I play a lot of PC games online, and one of the main games I play is the massive online game known as World of Warcraft. Most online games require communication so having a microphone is vital, also I have made many friends over the years around the world through gaming that I keep in touch with via skype. Recently my old headset broke and I decided to look for something cheap that would provide me with good service for occasional usage since I do not play video games as much as I used to, plus I like to keep in touch with many people I have met throughout the years. After doing thorough research and coming across this item, I was needless to say a little hesitant at first due to the price being so low, but I decided to give this a shot anyways. I will be setting up my review in categories so it will be easy for you to decide if it is right for you.Body - The body of the headset is crafted from plastic and consists of a classic color combination of silver/black. The headset is designed to be very sleek and light in weight to provide comfort. The wire's length is very long about 7 feet, enabling you to move around the room and be comfortable while using them. The wire also has a volume control for incoming sound and outgoing volume control of your voice through the mic which is a very neat concept and works wonderful. The only con I have come across is that if worn for a long period of time, the headset seems to put pressure on our ears and eventually your ears start to hurt after about an hour of wearing them. Overall, great design and features.Sound - The sound quality provided by this headset is comparable to headphones within it's price range. The sound comes out very clear and has very minimal bass. Also the headphones volume can reach very high, so it is good for noisy environments or if your a person who prefers to listen at higher volumes. The sound quality is not phenomenal but good for the price you are paying.Microphone - The mic is very big in length, which is a good thing because if your someone with a larger sized head, it won't be getting stuck to your lips, hitting your chin or other irritating things. You can rotate the mic 360 degrees which gives you the ability to wear the headphones however you find comfortable. It provides clear out going voices and recipients will have an easy time understanding you. The only con is that the mic is not bendable to adjust to how close or far you want to put it from your mouth but it's not a huge issue considering it picks up voice very clearly. Great mic for the price.Overall it is a great product and provides top notch service. This headset has features most in its class don't offer within this price range, which makes it a wonderful buy. If your looking for a cheap headset that gets the job done, this is it. Hopefully I helped! Let me know if you have any questions or comments.**UPDATE 2/22/2013**Several months since my purchase, this product has been holding up very well and performs just as good as it did on day one. I still have not experienced any problems.

