The PS Vita is a fantastic handheld: Sony has a tendency to always go hi-tech and all out when they release new hardware, and the Vita is no different. This particular console adds the ability to connect to mobile 3G networks using a SIM card (sold separately!). I'll be honest with you: with as much Wi-Fi as there is around me, and as much hassle as I get when it comes to trying to manage a mobile data plan, I'll probably never use the 3G feature: mine came as part of a bundle, with discount, that included an 8GB card I would otherwise have bought separately, so it made better economic sense. Whether you're dying for 3G or could care less, it makes sense to shop around Amazon for the various bundle deals: like me, you may find one that suits you. The rest of the PS Vita is as cutting-edge now as the PSP was when it was released. So what makes a PS Vita so special?CONTROLSEvery piece of the Vita has something to do with interaction: you not only have dual sticks, shoulder buttons, a D-Pad, the familiar four-button layout and Start/Select/Home, you also have really smooth gyroscopic and accelerometric sensors that let you tip, tilt, and roll the unit to play some games. The generous front screen is also a touch-screen with slick responsiveness that makes my smartphone jealous. The back has touch sensors that aren't just for fingertips--Uncharted: Golden Abyss has a jaw-dropping interactive moment where you hold the back of the PS Vita up to the light to 'read' a faded piece of parchment. Last, there are digital cameras on both the front and back for taking pictures and video. All of this can be saved to a memory stick, but the downside is that Sony has changed formats on us again: old Memory sticks are NOT compatible with the Vita. The newer storage system is proprietary to the PS Vita.SCREENThe screen is bigger than the PSP and about the same size as the top screen of the super-sized Nintendo 3DS XL. While it is as sensitive to direct sunlight as your average laptop, it does boast a bright screen in just about any other lighting condition. Just like the PSP and PS3, there is a menu bar that lets you customize all sorts of settings including brightness and power-saving modes. Touching the front screen is very smooth, with complicated gestures easily translated by games.FEATURESIn addition to gameplay, the PS Vita offers the same kinds of multimedia features as the PSP: music and video streaming, including Netflix (which works very well over Wi-Fi). There is a feature called "Near" that will tell you what friends near to you might be playing, or let you look for a new friend nearby with the same game interests. GPS is also built in as part of the unit and you can use it to navigate if you wish. I haven't really used this or the 'LiveArea' that lets you share your gaming details with other people, or the IM feature that lets you message people. I've been more inclined to use my PlayStation Network / PlayStation Store account to pull down games, including my PSP and PSOne favorites, and play them on a larger, brighter screen. One of the neat things about the interface is the 'peel off' way it's organized: the home screen has round 'bubble' icons that you can tap to access an application. Each application has a base page that organizes the basic things you might do, such as 'read the manual', 'check for updates', or the most-often-used, 'launch the game' and its corner sticks up like a curled piece of paper. If you're in-game and press the home button, the game is suspended and you're dropped back to this screen. Closing the home screen is as simple as using your finger to peel that corner down, like turning the page of a book: the application is closed and you are back at the 'bubble' icon home screen. The PS Vita has a built-in browser, and mostly I use it for accessing features off the base page, such as 'Help' or 'Support'.The way accessories are designed now follows the 'USB cable' design: your PS Vita will have a charger plug, a tiny power box it plugs into, and from there a USB cable leads from the charger to the PS Vita. The connector on the Vita is also proprietary, and that means that whether you're using an AC adapter, a car charger, or just connecting to a computer, you can't do it without that proprietary connector-to-USB cable. If there's a drawback to the PS Vita, it's that the high price sticker reminds us that this isn't a kids' console. The unit is large and unwieldy. It feels fragile and because it's expensive one of the first things you'll want to do is pick up a good protective case for it. You won't be able to stick it in the average pocket and you'll definitely not want to leave expensive hardware like this lying around or it'll grow legs. If you have the money though you won't be disappointed in this hi-tech handheld: it is top-drawer gaming technology at its best.

