The preamps on the Scarlett are brighter and have more headroom than other interfaces I’ve used. The Air feature is especially nice when using microphones to record acoustic performances including vocals.
The setup process seemed unnecessary to me. You plug in the unit, it shows up as an external drive, then you have to go to a website and download and install the drivers. As someone who used a Mac I’ve never had to deal with stuff like that and I’m sure it wasn’t necessary but the process is simple enough. The fact that you have to go through a little tutorial as you set it up is annoying but I’m sure it’s helpful for people who have never used an interface or just aren’t as tech savvy.
The plugins that you get free are worth as much as the box itself. I’d get it for those alone. The plugins from Mastering the Mix are the only disappointments because you basically are getting a free trial and not a truly free plugin.
The Scarlett is pricey compared to a lot of competing products but is great for beginners and those looking to juice just a little more from your current setup.

Out of the box it feels legit. Aluminum case, etc. like you would expect from pro audio gear. Then, fire up the laptop & plug it in. Works right off the bat! At first it shows up like a flash drive that has a startup link to the Focusrite website. Download & install the driver & control software...it still works. I didn’t even change my settings in ableton. Just a few minutes into ownership and I’m already recording!
Now, if I could just do something about my voice...

The build quality is fantastic. It feels solid. Feels like it's built to last.
I'm a big fan of the move to USB-C. Much appreciated.
The only minor nitpick (and it is a nitpick) is I wish I could control 48V phantom power on a per input basis. But that's VERY minor, and definitely doesn't detract from the interface. It's probably a feature reserved for more expensive interfaces.
Overall, this is easily a 5 star interface. Great sound quality from the DAC, I'm impressed with the clean preamps, and the build quality is top notch. Love the design too. Highly recommended.

The included software is a nightmare. Makes me feel like I'm installing utilities from 1990. Focusrite doesn't make these programs though so hard to lay all the blame on them. Took hours to get anything usable on my machine and required creating account after account after account.
The problem is I bought this in lieu of an amplifier and effects pedals. You see all these videos on youtube of people running virtual amps on their PC. Maybe I didn't do enough research, maybe I took all the 5 star reviews on Amazon too seriously without looking closer.
The problem is latency. You play the guitar and between a 3rd of a second to half a second later the sound comes out. I've watched a dozen youtube videos on how to minimize this and nothing seems to work. I haven't started replacing any hardware so maybe I haven't gone far enough but I just wanted to emulate different amps and pedals. If I have to start upgrading my $2k computer I might as well buy an amp and pedals. In fact, I have a small amp somewhere I just have to dig out.
Don't get me wrong, there is a monitoring channel that has no lag that you can hear with your headphones and if you are recording with no effects I'm sure there is no latency either so none of this problem might be the cause of the Focusrite. But if like me, you didn't buy this to record with and instead just wanted to play with virtual amps then I don't think this will do it, and it's likely not this devices fault, maybe no DAW can do what I want it to do.

The fairly small size of this unit and its excellent sound were great when combined with my 17 inch laptop. My old Roland Octa-capture still has quieter sounding mic preamps (really only noticeable at high gain though) in it but the Focusrite sounds excellent for its price. Its size and power over USB (USB-C at that!) can't be beat in the convenience departments.
The included Ableton Lite software is easy to learn and fun to use too. I'd never used Ableton before owning this but after following the built-in tutorials I was up and recording with overdubs over my own parts in practically no time at all. The included Ableton Lite might not look all that pretty but it's quite easy to get productive with real quick.
At first I thought I was going to miss the absence of level meters but the rotary knobs have an ingenious led ring light system around them that indicates when your audio input is registering with 3 different colors - green (good), amber (near clipping) and red (clipping) which gets the job done for most needs.
This is a great product for recording your own audio as well as an interface to hook up higher quality external mics for video conferencing especially when it's musician related.

Using to record vocals and guitar in small home studio.
I’m blown away by this unit! I’ve owned an Apogee Duet and used iRig Keys IO for a couple years but it was so noisy I had to run one pedal noise gate with two software ones as well, it was terrible. Had this shipped same day like 3 hours after I ordered it and had it setup in 5 minutes!(ready to record, not with software bundles installed). I’m using a 2011 iMac running High Sierra gotta appreciate the plug and play capabilities(feel bad for the Windows users read a lot of negative reviews from them before purchasing). Very low noise, the gain and monitor knobs feel pretty premium for the price range, and if you’re totally new to digital recording this is an ABSOLUTELY PERFECT interface to get started. I say this because there is video tutorials included for every step from basic setup to installing the free bundled software(more on this coming up).
Bundled software:
I was so stoked for the bundled software. I’m Logic Pro X certified and have solely used it for the past 12 years. I was excited to download Pro Tools First for free to dust off the cobwebs and see how I like using that. Great effects and lite software to get started. Definitely feel like Logic Pro X is still the winner between the two for ease of use and over all included content, but if you’re new to digital recording or using a DAW this has tremendous value. Once again video tutorials are included for downloading additional software. It even helped me create an AVID and iLok account. That’s some next level product support. Also bundled in the included software are major discounts. You can get Space(reverb plug-in) for $99(normally $199)! There’s other discounts too so check them out and see if they apply to you.
Overall no complaints I can think of for this unit.
Will definitely be considering their higher end units for upgrading when I need 8 in/outs.

