won't work without the software installed on the computer.
The basics are there. Rebinding of keys to any most any key is there. Adjustable lighting for your devices. It can be finicky to setup on a per game basic. But it does work. If you don't need anything complex, then it should fit your needs. The biggest failing of the mouse and software is macros.
A mouse with this many button is practically screaming to use macros. The problem is you can only record macros, and the only editing you can do is in the timing of the key presses that the software detects.
While this is first and foremost a gaming mouse. That many buttons can simplify a lot of things or make actions like entering repeated text easier. The big ones for me are area screen shots (win+shift+s) and text entering for boiler plate work. For Screenshots the software would record the first two inputs, but only the 's' upstroke. But instead of allowing me to insert a keystroke, I can only record it again. There is no way to enter text. Technically I could create a long macro of the text. But I wouldn't be saving any time with that. And if I create a typo, I have to start over again from the beginning.
Those two issues were the deal breakers for me.
TL;DR: Amazingly comfortable mouse with plenty of buttons to play with. But the software supporting that is lacking in many important ways that competitors beat it by. If the software improves, I'll definitely pick this back up. But for now, I'm returning the mouse because it makes it hard to use in the way I want.
Performance is great, build is very comfy and is a great shape, feels ergonomic, and seems to be the perfect weight. Fast response time and decent dpi configurability. All-in-all, probably the best mouse I’ve yet used, but still has drawbacks.
The misgivings are that there are far too many side buttons, each of which are clustered together, making them entirely impractical to use. There’s no reason there should be that many extra buttons, especially in that configuration. Secondly, given the skeletonized construction, the pace at which wear-and-tear occurs is significantly heightened, as I believe the reason for the mouse’s failure has been—in both instances—due to exposure to sweat, dead skin, grime, and other miscellaneous contaminants bound to come into contact with the internals of the mouse. Everything in the mouse is basically exposed, allowing any and all things to get in there, over time. Thirdly, although clicks are typically solid, I’ve noticed that there has also been gradual wear affecting the LMB, MMB, and RMB, causing occasional inaccuracies with effective clicking and scrolling.
If you are very clean, do not shed skin, and don’t get sweaty palms (or you don’t play Tarkov), you would likely get more out of this mouse.
In my opinion, Steelseries products are the best in the pc peripherals market, but this mouse doesn’t fit as a flagship, nor is it the best they can offer.
In-a-nutshell:
Good Quality for $150 dollars✅
Good Performance for $150 dollars✅
Good Durability for $150 dollars❌
Apropos of the above, you will see that many others have commented that the ergonomics of this mouse are poor, to say the least. This is a tragic understatement of the embarrassing design of this mouse.
I'm most comfortable between a fingertip or claw grip, I often find I swap between the two. However, I am plenty comfortable with a traditional palm grip, especially for longer and larger mice. I **cannot** find a comfortable grip with this mouse. Holding it in a claw or fingertip grip means I'm either holding it short of the mouse buttons, or I must completely curl my thumb in a very dramatic claw to actuate the side buttons. In either pose, the "2" button is nearly impossible to detect, as it abnormally small compared to every button near it. Trying to hit just the "2" button and no other button is a nightmare, and considering that many games have "sour" buttons, wherein hitting the wrong button will cause a delay in the intended action, this is simply unacceptable. Exacerbating all these issues, these buttons are among the squishiest and least tactile of any mouse buttons I've ever used. Redragon slop has better feedback than these, and they cost 1/3rd the price.
I tried to hold the mouse on a canted angle, to see if I could work around this with a bit of adjustment. Never you mind that this is already a bad idea (see movement angles) but when I did so I quickly found that the left and right click buttons were simply too short to accommodate a sort of mid-body grip that canted angle required.
In my experience, there is no way for me to comfortably actuate all 12 side buttons and keep a comfortable grip on the mouse. If the "1" "2" and "3" buttons were replaced by the "4" "5" and "6" buttons (and another row were added at the back to make up for the loss) maybe I could recommend this mouse.
tl;dr, it is an awkward and comically incompetent design. I've never bought anything SteelSeries before and I highly doubt I'll ever buy anything from them again.