THE NUTSHELL REVIEW IS THIS:This product works VERY WEll. If you do not want to read my entire review, just take my word for it and buy it, because it works well and is very reasonably priced. Just be prepared to struggle in opening it out of its *nightmare* packaging.FOR THOSE WHO WANT MORE DETAILS:In honesty,I have to admit I initially purchased this headset for my computer. I take phone calls via the internet, but somehow, I find myself primarily using it more for my SANSA FUZE MP3 PLAYER( another fantastic product I got from Amazon). This is a terrific multi-purpose headset. It can be utilized in so many ways:By PC Gamers- those who use webcams or Skype type forms of online chat services and can be connected to basically any device that will accept a headset. It has enough wire length, to allow you to move from your chair a *few feet*,so you do not feel totally glued to your desk, if you are using it on a pc.The volume control for incoming and out going sound is fairly ample.( I do realize that the word *ample* is a subjective word when it comes to hearing and sound quality)Comfort of wearing the head set gets very high marks. This may be part of the reason I am using it with my mp3 player as I do tend to listen to it at long stretches at a time. With some headsets, they become either annoying or cause soreness and I have to take the headset off. With this PLANTRONICS HEADSET, I really don't feel like I am wearing a headset.BIG PLUS THERE!The Mic folds upward when not in use and you do not notice it.I would have given this 5 stars except for one major gripe. The packaging :-(I understand the notion of designing packaging to deter shoplifting and prevent damaged merchandise but this was just, well, OVERKILL.Just based on size and shape alone- it would be pretty hard to walk out of a store with this, unnoticed unless you wore a huge ski jacket. The packaging is oddly shaped and bulky. It would have been better to put a anti-theft sticker on a more streamlined package design. I did not note any kind of metallic anti-theft sticker on this package when I got it.So,yes- buy this headset because it really is a great buy considering the very reasonable price. But keep in mind, to have something very sharp to open the package and be VERY CAREFUL when doing so. Not only do you need to use something sharp to get it open- the plastic is very sharp in itself.I was using a pair of sharp scissors( all I had available at time)and I stuggled for 15-20 mins, trying to break the hard, clear plastic packaging shell. I did not see any indication of an area where one should begin to try to open package or a pull back tab.I am all for protective packaging but perhaps the key parts of the unit should have been fortifed for safe handling/shipping and the rest of the package should have been made of easier to remove material. The amount of plastic encasing the headset is also not environmentally wise- just another reason for not giving it 5 stars.PERFORMANCE AND PRICE- BRAVO!PACKAGING AND EASE OF OPENING- BAD!****UPDATE NOVEMBER 2011*** I have bought several of these headsets since my initial review because I really love them.Problem is- I shouldn't have to. I use this headset on my Mp3 player, computer and other electronics, so yes, I get a lot of use out of it. However, the only serious flaw I have come to learn that exists in this product is the wiring doesn't hold up well.It is deceiving as well; because you will find all of the wiring looks intact- but it shorts out on the inside-especially if you tend to use it on various devices. The only way around it( other than the Plantronics company addressing this issue) is to buy one for each device you have and dedicating strictly to that device, so it is handled less. I learned that constantly swapping the headset among various devices(excessive handling) will take its toll on this otherwise great and inexpensive headset.Again- I love the product-but if you buy it, consider this issue. For the price of the headset, you might not mind getting a new one when you notice the start of a short. By the same token, I learned for this price? I will get one for each device I need it for. FINGERS CROSSED PLANTRONICS EITHER ADDRESSES THIS ISSUE OR ITS NEXT EDITION OF THIS HEADSET DOES NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM.****SECOND UPDATE- GOOD NEWS: PLANTRONICS CHANGED THEIR PACKAGING AND IT IS FAR MORE EASIER TO OPEN

i recently bought these after being dissapointed with the razer kraken pro i purchased beforehand and these are vast improvement, they are very simple to use as they use a USB to plug in to your PC as opposed to the two metal jacks other headsets use, i didnt even know about the two buttons on the left side of the headset you can push in to raise/lower volume of the headset when i purchased it but they proved to be VERY useful when i realised it does as different tracks on my music playlist can be much louder then the previous songs and i can change very quickly, raising and lowering the microphone itself has proven very easy and convenient to do and people i talk to immediately began to comment how my voice came in so much clearer and less raspier then before.the only flaw i have to mention is that the included ear cushions are not as big as i had hoped they were, they pinch my ears alot and blisters already began to form, i had to take numerous breaks because of how incredibly painful it was to use as a result and i had given SERIOUS thought to buying a brand new headset when i realised i could just take the original ear cushions off and put on larger ones (like the ones from that razer kraken pro i forgot to return)i did and they work like a dream now, i can use them pain free and they are super comfortable now, as long as you intend to buy bigger ear cushions for it i can recommend this product to everybody and while it IS kind of odd that we should go through the extra trouble it isnt a deal breaker for me, great buy but if they had bigger ear cushions to begin with i could give it a five star rating

