Poor steam capability
I've always bought Rowenta, believing them to be the highest quality consumer irons. This model has disappointed. Reading some glowing reviews I wonder about my experience but this is actually a replacement when I returned the original. The problem is I iron for 20 or 30 seconds, then stand the iron up and move the clothing around on the ironing board - then I often have to wait 20-30 seconds after reapplying the iron until steam begins again. Sometimes a full minute or more! Very frustrating standing there waiting for the iron to steam. Hate it!

Bought NEW but Received USED!
For my quilting needs, I needed an iron that had more steam output than my old Sunbeam. This Rowenta had all the features I wanted plus it was described as having better glide, too, so I ordered it. I didn't inspect too closely upon opening the box and quickly put this Rowenta to work. It took longer to heat up than I was used to but once it did I couldn't wait to try the steam burst on some fabric that had stubborn wrinkles. I pressed the steam burst button and was shocked to see a splatter of white particles all over my black fabric! I had never seen that before in my life! My 20-year-old Sunbeam never did that and I never, ever cleaned it! Obviously, this had been used! I went back online and read other reviews advising that a little water in the iron is normal due to testing before shipping. That wasn't the case with the one I received. There wasn't any water in the reservoir. And there were a LOT of calcium particles every time I pressed the steam burst button. Then I noticed that the soleplate looked very worn. This item had been obviously used quite a bit! I'm returning, of course, and buying another brand!

Even with this iron, ironing is not a pure joy. In fact, it's among the top 10 things I'd rather NOT be doing. But, alas we are a civilized society, and it must be done. This little guy makes the job easier and quicker.
The first thing that impressed me even before I received it, was that it's made in Germany, and not China, as most others are. It has a stainless steel faceplate and not a non-stick ones like previous irons I have used. I have owned this iron for nearly a year and have put it through it's paces: ironing everything from thick, lined wool pants and sweaters to thin and delicate silks. My Rowena iron has not been treated kindly (among the abuse: it's been knocked to the basement concrete floor several times) and is still in excellent working order. A distracted user set it on a too-high temperature and left it on a garment way too long, causing it to singe the fabric. The burned fabric rubbed off easily after using the self-cleaning setting. (This setting gets super hot steam to flush out mineral deposits from hard water.) And even in an event like that, I could rest easy knowing that it auto-shuts off after being horizontal for 30 seconds.
It's super convenient to be able to use tap water and not distilled. Let's be honest: there will come a point in your iron's life where you are out of distilled water and desperately needing to press something, you'll fill it with tap. For some irons, that could prove disastrous. You don't have to worry about that with this guy.
Its “burst of steam” setting is perfect for removing wrinkles on hard to press and fragile items. I had a feather and flower hair fascinator that had several misplaced creases and was able to smooth them all out nicely with this setting.
On the highest settings, the iron will go through water quickly, but I don't see that as a problem. You can see and are benefiting from the vast amount of steam it gives off, and since you are using tap water, you don't have to be concerned about budgetary issues. I leave a pitcher of water nearby so I can quickly grab and refill. And while they don't recommend refilling it while the iron is plugged in *shhhhh* I do it, anyway, without any trouble!

Arnold the Iron
I'm a quilter and this beast is amazing. It's incredibly sturdy with a nice weight to it and the steam is outstanding on this bad boy. I held it up next to my old one that died and I swear it was like looking at the movie poster for Twins (I've named my new iron Arnold). Yes, it's huge but it covers a vast surface area on fabrics which gets me back to my sewing machine faster. I can't wrap my head around the complaints over the water tank - I keep a flexible plastic cup next to it and pour it right in when it's slightly tilted. Those of us with half a brain can manage to fill it up without spilling a drop. Ok, so the reservoir could be a lighter shade of blue, but it's still clear as a bell. I especially love the really long cord - glad they took that into consideration because it really makes a difference.

Great iron, powerful, heats up fast, a lot of steam
This is a great iron - I have had it for a month and use it frequently. I have had other models of Rowenta irons before, as well as Sunbeam and Black and Decker and this one is by far the best. My most recent Rowenta annoyingly just stopped working randomly after about 2 years, so I searched various iron reviews and this Rowenta seemed to have the best reviews across many websites and amazon.
It heats up very fast, faster than typical irons, which is great and gets very hot so it irons very well quickly - saving you a ton of time compared to a less powerful iron. Somehow the steam function also is very quick - you don't need to wait more than 30 seconds to get the steam started. It is powerful, fairly light weight and give clothes a nice finish. I frequently iron my boys' khaki pants for their school uniforms and even if they are completely wrinkled from sitting in the dryer too long, it takes minutes to iron them to the point that they look professionally done. I'm not great at ironing, but this iron takes care of that problem. I have also used it as a steamer (vertically) and it works excellent and fast - got the wrinkles out of a silk dress in minutes.