EDIT: It's been just about 2 weeks since I started using this mouse and it no longer stays paired with the provided 2.4ghz dongle. Pairing with BT works fine, but has some noticable latency. That could just be my BT card, but the lack of connectivity with the dongle is unacceptable after only 14 days of use. Even more damning, I have been busy with work, so I've only spent about 20 or so hours with the mouse.
Another issue I've noticed is that the battery level is incredibly unreliable. It will flash red for low battery after about 15 minutes of use, but it seems to still have a "normal" battery life. Time will tell if that's another canary in this coal mine.
ymmv, but I'm going to steer everyone away from these mice in the future. Razer mice might die within a year or two but at least they'll make it longer than 2 weeks and can actually report their battery level with some accuracy. The only positive I can give this is that their software is less blighted than Synapse, but you cannot save or switch profiles to the mouse.
I really wanted to like this mouse. I love my other SteelSeries gear, so thought it was time to complete the set with a mouse. I grabbed the Aerox 9 as my first “premium” (aka expensive) mouse, so my expectations were high.
The mouse feels fantastic in my hand, I use palm grip and my thumb fell perfectly on the side buttons. I’ve never used a MOBA mouse but got the hang of it really quickly.
Super lightweight for what it was. 12 side buttons plus a battery at only like 90 grams? Impressive.
That’s where the main issue lies. They advertise 150 hours of battery life (though I’ve also seen them advertise 180 hours in some places…) The battery maybe lasted me 3 days if I was lucky, and this was with the “high efficiency mode” enabled in the software. Quite disappointing.
After about 1 week, the right click also started getting stiff, to the point where it was noticeably harder to click than the left click. Seems I’m not the only one who has noticed some QA issues.
Pros:
-Lightweight wireless mouse with lots of buttons.
-Great hand feel (for larger hand that uses palm grip)
-smoothest PTFE feet I’ve ever seen (soft mousepad)
Cons:
-Battery life. Barely gets 72 hours with efficiency mode
-QA issue with right click (stiff/stuck button)
Overall a good mouse, I would have kept it if it wasn’t for the right click issue. But I ended up returning this product. Unfortunately, I can’t uninstall Logitech G Hub just yet :)
1) Quality: 4/10 I'm not sure if I got unlucky or if this mouse as a quality issue, but after only 6 months of daily usage, the side buttons (notably the 3 and 6) are beginning to fail. Every 3rd press or so doesn't register, which for a $100+ mouse is unacceptable.
2) Feel: 4/10 Maybe this is my own personal issue, but this mouse is just plain weird to hold. It doesn't feel ergonomic at all. I have to sort of hold it closer to the front edge, and angle the mouse into my palm in order to comfortably use the 12 side buttons. While I did get used to it, and I wouldn't say it's *uncomfortable*, it is certainly a very odd design compared to every other MMO mouse I have used (the G600 being the gold standard, rest its soul)
3) Usability: 7/10 Functionally, looking past my button failing quality issue, it works just fine. I like the option of having 2 different wireless modes, as well as a good braided cable. Software it pairs with runs well, and is easy to use. It has a good "plug and play" tuning as well. Checks all boxes without doing anything special.
Overall, with the buttons failing and strange hand feel, it's a 2/5 for me. Hits below its weight class, and for the price they're asking you could get a much better value for your money.
The cons
It's HEAVY… I'm coming from the G502, and it still felt 2x heavier.
The side buttons are harder to press than a controller button
The pros
It's smooth, I use a glass mousepad and it feels great on it… Whatever material they use, it's really nice
Great tracking, very responsive
Also has a good feeling shell was a bit worried about the holes but feels good
Haven't tested the lights but it's definitely bright
Hope my personal opinion helps you I'll be requesting a refund and trying another SS mouse
1. **Impressive Performance**: When it comes to performance, the Aerox 9 doesn't disappoint. Its wireless connection is rock-solid, with minimal latency and no noticeable dropouts during gaming sessions. The TrueMove Air sensor offers precise tracking and responsive cursor movement, providing a smooth and accurate gaming experience. Additionally, the lightweight design and ambidextrous shape make it comfortable to use for extended periods, catering to a wide range of grip styles.
