As I used for a title... Do NOT use free shipping.. I did and Amazon used the lowest class of US Post Office shipping from Springfield Mass on July 30th. As of August 13th I had NOT received the package in Sebago, Maine, only 250 miles away..Amazon support, however, on learning that the package had not arrived sent me an over-night replacement free of charge.So, to sum up... Boo! for the Post Office (- 5 stars) and Hurray for Amazon +5 Stars for their attention to the problem with their "Free shipping" by Snail Mail.I can't imagine the condition of a computer Hard Drive after being in transit for more than 2 weeks...

Bought this drive to help migrate my system. I have to say, it's excellent. Plugged it in and my system instantly recognized it as another fixed disk. I'm only using USB 2.0, and I'm astonished at the data throughput. 200 gigs of video files took under three hours to transfer - that's quite fast (the firewire port would be comparable or slightly faster). The larger cache may be helping here.Noise: drive is audible (standard HDD clicks) in a dead-silent room, but not bad at all. Loud drives are a peeve of mine, and this one's not bad. Quieter than the Maxtor SATA in my system, louder than the Samsung, and louder than the WD.The form factor is a little goofy. I dunno, the design is totally thick...it's not the sexiest. Maxtor series II drives look way way cooler.All in all, this is a sweet drive. recommended.

I have used three other external drives and like this one the best. I run on a PC, so reformatted the drive to NTFS, but do use the firewire vs. the USB 2.0 connection. The drive is quite, cool and fast. I just bought a second one to give my son for Christmas.

Easy to set up, configurable (multiple partitions & file systems), and I like that you can place it vertically or horizontally on your desk. This also comes with tools to help you back up your computer. I've been using it for a few months and have had 0 problems. works as expected.

The Seagate 300gb external drive is very compact, quuiet, easy to use and reliable. The third party software is fairly easy to use but has two drawbacks. The upgrade to a full version costs nearly half the price of the hardware and the reminder pop up is an annoying nucisance.

I have only had this hard drive for 2 months and Amazons' survey came so I responded; usually I would wait longer. But so far so good. Everything works good including the backup software. Good equipment for the money.

I have been using the Seagate 300 GB External Hard Drive now for a little over two months. It is very quiet, easy to use and works great. Excellent equipment for the price. Have not had any problems.

I use the drive to back up important data. I write a few GB to the drive each time. I was surprise by how fast data transfered onto the hard drive through the USB2.0 interface. It is quiet and I have no complain.

The device was purchased so that I could consolidate the contents of 9 PCs onto one drive. Only the NT systems had any difficulty in recognizing the drive, and some short internet searches later removed this small obstacle.The Drive is performing excellently on my desktop as I sift thru the bits. Good Job Seagate!! Hoping to buy a 4TB drive in 2 years time.I do a lot of work in digital video and photography, as well as document processing.

Used for backing up a huge quantity of high resolution digital images. The drive is fast and quiet in it's operation, while taking up very little space on the desktop. I highly recommend this drive and this brand of drives.

I repartitioned the disk so I have a Macintosh partition and a Windows partition. I back up both my Mac and my PC to this disk. It is fast and easy to use.

Excellent drive; connected to the PC via the USB 2.0 interface and used primarily for automated backups. Fast, quiet, reasonably priced. Setup was easy. Highly recommend it.

Got this drive a couple of days ago and so far it's working like a charm. Easy to set up and most importantly quiet. I haven't tested the backup software that comes with it, but I think that's a big plus especially if you don't already have backup software.I highly recommend partitioning this drive in order to get better use out of it.

I'm really happy with this Seagate! Great capacity for the price, and 16 MB cache. It was a snap to set up (recognized right out of the box, but I reformated it into two partitions) and data transfer was really fast over firewire (has USB2 also if you need it). It runs quietly but you can still hear the drive a little. No issues with heat, and I like the blue LED up front (it's not obnoxious) that doubles as the on-off switch so it's easily accessible. I also really like that it powers itself down automatically if not used for a while. The software included is the Express version, so nothing special but it is functional. Nice small footprint on the desktop too!

They do get hot, so have enough air around them and some air circulating in the room. Seagate says you can stack them and they are built for that, but I am afraid of the heat and how it might shortend the drive's life. Highly recommended and I will buy more as needed.

I found the Seagate external hard drive with firewire and usb 2.0 interface to be extremely quite and very easy to use. All I did was connect it to my new Apple I-mac and it worked perfectly. I have been able to inport and export my film material without difficulty and would highly recommend this product.