This review will address the AT&T bonus bundle which includes one 8GB memory card ($30), a DD code for Super Stardust ($10 PSN game) and a 250MB 3G network data packet ($15), which should be available through the end of this month. The review on the actual PSV hardware itself will follow. As many have already mentioned, the promo items (PSN game and data packet) are only redeemable AFTER paying for the initial data packet, so anyone who thinks they're getting their first month free and will be downloading Super Stardust shortly after charging up their PSV for the first time will probably be upset, and not unreasonably so as the conditions for redeeming the promo items are not mentioned on the box itself. It's also a little underhanded to make users wait a month after using their first month of 3G service before they receive their game download code, but free is free I suppose and it is only a $10 DD game to begin with.On the flip side, if anyone is actually buying a 3G model with the intention of NEVER paying for even one month/data packet, one almost has to question the intelligence of buying this model when the WiFi model is $50 less. At any rate, $15 isn't much for a two month (limited given the 250MB data cap) trial run of the service. As for the 3G service itself, after one week of using it, about the only function it currently serves is for Near updates (PSV social app that shows who's playing what on the PSV in your proximity) and web browsing on the PSV's browser when outside of a WiFi network. It is very limited as of this writing and subjectively not worth subscribing to with the assumption that the PSV owner already has a smartphone with a data plan. If the PSV is your only way of accessing a 3G network when cut off from WiFi, it still beats running around for a WiFi hotspot.Lastly, the bundle comes with a 8GB memory card that currently retails for $30. It is easily the best added value component of the bundle and even if one were to ignore the data packet/PSN game, it's only $20 over the cost of a $250 WiFi PSV when purchased with a $30 memory card. Seeing as how very little information has been put out regarding future uses for 3G and the PSV, $20 is nothing to add that feature on the chance that the service becomes worth renewing down the road. There are no service contracts. As for the PSV itself, after two weeks of initial impressions, it is easily the most enjoyable handheld gaming device I have used running all the back to the original Gameboy and before with Nintendo Game and Watch games and Mattel Electronic Sports games, etc. The last two handhelds I've used extensively have been the PSP and the 3DS for recent comparisons. The 5" OLED display is the first noticeable feature, with its ink like blacks, high contrast, relatively tight pixel density and even light distribution due to the self illuminating OLED pixels.Build, fit and finish feels balanced and substantial. Face buttons and D-pad have a very satisfying click feedback that feels precise and responsive. The D-pad in particular, as the first deviation from the familiar Playstation 4 arrow button cross design is the best feeling D-pad I can remember using. The face buttons are smaller than those of the PSP and slightly larger than those of the 3DS. The X button proximity to the right analog stick has been mentioned as a potential issue, presumably for those who press with the heel of the thumb ("rolling") rather than the tip of the thumb (precise).Following the OLED display, the second most prominent feature is the twin analog sticks, a first for handhelds. Unlike the sliding disk design used by the PSP and again by the 3DS, the PSV uses actual mini analog sticks with the same single axis rocking action everyone who has used an analog stick controller is familiar with. The feedback is a bit tighter than that of the DS3 with less travel due to the short throw axis which basically means more precise input is both possible and required for games without aim assist or loose controls. The size will probably take some getting used to for most, but for anyone who managed to adapt to the barely usable slider disk of the PSP, the analog sticks should be a snap to use.The size of the PSV is another oft noted design issue, which is partially to accomodate the 5" screen in addition to the real estate taken by the face buttons, analog sticks and D-pad. Yes, the bezel could be thinner, but the controls themselves really can't be spaced much closer without causing more issues than solving. "Not pocket-sized" is another oft made comment regarding the size although it will easily slip into the back jeans pocket of just about any pair of jeans with at least a 30" inseam that aren't cut or worn like jeggings. I just don't know who would actually want to carry something like the PSV in their back pocket without some sort of case, slip cover, etc. to prevent scratches or other damage. On the plus side, the PSV should fit average to large size hands very co

So I managed to get my hands on a Vita (3G/WiFi version) shortly after launch, and I also got a 16GB memory card along with Uncharted: Golden Abyss and Wipeout 2048 (Thank you Sony, I love you too).So what do I think after a week of ownership? Well quite honestly, I couldn't be happier with this marvel of portable gaming. So why, oh why, do I love my Vita so much?Well let's break it down a little so I can explain how I feel about this wonderful machine.*I have not activated any 3G services yet (I just haven't had the need). I just wanted to put that out there before I get started.Hardware.The Vita is much lighter than I expected but still feels very robust. It fits comfortably in the hands with a couple of matte grip areas on the back to rest your fingertips on. A quad-core processor and quad-core graphics processor power the impressive graphics, which show up wonderfully on the 5-inch display, which is the best looking handheld gaming display I've ever seen. Everything looks good on the Vita, games, movies (streamed from Netflix), and photos. Even the operating system is amazing to look at. There are left and right shoulder buttons, a PlayStation button, and Start and Select buttons. The Start and Select buttons are really small and not particularly easy to hit, but as you rarely use them whilst playing, I don't think it's going to be an issue. On top of the Vita are the power and volume buttons, along with the slot for game cards and a proprietary port of some sort (can't find any info on what this is for). The bottom of the Vita houses the headphone socket, a microphone, USB charging and communication connection, and a slot for the memory card. The memory cards are proprietary to Sony but look a lot like micro SD cards. There are two cameras built into the Vita, one front and one rear facing. They work great for the augmented reality games and some of the other game demos I've tried, but they're not going to take the place of your digital camera or even your smartphone camera anytime soon.Controls.First thing that you'll notice is that it looks just like any other piece of Sony gaming hardware. The screen is flanked by two analog thumb sticks, then above those are the classic PlayStation buttons on the right and a D-pad on the left. Both the buttons and D-pad feel smaller than the ones I remember on the PSP. The most impressive thing of course is that finally someone has made a portable system with dual analog sticks, hooray! Next be prepared to be blown away, not only is the gorgeous display a touch screen, but the back of the handheld is a touchpad too. When I first got the Vita my initial reaction was that the analog controls where a little 'twitchy' but I have to say that after a week, I've gotten used to them. Both the placement and responsiveness took me a few days to get the hang of, but also remember I haven't had a portable system for the last 6 months since my first generation PSP went kaput recently. The touch screen is ultra responsive and my only complaint is that it suffers from the same thing all touch screens do . . . . oily fingerprint smears.Display.I really haven't paid too much attention to OLED screens in general. I'm more than happy with my LED TV so didn't really pursue OLEDS very much. I know they're supposed to be better than LCD with greater clarity and brighter colors. Well all I can say is that 'they' are not wrong, the 5" OLED screen is amazing with awesome depth and color. It's definitely the most vivid screen I've seen, and I've yet to see any problems with screen tearing or pixilation when watching movies or playing games.Graphics.Gorgeous is the first word that comes to mind. I really can't tell you what the resolution is, because I haven't bothered to look it up, but I can tell you it looks just like my PlayStation 3, just on a smaller scale. I dare you to look at the screen and not be impressed!Extras.Playstation Vita does more than just play games. Here are some of the highlights included in the operating system:Google Maps is included in the operating system, which works exactly as you'd expect if you've ever used it on a smartphone or tablet. The GPS seemed pretty accurate, but I don't see this being used much. I just can't imagine too many scenarios where it would be easier to pull out your Vita than your smartphone, maybe it would useful for people without smartphones though?Web Browser. Yes there's a web browser, yes it's better than the PlayStation 3 one, but you're only likely to use it for quickly looking something up as it's still pretty mediocre by today's standards.Apps. There are currently apps for Twitter, Facebook, Foursquare, and Netflix. More apps have been promised in the future. Netflix works flawlessly and has a very similar interface to the PlayStation 3 app. I'm hoping for a Skype app next.Near is the app which adds a social aspect to the device by showing you nearby Vita users, what they're playing and what trophies they've won etc. There's also a wa

