This review is based on my first few hours with this product.This product is simple to set up. For someone who is not savvy with the latest innnovations in surround sound its ease surprised me. These headphones come with a processor that apparently does most of the hard work. It also comes with a USB cable and a multichannel cable. I suggest following the manual for hooking everything up since it does point out a few things that is good to keep in mind. I don't have a fancy graphics card that will allow me to plug up the multichannel cable, so I used the USB cable. Once the USB cable was plugged into the computer, it installed its own drivers. I just had to make my headset the default for playback and recording and I was set.I tested out the sound by watching a video. One thing that should be noted is that the headset volume is dictated by the gain knob and the volume control on the headset. It is not controlled by the computer settings. I have not watched a movie or played a FPS yet with these headphones, but the sound quality is amazing even with videos that have stereo sound.I tested out the recording aspect of the built in microphone. The microphone doesn't give way to many positioning options, but the design is aesthetically pleasing. When configured correctly it minimizes clipping and background noise and it does well even at peak volumes. It records high quality stereo audio. So far I have only used this to record voice, which is what it seems to record best. I bought this headset primarily for recording. So far I'm not disappointed.I have not attempted to use this headset without the processor. I doubt this headset would yield the same results if it is plugged directly into the computer. The processor is what gives the sound its virtual surround effects. This device is also not meant to use both USB and the multichannel cable at the same time.For its current price ($82.84) this headset is a steal. It has a 90 day "Labor Warranty" and a year "Parts Warranty". Plus it comes with $20 Station Points so this is awesome if you use the Playstation Network. I don't own a PS3, but I am still in love with this headset. I can only hope this headset will stand the test of time... and my clumsiness and rough handling.

Sony DR-GA500 is definitely a gaming headset. I've had it for about 6 months now spending long hours playing Black Ops and Modern Warfare games. So far I can't complain about anything in the sound quality or the comfort of this headset.When you play FPS games it is very important to hear sounds coming from various directions. Sometimes a sound is all you can rely upon. This headset actually provides what it is designed for. I don't know exactly how Sony designed it, but it seems like I can hear sounds coming from every particular direction during the game. Of course, they are still just 360 degree sounds, i.e. you can not hear if something is above or below you. But, that's usually not a problem.The quality of the materials is very good. The headset doesn't feel solid, but in this case it's a benefit. The construction of the headset is very light. It provides a lot of ventilation to the ears. I used to have a Panasonic headset and my ears were always sweating. You can hear external sounds well also. This is NOT a noise cancelling headset! However, it is important to many of us to hear when your wife calls you in the middle of the night. Otherwise, it may become a BIG problem.So, overall, I recommend this headset for serious gamers.

first of all wow the hedset has a cool shiny texture comfortable foam and a wreally load speaker. the down side is that to take ur hedset to the 7.1 channel level u have to plug in some kind of a box that need to be plugged into the wall jack and also their is to much wires around u lol. im so sorry for the grammer and spelling just wanted to write it so fast.

Feel free to refer to the other reviews concerning weight, bass, etc. They pretty much have the right of it. I'm merely adding something I feel should be known: that is, my headphones lasted almost exactly a year. I'm not trying to suggest that every pair will quit on you after a year, but I will say that I was gentle with them and they still didn't last terribly long. This is just something to think about if you worry that your new pair of headphones won't last more than a year.

Very best of all ... excellent sound output, I am giving this rating after using 2 months..i feel better than Beats and other top brands.. it is excellent with Processer Box (7.1) very-good if you use only head-set.worth of your money, I buy it for 60$ from JR.com.

First Note: These are these are these are the Sony DR-GA200 headphones, what you are paying for is the large Dolby digital processing box.Make no mistake, this box is a fantastic device which requires no drivers. This is a great plus, sound quality is great, and is now used on my workstation. But this dolby box requires a USB connection and a dc power source. This is a light weight headset, microphone could use some improvements. Plastic construction has some quality concerns, but seems to hold up to abuse.I have gone through a few headsets in the past few months and do applaud Sony with the surround box, but being a mobile user, wanting to plug and go, this is not the product for a mobile warrior.For mobile users, I recommend using a pure USB digital 7.1 surround set like Plantronics Gamecon 780 headset at half the cost (~$80 at the time of this review) which I replaced my Sony DR-GA500 headset with.Because of sound quality and comfort, gave 4/5 stars. Would have given 5/5 stars if it did not require the power supply and external dolby box. (Plantronics Gamecon 780 has one USB connection for everything at half cost... recommended!!!!)

Sony makes good stuff. I've owned their headsets in the past -- leading me to purchase this one. It functions OK, and I use the break-out box for other purposes, but I get a headache after 30 minutes of audio editing because of its weight and pressure.

Pros:- very comfortable, i can wear these for hours and i have a big head and ears, it does make a difference how you wear then, i have to keep the band forward close to my forehead. they're also very light, you can barely feel them.- they are open air, so your ears will not sweat (it is winter, we'll see in the summer)- mids and highs are great, the best i've heard, too little bass but it's very clean, talking via vent sounds like people are there next to you, very good quality- they look very cool- don't have to use sound processor, you can plug in headphones directly to pcCons:- little bass.....there is a switch on the box that it comes with which is on FPS by default, this setting will remove any remaining bass and most mids so that you can hear foot steps easier, switching to surround mode will play all frequencies- There is occasional popping, no big deal, it may be something with my onboard soundcard or pc static related.- using EQ that comes with soundblaster causes bad static that makes them sound like they have broken speakers especially when bass plays, so you have to leave it off/flat- priceYou do need a decent sound card with 7.1 connections to get the surround sound. Now the surround itself is not all that great but i have to say that it's the best i've heard, the sounds behind you sound like they're coming from the bottom of your ear. I've had true 5.1 headphones before and i have to say that these are far better with surround effect and sound quality. You can plug in the headphones directly to the pc bypassing the sound processor box but i haven't tried that yet. I've listed to Sennheiser PC 350 which sound alot like these with the soundprocessor in FPS mode (highs only) i have to say that these are much better since you get an option of getting full sound reproduction. They're also a lot bigger than they look on the picture, the pads surrounding the center speaker will go around your ear and the center speaker will touch you ear but only front center of the ear so wearing then does not hurt at all.

I read other reviews about the lack of bass audio.It is true... if you don't hit the slide switch on the front of the unit that improves the sound.If you plug in the mini jacks directly into a phone or PC, you can't get any deep bass. But connect the jacks to the back of the enclosed black box, set the audio enhancer switch to surround and bingo! big bass, all the way down.I use this as a soft phone... works great... dims iTunes player as call starts or Windows 7 generates standard audio signals for incoming maail... etc. Great package.