The Good: The combo XLR ports mean you can have two mics, a mic and instrument, or two instruments plugged into the interface. I was debating between the single and the 2i2, and I'm really glad I went with the 2i2 because I've ended up using the two inputs way more than I expected with the quarantine right now. It's really great being able to set up a mini podcast-like arrangement for long video and voice chats, or to have the two instrument inputs for experimenting with aux inputs and guitars, and just anything you can think of. I also think it looks nice with the red enclosure, but that's a subjective opinion.
The Bad: I do wish it had actual bar graph displays instead of the ring lights for the gain levels, but that's a super minor nitpick. The ring lights work well enough 95% of the time, and the other 5% I'm usually in Logic anyway so I monitor everything there.
The Neutral: I haven't used the provided software for the interface since I bought it. I'm not really sure what it's for, but everything just works when I plug it in already so I've never felt a need to use their app.

But then...
I started my DAW (Reaper) and added some distortion effects. Knowing that the rest of my family doesn't want to hear me cranking out my latest punk or metal song, I put on my headphones. Wait, the sound is still coming from my monitors too... Wth? No separate volume control. Ok... Well I know I read about internal routing and even seen a few videos that show how to do. I started up the Focusrite Control software, clicked output routing... It's not supported on this model. Unless you knew to specifically look for this, you wouldn't know it. And unless you are quite savvy with audio technicals, you won't find this on the Focusrite site. As a matter of fact, if you download the user guide from their site (I did before purchasing) you'll see Output Routing on the first page! (It just doesn't apply to the model you downloaded it for.)
So you either have to turn off the monitors when you use headphones or turn the volume on each, each time you switch back and forth. Being a bedroom player, I'm back and forth all the time. I'd really rather not wear down the knobs or power buttons on $700 monitors.
This unit is designed for and marketed to the home/bedroom user. This is really a silly design to not have a toggle switch/button or way to disable. I understand there are many uses where you would want both monitors and headphones on at the same time, but there are also many uses where it's one or the other. Could I just upgrade to the next model that has a separate headphone volume? Sure! $50 more for a volume knob and it doesn't support output routing via the software. For that, please add $100.

From our Behringer soundboard we were sending audio through our Canon XA camera into a HDMI capture card and all of it was being processed by OBS out to Youtube.
The audio sounded like it was underwater.
Now the Audio is being sent from our Behringer into the Scarlet Solo then into the PC via USB where OBS saw it instantly a usable audio feed.
The audio has no loss and sounds great on our live streams.
The unit was super easy to setup and I was even able to match the gain light from OBS to the Scarlet light.
This allowed us to visually see if we were clipping (red light) audio even if OBS was not the main window displayed in front of us. We like to keep it peeking into the yellow for a strong mobile device presence.
The Scarlet monitor feature allows us to hear exactly what the Scarlet is sending to the PC making mixing the streaming audio as easy as soloing the sending AUX feed from the Behringer board but keeping the audio engineering Solo's free for him to use.

Frankly, it was incredibly cumbersome to even figure out how to ultimately download everything because you have to set up accounts with 2 different websites in order to make things work... and yet the software doesn't work in the end.
Truly disappointed with this purchase and I would not recommend this as a result. If I can't use it, then it's a waste of money. I would have returned it except my dad got very sick (and ultimately died) and I didn't have a chance to troubleshoot the issues in a timely fashion. Either way, it wouldn't change my disappointment in this package.

It can be done. So I bought the 18i20 instead (got a deal for $450). This one stands alone so I don’t have to use a computer when I am not recording. I can leave it hooked to the keyboard and play without disconnecting it.
It has way more inputs and outputs if you want to expand but you pay for it.
Those are the best on the market for its price.
They will do a good job but are not user friendly and have a few other issues like the level of the headphones not great. The problem is that if you want better you are getting to the $800 plus range. Not worth it if you are not a real pro.
Another plus is that customer service are good and you have a tech support.

Also, I stream here on Amazon Live everyday! So if you have specific quesyions about this, audio, streaming, PC or any tech come stop by my stream at www.amazon.com/shop/atarabyte and I'd love to help in anyway I can! If you follow my page it'll notify you when I go live on Amazon!
Anyways, I hope this review is helpful and I hope you have a good day ^^~

***Updating to add, if any other Windows 10 user is having similar problems, I bought the Motu M2. It works great with Windows 10, no latency!

But for scereltt give headphone volume knob for solo aslo. Thnks