I've waited quite a while for this thing and I'm not even remotely disappointed; quite the contrary, I'm willing to overlook this thing's flaws and view it as the best game hardware to date.In terms of power, the thing is pretty much a PS3-lite. The analog sticks felt a little wobbly at first, now that I'm used to them I wouldn't have them any other way- I'm sure they're made that way to last long inside of pockets. The d-pad, on the other hand, is the single most comfortable and responsive d-pad I've ever used; if only I had gotten Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom to play with the d-pad in depth for hundreds of hours. The face buttons feel nice and responsive, they aren't hard on your thumbs after a long play session like the PSP's, plus they won't scratch anywhere near as easily. The 5-inch qHD OLED screen is amazing, so much more rich and vibrant than my $200 1080p monitor. The launch lineup is the best of any other game system in history, 26 games and around half are good enough for quality-spoiled, rich-tastes me. Multi-tasking with the Vita is so much more slick than you'd expect, it feels just magical. The UI didn't look all that nice in previews, but now that I have the thing in my hands I think it has the best UI of any handheld I've ever played by a mile- it's so entertaining to just flick stuff around and close programs by turning a page and multi-tasking is better than I ever would've imagined. This is also my first proper game system that gets achievements or trophies(besides my PC), and I have to say it really augments the experience in a positive way in each launch title I have, rewarding me for trying out all of a game's features and really sticking to my games; that's a subject for a different time, but I will say that synching trophies is fast and easy and that getting the trophy popups are even more rewarding than when they pop up on Steam. As I said in the title to this review, the Vita does have some notable flaws worth mentioning. From what I can tell you can't switch PSN accounts without a second memory card, that's a real killer for people like me who have two accounts loaded with games. Oh, speaking of memory cards, they're extremely expensive. Luckily if you only plan on buying games at retail you can't go wrong with an 8 or 16 GB memory card(included in this bundle is an 8 GB card, luckily, so there's nothing to worry about at the start). I was able to fit a few game demos, a few downloadable titles, some updates and some PSN videos onto my Vita and still had enough room for both seasons of Spectacular Spider-Man and some music- clearly I'm not hurting for space just yet. The web browser is fine for looking up game guides and things like that but apparently you can't yet look at Youtube videos or anything like that; as long as it eventually hits the Vita I'm fine, but it won't quite replace my PC as a complete entertainment hub any time soon. It totally sucks that you can't use the web browser while your game is minimized, but apparently Sony's working on an update to allow that so I guess I can wait a while to use online guides while in-game. Also, this is just exclusive to this bundle but apparently I have to wait for Super Stardust Delta to get it for free from AT&T and can't just buy it now and give the code to a friend, this means I have to wait on the only downloadable game at launch I absolutely must have. :

I will try to be as unbiased as possible. What I mean by that is that I have a bad habit of comparing products to much better products or technologies. I will instead try to judge this as a seperate system as if I knew of nothing else.First I want to say that the launch bundle was very misleading. In big print, you get a free memory card, a free game, and 1 month of 3g free. In small print you do get that memory card :-) but you don't get the free game until 30 days after activating your paid version (out of pocket) of 3g. Further, what isn't written (and I had to google search it) your free game is not a game of your choice. It is instead some throw away game called Super Stardust Delta. Why say "a free game" when you really mean "Super Stardust Delta that I'm cramming down your throat." Be explicit with your promotions, no beating around the bush please. So my "55 dollar value" isn't a 55 dollar value in my eyes. I would have rather bought a wifi version and just pay for the memory card and skip on the (as of today) useless 3g and "Super Stardust Delta" craptacular give away instead of paying 55 dollars for a 8gb memory card (the only useful bundled item).Ok, I got that off my chest. Now how about I start from turning the thing on. Pretty clean startup and setup programming. I fell in love with the touch screen (and out of love) rather quickly. I do wish you can use the directional pad for menus but it's no big deal. I updated the system which was rather fast so that's a plus. My PSN sign in worked flawlessly. I signed up for the 3g 250 MB package. But after using it for 24 hours I have yet to even use 1 byte on the 3g network. It is a pretty useless feature. They claim you can play games but none i have played support it and as far as texting and internet, well my phone does that. After finding out that I don't get to choose my own "free" game, I bought Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 which is the only Vita game I wanted (not including the upcoming FFX). The gameplay is nice and the wifi online gameplay is just as fluid (if not more fluid) than the PS3 version. I haven't tried the crossplay feature but considering the remote play is a flop, I don't expect much from crossplay.Graphics: The graphics are decent when compared to PS3 and less than decent when compared to a PC but when compared to any other portable system they are the best out there (not counting laptops or notebooks). I played the demo of Unit 13, Rayman, and Unchartered. Rayman's graphics were well done and tried to use the best qualities of the system, Unchartered looked bad IMO and looked like a pre Half Life 2 game (like a PC game from 2003 on back). The shadows were blocky and there are still jaggies after all these years. If you know you're not capable of doing something like smooth shadows then use simple shadows but checkerboard shadows look cheap and lazy. Don't expect RE5 (PS3) graphics but they're decent. MVC3 looks awesome BTW.Sound: Awesome sound quality. Kind of sounds like it is surround (virtual maybe).Failed claims: Though some of these were made aware a couple weeks before launch, it still a failed claim that Sony claimed the system would do: 1.) Full PSP game support - they copped out of the UMD support for EU and USA but Japan has UMD support. 2.) PS3 games can be played remotely - The remote play is no different than the PSP version. It sucked then and it sucks now. You can only play PS1 games remotely (and in bad resolution/no full screen) and a handful of crap games that no one cares about. 3.) PS1 games can be played - only remotely, you can't install them on the system. My main reason for buying this system was the remote play feature that they marketed very well. The ability to play games on your PS3 from your Vita, ANYWHERE! Awesome idea huh? I had dreams of playing Marvel vs. Capcom 2, Batman AC, RE5, and countless other games on the go, at school, and maybe even the gym or somehthing. That dream was crushed when I opened it and found that it is not supported. There are some youtube videos of some people that have hacked their PS3 and were able to do it so I don't understand why Sony won't let us do it... I'm hopeful that Sony will improve this thing and at least get the remote play working right. If that would happen, I would give this 5 stars and probably wouldn't mind paying 500 dollars for a Vita but as is, wait until the price goes down (Sony claims this will be happening very soon!).

