The mouse works perfectly fine and I have absolutely no issues with it. The reason I'm giving 3 stars is because I'm the description on the mouse it says it gives you a code for an in-game item and the mouse DID NOT come with said code. I asked both Amazon support and the supplier about it and was told that nothing could be done about it since it's a refurbished item

The SteelSeries Aerox 9 is easily the best MMO mouse I’ve used for World of Warcraft. The side panel with multiple programmable buttons makes managing abilities, macros, and keybinds so much easier—it really improves gameplay and efficiency in raids and PvP.

What I love most is how lightweight it feels despite being packed with so many buttons. Long gaming sessions don’t cause hand fatigue, and the ergonomic shape fits comfortably in my hand. The buttons are well-positioned, easy to reach, and have a nice tactile click without being too stiff.

The sensor is fast and precise, and the wireless connection is flawless—no lag or drops, even in intense battles. Battery life is excellent, and when I need to charge, it tops up quickly with USB-C.

For WoW and other MMOs, this mouse is a game-changer. It combines lightweight comfort, reliable performance, and tons of customization. If you’re serious about WoW, this mouse is worth every penny.

I had concerns on the open hexagon back to start with, but I thought "surely the mouse would have an easy way to clean it because of this - no. You risk damaging the mouse trying to get the dust out of it, or you have to accept there's dust going to get in it and ruin it anyway.
Well it lasted 6 months and the scroll wheel has already died.
It also causes me a lot of hand pain to use it.
The software is buggy as all hell too, your DPI settings get changed time and suddenly mouse is hard and sluggish to use. It also will randomly disconnect on your without warning despite always being plugged in.

I've only had my hands on this mouse for a few hours at this point, so I can't truly speak to how good or bad the battery life is. However, my initial impression is that this mouse more than serves its purpose.

Regarding the SteelSeries GG/Engine functionality, I can safely say that the range of customization options, both for RGB and for the actual hardware, are expansive enough to leave even the most finicky of performance tweakers' content.

For the accessories, I have a bit of an issue with the USB-C 2.4 GHz dongle. I'm using this mouse on a laptop with a single USB port, and having the dongle in said port effectively blocks me from using the adjacent USB-A port and one of the audio jacks. While using the mouse over Bluetooth is a solution, that does reduce some of the functionality, and felt like it introduced a bit of latency. The extender and braided USB-A to USB-C cable used to connect to the extender AND charge the mouse are pretty high quality and are honestly an expected inclusion for a mouse like this.

For actual gameplay usage, the mouse does its job well. My only complaint is that in exchange for the iconic lightweight design the Aerox line offers, I'm making some sacrifices. I primarily purchased this mouse so that I don't have to steal my Logitech G600 from my desktop while using my laptop to play my favorite MMO. But the bulky G600 has a feature I'm having trouble to adapting to the Aerox 9 lacks: The third click button that when pushed in conjunction with the side keys, inputs them with the Control key modifier (1 becomes Ctrl+1, etc.). The reduced weight, better portability, and wireless functionality is a worthwile trade off, I feel, but this may not be the case for you if you are accustomed to having that ease of access in MMOs.

Finally, we come to my main sticking point with the Aerox 9. The ergonomics. They are *mostly* flawless... With one glaring issue. When using the side keys, my thumb rests nicely on the second row where they have a nice nub to indicate where you are on the keys. But to reach the *top* row requires me to stretch and slightly rotate my hand in order to get a sure feel for which key I'm pushing and to reliably do so. This can be mitigated somewhat by resting your hand slightly higher up on the mouse, but this also takes away from the good shape of the mouse somewhat. If SteelSeries ever does a refresh on the design, I encourage them to look into bringing the side keys back towards the bottom of the mouse maybe even just two or three millimeters.

In the end, I feel like this mouse can give you what you need if you are looking for a wireless MMO mouse, being one of the only ones available from a major, reputable brand that I've found. The mouse's software gives you full range to customize it to your needs, and the lightweight design makes most other MMO mice feel like bricks by comparison. The ergonomics issue can be overcome with adapting how you hold it somewhat, and it trades some functionality for the lightweight design. The dongle's width should be a non-issue for most users, and the accessories included are of a high quality. I do feel like I could safely recommend this mouse to a friend who needs a MMO mouse that has to be wireless, and perhaps even if they're just more accustomed to lightweight, low-profile mice than the monster-sized mice that most MMO mice are.

*I may update this review down the line once I've gotten more experience with it.

I bought this to work with multiple devices (work and play). Found out the key mapping won't work in Bluetooth mode so you always need to plug in the dongle. This dimishes the usefulness of this mouse which is a major minus. The mouse is one of the lightest MMO mouse I've used which is a plus.

The mouse just completely died out of nowhere while playing, but that's not the only let down about this mouse, it's price is considerable high, therefore, you expect a high-quality product, it does feel like that, but the battery is amazingly bad. It would only last for about 8-10 hours before needing to be charged for like an hour, also, some of the buttons just don't feel natural to be reached.

Leve e com todas as funcionalidades, mas longe de perfeito.
Mouse Realmente bem leve.