2. **Premium Build Quality**: The Aerox 9 boasts a premium build quality that exudes durability and sophistication. The sleek, transparent design not only looks stylish but also allows for customizable RGB lighting effects, adding a touch of flair to your gaming setup. The mouse feels solid in the hand, with no flex or creaking, and the buttons offer satisfying tactile feedback. It's clear that SteelSeries has put a lot of thought and attention to detail into the construction of this mouse.
3. **Battery Life and Software Issues**: Despite its impressive performance and build quality, the Aerox 9 falls short in a couple of key areas. Firstly, the battery life is somewhat underwhelming, especially considering that it's marketed as a wireless gaming mouse. With moderate usage, I found myself having to recharge the mouse every couple of days, which can be inconvenient for gamers who prefer longer gaming sessions. Additionally, the SteelSeries Engine software, while functional, can be buggy and unintuitive at times, making customization and configuration more of a hassle than it should be.
While the SteelSeries Aerox 9 Wireless Mouse has its strengths, including impressive performance and premium build quality, it's held back by its underwhelming battery life and software issues. If you can overlook these shortcomings, it's a solid choice for gamers looking for a reliable wireless mouse with responsive tracking and a stylish design. However, if battery life and software functionality are top priorities for you, you may want to explore other options on the market.
I have all the thumb keys mapped to the NUM PAD. Makes things a bit easier. The macro functions are easily added.
RGB is quite useless, good to tell you when your battery is low? But otherwise kinda useless as there's no RGB in the skeletonized section.
I have somewhat smaller hands, reaching the forward 6 buttons is a chore and requires me to have my hand further up. But that's not my comfortable mouse posture, which is more a claw grip. Palm gripping your mouse is weird.
This is also one of the very few Steelseries mice that have a tilting scroll wheel, I was excited to have that back after having the Rival 5 for a year. However, it's extremely stiff, enough that you more than likely will click the scroll wheel instead of tilt it. So that's a bummer.
DPI Settings were a big PITA to setup for the first few days... I'll post a pic of my settings to help you adjust easier... I also loathed that I had to make a macro for browser Back and Forward shortcuts, however the benefit was the ability to put those exactly where it was comfortable for me. Shortcuts are as follows for that:
Open Macro Editor
Recording for Browser Back: ALT + Left Arrow
Recording for Browser Forward: ALT + Right Arrow
Click setting on each one (bottom left) as No Delay.
It will not work in Explorer half the time, so browsing through files will require adjustment.
My final con... Profiles. Notice how I said I have all 12 thumb keys assigned to the NUM PAD and then I had mapped forward and back keys for browsing the web... Yep. Profiles. You'll have to swap profiles for gaming and productivity. Makes me wonder if I can set a macro on the Apex Pro to switch easily... I'll update this if I ever decide to test that out.
Overall, I recommend this mouse if you want a MOBA mouse and want to keep all your gear Steelseries.
Unfortunately, the Aerox 9 has one major flaw that I suspect will be a deal breaker for a lot of people, myself included: the size. This mouse was designed for large hands, and the majority of people will struggle to find a comfortable grip. For example, my hands are 19x10 cm (medium size), and I use a claw grip. My thumb doesn't reach the first row of buttons (1/2/3), and I have to adjust my grip to comfortably reach the second row (4/5/6). The tips of my index and middle fingers, meanwhile, rest over the honeycomb pattern cutouts on the M1/M2 buttons, making left/right mouse clicks feel less precise.
There are a few smaller issues with the Aerox 9, as well. For one thing, the sensor placement needs to be adjusted. The sensor should be moved away from the palm and up towards the front of the mouse, which would improve wrist aiming. Also, the scroll wheel is rather poor. The stock scroll wheel's performance is inconsistent (switching weapons in CS2, for example, doesn't always work as intended), and sometimes when I'm scrolling I can hear a soft noise from inside the mouse, like the metal chime of a tiny spring.