I do not recommend - Leaks water on your clothes
This is my second Rowenta iron. Amazon replaced the first as a courtesy. Both frequently leak water all over the item I am ironing making it very wet and unwearable. I am not hitting the clean button so this is not the issue. It leaks more water, more often when you set it to any steam setting. I use it with the steam off and press the button for steam. Based on 2 irons, I cannot recommend this product. I wish I had purchased the more expensive Shark model. I had one for 5 years with no issues. Tried to save a buck. Mistake

It's a nice iron, but notheing special
It is a nice iron. Nothing that makes it stand out from any others. It is advertised as "dripless" and that has not been my experience with it. Within 6 months, there would be an occasional drip while ironing or a series of drips over a small distance. This is the second Rowenta I've had that has the same drip issues. I was hoping by "upgrading" to the second purchase, the problem wouldn't exist. That wasn't the case.
I'm disappointed in this product, especially the cost vs performance. It was my understanding that Rowenta is one of the leading manufacturers of irons. After having the same issues with 2 Rowenta irons, I'm going to Black & Decker.

This product replaced a cheaper DW2070 after years of reliable service. On the 7180, the red heat indicator light is supposed to turn off when the plate heats to the desired temp - on my unit, it never turns off, but the unit makes a click noise that I take to mean it has reached temp after several minutes. The 2070 reached temp faster, in my opinion. The major negative comment I have is that the little white toggle lever on the back end that opens the calc removal tool flaps open easily. When ironing and you try to stand the iron on its end, if this lever is sticking out, the unit will not sit flush, causing it to fall over. This is a major problem if you don't have a larger ironing surface area where the unit can fall to the ground. Because of this, I wold recommend a different Rowena iron in this price range or cheaper.

AWFUL IRON, DAMAGED MY SILK COVER-UP COAT; on LOWEST SETTING
I am so disappointed in this IRON... I purchased it some time ago..but had surgery; so just opened it and started using it 1-month ago.... Only ironed cotton...4 shirts...and tried to iron expensive silk cover-up like coat —- a couple of days ago.. Had this iron on the lowest temp and it messed up and pulled some of the material off of my and silk cover-up like coat. I am so disappointed. This is my second Rowena Iron and had the 1st one (which was 40 cheaper) for years; so I purchased this second one (more expensive) thinking that it would be even better; however IT IS MUCH WORSE. The iron NOW has STICKY residue on it FROM NEARLY BURNING and melting parts of my SILK COVER-UP COAT.... AWFUL IRON

Nice but Poor Cord Holder
I've owned a Sunbeam iron for a long time before it failed. Then I bought a Shark iron and it failed within two years. I've owned this one for almost a year with no complaints except one. When Rowenta designed this product, the instruction book said you can easily store the power cord by wrapping it around the unit and connecting it to itself in a nice little notch. This is not the case. I contacted Rowenta a few months ago to report the issue and the customer service representative made me seem as if I was a dolt for not figuring out how to store the cord. Then she advised I send an e-mail with a picture. I did so and never heard back. Again, the product has held up with no issue this first year. It's just annoying every time you go to store the iron and power cord keeps coming loose.

Disappointing for the price.
I bought this iron 2 years ago after extensive research. I wanted a very reliable iron for daily use. I own a Bed and Breakfast with three guest rooms and do not use a laundry service. We are extremely picky about the appearance of our bedding and all white sheets and pillow cases are carefully ironed. Our guests always comment on the high quality of our sheets, so an iron is a very important appliance in our business. In the two years before purchasing the Rowenta iron, I had used and sent 3 other irons to the iron graveyard! I cannot give this iron more than 3 stars, because even though it produced excellent and fast results there were too many other issues with it and it has now completely died on me! I am very careful about cleaning it every week and following the cleaning instructions. Imagine my horror after owning it for just a few months when a newly washed white sheet is suddenly covered with brown gunk pouring from the iron! There is nothing I can do with this sheet now except apply stain remover and throw it back in the washing machine. During the cleaning cycle of the iron, there is no sign of this brown gunk being released from inside the machine, so where does it lurk in there and why does it not come out at that time? Another disappointing feature is that the orange temperature light comes on after just a minute of two so I have to put it down and wait for it to reheat. Very annoying when time is short! It does get wrinkles and creases out very quickly but now it's time for me to buy a new iron and it will not be a Rowenta.