Now this is coming from someone who has used multiple mice for years, and I am a keyboard and mouse enthusiast I would say. I have used many Logitech mice, including the G502, the G600 (discontinued) the G903, and more. I have used the Corsair Scimitar and the Razer Naga as well. Overall all of these mice, were good, you could easily press all of the 12 side mouse buttons without awkward handling angles, accidental clicks and discomfort. Also all of these mice, at least the ones that were wireless (most) and all other wireless mouse brands I have used come with a standard USB 2.4 dongle, the Steel Series Aerox 9 comes with a USB-C, which I do not have on my PC (I know that is my fault, but very inconvenient nonetheless). The Aerox 9 comes with a cable and and extension adapter, which I figured would work as my USB-C to USB adapter but that did not work and ultimately could not get it connected to my PC. I was very excited to add this mouse to my collection, like a kid awaiting Christmas is how I felt waiting for it to arrive. The design and look of this mouse was in my opinion so cool, and have always heard very good things about Steel Series so that is where my excitement came from. Upon unboxing, packaging felt nice, easy instructions; everything felt right and I was now excited to try it. First time picking it up it felt almost weightless and fit into my hand well (my hand size = 2XL glove size), I really enjoyed the initial feel, the skates now these were excellent gliding across my mouse pad in fierce competition with my Logitech G502 Lightspeed. They felt perfect for gaming. Next the adapter and cable mentioned earlier seem like great quality nothing wrong there besides the adapter extension not working as an adapter but I digress. Now lets get into the reason I am retuning this product, for what the mouse is, a 12 side button MMO gaming mouse it just simply is not going to work. The buttons specifically 1 2 & 3 seem impossible to reach, to reach I am finding myself needing to use extremely weird angles, causing misclicks with LMB & RMB, any way I try to hold this thing does not work for the side buttons. So the mouse is literally impractical and functionless unless you only want to use buttons 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, & 9 so only 50%. My wife (hand size = small glove size) gave it a try and it was even worse for her. With all the other options available for an MMO-Style mouse save yourself the trouble and skip this one and pray Gravastar releases a MMO-Style mouse.

The scroll wheel on mine barely works. Trying to warranty it has been annoying so I haven't yet. The battery life is noticeably shorter then what they try to tell you - I feel like I can't keep it off charge for more then a few hours while my phone goes to 100% before it bitches for more juice. The 12 buttons on the side are annoying to use since the mouse is so light, and gunk up easily for me.

On the plus side, it's nice & light for moving, and the wholes at the top prevent a lot of sweatiness. Btu they also allow a fantastic ton of debris to fall into the mouse, which I assume will destroy it in a year or such.

Overall a terrible purchase for the price. I may like it more once I get it warrantied but this mouse single handedly shook my faith in buying more steelserries products.

I wanted to update my aging and discontinued mid level multi-side button Logitech mouse for my living room and bedroom PC's, where I do all my gaming.. it didn't work on just the bare recliner arm very well, so I needed to use a small wooden circle with an attached bean bag (for stability) sitting on the arm for smooth tracking.. I also wanted a mouse with a rechargeable battery and that could do wired, wifi, AND bluetooth as I have a second Mini PC in my living room and could use the mouse itself to switch between controlling either one... (and it works well for that actually, I have it connected via Bluetooth to the mini PC and Wifi and wired to the gaming PC and just flip the switch on the mouse to the appropriate position).

I generally use a PS5 controller for more action oriented fps games (tho heartily agree that mouse and keyboard is the superior aiming control, I'm just a more casual single player game type). I'm usually in a recliner when gaming, so prefer to have a mouse with extra buttons so that i don't have to rely on a keyboard in my lap unless absolutely necessary..

tho not usually this many buttons as I at first thought this mouse was going to be unwieldy due to having SO many side buttons.. but I was pleasantly surprised upon trying the mouse and finding it fit my medium sized hands just right and all those side buttons (3 rows of 4) were actually easy to find and use with my thumb... no issues there at all thankfully.

it's a really light mouse, which really isn't a detriment for me but I could see someone wanting one that perhaps feels a bit more substantial for more competitive play maybe.. and really, that's my only thing I can critique it for really.. of the two I bought, one just stopped being recognized as a usb device by any PC.. I suspect it was a manufacturing issue, bad chip.. havent had any issue with the replacement or the second mouse at all..

so, there's a lot really good about this mouse.. I don't usually leave reviews unless it's really deserved as I'm admittedly lazy, lol. let's go over the good...

first, the software works great. Pairing and firmware updates can be a bit specific as they want you to plug the wifi dongle into the provided usb-c adapter via a usb-c cable rather than put the dongle directly into a usb-c port.. but it's a small inconvenience and only for initial or repairing or rare firmware updates.. and I wished the program opened up directly to the programming screen rather than the marketing page.. but it's super powerful software with tons of features, used for all their products.. you can have game profiles that automatically switch when you launch a game and as many as you like.. and any type of setting you can think of is there.. all buttons are programmable aside from the connection switch of course.. and tons of commands, windows shortcuts and combos, macros.. etc.. same for the LED lighting, which has three zones and tons of choices.. (tho I have it minimally set to a quick light up when a button is pressed to save battery life). but it works and has zero issues.. (unlike the awful Armoury Crate crap which is a slow memory hog that caused crashes on my beefy gaming pc)

the mouse can be used via bluetooth, usb-c (recharged, wired), and wifi.. now with bluetooth, you can't do any programming or profiles and it eats a bit more battery life than the low power wifi.. but not much. battery life is really great. It's been maybe two weeks since my last charge for my living room mouseand i've got the minimal led and switching between bluetooth and wifi to control different PC's.. i use it almost daily and it's only at 55% at two weeks! it also charges fast..

so yeah, I do lose some extra functionality like changing profiles and such if using bluetooth but I personally don't need it, just basic regular functionality, for the second mini PC as that's just for media like youtube or plex while I'm gaming on the living room tv.

another great thing about it is the sensor.. I can use this on any surface.. I think it's a proprietary one, not sure.. just know I now can just use my pants leg or recliner arm as my mouse pad where my last laser mouse still needed a separate surface for smooth tracking...

so I highly recommend this mouse.. it's well built.. it's not at all huge but everything fits my medium sized hands great and the side buttons are not an issue at all and easy to find and use.. it's got great battery life and I really like the software as well.. it's got a use anywhere sensor and the worst thing I can possibly say about it is that it might be a little too lightweight for some is all. that's it. I also bought an Apex pro tkl wireless that was on sale for the living room (as it also has the same bluetooth/wifi/wired/recharge functionality) and i love that too and there are features in the software where you can co-ordinate the LED lighting if you want.. or have a game control it.. I just use the lighting for more practical low light reasons over any flashy ones and to help preserve battery life but both have excellent marks on that..

it's a bit pricey but for what ya get, it's fairly worth it and you can always wait for a sale as well.

