it was availabel for 50$ 6 months ago now its twice the price. maybe we should manaufacture them here in the US than in Thailand. 3 stars for the price.

I have purchased 3 Seagate 1 Tb drives in the last several years, and 2 out of three had to be returned because they were DOA. Seagate had better start paying attention to their manufacturing because their reputation is taking a big hit.

I needed a new storage hard drive for my desktop computer. I don't keep any excess files on my primary hard drive for numerous reasons, but mainly so I don't slow down performance or lose files during a crash. I seen this 1TB 7200.12 RPM SATA hard drive being sold by Amazon for $50 which it must have been on sale because it went back up to $60 right after I bought it. $10 off is a steal. This drive is great for any type of files documents, music, pictures, videos and any file size out there too. It holds steady at sustained speeds of 100 megabytes and higher depending on file sizes and how many files you are copying. Overall I love the amount of space the drive has as well as its astonishing performance. I will buy more of these to expand my storage space in the future.

I wanted an internal hard drive for a laptop. This came up in the search and I saw 1TB and fast speed and decided it was the best drive for the money. If it actually fit in a laptop it would have been great. I had to send it back. This is an internal drive for a desktop computer, not a laptop.

I purchased two Seagate drives for my Netgear NAS unit which was getting full. I wasn't sure why I had to purchase special drives as recommended by Netgear until I installed these two. They have special connectors which are not usually found on normal PC motherboards. All I had to do was slip them into the two open bays and the unit automatically sync'd the drives and in about an hour or so everything was working great. Couldn't have been any easier.

I ordered my first drive on Monday, Sept 26th. Upon connecting it to my computer, I got a warning "Smart Fail". After running Seagate's SeaTools for Windows, it said "Smart - Fail" and told me I need to replace the drive. I requested an RMA, and the next day, I got another one. Same problem. Hopefully the third time's a charm, but if the third one doesn't work, I'll most likely ask for a refund and purchase a drive made in Singapore instead of a Seagate made in China.Edit - July 6th 2012 - The drive just died. Now it won't even power up. My other hard drive in the raid array works just fine.

I bought this hard drive for about 42 dollars less than 4 months ago and the price is around 100 dollars now? I'm rather confused as to why this has happened. But all in all this hard drive has no failed me yet. Boot times are about 30 seconds from power on to windows aero fully loaded. I have no complaints about this drive, except the drastic price change. Before I saw the price I was thinking about buying another, but I guess that changed my mind.

I'm reluctant about solid states still, but really think they just need a couple more years of development to be perfected. For that reason I chose to get two 7200 drives and run them in RAID 0. Two of these things (use HDTunePro to test their stability individually first) in RAID have the same speed as one leading brand SSD. I play too many large games and FRAPS them too much to feel comfortable getting a decently priced SSD let alone two, and with these I get about 20 times the space for the same price. I knew what I wanted and I got it with these. Had to send one drive back because it was unstable, but that's why I bought it from Amazon, cause they send you a new one right away for free.

The disk arrived quickly and ran fine for about 1 day. It then caused a blue-screen failure, and then would not boot (it was my boot disk). Finally, it was not even recognized by the BIOS, or a live-CD Linux. I used different SATA and power connectors on it with no luck. The return process is pretty painless, so I'll see how the replacement disk fares. I'll change the rating if the replacement works OK.The new one came and works fine. It does what a disk is supposed to, so I've upgraded my rating (down one star for the hassle of getting a bad one).

This is my second Seagate Barracuda drive this year. One for a backup and now this one for the primary drive. Quite fast. Easy to install and maintenance free. And, a good warranty.

A decent price for a great HDD, Installed great, and was able to set up it very well. So far this has worked without any faults. I am very impressed with this product and I would recommend it for anyone wanting an upgrade.You can also go the the Seagate website and they have plenty of guides and software for any help that you need.

This was a simple install, and came off without any issues.Delivered on time, in well packed box. What's not to like.(Of course you need to provide your own SATA cable.)

My Iomega 1 TB NAS bit the dust, and so I looked around for other solutions that provided better redundancy. Found out about FreeNAS. Bought three of these Seagate Barracuda 1TB, an old PC and a few SATA Cables. Now I have over 2 TB of RAID 5 NAS for under $200.

Bought this to replace the original hard drive in my 2007 iMac that died. Have had it installed now for about a month now. It's very quiet, feels plenty fast, hasn't given me any problems so far.

I bought this product thinking that all of the other reviewers perhaps didn't even know how to install an internal hard drive. Maybe these things work, but people just thought that they didn't because they were clueless. I was wrong.When I got it in the mail, it was dead on arrival. I plugged it in, and the BIOS didn't even recognize it. Shame on you, Seagate. I thought that maybe I just got a dud, so I ordered a replacement. I got the replacement, and it's been working as expected for about a month. I hope and pray that it does not crash.Speedy shipping though.

