After formating the drive for use with Windows XP, only 698Gb were usable.If you're familiar with hard drives, this type of "missing memory" is normal after formatting, relating to how the computer can use the segments of memory on the drive. Despite this warning, it's still disheartening.If you're looking for a ton of space at a good price, the Barracuda is a good buy. Before you jump in on this specific listing though, take another look around Amazon. It's listed twice and the other listing is cheaper.

This disk replaced a 250 GB unit that went full of pictures, music and other stuff. The Win XP was not able to configure the disk by itself but the bundled software handled the task easily and, as a plus, I could partition the disk with the same software. Although I don't mind, the HD is a bit noisy, but I'm working with BIOS set to maximize performance (instead of minimize noise).

This is the best, increased storage in my Apple Mac G5 1.8 Dual. Installation was a snap, no problems. This drive now holds all my Apps, digital photos and Backups from other Hard Drives. Fast and quiet.

After years of avoiding Seagate drives, I finally decided to take another and bought this drive for video editing. It's fast, but a bit noisy, the noisiest I've had in a while. Earlier Western Digital drives have been significantly quieter, and they seem to run slightly cooler than the Seagates. Despite these minor issues, I like the drive and recommend it.

This is one very fast hard drive -- MASSIVE over 750 GB has a 16mb cache and 7200 RPM -- comes with a 5 year warranty -- what more could you ask for?