The Crystal White 3G/Wifi version was only released in 2 territories. Japan and Asian (specifically Taiwan). All PS Vita consoles are region free meaning you can select the language at system setup and all region games play on your system. US games (English) work on Japanese/Taiwan/UK systems, and vice versa.
I got the White OLED model for the color since the US only has Black as it's primary console choice, and because of the superb OLED display.

The PS Vita is an investment. Like Sony did with the PSP: they promise features down the long run. Right now, Facebook is missing. Call of Duty has been announced for Fall, and supporters like Bioshock and the MGS Collection are coming. That said, the PSP2 or Vita as it's called is an excellent gaming device. The 3G/Wi-fi version comes with an 8GB memory stick, which was surprising because everyone said that the memory stick was another investment that you had to purchase. Not this one. While I'd rate the 8GB "Standard", I'd rate the 16Gb "Excellent", and the 32Gb "Awesome!", while the 4GB stands at below standard with "Poor."The 3G comes with a free download of a PSN game (unannounced at this time) but only after you sign up with AT&T for a full 30 days. A month later, you will get your free download. Plus, Sony is willing to pay for your second month of At&T service. I've checked them out and it's $15 for 256MB of data downloads, or $30 for 3Gb of download speeds. Unlike most mobile carriers who slow down your data speeds, or halt it completely, going over your data amount means you have to pay an extra $0.01 (1 cent) per KiloByte (KB) used. That's a bit risky to me, but the option is there, and the price isn't "that bad..."The games are a different scenario... While you can buy relatively cheaper games from the PSN store (rather than a retail store) you are sacrificing money to fill up your memory card space, for money you will have to invest in later for a larger memory stick. Keep in mind that you can only have 1 memory stick per Vita, as it is linked to your PSN account. That means you cannot swap memory sticks back and forth without losing some sort of data. (I don't know -- this is weird to me.)The PS Vita is definately a machine trying to combat piracy. The PSP was hacked to death by swapping batteries and memory sticks to get it to hack correctly. As Sony discovered this, I'm pretty sure this is why the PS Vita has a un-removeable battery (yes, if your battery dies completely prepare to buy another Vita.) and the memory stick tethered to one PSN account means you can't share your downloads with other player or other Vitas, even if you have two... This is all Sony trying to combat piracy and make the early adopter pay as much as possible (to make up for their 2 billion dollar loss, no less...) However, there is hope...As the Vita becomes standard and a price drop in place, it could take off as was promised by Sony with the PSP. (They never got the rear-view camera to work with Gran Turismo; or did they?) and yes, the features of "apps" make their appearance, but it's all controlled by Sony whether or not they want to release them to the public. If you buy this machine, you have to play by Sony's rules. It's kind of like a playground where a monitor is telling you what you can and can't do. Interesting, but still convoluted. In any case, as it stands the PS Vita is an excellent machine. Given time, and the release of Call of Duty no-less, the Vita could take off as the gamer's choice of handheld. Having held it, played it, and tested it, this machine acts more like a brand new console than it does a portable cousin to the PS3. It really is an interesting and entertaining device, just prepare to empty your wallet if you want to protect your investment. (See accessories...)I give the PS Vita a 5 out of 5 for doing what everyone wanted to do in the first place with the PSP: Dual analog sticks, touch-screen, and beautifully decorated. Durability is excellent (don't drop it -- see accessories to protect that...) The price right now is what's killing early-adopters decision. No doubt, Sony is relying on hardcore early adopters to spend their money for the retail price before they drop it to pertain to the masses of people who really want to get their hands on it. Time will tell how this device will sell, and handle.Great price (though, not for everyone), great features, and great games, so far...5 out of 5. Thanks you!