I've been using the Aerox 9 for[laying Baulder's Gate 3 and never need to use the keyboard.. love it!

cheers!

I will focus on the feeling and the weight. This is light and by light, I mean really light. to the point I cant use any other mouse! My wrist pain is gone! and I spend even more hours in front of my computer.

I need to mention also that the honeycomb design was the only concern I had. But you don't even notice it and it definitely is a positive for feel and grip temperature!

I'll cut right to the chase: This is a bad mouse.

Now, I already have several other mice I use (and re-use) throughout the years for both work and MMO play. I wanted to see what was top of the line with wireless and this was about as expensive as they get. Was it worth it? No. Absolutely not. There are 50-100 dollar MMO mice on here (RedDragon, Razr) that I have currently own, use and have done me surprisingly well when I compare it to this mouse.

What's good about it? Excellent feel and design. Buttons are large and might take a minute to get used to, but it really works well....when it does work...as a comfortable and stylish mouse to use.

What's bad about it? Disconnects constantly & Battery life is crap. Battery is really closer to 48-36 hours....and that's not 48 hours of play, that's 48 hours of it being on, sitting still, on a desk. When the battery life gets low I know because then it starts disconnecting every 10 minutes. No real warning for it beyond playing a game with it...and then you're not.

Trouble shooting it when it disconnects is also bizarre. It might disconnect because the computer went to sleep, the battery got low, or you opened the wrong window, or just at complete random. Sometimes it takes turning the mouse off and on. Sometimes it takes unplugging the dongle and plugging it back in. Sometimes it takes any combination of the two. Sometimes switching it back into bluetooth and then back into the other setting works. And, let me be clear, it disconnects everyday, multiple times. Hard for me to put a rough number to it but I'd say between 6ish times a day? It even just disconnected right now.

I have another mouse I bought 3 years ago for 25$ off Amazon...Anker I think is the brand? It's not a gaming mouse, I use it for my work computer, but I put 2 double AA batteries in it when I first bought it and have yet to change them. It's also as reliable as the built in keyboard for the laptop it's dongle is plugged into. I can't think of a time I ever had to reset the link. This mouse by Steelseries is 6x the price of that mouse and a striking failure by comparison. It's a shame because, again, I do like the physical design....but I rarely come across something in tech these days that has such a distance between the elite price it's listed for and how cheaply made the product actually is.

Should you buy this mice? Well, if you're like me, have an extra 150$ to burn in your life, two other MMO multi-key mice already plugged into your gaming PC as backup, and are somewhat entertained by failure, then maybe. But if that's not you, I would avoid this.

I purchased this to replace a dying G600, the GOAT mmo mouse. I have to say it's pretty fantastic in general. The battery lasts for weeks, it's very light, has all the side buttons you'd need, has mouse tilt clicks.

It is slightly longer than the G600 but much lighter. This actually causes some unforseen issues, it's very easy to nudge the mouse with your hand on it while idle, needing you to reposition your pointer/camera depending on the game. This is a very minor issue that may go away as muscle memory kicks in fully, you could also futz with the acceleration settings to eliminate it I suppose. The side buttons feel good but I often find myself having to really grip the mouse to stop it from drifting while pressing one of those inputs. Initially I didn't like the side panel position but I got used to it and it's great now. Feels similar to the G600 but I think it could use one additional nub for orientation.

The mouse isn't perfect and there were some very minor things to get accustomed to as mentioned above. But barring that it's great! Latency, responsiveness, dpi, no issues at all. The Steelseries software is on par with the Logitech G hub so you can program whatever macros or buttons you want. Heads up though, mouse tilt buttons were not configured by default, I had to assign them as generic mouse buttons 4 and 5, if I recall right, to work which wasn't hard to do but slightly perplexing. The honeycomb shell was the first one I ever used and it felt weird at first but I don't notice it now, it's more like a texture than anything.

So if you were on the fence I wouldn't hesitate if you see this on sale or monthly financing through Amazon. It's a great investment.

This mouse started off strong for me, liked how light weight it was, glides really well. still not used to the side buttons but thats on me as I was using a razer naga for like 9/10 years.

The issues that I am experience with the mouse now that I am just over a month with it is that the scroll wheel is being a pain. The input is not being detected properly or its trying to scroll up and down at the same time. Doesnt matter what direction I scroll in, it will just have whatever I want to scroll just scroll both up and down briefly and mostly stay in the same spot as before. Doesnt matter how fast or slow that I scroll, this occurs. I have tried both with it plugged in and wireless and the issue occurs ALL THE TIME. I use the mouse for both work and gaming and its when I am working that its frustrating to deal with.

The other issue I have is that it will occasionally lose connection while in use, when its wireless. I then have to wait for it to reconnect or just plug it in. Luckily it hasnt happened too much while gaming in moments its needed but still something that is annoying.

I've used an MMO mouse since around 2010 including the Razor Naga, Logitech G600, and Corsair Scimitar. I was excited when I saw a lightweight and wireless alternative since MMO mice are generally very bulky and heavy. With this I could play also be more comfortable playing other games that benefit from lighter mouse movement like FPS and Mobas and even OSU.

UNFORTUNETLY the side buttons on this thing are absolutely awful and need work. I read reviews and saw people complaining but figured it couldn't be that bad.

