Third and final chance
I downgraded from the Roventa 1800w to the 1700w... miss the digital display... had problems with Roventa before... defect item and I guess the Germans don’t like warranties all that much... anyways, back to this product... it moves smooth and das get the wrinkles... 95%
It’s more cost efficient and needs less water as the other one... so that’s good... the Plug attaches amazingly well to the cord... a design that i have not seen before+++
Just make sure you keep all info... receipt, registration, etc. the Germans don’t like to give refunds or like to offer repair or replacement parts... so be prepared in case something goes wrong with it...
Its my third Roventa... if anything at all goes wrong and I don’t get their full support I will never trust this company again... so let’s hope 3 Times is the charm... I love the performance, but not in love with the company... that’s why only 4 stars

Works fantastic with Water!
I love this iron so that being said I'm sure you're wondering why I gave only 4 stars.
Two things:
1. This iron works fantastic HOWEVER it must always have water and steam must always be on for the job to perform as I expect for the price I paid.
2. My knuckles constantly hit the dial controls. I am trying to not let that happen by being more aware but it still happens occasionally.
Those two things being said I still love my iron but thought for the price I would get a great iron without having to always put water in it. Another small thing which isn't really a huge deal, the fabric instruction guide listed on the bottom is useless as you cannot read it with the shine of the font and the color of the background they put it on. At certain angles you cannot see it so I just stopped looking at it. All in all I'm happy with this product but wish I could get a good iron without water. BUT with water this thing performs beyond expectations and extremely fast so I WOULD purchase this item again. Keep in mind this is the 1st expensive iron I have ever owned. I had a $20 iron for about 15 years and just got tired of spending all day ironing so this iron definitely makes the job fast. Maybe you can't really get a good iron without steam, lol, what do I know. Like I said this is my 1st expensive iron. So in the end I'll deal with the "adding the water" all the time because it cuts my time more than in half and does great job!

Replaced 23 year old Rowenta with a new one
I had a Rowenta steam iron for approx. 23 years, it finally stopped working about a month ago. It was the top of the line iron at the time of purchase. The only problem I had with it was after it fell off the ironing board during an earthquake the temperature setting dial didn't work and the temperature was trial and error. So, I had to buy a new iron and of course it was going to be a Rowenta. Did extensive research on the top name brands comparing to the Rosenta DW7180 and reading reviews. The Rowenta DW7180 was the best value and I am very familiar with the brand. My old Rowenta had 10 steam holes the new one has 400, ironing is super fast, the water tank needs refilling more frequently. You want more steam going to need more water. Everything else is pretty much the same as the old one. However, I have to agree with other reviewers - the color of the fill tank is too dark to conveniently see the water level. A lighter color or clear would have been a much better idea. I used a measuring cup to determine how much water brings the level up to the maximum fill line. Solved that issue. I sew a lot so my iron is always ready to perform and iron anything wrinkled. I would recommend this iron to anyone who wants performance from an iron.

Love this iron
Love this iron. I had an old Rowenta iron that just wasn't working anymore. After ironing, my clothes looked as if I hadn't bothered trying. But I had the old iron for approximately 20 years. Long enough to be sold on the product. When I decided I couldn't put off getting a new iron any longer I went looking for a new Rowenta. I am not disappointed. This iron presses your clothes with very little effort and after wearing the item all day it still looks great!

Best part is anti-calc
I've had 4 previous Rowentas. They all leak. They all get weak in the spray control. However, they're the best iron out there and I have a business which provides products I sew. It's what I always come back to. I like the weight of them...it doesn't hurt my wrists like the "professional" irons. I like the steam feature. It needs to be filled constantly, though. I like the auto shut off. I like the cord. I like that it doesn't tip the way cheaper irons do. I have 2 nasty burn scars from irons tipping over, over the years. I love that it is self cleaning and pulls the crap out of the water.

Don’t waste your money.
The worst iron. I have no clue how it got such great product reviews. The ONLY good thing about it is the retractable cord and even that you need to push in yourself once it gets close to the iron. If you want to waste 45 mins on one cotton button down shirt and ironing the same spot back and forth for minutes on end, this is the iron for you! It’s absolute garbage. On its highest setting it will not get wrinkles out of anything. When you push the steam it shoots out white calcification particles. I cleaned it. Still no avail. Honestly I wish I didn’t throw away the box and used it more in the two months I had it but I cannot return it now. I don’t even want to donate it in fear of someone thinking they’ll get a good product. Believe me, I have read and re-read the instructions thinking I was doing something wrong, nope. This iron is the pits.

