i got it for my dad. he's not really an advanced user, so he's pretty happy with the features (or lack of). he especially likes it for the compact size which obviously makes it easy to carry!

I bought this camera used on ebay.com for 174.99. I plan on using it to film my hunts. I took it out the other day for a spin and i was really impressed. The zoom is absolutely fantastic. I can read cursive writing on my uncle's license plate from 75 yards away. Granted, the video format is a pain to work with. But, if you use the program from Koyote called "Free HD Converter" and convert it to flash, avi, mpg, or some other format, it's no problem at all. I like to work in flash so i convert to flv.The only thing i wasn't impressed with was the image stabilization. However, i always use a tripod or a bracket that mounts onto my treestand so it's nice and steady that way. I can count the points on a buck from 75 yards quite easily.I recommend it for quality at such a great price. The microphone is excellent and the carl zeiss lens is phenomenal. You won't be sorry if you buy the Sony HDR-CX110.

I purchased this camera on a budget of about $500. This camera was the best one I was able to research and it really does live up to all of the hype around it. It's the last model to have the Karl Zeiss lens in it, which is supposed to be a good lens. It also has a pretty cool slomo feature. 1080p HD, great quality.

The Sony seems like a nice little unit, I am however kind of disappointed in the outdoors video quality. The camera seems to grab the rays from the sun and wash images out, I have owned several camcorders over the years and never had the problem that I'm having with this one. I have made a short 2 1/2min video that explains the problem, I filmed it at the highest res so the file is to big to upload here but I did put it on my youtube page. [..]*****UPDATE 10/04/2011*****I was too quick at the draw with my review. I purchased my CX-110 from wally world, it was a close out and the floor model but for $230 I couldn't pass it up. I found that while shooting in the sun the grease from your finger tips makes the screen almost unusable, so it dawned on me that with this being a floor model I'm sure people had been sticking their fingers in all sorts of places so I checked out the lens with a flashlight and yep it was loaded with prints. After cleaning the lens my outdoor sunshine videos turned out perfect.

I am so frustrated with this camcorder. It works fine for a short while and then it works intermittently before quitting all together. First it was the buffer overload message and it stopped working. Well, I read up on this and it was suggested that I use Sony's memory stick, which I might add, was considerably more than other brands. But, hey, if it works, it's worth it. Well, it does't work. The picture started cutting out about 10 minutes into my recording, getting worse until finally stopping. The message when I tried to play it back was just 'data error'. Bottom line, no matter how nice the video quality is (and it is) if it isn't reliable and quits in the middle of a recording, it just make this camcorder a piece of garbage in my opinion. I'm giving it 1 star, because when it works, the video quality is excellent. Too bad it didn't work very often. Just a piece of garbage, and that's where it might end up too.UPDATE - Ok, I'm editing my review because after getting it fixed and using a SanDisk Extreme 45MB/s 16GB SDHC Card (SDSDX-016G-AFFP), the camera has been working fine. I would probably rate it higher if not for the problems I had with it, and not feeling totally confident that it won't happen again. Only time will tell. So far, so good though.

I love this camera, I also purchased the SPK-CXA underwater housing. I film surf videos in Hawaii and let me say, this is one of my favorite setups.The way the two sync up is through a wire that connects to the input in the same opening as where you charge your camera. usually for underwater housings(which are $1000+) they just have extenders to the actual buttons. The reason I bought this camera is because it is compatible with this underwater housing (which I bought new for $200 and comes with a warranty). However some of the down factors, which are based on the type of shooting I do made me decide on upgrading to the Sony CX350v or higher.1st, I didn't take off any stars because at this price factor you can't beat it.1. Image Stabilization, this camera is shaky. When you zoom halfway, i have to hold it with 2 hands. In the water I bob around in the impact zone for 2-4 hoursand have to hold my hand steady. I definitely would like as much help as I can get.2. The 350v has a wider angle lens. Essential for me.3. Built in 32gb hd. 350v has that and if I use this camera, I'm going to have to buy one ($50-$60).I don't know if anybody else has my same specifics but just remember to think about what type of shooting you are going to do first to figure out what you need.

This camcoder can record in HD quality (1080i) and directly on to SD memory cards. It is very small in size, simple to operate, has a number of built-in functions (which you might hardly use though) and has a nice lcd screen. As with our previous Sony camcoders, this also produces excellent video quality and acceptable audio quality.The camcoder would easily fit inside the palm of an average-sized adult and has a 2.7" LCD screen. You open the lcd screen to switch on the camcoder (it has not view finder). There is a manual lever to open the shutter and you are ready to shoot. The zoom and record buttons are conveniently located and can be operated by your index finger and thumb respectively. The lcd indicates battery life and remaining recording time. You can set a number of features (transitions, video quality (9 mbps to 24 mbps) etc). It has 25x optical zoom and okay quality 'shake compensation' feature. Most default settings are okay for home videos. Of course, there are menus for play back, review and delete videos. There is also a direct burn feature to burn directly to specific USB DVD burners w/o a computer.The videos are in 'm2ts' format and can be copied to a computer just using the SD card. Sony also provides a software to download, edit and burn these on to discs in bluray, AVCHD or SD-DVD formats. The software runs only on a PC though. However, the m2ts files can be viewed easily using VLC player software. you can connect the camcoder directly to a computer using USB cable or to a TV using a/v or component cable. HDMI cable is not included, but is optional (there is a mini hdmi port on the camcoder).The videos are of excellent quality - even with the 9 mbps setting, they are very good and gives you quiet a bit of recording time (~1.5 hours) on a 16GB card.

