For over three years (sorry it took so long for review) I have been using this headset for gaming and can always hear where "they're" coming from. Very nice sound from the mic for online chat. The convenient volume adjustment on the cord uses a wheel for the earphones, and a 3 setting switch for the mic with high, low and mute. I'm giving this stereo headset five stars because it works extremely well for the price and has proven durable. My only complaint was in the beginning they would be a little tight as they use the plastic headband's curved shape to tension them to the head putting pressure on the ears with the convex shape of the plastic under the foam ear pads, and would make my ears hurt a bit because the tension was too much. However because they are durable - I was able to stretch out the curves of the head band on either side of the top piece, and after a while I could wear them for hours comfortably.

My previous, and primary headset is either identical or similar to Plantronics GAMECOM 1 PC HEADSET ( 67003-01 ). Mine are actually a different brand due to some wonky discontinuation shuffle, the details of which I can't recall, but for the sake of argument that is basically the headset I started with, and hoped to more or less match. I wasn't looking to get rid of that headset, because after a few years of heavy use it still works wonderfully, but I wanted a second comparable headset for my PS3 so I wouldn't have to move my headset around the house all the time. After some digging around on Amazon I came to these, the .Audio 655s. Initially the design grabbed me but I was further intrigued by the muting mechanic (lifting the mic boom) and the lack of a cumbersome in-line DSP unit (whatever one is) that my other headset has. Being that I live with people and play a lot of online games I found the mute feature to be appealing because it made when my headset was and was not muted more obvious and getting rid of the sizable DSP nugget allowed for less cord clutter in my computer area. It all sounded good so I went ahead and got them.Right out of the box I realized I made a glaring oversight in that I didn't evaluate the ear pads enough at all. They're padded to be sure, but the covering is a rigged plastic material that I wasn't expecting. I assumed they would soften up a bit with use and didn't think much of it at the time. From there I plugged them in to my PC for a test run and they worked perfectly. Later that day I hopped on to TeamSpeak for some gaming and was further satisfied with the incoming sound quality but a little less excited about the outgoing sound quality. There is no foam dampener on the mic which may have something to with it, but this headset's tendency to relay static and distortion was greater than my primary headset. It wasn't an overwhelming problem, but at times it would make what I was saying difficult to understand which was a problem I wasn't used to dealing with. After about an hour the comfort of these, or lack thereof, became much more apparent. The padding on the ear cups I could live with, but there seems to also be a high amount of inward tension which gave me a notable case of headphone ache, that head pain somewhere between a typical headache and getting smacked in the nose. Again it isn't a crippling detractor to the experience but you start to become increasingly aware that you have headphones on and you don't really want to spend more time in them than you have to.The comfort was a little disappointing to be blunt but this headset did come with a couple of features I was pretty fond of. Moving all of the volume adjustments to the headset takes some getting used to but ultimately I found that I preferred it more when compared to the in-line mute/volume controls of my previous headset. There's also some fundamentally nerdy satisfaction to pushing buttons on my headset, very sci-fi feeling. The raising-the-mic to mute feature seems to work. I wish there was more of an indication that it was working in the way of a boom mounted LED or something, but I so far haven't had any embarrassing "hey your mic is open" or talking for 30 minutes while muted kind of moments. At the end of the day I can't say I regret buying them, they're a decent headset at a decent price. The comfort is really the only thing I have against them but reading this as a potential buyer keep in mind that no two heads are the same, others may very well find great comfort in them and even I am still harboring some hope that with time they will loosen up more. There may be better choices out there in this price range, so I'd probably recommend doing some homework, but ultimately I would recommend these as a fair enough buy with some room for improvement.

In the past, I have used a Plantronics model that nests around the ears. I loved it. It was cheap, but had good sound and I could wear them forever. Alas! they are offered no more. So, I gave these a shot based on several good reviews here. For me, however, these didn't do the trick. I don't like the convex shape of the earpieces, which make the speakers"perch" on my ears instead of cradling them. I find this very annoying. They are also a little tight. Other folks might not mind; think about what kind of headset you are used to. I finally went with the Yapster TM-YW100A, instead. One caveat: Amazon charges almost $9 to return these, so ordering them just to try them out was not the greatest idea I ever had.