Great Efficient Iron and gets HOT Fast
After reading the reviews, I was expecting to have to fill the water well every 2-4 pieces of clothing to be ironed. I guess when you get up to the heavy-duty cotton or canvas items that might be true. But most of my ironing is pretty much permanent press which just needs freshening or things I let sit too long in the dryer and got wrinkles. So, I didn't have that issue of running to and from my water source to refill. I did notice that it is easy (too easy) to come into contact with the push up the heat dial and I need to get used to my hands coming too close because this iron really heats up fast - which is great when you need it to. I found the spray and blast of steam buttons in a real good position for me. I'm right handed and have small hands and they are easy to use. Also, I have no issues with the water spilling or leaking - in fact the fill hole is easier than my old Black and Decker and there is a plug that sounds a click/plop when the fill hinge is shut All The Way. I think anyone whose iron leaks isn't closing the hinge completely since it does have a sealing plug built in - which I think is great. All in all, it's a fun iron to iron with (I actually don't dislike ironing - been ironing since I was 12 and find it relaxing -- and the new irons are so much better (and have steam features) unlike the ones I learned on over 5 decades ago. And the look of the iron is so cool - like some sort of futuristic car (but more affordable) .

It’s wonderful
I am a quilter. I love this iron. First thing I love is it’s not made in China. It is made in Germany but not all Rowenta are.
It’s a good weight. Even full of water. Heavy enough to help you iron but doesn’t tire your arm.
Makes copious amounts of steam. You are able to control the steam. Several hundred steam holes cover the whole bottom. Don’t have to iron with the edge to get steam.
Clear easy instructions. Long cord. Would love the cord to be retractable but it’s worth losing that feature to not have it China made.
I love it ! No complaints.
It was delivered on Sunday which was nice because I had to wait for it before I could continue sewing.
Thank you Rowenta. Feels like a quality iron.

I noticed what looked like blood smeared across the face of the iron
Just received this today. Upon opening the package, I noticed what looked like blood smeared across the face of the iron. I tried to rinse it off, but it was hardened and would not go away after some serious scrubbing. I then turned the iron on full heat, let it sit for a moment and then tried to scrub the substance off once again. Despite this it still wouldn't come off. My main concern is that I have nice stuff, that's why I bought what apprared to be a very high-end appliance. I'm sure with the passage of time and extended use that substance will come off, but that'll happen as I'm ironing an expensive piece of clothing. To make a long story short, I'm returning this and going to a brick and mortar store to find a replacement. What really upsets me is that Amazon slapped a sticker on the outside of the box that the iron came in saying that it was inspected for quality!

Best Iron I ever owned
A bit of a disclaimer. I am one of those people who love to iron. I starch and iron all of my husbands western shirts all the time. I have had many irons. I always just bought a cheap iron, but I finally decided to just get what I wanted. I love this iron. It cuts ironing time in half, and it works better than any iron I have every owned. It was definitely worth the money. The reason it works so well is the number of holes in the steam plate and the weight of the iron. I have a sunbeam that was reasonably expensive, but it only has seventeen holes in the sole plate for steam. The Rowenta has 400 holes for steam. It makes a huge difference. Now all I worry about is knocking it off on the floor and breaking it. Just go ahead and fork out the money for this iron. You will not regret it.

Defective Product
I have used Rowenta iron for years. The 1st one seemed to last forever. The 2nd one was defective and was returned and replaced by the store. It lasted approximately 3 years. The 3rd one less than 2 years. This current one for two uses. And then it started leaking. Leakage is the reason I am replacing my existing iron. It makes me wonder if their manufacturing standards are not what they used to be or did I get a refurbished iron. I am disappointed. I have tried American brands and never found one that compared to Rowenta with respect to the weight of the product and the amount of steam holes. I am going to look for another iron but it really is disappointing because Rowenta has been my go to for so many years. One change I do like is the grip on this iron. I have arthritis and it is easier to hold.

Updated review, down to 1 star. Leaks & no good after the 1 year warranty!
** Update: dropped from 2 to 1 star, based on horrible customer service delays in communication, “canned” responses & just overall lack of interest or concern about the failings in their product, much less maintaining a pleased & loyal customer base. It WAS a great iron for about 8 or 9 months, before the leaking problem started. It now has to be set in the sink when not in use, as it was soaking our countertops & cabinets. DO NOT BUY!

Ok, pretty sad now.... gotta go do same research I did a year ago for a great iron to replace what was the be-all-&-end-all. Thanks for nothing, Rowenta.