If SteelSeries addresses these complaints in a revision, I'll happily buy that new Aerox 9. As it stands, I've chosen to return mine.
But if you wanted it because it claims to have Bluetooth functionality, well, prepare to be disappointed. The (terrible) software that you have to use to customize the buttons and RBG colors on the mouse just doesn't work via Bluetooth. Trying to change the colors results in a popup that says that setting isn't available when connected with Bluetooth. It suggests using their "Prism" tool instead.
Except, when you click over to Prism, it tells you that it cannot detect your mouse while it is connected via Bluetooth (even though you are literally using the mouse to navigate the software that claims it can't detect it).
After much frustration, I just returned it. Sure, I could have used it with the dongle, but I specifically wanted it for Bluetooth, and I refuse to give money to a company that would do something so bizarrely stupid as lobotomize the device when used via Bluetooth. Great mouse, incredibly stupid software.
incredible feeling in the hand. and the buttons are essential to the variety gamer. even basic fps games can benefit from a few binds on the mouse.
I've been longing for a lightweight ambidextrous body style MMO mouse for a long time. I honestly thought this might be the one, unfortunately it's not even close.
It's pretty sharp looking, but for me that's about where it stops.
Here's a list of the Pro's and Cons:
CONS:
1. The exterior of the mouse is matte, so if you have dry hands be prepared for this mouse to hardly have any grip while trying to reach for the awkwardly placed side buttons, especially if you pick the mouse up regularly while gaming because it's actually more ergonomic like the Razer Death Adder and a lot less like Glorious Model-O even thought it looks like it. I'm not sure why these hardware companies seemingly don't test their own products, but the button placement on this mouse is just annoying when it really didn't have to be.
2. The left and right mouse buttons on the top are so sensitive that just lifting the mouse and setting it down triggers them, and if you're turning the mouse to reach side buttons you accidentally press them on accident a lot.
3. There's no extra buttons on top of the mouse other than the one DPI switch which feel like a huge missed opportunity, especially for the price.
4. The one I got today, the left mouse button clicked twice upon decompression making a single mouse click feel crunchy and like a double click.
5. The sensor even after the firmware update and installing the software engine felt mediocre. It would go from 900dpi to what would feel like 400dpi mid swipe trying to fight and move in game. This only happened in wireless mode and I believe it was from the mouse slightly tilting and lifting the sensor due to its design.
6. Way overpriced for what you actually get.
Pro's
1. It's wireless if that's important to you.
2. I'm getting a full refund.
This mouse doesn't even feel much lighter than the other MMO mice I have. Unless you're a Razer Death Adder or a Naga fan save yourself some time and money and go with something else. I haven't found anything that fits my hand as well as my Redragon Impact M908 with the weights out.
The biggest problem here is that the mouse both expects you to have very light, small hands, and very large, freakishly long thumbs.
The main attraction of an MMO mouse is the side buttons. I have fairly large hands, at about 8 1/2 inches from the base of my palm to the tip of my middle finger, and about a 9 inch wingspan. Unless you're an NBA player, good luck reaching those keys. The side buttons are so far toward the front of the mouse, and add some ridiculous staggered angle, I cannot comfortably reach the 1, 2, 3, or 6 buttons. They're so hard to reach, I have to shift my grip to get at them. Palm and claw don't work. I can't reach the buttons in palm. When I do claw, I invariably add more weight on my index finger. That's when the second major problem shows up.
The actuation force on the clicks is absurdly low. This trend in recent years to reduce actuation force / distance is really, really stupid. Speed switches on keyboards, with ~1.2mm actuation, as opposed to the standard 2mm, have shown to have ZERO improvements in actuation speed. It's a gimmick that makes you bad at typing. It seems we're doing this with mice now, too. If you so much as look at the mouse funny, it will click. Unless you have baby hands, you can't rest your finger on the button at all. Having a neurological condition that causes me to shake, I have no choice. My large hands, not large enough to reach the side buttons, are also too large to comfortably use the mouse as a mouse. Lovely.