Great Iron that will leak in about a year or so.
I loved this iron enough to buy 3 of them in the last 5 years. But enough is enough. These irons will leak! Its not a matter of if, its only a matter of time. After the first iron started leaking within 2 years i figured it must have been dropped and it was my girlfriends fault. The second started leaking a little under 2 years so i bought the 1750 watt to replace it. Fast forward to Sept 2019 and a little over a year with the 3rd iron which is now leaking while ironing. I have taken extremely good care of my irons as i do with everything i purchase but to no avail. It is inevitable that these expensive irons while fail in short order. Im Finished with this brand! Not worth my hard earned money. When the entire customer base gets tired of being duped, Rowenta will want to do something about the declining iron sales and maybe come with a new model. I bet they will advertise that it does not leak as one of the selling points. Which will only be sneaky acknowledgement that the last generation irons were pieces of $#!+. At that point maybe i will do extended research and make a return to the brand hoping for glory again. That is if i haven't found a perfect alternative that matches or exceeds the usability of these Rowenta irons before they fail. As of now i dont trust this company.

Recommed Without Hesitation
Have used Rowenta for years. I iron everything, sheets, undershirts, hankies - just because. Rowenta has never let me down. This has a huge amount of steam vents and irons beautifully. Likely a bit heavier than some, but it feels good in the hand and does a great job of pressing clothes. I would recommend without hesitation and definitely purchase again.

Started out great...
I'm a seamstress. I love(ed) this iron. The steam was great. The cornering around buttons is great. The steaming capabilities for wedding dresses was great. It has great weight...I don't like lightweight irons. I've had it for about 14 months. Now, water just pours out of it. Leaves water stains on everything. I've followed all directions. I paid a lot of money to get what I needed. Is there a fix for this or do I need to spend more money to buy a new iron????

Can’t say enough how unhappy I am 😡
Let me preface this by saying that I am a full time seamstress and require a good steam iron for my work. I cannot afford to risk ruining an item that belongs to a customer. Also, I have been buying ONLY Rowenta irons for 20 years. I have always had leaking issues, even while just sitting upright, but they’ve always occurred after I had owned the iron for years and often not been too careful about what kind of water I’ve been using. With how much I use my iron, I expect a good amount of wear and tear and don’t mind buying a new one every few years.
But I do not expect my iron to leak while sitting upright right out of the box. This iron was filled and tested. Ok. It works...set aside on the towel that my old one sat. The following morning I go to turn it on as I start work, and as I pull out the retractable cord, water pours out with it, and I notice that the reservoir that was full last night is nearly empty, and the towel that it’s sitting on is soaking wet.
I’m SUPER irritated that I now have to make a special trip to return this damn thing. I am a single mother of 5 kids and run a business, and we’re in the middle of a pandemic, which is why I order from Amazon and have things delivered directly to my home. I do not have time to deal with this, and I’ll now be looking for a new company from which to buy my irons. 😡

Only buy if you have regular tap water in your house, and even then with reservations
I returned this one as soon as I read the instructions. Please note that you can’t use this iron if you have softened water in your house! Regular tap water only - not even bottled spring water or distilled water, which I have done before (a pain in the neck, but once you have soft water you have to make adjustments). Also, the blue color makes it difficult to see the water fill level. And “use once the heating light goes off” - I heated for 10 minutes and it was still on. Come on, ironing is unpleasant enough!!

Steam Galore
There’s steam coming from everywhere. There are quite a few outlets in the sole plate and they seem to allow for a very good disbursement of steam. The wrinkles ran away from my clothes like they were being chased. The iron while not heavy has a good weight to it to help press out the wrinkles. The temp seems pretty high although I feel like I could use a little more. My preference is to have the ability to get a little more Heat and regulate it with the temperature dial.
I’m not crazy about the colors and styling of the iron. I think less muted color choices would be welcome. The iron also looked like it had smudges around the housing. I looked it over for a few minutes to make sure it wasn’t used. The two units I ordered prior to this one were of another brand but they had to be returned because both of them were definitely used as evidenced by the water residue inside, the dirt and the smudges all over the housing. I also feel like the cord is a little short. I’d like to see another 18” of cord length.
Overall I’m satisfied so far, would recommend this iron and would purchase this iron again