Armed with only "Windows Movie Maker" and a free editing program called "Video Pad" i created this video. Hope this helps.Da Movie Makerz (Vimeo)

I was looking for a replacement for a low quality Samsung I have had for 3 years that never consistently finalized my discs. I really thought I wanted another disc camera until staff at a local electronics store told me that they are on their way out. I was hesitant to buy something that takes SDHC. I thought downloading would be a pain, etc. This camera has been great. I bought it for Christmas morning (low light) and my video came out clear and audible and crisp. The picture is great for all of my recordings of my childrens antics. Images are great outdoors as well as in. It also automatically snags any "smile" midstream and freezes it as a still shot. Or if you want you can take your own still shots with it. Some of them turn out good, some are just mediocre, it's only 3mp for still shots but it's a cool feature.This camera is teeny tiny but easy to operate. I bought extra media storage and an extra battery becasue previous posts mentioned I would need them, however I haven't used them yet.

I bought the CX110 to replace my old Sony mini-DV that would no long transfer from tape to my PC via Firewire.The old cam had great sound, but only so-so video, very poor in low light.This new one has a very good picture, not true HD quality, but near enough for the cost.The audio however is very poor compared to my old Mini-DV.I knew this would be true the minute I picked the camera up, it's just too light weight to be of good quality.In use, I found my guess to be right on the money, sadly.I video tape my band a lot, and we are a quiet band and have always sounded good on video.Not anymore, the CX110 sounds thin and noisy compared, leaving me unhappy and I'm going to ebay this thing.I plan on buying the next model of Zoom Q3HD camera.I hear the video is not so good as yet, but sound is...and sound is definitely more important to me than video.If you would like to compare videos of my old and new cam go to my Youtube channel at:[...]The CX110 vids are the two with the deep color...all others are the old cam.Summary: good camera, but not for (even modest) audiophile us in the least.

This camera has good low-light capability. Even though it has a small sensor, the Exmor R technology increases the sensitivity. Our videos have come out looking nice and sharp and with good color, thus far, even in lower-light conditions. In better light, I would expect there to be less difference in the image quality and other HD camcorders.We're replacing a several year old DV camcorder, and the color, detail, and low-light capabilities are all improvements. Our old camcorder only had digital stabilization, so the CX110 is no worse in this regard. It does OK, but if stabilization is a big concern, it might be worth looking for another model.The small size is also a great feature. It's hard to believe it's so small.Some thoughts on memory storage. Be sure and pick up a memory card, as the CX110 does not come with any built-in memory. Do not cheap-out on the memory card-- get one rated at least as fast as the manual suggests, but I went a bit faster.

This camcorder took my breath away. It's picture quality is amazing and it's small but lasts a long time. Plus it's so easy to work, no weird buttons or need to read the entire manual. I also love the touch screen feature! I really recommend this camcorder if your looking for a new one!

I bought one of the refurbished my old handycam and I really like this one. Great Videos and simple use. I miss the old night shot from my handycam, but this one is good in low light conditions. Battery seems to last a long time. I have been trying to find a HDMI cord for this camera. You have to order a special one b/c the connection end to the camera is a smaller type connection. Overall I am very please and glad I got the refurbished one and saved money.

My old camcorder recorded on miniDV and was 5 years old. I wanted an HD video camera at an affordable price, and I found this camera. I bought the Sony HDR-CX110 a couple of months ago and couldn't be happier. I bought based on all the good reviews (especially John's). The video quality is it's strongpoint. It's absolutely beautiful HD. It's also extremely portable..fits in the palm of my hand.One thing I didn't like about the camera, the format Sony puts the captured video in. They are .MTS files which for me, a Mac user, caused some problems. I couldn't import directly into Final Cut Express. So I had to buy a program that allowed me to do this. I make music video parodies and put them on YouTube, and the quality of the videos looks just as good as the ordinal files. I would highly recommend this camera.

I purchased this Sony camcorder as a birthday gift for my wife. She had a personal digital camera that she kept compaining about. The shutter speed was so slow she kept missing the shots she wanted. So, I started shopping for a new camera! At first I ignored the camcorders but the cameras just didn't seem to fit my scrutiny tests (and some didn't pass my budget test either). Finally, I took a look at this Sony camcorder. I was sold on the Zoom feature alone. Awesome lens setup! Not only does it take great videos but also great pictures. She has this thing figured out! She has it with her everywhere she goes. Football games, birthday parties, baby sitting, holloween parties, etc. She's the one who has been checking into accessories for it and there are quite a few available. You know, I have a feeling she really loves this birthday gift. From my viewpoint, the mere purchaser, it has been a real steal.

I've had this for about two months now and I have not been disappointed. It has done great through two toddler birthdays, a family vacation to the beach and other random experiences. Even handled a low light indoor shooting range. It is simple enough to start using quickly but also has enough complexity to make you read the manual to fully understand it all.

This video camera is perfect! The quality, picture, performance...everything! It takes pictures on it's OWN while I'm videoing my kids! Freaky...I'm not computer/electronic savy, so that is pretty neat! I love it! It's a keeper!

Good product--very small makes it a little difficult for operate the controls. Good image quality, nice zoom. No memory card included so it will not work out of the box. Would also like to see Sony add a HDMI cord. Controls are simple to use. Documentation is poor. No instructions on how to edit/use the enclosed software. File sizes are VERY large so you need a little technical know-how to convert to a more compressed file size if you are sending video clips to friends. Very easy to write directly to a dvd which seems to be the focus of this product as opposed to the Flip cameras.

I have a HDR-CX110. If I move the camera too fast (other than dead slow) while filming I get a breakup of the picture during replay on my computer (macbook pro). The picture breaks up into little black lines mostly around black areas but in other areas also. Is this a setting problem or is the camera just a piece of junk????