I measured the actuation force of the click at the tip of the button at around 30g. I'm using a scale, so it's not as accurate as a proper force gauge, but it got the job done. My Naga Pro actuated at 45g at the tip. The thing is, with the Naga, I don't have to rest my finger on the end of the button. Not only is it 50% more required force, but I can rest closer to the axis, which means my 70-80g force of a resting finger is less likely to actuate the click. The actuation force is fine when I palm grip, but again, I cannot do this AND use the side buttons, because this thing was designed by Salad Fingers.
For perspective, Cherry Brown keyboard switches are 55g. Blue are 60g. Red, being a pretty light switch, is 45g. Keyboard switches are also usually not required to bear the weight of a finger unless you're actively pressing a key. The mouse has to. 30g is too low.
Lastly, they replaced their old Engine software with this bloated GG thing. I didn't use it long enough to form an opinion on it, but lighter companion applications are almost universally better.
Buy a Naga Pro if you're willing to spend this much. Buy a Logitech G600 if you want to spend 1/4 the money. Hell, I'd recommend a Corsair Scimitar over this thing, and the side buttons on that thing suck, too.
Steelseries, you can fix this mouse by moving the buttons closer to the back, making them shorter in length for denser placement (see Naga), and stiffen up the click a bit. If you do that, you have a winner. Unfortunately, you designed the worst of both worlds.
My main issue is with the build quality. I've only had it a couple of days and the left mouse button is already showing signs of degrading. It has a slight left/right wiggle that you can hear a tiny creak with it if you listen closely, and sometimes a click as if it is pressing a button but at a much higher pitch. When I'm actively using the mouse, this extra click I have no idea whether it's activating an unbound function or not. All I know is that it is driving me crazy because I'm hearing multiple clicks where there shouldn't be any. Readjusting my grip slightly = click. Using the left click and lifting my finger not perfectly up (so I'm accidentally pushing it to the side) = click. I don't wear headphones so this sound is extremely noticeable to me and, if I could, I would return it based solely on this because if a few days has already shown this much wear and tear, what will a month or a year do?
3. Ergonomie

The major flaw is the layout of the side buttons. They are just not well placed and the only way to describe it is like the buttons are "landscape" orientation where every other mmo mouse has them "portrait", in addition the entire grid is skewed but not in an ergonomic way, which makes the entire grid way too long. I had to move a bunch of keybinds to get it even close to the layout I'm used to. In addition the buttons are really stiff. After using this for a single gaming session my hand was genuinely hurting from stretching to reach some of the buttons, and I have relatively large hands. It's such a shame because I really like steelseries products. Unfortunately I had to return it, thankfully Amazon has an amazing returns policy so this was no issue.
The other problem I've had could be either software related or mouse related but when i boot up the pc sometimes and i leave it on wireless and then turn the mouse on using the button underneath then it flat out will not detect it until I plug it into the charger cable ( which kinda defeats the purpose of wireless ) after i unplug it then detects it wirelessly.
Overall the mouse is good but if you're looking for a good replacement to your corsair schimitar or naga for your MMO or MOBA games then sorry but this is not it. It almost feels like an FPS mouse with some badly designed side buttons slapped on it.
Pros:
- Sehr leichtes Gewicht
The mouse seems to disconnect randomly, often during high-intensity gaming or tasks requiring precision, which is incredibly frustrating. It also lags occasionally, even after I tweaked the settings to match my performance needs.
The battery life is much shorter than I expected. I barely get a full day’s use out of it before needing to plug it in, which defeats the purpose of going wireless. Another downside is that the Bluetooth functionality doesn’t allow you to integrate your colours or change settings in SteelSeries Engine. For a product in this price range, these issues are hard to overlook.
I’ve always used a SteelSeries keyboard and thought this mouse would be a great match for seamless integration. However, I honestly feel like I should have stuck with my wired Razer Naga X. The only real reason I switched was for the wireless functionality, but that hasn’t been worth the trade-off.
For the price, even on sale, I expected much better performance. I’d recommend considering other options, especially if reliability and precision are critical for you.