My main issue is the 1-3 buttons (ESPECIALLY NUMBER 3) toward the front of the mouse. They are not at a flat angle with the other buttons if that makes sense. It's like they are angled outward with the curve of the front of the mouse. I find myself subconsciously using my keyboard for 1-3 rather than the mouse because it's just easier. I've even been considering remapping 1,2 ,3 to actually be 4,5,6 and just not using the first 3 buttons. They are really that bad. With that being said, buttons 4 ,5 ,6 , 7, 8, 9 are alot easier to press. They are more flat and in a good spot on the mouse. This might all be a personal grip and hand size problem? I dont know. These are not problems I've had with other MMO mice. I have average sized male hands with a palm grip.

The buttons are also very hard to press. You have to really put some force on them compared to other MMO mice. Which is fine... But because it's such a lightweight mouse alot of the force just ends up moving the mouse and I end up jittering my camera or character movement slightly with button presses. (Especially with buttons 1-3...)

I really wanted to enjoy this mouse. And I do ... But at this point I'd rather buy an actual wireless and lightweight FPS mouse and have a Razor Naga on the side for MMOs and WoW.

For just a wireless gaming mouse, I've very much enjoyed it. No complaints. But for MMOs the buttons on the side are terrible and I would very much consider this issue when buying this mouse.

Good:
- Mouse feels good in the hands, it's light, and it glides like its on ice.
- The side buttons are firm and give a nice tactile click when you press them in.
- All of the side buttons are reachable easily by my thumb in a palm grip (hand length 7.4in). YMMV, measure from the crease under your palm to the tip of your middle finger.

Bad:
- The software (steel series gg) is terrible. But lets be real: So is icue, ghub, synapse, etc. Pick your poison.
- The only way you're going to get close to the advertised battery length is if you use the mouse in "eco mode". Eco mode dials back the reporting rate to 125hz and has the responsiveness of a drunken sloth. Realistically, you'll get maybe 24-48 hrs depending on your settings.
- The price. If you don't mind using a heavier mouse, the G600 is a far better option in terms of value.

--
Started using on Jan 20th 2023. Will update this review if any issues pop up.

Update Jan 25th 2023: The battery life is really inconsistent, and the battery remaining value in app fluctuates. Sometimes it will drop from 80% to 60% in an hour, only to plug it in and the app reads 85% remaining. Not sure if it's an app issue or a firmware issue but it is pretty irritating.
-1 star

Update March 12 2023: The button assignments and profile switching just stops working sometimes (haven't figured out what causes it). Restarting the steelseries gg software doesn't fix the issue. Signing out of windows and resigning in doesn't fix the issue either. You will need to completely reboot your system for your side mouse buttons to work again. Pretty big annoyance if you use different profiles for the games you play.

It has been 3 years and 2 months since my purchase, I finally encountered a catastrophic failure - so it is time for my official review.

FAILED PARTS: The failed parts are the 1-3 keys. The 3 key works if I press it at weird angles sometimes. Seems like a mechanical failure, but I haven't opened it up yet.

THE GOOD: Battery life and charging time were acceptable, I often charged between matches and unplugged during the game. Left and right click are still perfectly functioning even after HEAVY usage (DotA2, CSGO). Excellent for MMO and FPS games that require a lot of controls that are best split between two hands.

THE BAD: The USB-C interface is recessed into the mouse, so if you have a charging cable with a particularly large shroud/sleeve it will not fit. The mouse seems to have some weird problems waking and connecting to my computer, this persisted even between fresh OS installs with the latest updates with the latest firmware. It never disconnected during a match unless the battery died. Once the connection is established, it is rock solid. But if you wake your PC from sleep, or power on from an off state, sometimes there are issues. You have to toggle the power switch a few times to get it working. If you're the kind of person who eats snacks while you game, this mouse is absolutely not for you - cleaning is a significant challenge. Dead skin and sweat builds up on the holes as is, but with food, it will be much worse.

THE VERDICT: If you're on a budget, get the Corsair Scimitar. It seems to last longer. I am coming from a Corsair Scimitar that lasted 4 years and 3 months. The Steel Series Aerox 9 Wireless lasted 3 years and 2 months. That's over a year of additional playtime and you save like $10-$40 at the sacrifice of 40 grams of additional weight and a slightly different grip style.

THE OTHER: The clicks are loud enough that you might drive someone in the same room a bit crazy, but if you're in a separate room its probably fine. Mouse profiles are exportable to a file and can be saved on-board.

ADVICE FOR STEEL SERIES PRODUCT MANAGER:
-Swap to solid body for easy cleaning.
-Make the USB-C interface flush with the mouse body to maximize compatibility with charging cable shapes.
-Review side-button mechanical longevity. I believe the failure has to do with pressing the 1-3 buttons at an angle instead of "dead-on" due to the button placement.
-Review "wake" connection issues.
-Review on-board mouse profile being overwritten when Steel Series software is freshly installed. This could be catastrophic for someone that did not back up their profile.

Everything about this mouse was everything i wanted to upgrade to.

i've daily drove a Razer Naga for over a decade. i used the have the old style Molten Edition Naga. my most recent is the Naga Trinity. I've been dying to get a wireless mouse, and the lightweight hex grid mice always seemed to be neat. Looking at the Aerox, it had everything, plus Bluetooth if i wanted to use Steam Link on a Bluetooth connectable device.

my Aerox arrived today, having found a great deal on a used one for $50!! that should have been the "too good to be true" warning flag.

while the moue is nice and lightweight, connection is as expected, and the software not an issue, the actual shape of the mouse, or rather the placement of the 12 thumb buttons, is what's completely wrong with the mouse.

on the naga, i can comfortably rest my palm against the butt of the mouse, and reach/rest my thumb against the 1-button, accessing every button, 1-12. with the Aerox, IN ORDER to rest/reach the 1 button, i need to turn the mouse in a 45 degree angle in my hand in order to reach/rest my thumb against the 1 button. if i were to grip the mouse as it's intended, my thumb can only rest against the 4 button, and i cant even reach to press the 1-3 buttons. if i were to "choke up" on the mouse, in order to reach the 1-3 buttons "comfortably", the tips of my index and middle fingers almost hang over the ends of the left and right mouse buttons (i like to keep my fingers flat and rested on the mouse), forcing me to "claw grip" those two buttons. in fact, doing this turns my whole grip into a claw grip, rather than a comfortable/relaxed palm grip.

my current result is that i intend to return the mouse for a refund, and possibly putting that towards a Naga Pro, so i can at least upgrade to a wireless/bluetooth mouse, but maintain the comfort i've developed with the Naga lineup. it's too bad they dont have a hex body for the Naga, because that is really the sell point i wanted to get into.