, add us to the people piling them to the trash after a year.... same problem where water started pouring out the bottom. This is not some $20 iron from target, for goodness sake, but the customer service reply was about what I would expect on something like that. Basically, “we could look at repairing it for about what you paid for the iron.” Really?! We don’t abuse the iron, we use it every day & maintain it appropriately, hence me biting the bullet & purchasing this “better” iron.... not impressed, Rowenta. Shame on you.

It almost irons the clothes for you all you have to do is stand there change this grandma
This iron does all the work. Because of its weight about 3 and 1/2 pounds. It pushes the wrinkles out pretty much on its own no pressure necessary. Love the fact that it shuts off in 8 minutes of non movement 30 seconds if you lay it down on the sole plate. If it falls on its side 30 seconds it's off. The only problem I'm having is the Blast of steam button inconsistent when you press it doesn't seem to do the blast of steam at times not sure why. I could very well be doing something wrong but I think anytime you push that button steam with blast out of it. This iron was made in Germany you can tell the great quality. Is iron must be primed read the instructions. In my case I couldn't understand them just pictures. I called customer service they are more than happy to walk me through the steps of priming this iron. And keeping it clean and proper steps at the end of ironing.

Best iron I have ever owned
Best iron I have ever owned. I'm terrible at ironing pleats in my slacks. This does the job! If I put the pleat in the wrong place, I can rearrange the slacks, re-iron, and the old pleat is ironed out and the new pleat is perfect. I can do all my ironing at once, hang clothes in the closet, and they are ready to wear even a week or more after ironing!

My only complaint is that it is easy to accidentally move the dial, making the iron much hotter (or cooler) then you need for the item you're ironing.

Incredible Burst of Steam!
I am an avid sewer and my old Rowenta was well worn and loved. It started leaking so I ordered this one. It had pretty good reviews on Amazon and other sites I checked. The first one delivered had a badly cracked water housing out of the box. Amazon replaced it immediately. The second one arrived in perfect condition. I used it for the first time yesterday and I have to say, it blows the old one away. The burst of steam is very powerful. I wasn't expecting it and nearly burned my hand. It also gets hotter than my old iron. It is a fantastic iron if you make clothing or in my case handbags. The precision point, the strong burst of steam, the high heat, and the safety features made me fall in love with this iron in one day!

It has a good solid feel. Like auto shut-off but would be good with power (on/off) button. Alas, iron drips from steam holes, a little bit I was hoping for none. Sole plate “browned” almost immediately after using spray starch. It was difficult to clean.

Replaced My Old Rowenta and Love It
Love this iron. This model replaced a previous Rowenta which had begun to sputter water when using steam. So after reading up on the latest irons, I decided this one had everything I wanted and, in general, Rowenta makes a good iron. I have been very pleased with its operation and ease of use. I like the weight of the iron because while having some heft for easier ironing, it doesn't cause my arthritic hands to hurt. Also, with a little bit of weight I don't need to go over the same place several times to get the wrinkles out. This is one reason I like the Rowenta.

If you need a good iron (even though I try not to iron if I can avoid it) I would suggest you try this one.

Good, with some exceptions
The nice features about this iron are its light weight and pointed nose. With its stainless steel soleplate, it glides very easily over fabric. What we don't like are the temperature dial and water receptacle and requirements for use. The dial is under the handle, and very close to it, so every time my husband picks up the iron, he inadvertently moves the dial. It moves very easily. It's not so much a problem for me because my hands are smaller, but it has happened and suddenly I'm ironing my polyester clothing on the linen setting! The directions that came with the iron say NOT to use distilled water. Instead, you MUST use tap water. The description on the website stated that you could use any water. That's not a problem but what bewilders me, and I find very inconvenient, is the fact that you must empty the water out after each use!

Leaks like a sieve.
Read the reviews that say this iron leaks. And then believe them. I’ve had it for about three weeks and I’ve noticed water drops here and there. Today, when I picked the iron up, my ironing board was soaked. As I was ironing, water was dripping all over my son’s shirts. I had to go over them continually to get them to dry. The whole bottom of the iron was wet. Believe the reviews that say they leak - because they do! This iron will be returned within the hour. I have no luck with irons.