I think the PS Vita is worth every penny. I got the 3G version just in case I wanted the feature later on. The AT&T 3G service can be prepaid monthly, so it's not as big of a deal as a phone contract. I was given the option to buy 250MB ($15) 2gb ($25) or 5GB ($50) per month. 250MB would probably cover you, unless you're on the road all the time and are using the browser and GPS functions regularly. For example, a 5 miles trip through the city used 7MB of data with Satellite+Road view on (it uses Google Maps data).First off, the OLED screen on the Vita is amazing. I think it's on par with my Dell U2711 IPS monitor as far as color reproduction. At the same time, the black to white contrast is insane. I've never seen a screen go as dark as the one on the Vita and still be active. There's very little color shift when you view the screen at an angle (similar to an IPS display). The screen has a simple gloss finish, so outside viewing can be troublesome, but you can probably help that with a textured screen protector like Zagg sells. The controls are very good. They work well and fit my hands properly. My only gripe is the rear touchpad. You can end of touching it accidentally if you tap you fingers on it. Some games don't use it at all, but when playing ones that do, you have to be mindful of it. Also the sticks are analog, so you can do pressure-sensitive tasks with them, but the X, O, /\, [], are not pressure sensitive like they are on the PS3 dual-shock controller. The Vita weighs a little over 1 lb., and I haven't noticed it becoming too heavy in my hands while holding it for any length of time.Battery life is good. It'll last all day with intermittent play, and you could probably get 5 solid hours of play before you have to recharge. I'd guess the standby time is about 72 hours. There's a lot of features, but the ones I like the most are the newer Maps application and the PS3 remote play feature. On maps (assuming you have 3G), you can use it like a GPS without voice instructions. It's about the same as the navigators on a normal smart-phone, but it is nice to have on a 5" screen. Remote play, as it is now, lets you control the basic functions of the PS3 and watch videos and download/upload files to the PS3 wirelessly (you don't even need to use your WiFi network for it to work.) Most games don't work on Remote play, but a handful do, which makes me think future updates to the PS3 and the Vita will allow more games to work properly. The game selection for the Vita right now is pretty sparse. I bought "Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus" and "Super Stardust Delta" and both are good games with good graphics, and use most of the Vita's features. I would like to see more titles come out, and there are several more set for release before the end of Q2 2012. I just hope for something like Armored Core or Gran Turismo eventually. One goof feature is you can download demos for most games straight to the Vita, and try them before you buy. All the demos I've downloaded are less than 1GB, so on my 8GB (7.6GB realized) memory card, I still have plenty of space. The social features for the Vita are very good. It leverages the PSN friend network and adds in "Near" so you can see people who have Vita consoles near you. I've already added several people to my friend's list using Near, so there's a pool of people I can invite to multiplayer games later on. You can see what games/application people are using on Near, and then ask them questions or send general text messages to people using the message utility. I think the social features work well and will help make the Vita a better gaming device.Overall, I'm very pleased with the Vita. More games will make it even better. I can tell Sony focused on making it a portable gaming machine. It has added in features and abilities, but first and foremost, it is for playing games.

With the 3G launch, get ready for overwhelming ATT website access issues! Here's the problems and their fixes:1. When you first power up, the getting started screens will take you through the normal language, location, time etc. stuff. DO NOT sign up for ATT 3G in this initial setup! Decline and click "sign up later." If you don't, you'll go to the overwhelmed ATT website, and suddenly your input will start delaying, then, the screen will freeze with black or blue death.Fix: The blue-glowing playstation button is a combined escape and control-alt-delete. If it doesn't clear the freeze, hold the power button for 5 seconds, wait a second or two, then hold it again for 5 seconds and you'll get the setup screen again. This time DON'T sign up for ATT OR the PS3 network. Finish the setup, DO NOT opt into the PS3 network at this stage (Sony has now changed the name of this network to SEN for smart TV's, but Vita still calls it both) until setup is complete. Once you complete setup, you can go back and opt into ATT (at 14 bucks a month for 250 m) AND sign up for SEN/ PS3 online.2. Once you get ATT, beware of unplugging wifi.Fix: Even if you acquired and activated wifi at setup, once you activate ATT, Vita will default to 3G even if you're hot on wifi, kicking your setup wifi off. You have to go back into settings and reacquire wifi. DO THIS right away or you'll be charged by ATT even for setting up PS3 SEN!3. Missing handshake numbers (IMEI and ICCID).Fix: If you blow the first attempt to activate on ATT's overwhelmed website, try it a 3am on a weekday, not 11 am on a Saturday! Also, if you blow the first attempt, on the second, the auto fill for your device sometimes won't work, and ATT won't recognize the device because the two long ID's will be missing. In the background, ATT actually checks your location and assigns you a ghost phone number. That's right, your Vita will get it's own number, but until Verizon gets into the act, I doubt that we'll be able to do any phone activities other than on Skype! ATT WILL email the heck out of you, including giving you the ghost number you can't use.Did you save the box? Numbers not there! Don't despair! Go to settings, system, then system information. The last two numbers (IMEI and ICCID) are stored in your device. These are the two numbers you need to activate the service on ATTs website.4. PS3 Net.Just like Facebook, SEN won't accept email addresses that aren't common extensions. So, if your email is Contact@JaneDoe.com, they will first accept it, then kick you off at the end of the tedious number by number input on the little Vita screen. Too bad ATT/Sony didn't include a direct web signup for your PC, but because of device recognition, you have to do it initially through the Vita, unless you already have a PS3 account from another Sony device.Fix: Just get JaneDoe@gmail.com (or Yahoo, your cable, etc.). Mac users: Sony WILL accept me.com addresses. That's it for now. I don't have to tell you this is an incredible machine, I own them all to develop elearning products for every platform, and this smokes any other handheld, including the ipad and galaxy 10.1 in real arcade like action. BTW, are there any arcades left, or am I dating myself???;=) Please vote this helpful if you liked, if not, let me know how we can improve. Also, ask a question and we'll post an answer if you have any other difficulties, and see the first launch bundle for other answers in our review and discussions there.

A white 3G+wifi PS Vita, it's everything you want that you can't get here in North America :). This is the PCH 1106 mode, which I believe comes from Hong Kong.
The only downside is the Wipeout 2048 + Katamari game download code that comes with it expired January 2013, so you lose out on the promo game that comes with this.

I recently got two 32gb Playstation Vita memory cards. One was to be used for games and applications, while the other was going to be used to store music. My MP3 player is no longer functional, and seeing as the Vita is a multimedia system, I was excited to have a "one-stop shop" for my gaming, music and more. However, I was surprised to be stopped while importing music to my Vita by the following error message: "Cannot copy. The maximum number of content items you can save in [Music] will be exceeded." At this point I had 8gb of memory free on my 32gb memory stick. This limitation was never mentioned on any of the packaging for the memory sticks or the system, and I had to delve deep into your support center for even a mention of this arbitrary limitation.I've already spoken to two Sony customer service representatives: one on the phone, and one through your online chat system. The first person I spoke to said (in so many words) that I was out of luck. If there's a limit, there's a limit and there's nothing that can be done about it. I asked why there is a limit in the first place, and she gave no answer. The second person told me that there was no song limit on the Playstation Vita. When I corrected her, she recommended reformatting the memory stick and re-importing all of the songs. Barring that, nothing else could be done. I asked again why there is a limit, and she was unwilling to find the answer. She actually told me to purchase another memory stick so I could import the rest of my music. When I told her how ridiculous this idea was, especially since I spent the extra $40 on a 32gb stick (instead of a 16gb) so I wouldn't have to do that in the first place, she referred me to the "Share" Playstation Blog website. With its 200 character limit on customer submissions, this was insufficient for a legitimate complaint. If you're planning on purchasing a Vita for its multimedia capabilities, BEWARE! There are currently arbitrary handicaps on basic functions of the system.