I'll still test drive the Aerox up until the return date in order to make sure i'm not just having a knee jerk reaction to having to change my whole grip.

Update: After a solid 1-2 months, my hand finally got used to the shape. I really did have just "muscle memory" from my previous mouse. It's not so uncomfortable anymore, especially due to the light weight of the mouse. I do often shift my grip style, depending on the game I'm playing, partly due to the rubber grips I've added to the click buttons and pinky side.

I especially enjoy utilizing swapping between the dongle and Bluetooth. I've been able to connect to my phone, tablet, and steam link (the original nuc), and play remotely just about anywhere.

I purchased this June 2022, it is now Jan of 2025.
I have really liked this mouse overall, but lately it has been falling apart.
Pros:
Comfortable, lightweight, very versatile with a ton of keys. Wireless is nice, corded is fine too.
Cons:
12ish months in the scroll wheel stopped responding, I took it apart to clean, and noticed that some of the soldering had let go. I have since been using scroll bars. This felt like a pretty early failure to me, and super annoying.
30 month mark, the right click is only responding sometimes and the 5 key is becoming unreliable as well. At this point the mouse is pretty aged and heavily used.

I'm going to buy a second one.

Update 5/29/25
I must have finally jinxed it. The 1 key on the side has finally started missing clicks. I might try to fix it, but looks like the end of the road is approaching.

Update 4/14/25
Mouse is still going strong, I still play mmos regularly so its being used thoroughly. I swapped PCs and the disconnect issue happens much less than it did in the past, might just be my cable wearing out but havent swapped it yet. Can officially confirm this has lasted much longer than the Naga's with no major issue.

Update 5/19/24
Almost 2 years with the mouse now. It is still working as my main mouse. No double click issues yet, and everything functions as expected except a weird issue that has been happening on and off where while wired the mouse will just disconnect from the PC. I don't leave steelseries GG running in the background, nor any peripheral software for that matter so not sure whats causing it. Usually unplugging and replugging the cable will fix the issue, or just leaving the wireless dongle plugged in and switching to 2.4ghz mode. Strange issue that is starting to annoy me but otherwise the mouse has stayed strong despite all my worries. Wouldn't buy at $150 still but around $80-90 its an ok MMO mouse.
Update 3/28/23
After using this mouse for roughly 6 months (maybe longer) consistently, I was able to make it my sole mouse that replaced all of my Razer naga's. It still took quite the adjustment period to make this happen, but after I had to go on a trip and opted to take the wireless bluetooth mouse with me, this slowly became my goto option after I raided a bit with it. It's still a little narrow for what I would like as my hands are a bit bigger than it, but it is very light making it easy to use with high DPI in a small area, especially when you are trying to game in bed with laptop keyboard + mouse. I never felt like I did quite as well with this mouse as I did with the nagas, but that also could be attributed to amount of time with those mice and more time spent gaming as compared to now, but I think it was worth mentioning (my play-style has me using the mouse number keys as much as possible). Despite all of this, I feel comfortable, and barely hindered by it anymore so it will probably be my goto mouse whether at my desk or on the go.

TL;DR = The side buttons are extremely stiff but the product itself feels really nice. Lightweight, good battery life, mild RGB, great tracking and probably more suitable for FPS than other MMO mice. Solid first attempt mmo mouse from steel series but would wait for a sale.

Full backstory on why I wanted this product and unfiltered thoughts below.

As someone who has been using MMO mice ever since I picked up the first razer naga back whenever that came out, I have been incorporating 12 buttons on the side into my gaming experiences. I absolutely love this design, but was quite devastated with the lack of options in the market today. To finish out my journey, after I had to decommision my old razer naga after years of service (The physical materials gave out before the switches failed), I moved to redragon mouse which I later traded to a friend who had a naga 2014 he didn't like (which was a bad move as the naga 2014 had horrid tracking issues), next I saved for a naga trinity which was fine despite not wanting the other side panels, and then the left clicker started wearing down less then 2 years in, which replicated in all the people I knew who also had the mouse in even less time. I lastly bought a naga X feeling kind of bummed after 2 bad buys, to have the double clicking issue again pop up in that mouse only 7 months in. Convinced Razer's ability to make a well designed product has left them, I was ecstatic to see a steelseries MMO mouse enter the market.

Onto the actual review of this product, I primarily have been playing FF14 and utilize all the side buttons to click my abilities in a very quick fashion. I do endgame raiding so need to be fast and accurate with my button presses. I haven't tried to raid yet with this mouse, but my first impressions are that it is going to require some adjusting to get used to. The side buttons are way stiffer than any other MMO mouse I have tried so far, and quite a bit longer meaning I will have to slide my already large hands up and down a little bit to accurately reach from the top to bottom rows. If I wasn't trying to actively press them quickly, its very comfortable to hold without that, and might be really nice for when I move over to FPS games or general browsing. For my use case however I am slightly concerned.

My next observance is the honeycomb design, this is my first time owning a mouse that is just open like this one. You can directly see the PCB through the open shell. I don't know what this speaks of for long term use, but sometimes I do get sweaty hands as many MMO sessions can carry on a for quite a bit. I don't think it will lead to anything, but just leaving it out there as a mild concern.