After one use, you will return this iron
After one use I returned this iron because of the unbelievably inferior method of filling it with water.
Steps to fill: unplug iron, turn off steam, turn vertical (yes lay hot iron back down on ironing board), pour small amount of water until it runs out, repeatedly turn up horizontal to see if full, then finally plug in, turn on steam.
In addition, its hard to see if full due to tint of reservoir.
Main point: water goes everywhere even when you fill very slowly.
Because hole is small and poorly placed, you can't use glass measuring cup. You'll need a bendable plastic container or something with a longer spout.
And finally, the brand new iron spits up on clothes.
RETURNED. Problem solved.
While I wait for my ironing board to dry, will somebody tell me why this is the #1 iron on numerous websites?

Not Rowenta’s quality!
I bought my first Rowenta 15 years ago. After dropping and breaking it I thought I’d buy another because I loved it. Unfortunately, they don’t make them like they used to. It started leaking a month after purchasing!

Why Didi I Wait So Long To Purchase?
This iron is amazing. I have been using black and decker or sunbeam for years. I have wanted to spend a little extra to purchase a Rowenta iron ever since I took a private sewing class and the instructor had a rowenta and it was fabulous with all types of materials. I used my DW5080 for the first time this morning. A pair of pants that I've had for almost a year, and I have never been able to get the pressed the way I like without sending them to the dry cleaner. Unfortunately, I think the chemicals the dry cleaner uses ruins my clothes faster, so I don't like to send items as much, especially if the label does not specify to dry clean. So I used it this morning, and with one pass through with the steam on medium, these pants were pressed and after wearing for two hours I still have a crease in the legs. I love this iron, from now on, I will purchase ONLY Rowenta,

Not nearly as good as the 10 year old Rowenta it replaces
This replaces a 10 year old Rowenta iron. THAT iron could steam the Titanic, and the steam was instant and consistent. Every time I stayed in a hotel, I would use the $19 piece of junk in this room and miss THAT Rowenta.
I loved that iron from the time I took it out of its box until its spectacular demise that ended with a circuit-breaker tripping 'POP'. THIS iron, even when on maximum steam settings, often has a 5 second lag before the steam starts. The steam is not consistent. The lag adds up when you are ironing a dozen shirts.
Not a terrible iron, but seconds after I took my previous Rowenta out of the box 10 years ago I knew I would have a Rowenta iron from then on. I have to say this one isn't much different than what I could buy for a third the price at the local discount store. Very disappointing.

Never buy a Rowenta
This is the second Rowenta iron we purchased in less than 2 years. The reason I went with Rowenta in the first place is because it is supposed to be a solid, well made iron supposed to last for years. The first one developed significant rust in the water compartment within a few months. I had never seen that in an iron in my life. I use filtered water which is what I use in all irons. It got so bad that no amount of cleaning or solution fixed the problem. It had to be thrown out. I decided to go for a different model. While this one has not developed rust, it developed an electrical problem where it would not turn on all the time and now it has become useless. I’ve had cheaper irons last me for years and these 2 Rowentas have both lasted less than one year. This is not acceptable. Will never buy a Rowenta again.

Good but not perfect
I bought this to replace my old Rowenta iron, which I owned for over 20 years. I purchased it after reading product reviews on Amazon. After using it for several hours this morning, and am quite happy with the product. My one complaint is that the temperature setting is awfully easy to move by mistake with my right thumb as I shift positions while ironing and picking up the iron. It is a very lose control dial. I repeatedly had to turn the button back down to cotton when I felt the stalling one experiences when using an iron on too hot a setting. This was not a problem with my old Rowenta, but overall, I'd say that this is a good product. I am getting smoother results (fewer wrinkles) with this iron than I remember ever getting with my last iron.

Disappointing
I'm a quilter and I need a good, hot iron with steam. At first I loved this iron. I like a heavier iron to help iron my quilt blocks. However, after a year of use, it leaks like crazy! I can only put in a little water when I'm ready to steam or else it flows out the bottom. I have purchased several Rowenta, knowing they are supposed to be high quality and all have leaked eventually. So from now on, I'm getting the hottest and cheapest I can buy! Why spend big bucks for the name when it doesn't perform any better than the cheap ones?