I had to go through a few before I recieved one without the all too common verticle line mura, which, after some research, appears to afflict roughly half the vita pool. The verticle lines cover the entire screen, are most visible on browns and greys, and gives the picture an almost intentional brushed metal effect. It doesnt bother everyone, but I couldnt accept it. It mostly bothered me during screen panning while playing games such as little deviants, escape plan, and hot shots golf. All six units I have now personally seen have the black splotching mura, which can be seen on a black or nearly black screen. Normally, it only bothers me when im playing in the dark, however. After much research I have concluded that all units suffer from this, but the severity varies widely, from nearly non-existent to most of the screen, an everything in between. The final screen imperfection I will mention is the least problematic, and the least surprising as I have yet to see any display that is perfect in this regard. Im talking about motion blur. Dont be alarmed. Its very mild, but every unit I have checked displays the same degree of blur, so it is a reality. Obviously, its a HUGE improvement over the psp. If you havent been playing on a superior screen recently, and you have been playing on your vita regularly, you will get used to it and the vita screen will look awesome. However, if i play tales from space about a blob onmy ps3 and panasonic st30 plasma for 15 minutes, then immediately play tales from space attack of mutant blob on vita, it becomes quite obvious that the vita has more visible blur @1.5" than the tv @6'. That being said, it is still very mild. After reading about the superior response time of the new oled tech, I did expect the least motion blur Ive ever seen. This is not the case. Perhaps oled tech is capable of this, time will tell. Now that is all out of the way .. hehe ..The picture quality is rich, vibrant, crisp, and plain fantastic. This is true for both games and video. The device itself feels very solid in your hands and is not too heavy either. The front glass is very tough, but the back will pick up scratches, so i recommend a film protector for the back at least. The shoulder button also are sensitive to scratching so be careful which surfaces you allow contact with.Battery life and charge time are both fairly good. The battery actually grows in life span over the first several use/charge cycles in my experience. As far as gaming, I have found controls very responsive for the most part.

PlayStation Vita 3G/Wi-Fi BundleContains the usual cool games some crossover compatible with PS3..But add in the Internet access, Netflix, music, movies, photos, music unlimited, content manager to share with PC or MAC, customizable homescreen and additional game screens, bluetooth compatibilty, multiplayer w/ microphone to communitcate with ur allies/teammates...I could go on and on. Unfortunately they gotta get ya somehow and steal ur money, which they successfully do by requiring memory cards to practically do anything(which of course costs an arm and a leg. the highest memory card which is only 32GB PlayStation Vita Memory Card32Gs is close to $100! And of course the card they give you with the already $300+ system is only 8GB PlayStation Vita Memory Card8G. I filled that up the first night I bought the Vita. So being that I'm not rich I had to delete a ton until I can someday afford the higher memory cards. Unit 13Unit 13 was my first game...AWESOME!. Mortal KombatMortal Kombat was my second, also pretty awesome. Third game I just ordered wasSupremacy MMA MMA Supremacy;Unrestricted and cant wait. I am not a gamer at all but the Vita is perfect, it has a little bit for everyone(including movie rentals) It is great for people like me who travel nonstop and have lots of down time in between gigs and nothing to do. So chillin in the hotel room isnt so bad anymore especially when there's no chicks lol...Vita ALMOST makes you forget about girls for a few minutes... Ok not comparable to female companionship but its not bad for the second best option...INSTANT CURE TO BOREDOM...PS VITA its cool = BUy IT!! I recommend the extended warrenty as well as a well cushioned case, one thats tough on the out side that can take a beatingHORI PS Vita Hard Case (Black)orCTA Digital PS Vita Travel EVA Protective Case,Thrustmaster VG S.P.F. Case for PlayStation Vita. There are plenty on the market so find which one works for you just as long as you protect it cause I'd hate to drop one unprotected...I almost guarentee it would be a disaster. The Vitas graphics are amazing for a handheld. The rear touchpad works great on games that do it right. Also the gorgeous 5 inch touchscreen has to be seen to be believed. This is a handheld to last. The system itself is well worth it (see below for info on 3G vs WiFi) and it does best what it was built for, and that is to play games. The dual analog sticks show this is how games were meant to be played always! It's really cool to be able to pause a game right where you are at and then go to a different app or two. One of the coolest features is holding down the PS button and pressing Start at the same time, this let's you take a screenshot of the game, including cutscenes! The pictures then get saved to your photos. The touchscreen is silky smooth too. It's very responsive. Some downsides are the constant alternating between WiFi and 3G which is a little bit of a pain but not too noticeable. Also the lack of its ability to play PS1 games and not being able to play all PSP games from the PSN store is a letdown. Of course these are all fixable in the future. As far as features like Near and other social media apps, I personally didn't care for them. Near is very confusing to use. I wouldn't have bought the 3G version if it wasnt the launch bundle that came with the free 8gb card and free month of 3G with a PSN game. Although you have to first pay for a month of 3G from AT&T before you get the free month or free PSN game. Not to mention that it's confusing and I still can't tell if I redeemed it right. If you aren't getting the launch bundle or want a bigger memory card, then I recommend the WiFi only version. The social media apps and trophies are the only thing 3G currently supports as far as I can tell. You can't even do system updates over 3G.Which brings me to my final point, when you first get the system, regardless of getting the 3G version and signing up with AT&T from the start, you have to do a system update before it will let you link your PSN account. Since system updates can only be done over WiFi you have to be at a WiFi spot to do the update. This was a little disappointing since I was not at a WiFi spot when I got the item in.But even with those things aside, the Vita really shines at games. If you are a handheld fan, especially a Sony Playstation fan, the Vita is for you.