The rest of the mouse feels fairly well designed. The clickers don't feel to bad, the multi connectivity is something I have missed since my original 2 nagas, and bluetooth while I haven't tried it seems like a nice touch as well. You will need a type C port to use the 2.4ghz dongle, and it does kind of latch into the slot and requires a bit of force to remove (I struggled a bit to get it out of my laptop). The battery life feels pretty good and it comes with a type C cable for charging or wired connectivity (saddly no charging dock here).

The sensor in the mouse is a proprietary one that steelseries owns, and I have to say its quite awesome. I really like using the mouse with my laptop in bed, as I have had accurate tracking on all of the surfaces I have tried. Compared to some of the other wireless mice I have used like the logitech g502, this thing is a godsend for wanting to laze about comfortable. The mouse is also VERY light, but has a nice center of gravity so its easy to control in your hand. This does feel like a premium peripheral.

Bottom line, I do like this mouse. I had mentioned in my review of their APEX keyboard that I wished they had made a MMO mouse so that when I try to fully integrate into their ecosystem I would actually have a mouse. Felt like fate that not long after this mouse came out. Time will tell if I can actually gain full efficiency with the buttons on the side as I think they just need a little more refinement to be perfect, and it ended up being more of an add on to an already well designed regular mouse, than designed with them from the ground up. While the premium feel is very nice, I don't think this is a 150$ mouse, I got mine on the first sale where it dropped to 90$ which is closer to what I would recommend it at.

So if you are like me and can't stand the defect rate from Razer products anymore, and are able to shill out a bit more to try a new imperfect yet fairly nice device then go for it. If not, and want to wait to see how it holds up then Redragon and Utech are pretty good cheap brands, if you are into modding I heard the logitech one is easy to upgrade, and Corsairs is quite popular as well. Will update if this mouse has any other glaring issues or if my daily driving yields good fruits.

I've been using this mouse for well over a year now, and there's a lot to say. I'm gonna be breaking things down into sections. For context, I've used several MMO mice throughout the years, including several Red Dragons, and some Razer Naga Trinities. Generally, the mouse is great, but is severely hindered by both major and minor issues. If you want my opinion now, if you're looking for a good MMO mouse, look elsewhere. If you just want a good wireless option with smooth aiming, and don't care about the side buttons, the other Aerox models are probably better options, but I can't speak to their quality.

Precision/feel:

The mouse feels very smooth to move around, and does have a lot of precision to it. This is one of the best mice I've used for shooters. Keep in mind, it will not improve your aim, that is entirely based on your own skill. This will only improve how smooth things feel, which will have a knock on effect for sure, but don't buy this thinking you're gonna suddenly become a god at FPS games. I say this, because many products advertise themselves as the solution to your aim, when it's never true.

Build Quality:

The build quality of the mouse is really solid. After a year and a half of heavy use, there has been no wear and tear. The buttons have stayed responsive with no issues. This is a huge plus, as many other expensive mice, like Razer, are prone to double clicking and other button related issues.

Wireless Functionality/Battery:

The wireless is nearly flawless. I experience no latency, and the battery life is more than serviceable; however, the mouse is really bad about warning you when it's low on battery. Your only warning is it will start flashing the LEDs red, but that's not a great indicator, as I'm usually staring at my screen, not my mouse. The software shows your mouse battery, but there are no notifications to warn you, which feels like an obvious feature for a wireless gaming mouse. A battery life of more than 180 hours is also incredibly generous, I maybe get a couple days of use before needing to charge (which is still fine if you regularly charge when not using). It was way longer when I first got the mouse, which seems to suggest that the battery degrades very quickly. It is worth noting the charge is incredibly fast.

My mouse also has an issue where it randomly disconnects during use, and immediately reconnects. This specific instance is pretty rare, but it has gotten me killed more than a few times in games. The mouse has a sleep feature to preserve battery life when not being used. This is handy, but sometimes the mouse struggles to connect after waking up. It seems to get stuck in a loop that can only be fixed by turning it off, then back on. This is not rare, and gets tiring.

Ergonomics/Buttons:

This is the Achilles heel of the Aerox 9, and where it becomes a waste of money. While in general the mouse is nice and comfortable to use (aiming and shooting is its strong side), the buttons completely ruin this. For one, the DPI switch is only one button. I've had incredibly cheap mice with two DPI buttons, but despite being over a hundred dollars they couldn't make it work I guess. This means you have to cycle through all your DPI settings, instead of being able to just go up and down at will. The big major issue is the placement of the side buttons. Most MMO mice have their buttons placed in a way that the first row aligns with where your thumb rests. These buttons, however, are so far forward that your thumb sits in the middle, meaning you have to reach your thumb to press the first row, which is probably the most common you'll use in most games. The most egregious button is the '3' key. I have to reach so far for this button, that I usually end up moving my mouse in the process because of how light it is, which in turn messes up my aim. It feels very strenuous, especially in games that make heavy use of the number row. In lighter cases (like tactical games), it's awkward; in heavy use cases (like, say, Doom Eternal that heavily relies on weapon swapping on the number row), it is very uncomfortable. When a cheap Red Dragon is beating you out on usability, you're doing something wrong. I can't stress enough, THIS IS THE ENTIRE POINT OF THE MOUSE, and it utterly fails. It's to the point that I don't even bother trying to set up macros or keybinds with it, which defeats the point of getting this mouse in the first place.

The Software:

Another sore spot of the mouse. The software is incredibly clunky and buggy to use. For one, you can't just have the mouse software, you have to have a launcher dedicated to SteelSeries hardware in general, and then you have to launch the mouse software from there. I can only assume this is just so they can advertise to you. Secondly, it's very finicky on whether or not it saves my settings. Sometimes the changes are reflected in real time, sometimes they only take affect after I restarted my computer. There has also been many times where it just completely ignores my settings, and it's usually immediately obvious when the lighting randomly changes. Another major issues is that the software frequently corrupts itself. There have been several times where I've launched the software, and it gives me an "unknown" fatal error that prevents me from using it. The only way to fix this, as far as I could find, is completely reinstalling the software; which of course means having to completely redo all my settings. If you look online, it seems the SteelSeries software is a general gripe people have, with some even saying there used to be a better version of the software that got scrapped. If you care, the lighting options are very underwhelming. Comparing to Razer, you only get a couple lighting effects, and setting up the lighting is very finnicky/unreliable. I've also found that having extreme settings (like flashing through all the colors really fast) somehow caused more software issues.