I used to love it. It was the best iron I ever had, produced copious amounts of steam and ironed quickly and crisply---UNTIL, water began gushing out of the bottom, below the handle. Take 60 seconds and read this review, you'll be glad you did
Okay, I'm a 40 year old man reviewing an iron... It's okay because I'm secure in my masculinity and I am not ashamed to say that I absolutely love using this iron. I always hated trying to iron clothing so I would take it to the dry cleaner and have my shirts and incidentals laundered out of laziness. It occurred to me that it's their equipment that makes their job fast and deliver high-quality results. This is the case with most things, if you use high quality tools you get high quality results assuming you have the know-how to use them. Well most people know how to use an iron so get the best possible one that money can buy and you're in business. This thing is almost laughable with the amount of steam that I can blow out. You can empty the entire Reservoir ironing a couple of shirts, that may seem like a pain but let me tell you I can iron a linen shirt that has been balled up in the back of my closet in about 3 minutes with this iron. It's just that good. Because the results are so impressive it makes the chore of ironing that much less of a chore. Therefore, you can rationalize purchasing this iron for no other reason than you will actually enjoy ironing if you own this. ( and your clothes will look great)

Works better if you read about how to use the anti-calc features
This is my third Rowenta. I don’t love ironing but I dislike it less by using a good Rowenta iron and a sturdy ironing board. I previously had a Rowenta that was spitting rusty water and spitting a lot of white lime particles out, so I decided to retire it and purchase the Everlast Anti-calc iron.
I use plain old tap water as directed by Rowenta (instructions say to fill up with regular tap water - not any scented or distilled water). The first time I used the Everlast Anti-calc, I let it run out of water when I was done, then I pressed the steam and spray buttons to make sure there was nothing left and I also dumped it out over the sink. Thought that was sufficient to keep it cleaned out.
I was so surprised when a half-week later I plugged it in and it immediately started spitting white particles out of the soleplate. I’ve included pictures of the particles on a shirt and stuff on my finger that was in the anti-calc chamber after just one use. Ugh! – I shouldn't have white flakes on a shirt I'm ironing on the second appliance use - this is why I got a new iron! So afterward, I re-read the instructions, a bit more closely this time. Here's some information that may be helpful to you:
When you’re done using it, after unplugging and pouring off remaining water like you’re supposed to, flip the steam setting between opened and closed several times to prevent the valve hole into the steam chamber from scaling or backing up. You can also clean out the limestone collector and run the anti-calc features and they will help keep the iron clean.
You can clean out the limescale collector in the base of the iron very easily (When the iron is completely cool, at least an hour after use, just twist the lever a quarter turn and pull down on the chamber and rinse it out). If you live somewhere with very hard water like me, you may need to clean that chamber out all the time. You can also use the Anti-calc function to flush the dirt and scale out of the steam chamber of the iron itself by filling with tap water to max, heating the iron to 3 dots, with the steam feature turned on. Unplug, hold the iron horizontally over a sink, and move the stem lever to the anti-calc position. Water with any particles should start coming out of the iron within a few seconds. After about a minute, move the iron back to the steam position, plug it back in and allow it to heat up until all water is evaporated. Unplug, let it cool down and then wipe the soleplate down.
Once I read the instructions and figured out how to do these additional steps, ironing has been better for me. In addition to regular cleaning, just don't keep water in the iron between uses and your iron will perform better.
As far as features on the iron I like and dislike:
Filling it can be a pain. I fill the iron up using a small spray bottle with about a nickel sized opening. It works well and I don’t spill water that way. Others have complained about the water fill level being too hard to see but I don’t have a problem with that.
Overall, I like the size and shape of the iron’s soleplate. It heats up quickly and glides over laundry easily. Its similarly lightweight to the other Rowenta's I have owned and has similar amount of steam features.
What would make this iron better is a separate little piece of paper or some instructions on the outside of the box saying how to get rid of the particles instead of the information being buried in hard to read directions in the instruction pamphlet. (Why have features if no one will read about it to use them?)

Rowentas leak water - do not buy!
DO NOT BUY THIS OR ANY ROWENTA IRON! THEY LEAK!!

This is my second Rowenta iron. I bought this one to replace my first that also leaked and eventually stopped working. I thought I did something to it so I bought the new iron. I had this new iron for less than a week and it is already leaking at the sole plate and the handle. THE HANDLE!! This was the exact same problem I had with the last rowenta.

I don't know about you, but trying to use an iron that is leaking water all over my hand while trying to use it makes me a tad bit nervous about getting electrocuted.

This iron is going back tomorrow, and I am driving to my local big box store to buy a run-of-the-mill generic iron that will most undoubtedly work better than this overpriced piece of junk.

Not the Rowenta I've known for 25 years...but there's a story, read on.
UPDATED: December 26 2018
I completely forgot to do this update after my March update. However due to the outcome (please read reviews written below for the history), I can UP the stars from 3 to 5.