The cable that was sent was a functioning USB C cable, and it does fit in the mouse. HOWEVER, I ordered this because I wanted more cables like the one that comes with the mouse, which is very thin and extremely flexible and lightweight.
This cable is definitely NOT that same cable that steel series sends, and is infact almost 4 times the thickness of the original wiring, and heavy. If you were to use this for the mouse it drags on the desk pretty bad as it is not really designed for it.
I was rather unimpressed with the 16 dollar price tag of this cable as I can get a equivalent and lighter cable from the corner gas station. If you need a cable this does work, but you can get one of these elsewhere for much cheaper than this. And it is not the cable that is pictured.
Returned for Refund.
The mouse however has stopped connecting to my mac completely after 6 months.
This is insane given the warranty was for 2 years. I can't seem to reach out to Steelseries support either.
Steer clear of this,
Side button and main buttons feel great.
Setup took a few min to get to the preferred settings.
Well worth it on discount
However the reason for the 1 star review - customer support
The item began always displaying a green LED even when the device is turned off, this led a signficantly compromised battery life of about 1-2 days as the device is always on. Now this poses an issue for a wireless device, as I personally travel a lot and not having to worrying about cables and charging devices was a big selling point for the item. I contacted customer support at SteelSeries who agreed the item was in warranty and were happy to sort a replacement. This is where the problem is. As per their policy, the consumer has to destroy their item, send photo evidence, then wait an undisclosed time to be provided a coupon to purchase a replacement, after which you can do what you wish with your now broken device. The issue with this policy is you will be without a device for a period of time, which may affect you in xyz ways, and ultimately it seems to go against sustainability pledges outlined by SteelSeries, as you are destroying a functioning item albeit with a compromised battery life. I appreciate this is to stop fraud or reselling of the item, however it seems anti consumer and I'd expect better from a large company.
To summarise, buy with caution, the product is great but should you run into problems, you will have to deal with the outlined issue.
*Nice sensor, no stuttering or jumping.
*Medium hand size is recommended.
*Many buttons are not too hard to distinguish after getting use to it.
*Good battery life.
SOME OCCASIONAL INTERFERENCE WHEN USING STEELSERIES ARCTIS 7+ HEADPHONES.
You can sometimes hear static click sounds through headphones when clicking on the mouse.
This is easily solved by replugging mouse or headphones dongle, but is still troublesome.
Keine macOS-Shortcuts: Systemeigene Tastenkombinationen (z.
Was mir besonders gefällt:
Klare Kaufempfehlung!
However, there are some drawbacks. It only supports one Bluetooth pairing, is difficult to clean inside and the USB-C charging port is recessed so deeply that bulkier connectors can't reach it.
All of that would be tolerable if it were reliable. But I’m giving it a one star because this is now the second unit I've owned where the scroll wheel starts to jumping in the opposite direction after about a year. A quick online search shows I’m far from the only one facing this issue. When I received the replacement in November 2024, I hoped the problem had been resolved. Unfortunately, it was not. It's baffling that a €100 mouse can have such a glaring flaw, especially when my €8 no-name Chinese mouse from a decade ago still works perfectly.
Unless the manufacturer addresses the scroll wheel issue, I can't recommend this product for long-term use.
- Good battery life and it charges quite fast when connected by wire
- Lightweight, with the centre of gravity ending up quite close to the sensor
- Solid wireless connection without any perceptible input lag
- High degree of customisability for the buttons and other mouse functionality
Cons:
- The software is glitchy at times, making configuring the mouse more difficult than it should
- No "offline profile" for when you connect it to a computer that doesn't have the SteelSeries software, it instead uses whatever profile you last had configured
- Sometimes slow to come back up when the USB receiver is disconnected and reconnected
- I wish it came with an included USB male-A to female-C adapter for the receiver (it does come with an USB-A to USB-C cable and a female-to-female USB-C adapter so you can use it with an USB-A port, but it's a clunky setup on a laptop for example)
- Somewhat awkward button placement (for my hand at least), can't really find a good grip that allows me to hit both the 3 and 10 buttons without having to shift my hand