Conclusion:

Absolutely not worth the money. This is one of the worst options for an MMO mouse. While the wireless is pretty flawless, it just fails to accomplish its main purpose. It's a shame, because the mouse is generally smooth to use when playing most shooters, and is generally very comfortable to hold, even with my big hands. If they would've just made the buttons more comfortable to use, it would be a near perfect choice. It would just be as simple as moving them back, even if it means making the buttons a bit smaller to accommodate that. If they ever make a new line of mice with full side buttons, I hope they rethink this design.

2nd unit update

This 2nd unit of mine Aerox 9 Mouse, after 7 months of use, failed on scroll up and down again. I bought Aerox 9 the first one failed the scroll up and down in 10 months, there was zero dirtiness inside no hair no dust whatsoever, they gave me a new mouse for free that one lasted about 10 months, which then ran out of service period and had to buy the second one. Now the second unit also kept clean failed on the scroll up and down again. This is the third time I had this issue. I hate this mouse and would have been much happier without it.

24 month update

The scroll up and down failed again. The replacement mouse I got from warranty did not hold up long enough. Funny it's middle, left and right click works, but the scrolling up and down does not. Exact same problem I had in 10 month update. Therefore, I put 1 less star for review from 4 stars to 2 stars. Do something about it Steelseries. You guys do realize it is 2025? how a simple scroll up down can fail so frequently and repeatedly? Great mouse, not the most ergonomic but not an issue for me, but scroll wheel just made this mouse a big regret for me.

10 month update

The wheel scroll died. It took me 3 weeks to get a new mouse off warranty. Funny thing is that Ive been using a faulty mouse all along. When using 2 applications, say a browser and a game, you can have 2 functionality from the mouse. For example left wheel scroll click for previous page while using a browser and f1 key for game. But the first mouse did not work properly in this regard. The one i got for replacement works seamlessly. All in all i dont have such a great impession on the steel series products and the customer service . The people working there are not alert and dont do their best to help tue customers or describe the procedure. I had to ask same question over and over because they copy paste not very detailed answers and even unclear answers to what I ask from their respond. So i go from 4 stars to 3 stars. Nice product, bad quality control, and laughable customer service.

one tip!

If you want to use this mouse for longer period of time, I suggest you clean the inside of mouse with air blower. My mouse upon destruction for warranty activation showed some dusts and short hairs inside, which could have caused the problem. I dont think the air blower will completely clean up the inside, but I believe it is worth maintained that way because this mouse has holes everywhere making it susceptible to dust and debris gathering inside.

Original review

After about a month of use, I can confirm this mouse is legit except for the battery life that lasts only about 40 hours of heavy MMO use in 2.4Hz connection without RGB. If RGB is turned on, I think this mouse will last only about 12 hours. I’ve had one other MMO mouse before, G600, and I like the Aerox 9 a lot more though G600 had angled buttons to allow users to find the buttons easier in the beginning. Side button positions and layout is just as good on both mouse. It’s about the same difficulty of pushing side buttons. In the most comfortable grip, my thumb finds 4-9 naturally, but 1-3 and 10-12 is not a problem to push. Since Aerox 9 is much lighter than the G600 and has no cable connection, it is easier to maneuver in my hand and find those 1-3 and 10-12. The mouse also is not humongous like some people make it out to be. I am 5ft 9 and have a fair sized hand. My hand is definitely not big for my size. When I put the mouse under my hand in natural comfortable grip, I have a small wiggle room between my wrist and the end tail of the mouse. I don't play game in this comfy grip tho. I put my wrist as close to the tip of the mouse tail so thumb is close to side button 1,2,3 as it allows moving the mouse around more accurately. However, like I said, the mouse is so light, it is easy to tilt/move inside my hand so finding numbers 7-12 isn't a problem. The click sensation is very nice and there is no latency issue at all. Zero.

The real problem of this mouse is the Steelseries Engine software and the customer service. One time, I asked a few questions to the company and it took them 10+ days to reply. The DPI adjustment is only available in 100 increment. A 50 increment up and down would have made a world of difference for me, but the software can only do 100 plus or minus, so fine tuning is not the best. The mouse also does not go back to normal button configuration setup once you engage a game connected to the Engine software. If you start a game bind to the custom button configuration via Engine, the button configuration will stay in a game setup even after the PC turned off and turned back on. I had to open the Engine software to go back to my normal web browser button setup.

One tip. Get a magnetic USB-C connector + cable for charging. It’s much easier to connect the charger that way. The charging port is positioned a little hard to connect, but with magnetic dongle and cable snaps right in.

- Amazingly lightweight & breathes due to the open-frame
- Software is better than Razer's & Corsair's
- RGB functionality works fine, but is boring.
- Even w/ XL hands (8" long x 4" wide), the 1, 2 , & 3 thumb keys are not the easiest to reach. My thumb rests on the 4 & 5 keys comfortably. I can reach the 10, 11, 12 key just fine w/o cramping. So, I would suggest using narrower keys (horizontally) to bring them closer together, so you can reach 1-3 keys easier.
- Battery life is not great on WiFi 2.4Ghz. Even using the software to turn off RGB & put the mouse in sleep mode relatively quickly when idle, the mouse feels like it needs recharged way too often. I would prefer to not have cables across my desk, so having to recharge frequently is somewhat annoying since there is plenty of room in the frame for more battery. You can tell that weight reduction & visible RGB were prioritized over battery life.

