Had a problem with one of the original 4 not working, called and they sent a new one while we returned the other. All working. no problems detected so far and we've had them in place almost a month now.

It was the first thing I purchased in building my new tower. I had not ordered my MB or Processor yet and now I'm waiting for the processor to be delivered before I start the build. I let you know what happens when that happens!Well I have had it up and running since the holidays and it's now August 2011 and it operates as expected!!

At the time it was the best deal on a 2 TB drive that I have ever seen.No problems so far, but then I am only using it for backup of a Samsung SpinPoint 2 TB so speed and noise is not a big deal for me in this situation.

Had mine since Apr 2010 no problems. Sea Tools reports it's still healthy. Quite. I would buy again. Btw, all my hdd's are Seagate.

Holds lots of Space 2 TBs.You will have to format drive (In the OS Ubuntu its so easy to format to fat 32 that could be read on almost all operating systems) and is considered a green drive because when not in operation will spindle down to save power.

Good value for 2TB drives. Since it is a 5900RPM drive it is faster than other similarly priced 2TB drives out in the market. I've bought 3 Seagate barracuda drives (2x 1TB, 1x 500GB) before and never had any problems. I highly recommend this drive to anyone looking to upgrade to a larger hard drive.

I purchased 3 of these HDD for use in a Netgear Readynas NAS drive. After 3 weeks 1 has already failed.I read about the reliability issues with these drives but ignored these reviews due to the relatively low price of the drive.I have just spent every night for 3 weeks digitising media and coping data stored on dvds onto the Readynas drive, luckily I have the 3 drives set up in a raid configuration. I just have to hope that one of the 2 remaining Seagate drives does not fail while the replacement drive (which will not be a Seagate) is being rebuilt.I would NOT recommend these drives to any one and will be swapping out the 2 remaining drives in my Readynas for a different brand. If Lambdatek do not take these drives back then I will throw them away (and also not use Lambdatek again). I personally could not sell something knowing that there is a large probability that it will not be working in one month time.If you have one of these drives then I strongly recommend that you back up the information on it.Seagate refuse to acknowledge the reliability issues with their recent drives which means that they are not trying to resolve the issue, so I will never buy a Seagate drive again.

Received the drive in OEM package (made in Thailand). It took me 28 hours to format this hard drive with VISTA in a DELL 531. It provided lots of space for media files but the drive is noisy every time power is supplied to the drive and data is accessed. So far so good. I filled up 3/4 of the capacity and it still works.

You can use Seagate drives in your Raid but not recommend for backup drive. Drive has pretty poor reliability. Dead 1-2 months after purchased. Not worth to trust.

This hard drive is super quiet. I have to really to put an effort in to hearing it. It has the longest warranty that I found available. At 2 TB the largest capacity available as well. I am completely satisfied with my purchase. I will buy again if needed.

I am giving this four stars because, although the drive does exactly what you would expect it to, the Amazon Frustration-Free Packaging is really no packaging at all. The hard drive arrived in an anti-static plastic wrap bouncing around in a huge Amazon box and two air pillows. I am amazed that the drive didn't arrive totally destroyed. There is no manual. No spec sheet. Nothing but a hard drive bouncing around in an oversized box. No cables either. Of course, this is what the description says, but be clear on what you will receive.As for the hard drive itself, it arrived unformatted. Adding a single NTFS partition leaves 1.81TB available for use. Not bad at all. I am running mine inside an enclosure I purchased separately - NetDisk 351UNE 3.5-Inch USB/eSATA/Ethernet Enclosure For USB or Network StorageI have not had ny problems with reliability after a week of use. I'll update the review if I end up with any problems. It seems to be pleanty fast. I have no way to measure it, and speed depends on a million other factors, but no complaints here.Five starts for the drive itself, but since part of this product is the Amazon Furstration-Free Packaging, four stars overall.

Ordered six of these 2TB drives by Seagate for Netgear Pro Pioneer. Despite mixed reviews on this model, this was one of few supported 2TB drives by Netgear. For price and 2TB drive, I decided to take a chance. The unit has been up for a week without any click of death as some users experienced. No complaints about drive noise because the Pro Pioneer fan which is super loud blocks it out. Personally I prefer Western Digital hard drives however for $109 for 2TB I couldn't pass it up more importantly tho the Seagate hard drive was also supported by Netgear.

I really did not expect a lot from this hard drive. It should have been a straightforward device but unfortunately it never worked. I have tried everything from formating, error checking, you name it. The problem appears to be too many bad sectors which are making this drive unusable. If you read the numerous reviews online you will find that even if you get one that works it will likely fail in due time. Not worth the price (even a low price). Seagate should recall this product.*** Positive Points: ***- low price- high capacity*** Negative Points: ***- Did not work- lots of reports about drive failure even if it did work- The fuss free packaging is not a good idea because on a sensitive device such as a hard drive, you want as much packaging as possible to buffer and protect the hard drive from bumps during transportation.Conclusion: I would have liked for this product to work but a DOA product is unnaceptable in this day and age. What ever happened to R&D and quality control?