I purchased this headset from Amazon in October 2012. It was a bit stiff, and slightly uncomfortable, but all in all it was a quality headset that transmitted my voice clearly and had good quality sound in the headphones. After almost exactly 3 months, the product began malfunctioning. When I plugged the headphones in to same laptop USB port I had used dozens of times before, Windows detected a new device. Rather than being detected as a Plantronics .Audio 655, it was appearing as a "Composite USB Audio Device". The microphone still worked, but no sound came from the headphones.I uninstalled the drivers, removed the device, and reconnected the headset to my laptop. Exactly the same outcome.I had used the headset successfully on a second laptop, but the exact same outcome - Composite USB Audio, no sound, microphone only.I contacted Plantronics customer service immediately. They were fast and courteous and asked me to upload my dated sales receipt to process the warranty return. This is where things turned south.Plantronics website [...] states "Your dated sales receipt showing the date of purchase is your proof of purchase." However, Plantronics Customer Service refuses to accept a PDF version of my Amazon.com sales receipt, email order acknowledgement, or sales invoice.I am irritated that Plantronics Customer Service refuses to honor the policy they have stated directly on their website. If this situation is not rectified - if Plantronics will not accept a receipt from Amazon as a proof of purchase, I will not purchase their products again. If Plantronics satisfies me, I will change this review and sing their praises.

I'm giving this headset 2 stars due to the fact it does not list on the packaging or on the description that this headset is NOT compatible with Windows 7 64 bit. Yes, it semi- works, but there is a static like noise whenever I use Skype or Vent, people I speak with say my voice is really low (although the mic is turned all the way up). Also static when playing games or listening to music/watching videos. It's not super loud static, but you can tell it's there. I know it's not my ports, as my other headset works perfectly in any of the available USB ports. For those of you saying they work fine with Windows 7 64bit, let me direct you to this:[...]and if you look right next to the area where it says 64bit/32bit, click on 32 bit, yes they are compatible with 32 bit. When recording something that you speak with or for streaming live games, the sound from this is extremely low and that's with my mic turned all the way up. I had people complaining for 2 days straight about how low my voice was.I connected this set to my laptop that uses Windows 7 32bit and they really didn't work much better. I still had the static issue, my voice was a little louder, but not by much and I still had to turn the mic completely up.The earphones are about as uncomfortable as they come. If you're only using these for a few minutes at a time, it probably won't be a huge issue, but if you're like me and need to keep a headset on for gaming/streaming/chatting, it becomes very uncomfortable to the point where my ears hurt (and I have small ears)The volume control on the headset is really good, that's a huge plus for me. The mic doesn't completely mute when raising it, I was told and later verified in my videos that people were able to hear muttled voices (me speaking with my husband). These will most likely sit on my desk to be used as backup if my new headset stops working. I hate that I spent this money for these, but returning them would be too much of a hassle for me, so, lesson learned on my part for not going to the Microsoft website before purchasing these.TLDR:If you are thinking about purchasing this headset to use for gaming (WoW, D3, GW2, Rift, etc), keep looking for something better if you are running Windows 64bit.

I bought this headset to use in an online class that at the last minute decided we would be using a skype style interface and required a headset with built in mic. I checked the prices at the local big chain stores (target,wal-mart,best buy, etc) and none of them had anything in the price range of this headset.Pros: For me I wanted something not too bulky that I can toss into my laptop backpack and not have to worry about them sticking out and the Plantronics headset is perfect for that. I have a fairly large head (wear a size 7 5/8 fitted baseball cap) and these fit perfectly even for me wearing them extended periods of time I noticed very little strain on my ears or the top of my head once I got them adjusted to where I needed them. The headset is clear and the microphone works as good if not better than I had anticipated. The inline controls worked well and the overall assembly seems pretty tight and not too flimsy.Cons: Everything is plastic and even though it should be sturdy enough to handle anything I have my doubts about that. The speakers aren't super high performance or what I would want for listening to music or playing video games if high stereo quality is a must for you you're going to have to spend more for something higher quality than this. The mic is adjustable and it works fine but there is a certain stiffness to the fully adjustable extension mic support that just leaves me feeling like it takes almost too much force to adjust it closer or further away from my mouth as though I am getting close to breaking it.Overall the value for the money is top rate, I would highly recommend these to anyone needing a headset that you don't have so much invested in that you worry about it breaking/getting lost/etc. This is the headset for you. If you want something to use for hours on end gaming that the double as a music listening headset then you might want to look somewhere else. For the price though, I really don't think I could have bought a better headset.