I was skeptical of purchasing a new hand held after the 3DS flop. I was concerned that the touch screen was a gimmick and that cell phones dominate the hand held market. I was wrong! I own a PSP3000 and never thought I would need, let alone crave, a new device. The Vita makes that happen. It has some minor flaws, but after a few weeks of use, I highly recommend this device.TOUCH SCREEN:The jury is still out a bit on this one. I've only played one game so far containing a use for both the front and back touch screens and it feels crammed into the game rather than the organic experience we hope for. However, that it just a lack of good games using this feature effectively at launch. Overall, the touch screens are responsive, accurate and fun to use.DISPLAYThis is where the VITA really shines. Colors jump out at you and everything is crisp and clear. It's like getting your first HDTV after watching nothing but SD.CONTROLSFinally! We have dual joysticks. Oh wait, they're the size of thumb tacks. Yes, the buttons are really small. In fact, the start and select buttons are so small I have to sometimes use my thumb nail to depress them. It hasn't affected my game play too much yet, but time will tell. It's my only gripe with this system. They made everything bigger, at the expense of controls. At least it is just as portable as the PSP. It may be bigger, but it feels lighter and easier to carry.FEATURESThe system has a lot of neat pre-installed features. My favorite is Near, which lets you connect with other VITA users. You can play games, trade in-game items or just brag about stats. It's pretty darn cool. It also has Netflix available as well. The number of apps at launch was limited, but it will grow over time.GAMESI can't comment too much yet on this as I only purchased Uncharted for the Vita. I can say that it looks really good and has a blast to play. PSP games downloaded from the PS store all work on the VITA. I have 8 games on there now that work fine, from FF IV to Metal Gear.Overall, I recommend purchasing this is you have some spare cash....and plenty of spare time!

The PS-Vita is another of Sony's great gaming revolutions. The handheld console closes the gap between the psp and ps3. The graphic power is amazing ( I highly reccommend Uncharted: Golden AbyssThis game illustrates the PS Vita's technical power) The Sreen is beautiful, big and colorful. The Organic LED screen provides the HD in the palm of your hands. THe Best thing about the PS VIta are the two analog sticks. They are soft and smooth. They are nothing like the anolog stick of the PSP which is a relief. The PS Vita may lack some good games, but just wait it out. It' been on the market for about 5 months, however; if your a big Sony fan or Playstation fanatic, the PS Vita is a must buy. It really is marketed towards those who have PS3s. THe playstion store intergration is nice, as everything can be purchased from there. Even every released game as digital format usaully $5-$8 off from the game card copy. I havent set up the 3g function yet so i can comment, i liked the 3g bundle since it came with the 8g memory card and the option of using 3g for about $35 dollars more than the Wifi. It seemed wise to get the best one for a small addition. Thanks Amazon for your price cutting. Thr battery life is good to, no moving parts as everything is flash based, however the screen brightness, wifi and im sure 3g will decrease battery life. but you should get a solid 6-7 hours of game play. In all, the PS Vita is true gaming inovation bringing something new to handheld gaming. It does try to compete with smartphone apps, but at the heart it is a excellent gaming device.

Vita is such a wonderful hardware, plus it already has most number of games for new launch console. Plus the movies and music via the Playstation Store, Netflix, etc. Other reviewers already talked about how great the Vita is, let me point out other aspects of the Vita.-Memory : People complain that the memory cards are expense. Yes it is. But Apple charges $100 more if want to step up from 16GB to 32GB iPad. Besides, Vita bundles include 8GB memory cards(which is what most people need anyway), also the price of 32GB Vita memory card is coming down.-Price : Some people say the Vita is a bit expensive. But think about all the cutting edge technology in the Vita with OLED screen and Quad Core processor just to mention a few. A similar smart phone or iPhone would be $500 to $700 if you got it without a contract from major wireless carriers. If you get a smartphone with service contract, you spend hundreds of dollars over a year.-Real games : People say portable gaming consoles are dying because of smart phones and tablets. You can't really play games on these devices with touch screens and gyro sensors, you need controllers like the Vita to really play the games unless you want to play only Angry Birds.-Fast web browser : By the way, did you know the Vita has a web browser? It is much better than the PSP's broswer which used to be slow and ran out of memory. The Vita's browser is faster(thanks to fast processor) and plenty of memory, it really is a usable web browser.-Great selection of movies, music, content : Besides gaming, the Vita has old and latest movies and TV shows (to buy and rent) and any music you want to listen. Music Unlimited is surprising good, you can listen to any music, old and new, for $10 a month.I really enjoy using the Vita, I highly recommend it.

Other people have written great reviews on what comes in the box, etc, etc so I don't need to add to that; however the following info has been left out so far.I just got this bundle at the house for my son and overall we are VERY happy with the bundle and the extras...EXCEPT for the "free Data Plan". This is a little misleading but it is not Amazon's fault, it is Playstation's (or maybe AT&T). The plan is more of a "buy one get one free" instead of being a free plan overall. You FIRST need to pay for one full month's service of an ATT plan and you will THEN get a "coupon code" to be used for another months service, yet there is still a small catch the free service is only for the cheapest and smallest data plan, the 250MB plan. You also must use the coupon within 90 days of first activating the service. So this means you have to use it within the 2nd or 3rd month of service. Also the "free downloadable game" is only if you sign up for an AT&T plan and even then you have to wait 30days AFTER signing up before you even get the code to use in the first place.Much of this can be lost in the description. Orginially I was going to get my son the WiFi only model but I thought that this would be better with the 3g model and all the free stuff, man what a disappointment. HOWEVER, I was thinking of giving the data plans a try ANYWAY so this still turned out to be a good bundle. It is also important to note that there IS a AC adaptor INSIDE the box, no need to order an addional one (unless of course you think you need it). I found this a nice little surprise since most PS items want you to use an USB connection to charge it against your PS3 or PC. The adaptor is a little bit of a pain given that you use a "USB type" cable (it is properitary) to the VITA which has a USB connection on the other end. You connect THAT end to a little "box like" convertor which then plugs into another cable that you plug into the wall. So three different pieces to plug your VITA into the wall.