I like to use an MMO mouse like this for office-type work. It's really handy to assign ctrl-c, ctrl-v, volume controls (which usually annoying and variable on laptops), switch desktops, things like that.

I used a Redragon wired MMO (M901) mouse for this, which is perfect other than being wired. This looked great! Bluetooth, so I don't need a dongle, saves all settings onto the mouse itself so I can use it different places, lots of buttons.

Unfortunately, the mouse behaves differently in Bluetooth mode. It lowers the polling rate to 125hz (fine), disables all LED customization (fine), and severely restricts what the button presses can be bound to. Now, if I'd read the manual carefully before buying it, it *does* say that. But it's actually not quite correct! It says that it will only allow keyboard button presses, but not macros. Not true! You can do at least double-button macros (ctrl-c) without issues.

You can do whatever short button combos you like as long as they don't include the "Windows" key. So, screen snipping? Switch desktops? Task viewer? Not on Bluetooth. Those buttons just stop working. If you plug it in, or use the wireless dongle, then they come right back. So close!

It does save everything on the mouse. You can uninstall the software and have most functionality once you get it set up.

The only other thing that bugs is that the side buttons are covering a pretty big area. Specifically, a pretty *long*, flat area. It's a bit of a reach to get to the 1-3 row at the front of the mouse. The Redragon mouse has them compressed into a smaller space, and they're in a wavy profile, so it's easier to tell by feel which row you're on. It's the kind of thing I'll just get used to, I'm sure.

Other stuff:

Looks: Pretty cool!

Build quality: To my eye, top-notch.

Weight: Basically nothing.

Scroll wheel click side-to-side: Two extra buttons! (ctrl+left and ctrl+right for the cool kids)

Software: Tolerable. Weirdly doesn't utilize space very well. A+ for not needing to be running all the time if I don't want.

Battery life: Seems great, but can't confirm. I've only charged it once, but I don't actually need to use it all that often.

All that being said, this is now my travel mouse. I think some other MMO mouse will probably do exactly what I want, but the time I've spent trying to fix this particular problem is more than I'll save with a lifetime's worth of hitting win+tab on a keyboard. I'll just deal.

Making the mouse use all possible profiles in Bluetooth seems like the kind of thing that could be changed with a firmware update. Maybe SteelSeries could enable all functionality on Bluetooth. Maybe with a warning that it'll use up more battery or whatever? I would be so happy to make that trade.

Pros:
lighter than any mouse I've had before

12 side buttons

battery life actually better than expected since advertised battery life on most devices tend to be much higher than reality, can use all day with rgb lights on without needing to stop to plug it in

the cable for the dongle extension is the same cable for the mouse so if you don't have an extra usb-c you don't need to get another (unless you really hate unplugging your dongle)
Cons:
needed to update the firmware about 50 times before it was completely up-to-date, before firmware updates wouldn't keep any settings and would have to readjust them in app. Each firmware update took a decent amount of time and they wouldn't automatically update when not in use so the app needs to be opened(at least their app is simple). Updating the firmware of the mouse and the dongle has to be done separately, it won't update mouse firmware while the dongle is plugged into the computer

When switching from wireless to wired or vice-versa the mouse takes about 10-15 seconds to connect and you need to change the switch on the bottom of the mouse to do so, during this time (in my experience) there is also a couple of seconds where my keyboard is disabled.

The scroll wheel would squeak (when scrolling obviously) but is squeaking much less lately, not sure what could be causing the squeak but maybe it's just the rubbery material of the wheel rubbing against an internal component.

The scrolling is a little sensitive for my preferences as there are some games that use the middle mouse click for an action and use scrolling for another action (I've had to change some controls to avoid mis-inputs)

The more technical info:
Completely reprogrammable (with steelseries GG app) including macros.
Middle mouse click (on scroll wheel) has tilt left and right as well as non-tilt click
Still functions as a mouse without the app, however some additional features may not work without it meaning if you're buying this mouse you'll want to download the free app but for setup purposes and navigating BIOS when you need to you don't need an additional mouse
You can have the rgb completely off if you prefer, but you can completely customize what color(s) the lights are, how fast it changes color, brightness, breathing on/off and speed, color change order, and a "reactive" option meaning when you press a button on the mouse it can pulse your choice of color. The lighting also has the option for 3 zones to customize or just set the whole mouse to the same settings.
Your generic wireless mouse is roughly 3/4 the length and 2/3 the width of this mouse while being noticeably heavier than this mouse
Moves smoothly on hard surface and mouse/desk pad so if you take it with your laptop or just don't have a pad it isn't 100% necessary for ease of use (but still preferred for the sake of keeping debris out of the mouse)
The DPI switch can save up to 5 options (can also remove options in case you use fewer) ranging from 100-18000 (completely customizable within that range) and cycles through options with 1 button

Плохо

I've been using this mouse for a more than a year now.
First off let me say that the mouse is very light weight. The software does what I need it to do. The battery lasts a good while. The surface is relatively easy to clean. It tracks well. These reasons are why I wanted to like it so badly. I really wanted this mouse to be good.

My first mouse died within a few months. Literally just stopped working. They gave me a replacement for free. Great. But now this second mouse has a scroll wheel problem, and it seems like I am not the only one. When I scroll, there is a very very annoying and noticeable scroll wheel issue in which it'll reverse direction for one bump for some reason, sometimes for two, and it gets worse the faster you scroll. Really annoying when you are trying to scroll down a page and every like 5 increments down, it goes up one or two, before scrolling down again. I am used to using the scroll wheel for minecraft too to switch between items I am holding, but because the wheel randomly goes the other way, I constantly miss the actual item I am trying to switch to. I really feel like I need to replace this mouse, and the money I paid for it is not representative of the quality of this thing.