Rowenta serviced iron & replaced the entire reservoir. It was returned to me in 1 week! Not the 2-3 weeks as noted. It's been 9 months and I have absolutely NO problems with this iron. I suspect the iron originally sent to me was somehow damaged before I ever received it. The repairs done cured all the leaking issues and even the lack of stream production when the reservoir goes below half (a complaint I had when I first got the iron). The only quibbles I still have are about ergonomic features and the missing "cup" that used to be standard with all Rowena's. I'm a very happy customer and hope I can keep this iron another 14 years like my first two.

UPDATED REVIEW: March 20 2018
I received DW5080 in July 2017 and wrote a review (you will find below this one). In January 2018, my DW5080 started to leak in various places. The iron was only 5+ months old and I had cared for it according to Rowenta's guidelines. But from past experiences with customer service reps (CSR) of various companies, I didn't want to phone Rowenta. But the leaking started to increase, so I called them 7 times yesterday. They were having phone problems and after taking all my info (including a call back # in case we were disconnected), the call went blank and all the promises of sending me a return label by email never happened. Today, I called back and had the following experience.

The CSR today listened attentively to my troubles: the iron started to leak in various spots around the iron; the front panel in front of the handle; from the temperature dial; and from the screw on the bottom close to where the power cord is attached.

The CSR then asked what kind of water I use. Well, exactly as Rowenta requires - .tap water! CSR says my water is probably hard. I should use bottle Spring Water, but never distilled. This is because the iron has an anti-calc feature, and is more finicky that the Rowenta irons I had previously (1st lasted 15 years; 2nd is 13 years old but leaks too much to use water in it). But the iron must have minerals to work...just not too many minerals.

I'm giving these details in hopes it may help others who are experiencing similar problems. If you do decide on buying this to be aware that the new technology will cause you problems if your tap water has high mineral content. But whatever you do, don't wait to contact Rowenta about a problem. The CSR suspects my iron may be defective and their service center will have to pull it apart and try to fix it. Depending on what they find, they will either repair it or replace it. The CSR generated a case #, and my iron will be serviced for free - it will be gone 2-3 weeks. I'm not thrilled to be without my iron, but I do have the 13 year old one I can use still and it wasn't a hassle to get them to listen and answer all my questions. After I get my iron back, I will do another update to this review letting you know how DW5080 fares in star numbers.

BELOW is the original review I posted after receiving this iron.
Unfortunately, because I've used Rowenta irons made in Germany for over 25 years, this, my 3rd iron by Rowenta, is clearly not of the same caliber as the previous two. It is adequate but they've managed to "dumb it down" to the new economic model of "good looks but less quality." You may find my review nitpicking but it's accurate; especially since Rowenta may still make the best household iron out there.
Observations / Likes / Dislikes:

The stainless steel sole-plate is not as high quality as before - visually is more dull in appearance.
The auto-off feature engages too quickly, so I'm constantly having to wake it up (I sew and this is annoying. My previous Rowentas all had this feature but never at this annoying timing)
The opening to fill the water reservoir at first looks like a great feature because the cover is large. But the design is terrible unless you're filling it from the kitchen sink from a high neck faucet. Using a measuring cup (no longer included with this model) takes a bit of skill. But humans are adaptable and that's why Rowenta has redesigned.
Once the reservoir has about 2/3 of a cup of water left it will NO LONGER give you any steam. I have been used to emptying the reservoir fully. I wonder why this is now a "feature?"
The iron "pings and pops" not sure why, but the spring used for the reservoir cover pings as the heat affects it. I already expect, this part of the iron to break in no time.
The buttons for steam and spray were redesigned for looks but not function. So as you hold the iron and press, your hand inadvertently engages these buttons because they end too low on the handle.
When you're finished using the iron, you CANNOT fully empty it of the water. This is a problem if you plan to keep the iron in good working order. The 1-2 tablespoons of water that [annoyingly] remain will in time corrode the main screw on the iron and it will leak. Not sure what to do about this except store the iron upside down in hopes of it drying out.
It still produces a great amount of steam from the (350+) holes in the sole-plate.

So with all that, I still think this is a good and well above average iron. It was disappointing for me, that the quality & design has not been maintained. My previous DZ5080 Focus is still in service, but she can't be trusted to hold her water. I paid only $59.99 for it and had I cared for her a little better, she'd be in better shape. But comparing the two - DZ5080 & DW5080 - leaves me a little sad.

I plan to write the company and give them my own review. Not sure how they will take it, but it's worth pursuing.