I am sound sensitive so if the sound is off or the bass is too much I get a migraine. Had the settings on my computer for a reasonable level through my speakers. When I plugged these in with the headphones on I literally ripped them off my head because they were blowing out my ears. Watched a youtube video to check on the sound. The video volume control was all the way up but Windows volume control was all the way down to 0 and it was still loud. Also my skull is small, with the headphones on the smallest setting it puts all the weight on my ears and none of it on the top of my head. I am returning these for another product.

If you're looking for this product for call center work, forget about it. Go with Logitech headphones of some sort. They are not only lightweight and durable, but have a mute button as well(I'm sure Amazon sells Logitech, so go with those). I don't think there was anything about this headset that wasn't a train wreck for me. To begin with: the headset is extremely bulky, and after a few hours of use your ears ache because there isn't enough room for your ear and the headphone set against it. They're heavy, and you can feel the neck strain and the headache after an hour or two of use.The mic mutes when you push it up beside your head, which is fine. Until you try to pull it back down again. In which case, don't be trying to use your mouse with the other hand. It takes one hand holding the headphones, and the other hand pulling down the mic in order to keep it from toppling off of your head. The sound is good, but the headset isn't worth the hassle. And don't drop it or bend it even a little. If you do, the mic stops working! Don't waste your money!

I was very disappointed. I have used plantronics products for years so I expected this item to be of high quality. There is a 3 position switch marked high, low, mute. The switch does nothing. The output is the same in all 3 positions. The volume knob works and the sound quality is good from the headphones. The mic is the real problem. The people on my calls complained that the background noise was louder than my voice. I will have to return this or throw it out. There is no way I can use it for business.

I thought this was a pretty good headphone/microphone set while it lasted, but after about 18 months of very occasional use, the left headphone piece simply stopped working. There was no trauma to the device, no hits bangs or smashes, it simply worked one minute and didn't work the next. All this with no warning at all. I thought that was a real shame, since the sound was very clear, the headphones are fairly lightweight and don't hurt the ears, and overall I liked the unit. Sadly, it didn't have lasting power. I rated it three stars largely because of its low price...had this been a more expensive unit, it would have rated two stars. I'll be looking for a better, if slightly more expensive, replacement this time around.

I plugged the headset in a at first it seemed to work great for listening. Then I tried Google Voice, which was why I bought it. Windows sees this unit as "Speakers" and as a "USB Headset" as a result Google Voice "assumed" that there was no microphone and I can't use it. Skype was a bit brighter and somehow saw the microphone. This would be a very good product IF Plantronics would release drivers for it so that Windows saw it as a "USB Headset".

I bought this mainly for gaming with my desktop (Windows 7, self-built, great specs)It starts buzzing every few hours or so and I have to pull the USB, and then re-plug.The sound settings all reset and it gets louder or softer and overall, it's just very annoying. I don't know if the problem is the headset itself or the driver, but I regret buying this product.Furthermore, the headsets are extremely tight. I wear glasses when gaming, but the two collide and compress my ears. Very uncomfortable.

The Plantronics .Audio 655 USB Multimedia Headset is not the first headset I have purchased from Plantronics, and most likely not to be the last. The price is great and the sound quality for the price is great aswell. Generally speaking these products tend to last a long time if taken care of. If you are looking for something with higher quality I would recommend looking towards Plantronics higher end line.

Ordered them October 20, by mid January the microphone was dead. I used them for Skype, so they're now useless. While they worked, they were pretty good (which is why 2 stars). Though the clip on the volume control snagged on things all the time since it points the wrong way (annoying). My last Plantronics headphones were great, and lasted through many years of hard use. I wanted to buy the same model headphone again, but of course they don't make them anymore. Too late for an exchange, too late for a return/refund. Feel ripped off by what I'd thought was a good brand.