I purchased this drive to replace a failed drive. It installed and worked great. However it only ran for about two weeks. Amazon was fantastic in getting me a replacement drive the next day. I am now up and running. I hope this one does not fail.

Was pleasantly surprised how quiet this drive is. Got better than expected HD Tune benchmark scores (average transfer rate - 103.7 MB/sec). For the price, you can't beat the storage capacity. The SATA 6 Gb/s connection and 32 MB cache are added bonuses. Would highly recommended.

I purchased three of these drives when they were discounted as a Gold Box Deal of the Day. I installed the three drives in an external eSATA RAID enclosure and configured them for RAID-5. The performance throughput from the drives has been more than adequate, and I have had no hints of failures like those that other reviewers have reported. The drives are not particularly quiet, but I'm not really concerned about that since I'm more concerned about performance for use in photo and video editing. Unless something changes in regards to reliability, I'd definitely recommend these drives.

This drive worked excellent right out of the box. I have an IBM ThinkCentre and the 80Gb drive that came with it was filling up after 4+ years. It only had 10% free space left. I was able to clone it and now its much faster loading and all my programs run much smoother. I was going to get a 300-350 Gb but the price difference was a no-brainer. I have always liked Seagate and several friends also recommended Seagate. Amazon, You made me a happy user of your service. Thank You

Seagate is currently the only manufacturer of hard disks that I trust having experienced disk failures from most of the other disk manufacturers products. I purchased 4 of these disks to go into a NAS enclosure to store data for a part-time business I run from my home and so far I'm very happy with these disks.

Works great. Took a little bit to figure out how to install it. I had to get a seperate data cable and find the extra screws on my tower. I also watched a few on line videos on how to do the install. But the drive has lots of room and works great.

Product didn't work properly.started ok, then on reboot, system would not read drive. Customer service and prompt refund from Amazon. 0 out of 5 performance. 5 out of 5 customer service.

Saw that this drive died for other people in about a week. Thought they just got unlucky, decided to give the drive a go.Worked fine for about a week. Started clicking out of the blue, no longer accessible.Sending back for a refund, not taking a chance on getting another defective one. This "stock" that they are pulling from obviously is hit or miss....do you really want to take your chances? Not me, I'm going with something else.

I built a new computer using two of these in a RAID(0) configuration. Everything was great for a week and then boom, a blue screen and errors when trying to boot. First time I've ever had a harddrive go that fast.I give Amazon points for taking them back and giving me a very quick refund but I couldn't wait for a replacement so I headed off to Best Buy to get a couple of new WD Caviar Black drives that cost more but seem to working okay.

Unfortunately, I got a bad drive and had to send it back. However, I replaced it with the exact same drive locally. The second drive works perfectly. Threw it into a new rig, partitioned it with GParted and dual-booted Windows 7 and Ubuntu. The unit is very quiet. Good amount of space for the money.

The price was good on this hard drive. I like the hard drive but sometimes when I open it or a folder inside, it takes some seconds to open. No problems with the other hard drives I have installed inside my gaming rig. I used it as a storing drive so not a big deal with it. It is very quiet.

This the the crap Seagate drive that has been failing. Mine lasted 2 months and it was gone. Don't expect a lot of help from Seagate. They claim its just a firmware problem but that doesn't seem to be the case. There are plenty of other hard drives out there. - don't waste your money on Seagate. Quiet drive and runs considerably cooler than the WD drive I replaced.5.9 Windows 7 performance index on my computer.The best thing about drive was the Seagate DiscWizard software you can download from the Seagate site. It transferred the system drive data in just 45 minutes. Great!

SSD's are still a little too pricey for my home build so I went with this drive. It's obviously not as quick as an SSD, but it is still pretty quick. I'm still installing stuff on it and haven't had time to clock it, but a great drive so far.

windows became really unresponsive and then after a reboot, i got a message saying something like there was a bad boot sector. trying to 'repair' with the win7 disc did not work. this has happened now with both drive i bought. thankfully amazon is good and i got new ones and they are running good (so far)no bad sectors reported with CHKDSK and the intel rapid storage utility says everything is ok. one more dead and i'm gonna get something else.

The hard drive comes in a simple unmarked package. Be sure to also order a SATA cable, since it does not come with one. SATA Data Cable (2pk.) You may need a right angle connector on the SATA cable to fit in your computer. StarTech 18in SATA to Right Angle SATA Serial ATA Cable (SATA18RA1)