I ordered this after having two less-than-successful attempts to use a Logitech Vantage for VoIP on my computer. The Vantage's audio quality was amazing, but the "made for PS3" headsets didn't seem to last very long before either the mic or the earpiece cut out.I like single-ear headsets and finding a decently-reviewed USB one was kind of a challenge. Enter this...thing. I had problems when I first got it, but not enough problems to warrant the hassle of sending it back and waiting for another new headset, since I was already waiting for this one because my previous one broke. Every once in a while in Vent when someone would transmit, the earpiece would 'scramble' it, adding in a ton of feedback and electronic hiss. It didn't happen terribly often, but it was terrible when it happened, but since I only use it for VoIP and it otherwise sounded fine, I lived with it.Literally days before 6 full months of ownership, the thing is now useless because the earpiece no longer works. Given my history with headsets, I took extraordinary care of this one, hanging it out of the way when not in use, never adjusting the boom past my first use, etc. After some testing, I found the problem: the wire that connects the headset to the little black plastic volume/mute controls is internally loose. If I push the cord further into the volume controls, the wire connects and the earpiece works. As soon as I let go and move my head at all (there's no clip to keep the volume controls from just 'hanging there') the wire becomes loose again and the earpiece cuts out. This is only inside the volume controls, from the outside the wire is still visibly fully connected.I contacted Plantronics to inquire about warranty information. Both their website and the auto-confirmation email assure you that a representative will respond in 24 hours. After not hearing from them for 40 hours, I emailed them again. Will never buy another Plantronics product again. I highly recommend nobody else does as well. Sure, if you don't get a defective unit, it may be worth it, but mine was "off" from the get-go and now I can't even get the company to answer their own support ticket.

I made this purchase to use for work, as I work from home, and this is by far one of the clearest, loudest headsets I have ever used and I have used many headsets for work in my time. It was super easy to set up. I plugged into my computer at first and it installed on it's own and was up and running. I work in a Linux OS and I plugged my headset in before booting into my desktop and the headset automatically picked up and all I had to do was change the output to the headset and save the settings. The only con I have is mute. I can't seem to find a mute on this headset and working in a virtual call center-like environment that is a little annoying. I intend on Googling and updating this review with what I find in case someone else is having issues with muting. It's not enough to just lift the boom, so to speak, it needs an actual mute option. Overall I would recommend for anyone with a Windows 7 64 bit system as well as Linux. If you have issues try the following:Windows 7:Plug in the headset. When the headset is plugged in go to your audio options and make sure the Plantronics is what's selected as your input audio and your output audio. Play some music or go to YouTube and the sound should be coming through the headset.Linux:Plug the headset in. Click on Computer and go to Audio. Make sure the radio buttons for input and output are selected. Adjust the volumes on both. To save the settings hit Alt + S. You should be set to go.

Good things about the headset:The headset overall is nice to wear. Your ears doesn't get warm, and it doesn't hurt to have it on. The Mic is really great! It's USB and is easy to get working. It's also quiet good at playing music, the sound is good. It's a great headset for gaming, listening to music, chatting with your friends etc.You can hear yourself which i prefere, and it's made a VERY nice way! It's also easy to mute, by just pulling the mic up.Cons:When playing YouTube videos it have a weird sound, and can glitch the sound totally. This is not every single time but often. This can though be fixed by taking the USB out and in of the computer. If your sound it too loud your mic might catch it and there will appear an ecco for the partners you're talking with, not for you.You can hear yourself, and what you say into the mic, but it appears at the exact time you say it, so it's actually kinda nice. I actually love that feature, but everyone might not.Overall I recommend this headset. Even tho theres a few bad things about the headset, you'll love it. It's at a good price. I use mine all the time, and I am absolutely happy for it.Please notice, this is a review written from a MAC, and there may not appear the same bugs at a windows computer.