Big fast hard drive. There are bigger faster drives but the price was right. Funny thing: The seller refused to deliver to a PO Box, then delivered by US Postal Service in a little, tightly bubble-wrapped box, which was wet from rain. The drive was fine, and runs well.

I upgraded my system to a new 2 TB hard drive and within a week, I was getting the click of death from this drive. It started clicking at random times, my whole system would freeze from several seconds up to a minute at a time, while it tries to access the drive. I cloned the drive to another new Barracuda drive (took over 48 hours to copy the whole thing) and the new one is clicking as soon as I started it up.I've been stuck unable to work for several days while I get an actual working hard drive in my system. You can't trust these drives if you need something reliable.

Seems to be good. Runs fairly quietly and is very cool for a 3 1/2" drive. Moves large files around surprisingly quickly (100+MB/sec), but is not very good as an OS drive for those small quick random reads and writes. As a photographer, 2TB is helpful, but something in the range of 10TB would be more useful.One thing that makes me very wary, is the frequency of reports of failed hard drives (for this model and others). This has been a long-standing problem and one that the drive makers should solve. In the meantime, you would be a fool to not plan on this drive failing. I do daily on-site backup, and rotate weekly with an off-site unit. My friend who keeps his business records on these things keeps a daily backup copy both on-site and off-site. This drive WILL fail. It is just a question of when.

I purchased 4 of these drives, 3 from Amazon and 1 elsewhere. Packaging for the shipping was fine, however I have had two of the drives I purchased here fail due to too many bad sectors. Seagate's utilities failed both drives within minutes of starting the tests. The first replacement drive seems to be fine so far and I am waiting on the second replacement. I have several of the WD green drives in the 1.5TB size, however they are not compatible with my NAS, therefore I went with the Seagates due to the low cost and size of the drive. Time will tell if these drives will last. As a general rule of thumb I keep at least 3 copies of important documents/photos in case of a crash, so if one or more of these drives fail in my NAS, I loose the time it takes to rebuild and copy from backup without loosing data.

I received and installed this drive into a internal drive bay on my Gateway 6800 running Windows 7. Setup took a little work since I did need to create a partition on it for it to be recognizable and the firmware utility from Seagate that I installed to trouble shoot keep saying I needed a firmware upgrade but kept dying when I ran it.Once installed (sans firmware upgrade) and partition created I have been beating this drive up pretty good. I use it to transfer shows for archiving purposes of my Tivo. HD shows are about 6gb each and take about 1 hour to transfer (1 hour show) and I suspect that this is largely driven by Tivo performance rather than the drive. The drive is silent, performant and seems to serve up the media in a speedy fashion.All in all in about a month of heavy use with around 20 GB file movement each day I have not experienced any trouble. I would recommend this drive withholding one star for the failed firmware upgrade.

I just bought the 2TB version, plugged it.. worked well.. started to transfer my data on it. A week later, I now have 1 TB of data on it, and I'm getting the 'click of death'. The disk is getting really slow and I desperately trying to get back my data before to return it.I read about the problem before, I was hoping to get lucky... and I was not. I had a lot of Seagate HD in the past, but this one is really not up to the standard. As other people wrote, stay away from it...

I am using this drive with my HP EX490 1TB Mediasmart Home Server (Black). The drive was recognized easily by the server and has operated with no errors. I have several other Seagate Barracuda drives. One is a second hard drive in a desktop computer, the other is in a docking station and I use it as a backup drive. All of the drives have operated with no faults.

There's only a couple of points I wanted to throw out there for buyers of the 2TB version.First, it's an OEM drive, not a retail drive. So you get a 30 day warranty from Amazon and that's it.Second, this drive makes that funny Seagate whine noise that people with good hearing might find annoying.Other than that it's a great drive. No problems, comes unformatted in a plain bare drive box with an anti-static bag.

I bought three of these drives. One for a Netgear EVA 1950 and two for a ReadyNAS Duo. The drives run cool and are 100% compatible with both units. I couldn't be happier with the purchase.

After much study and reading of reviews about the 2tb drives currently available, I decided to add a 5th Seagate drive to my system, I have 1 500gig, 2 320 gig, and now the 2tb internal, and an external 500 gig. They are all 7200 rpm drives except for the new 2tb at 5900 rpms. Totally quiet, and troublefree thus far. I was concerned about the speed difference, but honestly can not perceive any difference in the speed in real world use. Playing movies from that drive is seamless. The drive arrived in 4 days with free shipping, remember this was the bare drive so it was by itself, no cables, but nicely packed. The 2tb drive does not come with the jumper for slower motherboards, and if your gonna need it remember it is smaller than a typical jumper. I used to use IBM drives exclusivly, then they became Hitatchi and caused me untold woes as they died with no chance of recovery, short of the big buck $$$ way. Christmas pictures of my Dads last Christmas are trapped on the last one of those I will ever buy. Seagate drives have been solid and troublefree.