I could just sum this review up in terms of "Does Nots":*Does not play any movies that you purchased with any previous model playstation portable system.*Does not play movies on any external device (you cannot connect to your tv or monitor) *You cannot download to you computer to watch via Media Go.*You cannot play any other playstation portable games on the PS Vita unless they convert the game to be compatible with the PS Vita, which they MAY do at their leisure provided it was a Sony title game.*Headset microphone does not work unless it is the Sony headset design for the PS Vita and sold separately.*There are many such things that this thing "DOES NOT" do.*If this thing were an employee, it would be unemployed. This is the worst purchase I've ever made. I avidly sought information on this product. Little more than lies were available. Sony was not publishing details and the Salesmen and so-called electronics experts did not know the details so, the made them up.PlayStation Vita - WiFiPlayStation Vita 3G/Wi-Fi BundleAssassin's Creed III Liberation PlayStation Vita Wi-Fi BundlePlayStation Vita First Edition BundleMadden NFL 13 PlayStation Vita Wi-Fi Bundle

I got this baby yesterday so I had quite some time to play with it. So here's the Pro's and Con's:Pro's: - Graphics are absolutely amazing: stunning and very bright! - Games run smoothly as butter, it feels good in hands with dual analog sticks and all the buttons are responsive, Sony built quality. - Unlike Nintendo, Sony has a much bigger game library at launch, something for everyone.Con's: - This baby is pretty expensive, plus some hidden costs: $249 for a handheld console is kinda too much, plus $40-$50 for a game and Sony memory card is way more expensive than a SD/micro SD card (ipod touch costs less and the games are way less expensive, plus you can do alot of other stuff besides gaming) - It sucks that it's not backward compatible and if you own a download game from PSN, you still have to rebuy it for your Vita. - No HDMI out: with such a powerful quad core chip processor, it would be nice to play on a big screen (maybe somebody will read this and make this happen in the future.) - Maybe this is just my personal preference but I don't like the UI, interface, it doesn't look sleek as the same one we get used to with Playstation.Anyway, PS Vita didn't do well in Japan when it was released 2 months ago (I think the main reason is the price.) And even though they have more games than 3DS at launch, to me, there's no must-have games. I played Vita but at the end of the day, I switched to my 3DS to play Resident Evil Revelations (still a long way to go), Tekken, Mario Land, Mario Kart (and no, I'm not sick of this game yet!) Nintendo has been starting rolling out some A1 quality games now (Metal Gear Solid) so Sony better watch out! My prediction is that Sony will probably reduce the price sooner than expected!

After playing around with it for a while, I can finally give my verdict on the PS Vita. I think that it is an amazing device. As a late adopter of the PSP, I was disappointed at how quickly the PSP became obsolete compared to smartphones. The Vita is my solution to all those problems. There are just so many things I love about the device that I will just list them instead of writing a long review.-Incredible 5 inch OLED screen. Maybe the best screen on any handheld device ever. Once you watch movies or play PSP games on it, you will never want to go back to a PSP. It makes them look their absolute best.-Amazing graphics. I don't really need to explain this one, just watch any gameplay video. With games this impressive at launch, it makes me excited to see what will be coming in the future.-Great interface. Some don't like it, but I love the UI that has separate apps (I like to think of them as programs) running at the same time, and you can easily get to ones in the background by hitting the home button.-Cool community aspect. With stuff like Near, cross-game chat (excellent microphone), friends app, and group messaging, you really feel connected to your community. My only real complaint with the system is the battery life. I have been playing Uncharted GA at 75% brightness, and I usually get around 4-5 hours on a single charge, granted, Uncharted is the most graphically impressive Vita game. Other than that, I am in love with this device. If you have $249, don't hesitate to buy this machine, especially if you have a PS3. Having a PS3 in tandem with the Vita will make downloading demos and transferring items back and forth that much easier. Highly recommended!

the positives of this device are quickly buried in the frustration of trying to connect/sign up for services . i don't have a ps3 so i had to use the vita to access all sign up screens . the interface screens are soooo slooow to load and lag times are awful . also maintaining a connection with wifi or 3g is inconsistent . i wish this was just a game system and not an attempt to do what most tablets can do effortlessly . i have 2 games ( rayman and wipeout ) that are fun but i can't imagine how multiplayer experiences will be anything but another wireless annoyanceupdate: finally got the thing to update ( update needed out of the box !?) now I'm jumping through a thousand hoops just to be able to play my own music on this thing . it seems like every feature needs something else to be activated first . this is getting to be really annoying and time consuming to set this thing up .by the way the free game costs 14.99 ( data plan ) the free data does not kick in till you buy a data plan then you have to use it for a month (30 days!) until a code is emailed to you so you can dl the game but you first have to have a psn account that requires a credit card . didn't sony just have a huge issue with cc security ?update 2 : iv dropped the rating to 2stars because the only thing that seems to work for me on this system is the games . i know thats a dumb thing to say but this system is touted as a go anywhere system and its proving to be the opposite . the media manager has failed to connect to my computer ,the wifi and 3g connection is spotty at best and the set up is time consuming and annoying when connection is lost .