I bought this as a replacement for my aging headset for use with Skype and to listen to music. While I liked the design aesthetically, I found the earcups to be slightly too small to comfortably fit over my ears. The head piece had a comfortable cushioned pad, but I felt it put too much pressure onto my ears. The cord was also quite flimsy, and I fear that it would not hold up to extended use.The microphone mute feature when it is swung up and out of the way is an interesting touch, but I would consider a simple switch or button to be more useful. My computer runs Windows 7 X64, and I noticed a substantial loss of audio quality when compared to my old headset, which was not a Plantronics. While on Skype I was told that my voice sounded tinny and as if I was speaking from inside a metal box.Pros: Solidly constructed; soft, thick cushion on headpieceCons: earpieces slightly too small to be comfortable for long term use; sound quality is not on par with similarly priced competitors; headset cord was too thin to be sturdy, long termAfter using this product for a few days, I've made the decision to return it and look for another product.

I've been trying to find an affordable/cheap headset with microphone, and if possible, a mute button. The Plantronics .Audio 326 headset fulfills my criteria, since when I bought it, it was $10.87. I just received this headset, so this review is of a new headset. I'll try to come back and edit my review to reflect any quality changes if this headset breaks or something in a few months.FIT - This headset fits pretty perfectly for me. It snugly lays at my ears, without squeezing my head or making it hurt after a few hours of study. I can sometimes have a headset on my ears for 10 hrs in a day, listening to class lectures. So, if it's too tight or uncomfortable, I'll find out quite quickly after studying a couple days with it on. This Plantronics .Audio 326 headset fits comfortably.BUILD - This headset is well-built. Everything looks about as well built, if not better, than the other headsets I've looked at under $20, both on Amazon, and at Walmart (online & in store).SOUND - The sound quality through the headset, as well as the microphone, are both crisp and clear.MUTE BUTTON - I really like that there's a mute option. Unfortunately, the mute button on the headset that I received does NOT work. I think I may try to exchange this for one that has a working mute button.

I read through a ton of reviews before deciding on this Plantronics set. I needed something to work with Skype. My old set is falling apart but still works; regardless I wasn't happy with the vocal quality. I got my new headset and there are things about it that don't work for me. The actual physical design of it is really uncomfortable. The ear pieces are odd, the mic points straight outward so if you plan to move your hands near your face be aware of that, so overall I don't like anything about how it fits. The sound is clear but is in desperate need of tone adjustments. I podcast weekly and use Skype all the time. I've been recording myself with technology since reel-to-reel. I think I have a good idea of what I sound like. This headset turns me into Janice from FRIENDS. "OH.MY.GAWD!" Not kidding. There's no bass in the sound at all and I sound like I'm in a cave. The set gets 3 stars merely because it works but it doesn't work well.

The reason I am not giving it 5 stars is because the headset band that goes across the top of my head is awfully hard and somewhat uncomfortable though I have gotten used to it. It would be good if they put a little padding on the underside of it. As for the quality of both the sound and the mic - I found it excellent compared to the one that came with my Dragon Naturally Speaking - the Plantronics mic picks up my voice much better. The ear pieces don't shut out the surrounding sound too well, but that's okay for my use since I need to hear also what's going on around me - family talking etc. I had read that the USB plug-in was too "fat" for some USB spaces, but at least on the front of my computer where I have two horizontal side-by-side USB ports, it works out fine - fits with no problem. It was a snap to "install" - just plug and play. Volume on the ear piece is nice but I usually forget it's there. All and all I am pleased with my purchase.