I was looking for an entry level headset for nothing more than listening to music on my laptop and mild gaming. I spent hours of research time looking at reviews and product and also purchased 3 other headsets including, Turtle Beach, Logitech, and Sentry. They all pale in comparison to this headset. I finally found exactly what I was looking for. A headset that has 'presence" when listening to music. Great bass, and great clarity throughout the frequency range including crisp highs. Enough volume to feel bass drum kicks which is the way I like my music.Pros for this product include comfortable padding on both headband and earpieces. The unit is lightweight so extended wear is not an issue. The volume buttons on the left earpiece are awesome, easy to locate and in my opinion much better than the inline which you need to clip to yourself, limiting mobility or leave hanging causing you to fumble looking for them. The fact that the headset volume syncs with the system volume is a big plus so you are not playing with 2 different master volume levels and causing distortion. With my laptops sound-card I can then control specific volumes with the mixer while leaving the headset full volume. Totally plug and play, no software. Windows 7 saw and identified the unit as a Plantronics 655. Using the EQ in Media player provides an awesome musical sound and the headset can produce tone quality throughout the 20/20 frequency range. There are two cons of a small nature which by no means to me are a deal breaker: The chipset and all of the technology is in the USB plug causing it to be extra wide. In my case, I have a USB hub where this is not an issue but if you have a limited number of USB ports and they are very close together, this plug may interfere with the neighboring plug. The other con is that although the headset reduces outside noise well, the outside can hear the headset very well. I was told at full blast(which is the way I listen quite often) the music could be heard on the first floor of my home while I'm on the second.All-in-All an awesome headset. If you are looking for a price range of $35 to $50 you WILL NOT find anything better than these. Take it from someone who really did his research and returned plenty of poor quality headsets.Just stopped by to add that I have this now for about a month now and nothing has changed. Quality above my best expectations.

I have purchased a few pairs of Plantronics head sets in the past and they had worked out pretty well, so when I decided to upgrade to these I was pretty stoked. Upon receiving them, I tested them out and then packed them as I was preparing to head to AMS for work for a few months. Over the course of travel I used this head set primarily for gaming and the sound was pretty solid. Not studio quality sound, but had great clarity and range for the price. So fast forward to just over a year with the headset, playing some D3 the other night and I hear a very kind of robotic sound blast out of the headphones, and then complete silence. Not really sure what happened but one minute they were working just fine and the next thing I know they don't work at all. That's a pretty crap lifespan for the money I dropped. I'll be attempting to contact Amazon and/or Plantronics to see what they can offer for replacement and I'll update the review with how the customer service pans out. At this point I really can't recommend the product unless you like to waste money.

I've used a number of different headsets over the last year using Skype / Google Hangouts for working from home and this has by far been the worst. As soon I plugged it in and put on some music, the static was unbearable. Not only is the audio quality terrible, they are very uncomfortable - lots of inwards pressure exerted by the frame. I didn't use the microphone - this was returned to amazon after less than 10 minutes of audio only use.

So far, so good. I think the headset will adequately replace the one (not Plantronics) that died. Since I haven't had them very long, I cannot vouch for their longevity in use, but they seem sturdy, and I especially like the volume control on the left earphone -- very convenient, though once set, I hardly ever touch it. I have only positive things to say about the headset and wasn't deterred from buying the headset by the negative reviews. I took a chance and am glad I did.

The "I can't hear you" from both myself and the listener has become "Yes, I hear you clearly" during Skype sessions. After a very frustrating Skype session, I filled out the Skype survey pop up. The radio buttons I marked brought up another pop up on how to test my PC's mic and the gage bar reading was in the lowest quadrant. Somehow yet another pop up came up with several headsets. I liked the recommendations for this one and it was on sale. How easier can it get!I'm very happy with the whole experience.

Be careful not to pull off the ear phone if you walk away when they are still on you though. That is how I broke my last headset! But they are nice otherwise and not headset would not break if you stress it like that. I bought 2 more pairs of them to have on hand because they work well and the sound is good. I just have to remember not to walk away with them still on my head, they are so comfortable.

So sick of the crap they sell today I just hope even thought the cord is short these last more than 2 months? The headphones are built cheap as hell and not impressed with these new ones I just wish they still made the old headphones I had that had a 10 feet cord and lasted over 10 years but it seems that is asking too much these days.