This HDD has worked great in a Drobo for the last 6 months. Not too noisy, good on power, and a nice large size. Another just like it was purchased to go in the Drobo along side this one that was received as a review sample. I would buy another.After using the drive for a while, the one drawback to it is if the drive goes to sleep access can take a short while before you can read/write the drive. Not for high performance applications where you want instant write access.

I picked up a few of these drives so I could make mirrored disks in my server. 2TB seemed like a great deal for the costOut of the box, one of the drives had multiple bad sectors. Not that this is new with Seagate, but I thought that maybe their drives had improved.

I put this drive into a Vantec hard drive enclosure. It works pretty well. Some reviewers complain about the speed, but with this price you really cannot expect it is to be of 7200 RPM. It is priced competitively against other drives with similar speed and capacity. If you this drive in a USB enclosure, then drive speed is not critical. The bottleneck will be USB. If you use this drive inside the computer or you have eSATA or Firewire for your enclosure, you may consider something with higher speed (pay more, of course). The drive is only warm not hot after hours of use.I have only one little complaint. The drive has low-pitch humming sound when the drive is in use. I put the hard drive enclosure on my desktop. It is quite annoying to hear that.Time will tell if this drive is reliable. I will then post anything unusual I find.

I have been using this drive for about 6 months. I use it for Windows Media Center recording storage and playback. It works beautifully, no noise, no stutters on video playback. I thought video would be choppy because it is 5900 RPMs instead of 7200, but it is exactly the same as my barracuda 7200 playback.

Several complained about the drive noise. I hear NO NOISE, it's the quietest drive I've ever owned. It's the fastest, too. Seagate reliability is OUTSTANDING. It installed in a snap. What's all the complaining about?? I really don't get why folks are saying it's loud or needs a firmware update. If it needed one at all, it was in early versions, and not this one.

Quiet, cool, huge and the difference in speed between the 7200rpm and the 5900rpm would only be noticed by professional video editors. Less heat and RPM mean less energy used as well.

Running continuously for 1 month so far and very satisfied with product. Took a while for me to decide on a particular 2TBmodel with all the failures generally plaguing drives of this size. Stuck with Seagateas I always had good support from them. Drive going to be used in a Cisco Mediahub.

I bought 7 of these drives for a raid 6 configuration. 3 of the 7 failed the first week, 2 on raid building, one after a couple days in the raid. Amazon was great with replacing. I was surprised at the failure rate. It makes me think it was a bad batch. After a couple weeks no more drive failures, I hope that they will last years now.

Amazon had this drive on sale for a very good price so I ordered two of them to be used in an NAS (Network Attached Storage) server. I was looking forward to using the new "green", low-power demand hard drives. Unfortunately one was quite noisy, to the point of being unacceptable (and much louder than the specs claim) and the other had the dreaded "click of death". I've bought and used many, many hard drives over the years and these drives obviously had problems right out of the box. Neither would format properly. It's too bad because I've been a Seagate man for years and years. Within the past few years their QC has dropped to rock bottom. Thankfully Amazon stands behind their sales so I returned them both.

I upgraded my iMac from a 650gb HDD to a 2TB HDD. It has been great. I was really impressed with how Apple builds these machines. I own a Managed Services Company and we have several MAC customers. They wanted the ability to upgrade their machines HDD's. So I decided to upgrade 3 of my MACs at home first all with success. I bought two of these for a Raid 0 pair. One failed within a week. Clicking noise and then failure. Got a replacement from Amazon. The replacement failed within a month. Clicking noise and then failure. Amazon will not replace, offered full refund. The other drive that I bought is still going well (6 weeks so far). I used, at various times, five other drives in the same system and none of them failed. This is not fun, from now on I will follow through with the advice I got recently to format the drive 7-8 times before I add any data.

I paid $150 for this 2 TB drive. I'm using it for data storage, videos, pictures, and music. It works perfectly for those items. You do not need to have a 7200 RPM drive for that. I have a 7200 RPM drive for my OS and programs to ensure those work quickly.Not much to review here. It is an OEM drive, which means bare, no cables and no software. Just calculate out your cost per GB with other offerings and get what you need. This drive has worked flawlessly thus far.

Bought two of the same drive (2TB version) at different times, one died after 3 days. Continuous clicking when powered up and couldn't be recognized. Thank goodness for Amazon's efficient replacement policy.

I bought the drive to increase the storage space in my file server. I don't notice any performance loss due to the low power feature, it sped through the drive fitness check a lot faster than I expected it to. It works fine, and I haven't had any problems after a month. It runs quietly (at least quieter than the fans in the machine), and no clicks either. Not much to say really... it stores a lot of data and does a good job of it.

I bought 6 of these to populate my ReadyNAS Pro in a XRAID-2 configuration. They have been running 24/7 for about 4 months now with no problem that other have reported. I'm getting a second NAS soon and won't hesitate to get more of these.

My unit was dead on arrival. Neither Amazon nor Seagate would replace the unit because I'd received it through the VINE program. Was it defective when built or damaged a result of the minimal packaging? I cant say but it doesn't really matter does it? Bottom line, if you order this product from Amazon the odds are good that it will not be in working order when you receive it. STAY AWAY.