I got this headset for Christmas, and I gotta say, I'm quite happy with it.PROSFairly ComfyGood quality audio and soundUSBInexpensiveCONSThe ear things are a bit small. I have fairly small ears, and it hurt after a few hours of gaming. They feel a little cheapIt's easy to change the volume accidentallyThey pick up a little background noise.OVERALLFor under $60, these are a great buy. I am an avid gamer (I even have a YouTube channel: youtube.com/nemesysgaming) They are comfortable, inexpensive, easy to use and work well with my ASUS laptop.UPDATE: 3/26/2013Still holding up well. The USB connector part has broken multiple times (I'm holding it together with duck tape). It also appears to be having microphone issues. The mic is picking up as much bg noise as the computer mic. I am looking at picking up a new mic, but this is a big problem, seeing as I can't make videos without a good mic. One thing has gotten better though - I found myself listening to Gramatik - Moar Jive, and it sounded unbelievable. I had never heard something so crisp and clear. These are great to use as headphones, but as a full headset with mic, I might just have to stick with some earbuds. at least they have better mics.

I bought a headset because I wanted clear sound when using Skype, especially for job interviews. The USB interface makes this very easy to use with Ubuntu Linux (I assume it's as least as easy with Mac/Windows). Plug it in, select the input/output devices in the sound/volume control windows, and voila!Pros: Testing with Skype I found the microphone to be excellent: my voice is clear, and the microphone seems to pick up every nuance. Going to mute is a simple matter of flipping up the mike, which I thought was a lovely, intuitive way to do it. The headphones also provide crisp, clear sound.Cons: The headphones lack the low-end response I get with my ~15-year-old Optimus headphones, so I won't use the headset for videos or music. And despite the legend, "Incredibly Comfortable" on the packaging, this headset is not nearly as comfortable as my other headphones. I can see my ears getting sore after 20 minutes or so.Other: Having volume controls on the earpiece is a bit odd, but with a little practice it becomes pretty easy.Overall though, the value for the price is very good.

This is not an audiophile headset, nor is it a gaming headset. But for everyday use, it's nearly perfect. The unit seems fragile but has withstood my clumsiness thus far, and the fold-able boom is very convenient. Sound clarity is good, and I have had no problems with microphone sensitivity. Bare in mind that I am incredibly picky, as I actually do research in a speech pathology and audiology laboratory at a major research university. The bottom line is that this product is not INTENDED for gaming or listening to high-quality music, but it does its practical job incredibly well. No complaints other than lack of long-term wear comfort from the meager earpads, and that's about all that I can ask for from such an inexpensive product that I use primarily for making Google Voice and Skype calls. I also especially enjoy the fact that it utilizes a microphone and headphone jack pair rather than USB; I use too many USB ports already!

UncomfortableIf you *think* that your head is average or above-average in size, you will find these headphones uncomfortable. I can't imagine wearing them for the duration of a 30-minute call.Power HogI needed these headphones to connect through an external keyboard to my laptop (Macbook 2007). When I plugged them in, my computer alerted me that 'the USB device can't draw enough power to function.' Partially because of my setup, and partially because the headphones's USB plug has a surprisingly wide profile, I can't plug directly into my computer (the USB plug's width would essentially render the other USB port useless.)I'm returning these headphones in favor of Logitech's H390 headset, which I know will fit my setup, and -by comparison- isn't nearly as tight a fit.Save yourself a hassle, and don't buy the Plantronics .Audio 655 USB Multimedia Headset.

A pair of these were purchased for me as a gift from a friend. I'm a casual gamer and the game that I am playing the most right now requires the use of voice chat for coordination. The audio quality for these is awesome. I'm hearing sounds from the game that I never picked up on through the speakers. In addition, the microphone keeps my voice crisp and clear without having to practically yell into it. It will pick up anything from a whisper to a regular speaking voice. My only complaint is the shape of the ear muffs themselves. You get used to them after playing for awhile, but towards the beginning they are a little uncomfortable because the back side top corner always ends up in the top part of my ear pushing against it. That may just be because I'm used to an over the ears headset.Overall: I would recommend to friends that they purchase this headset. If you don't want to pay for some of the more expensive sets, but still want good quality, go for the Plantronics .Audio 655.

I purchased this for use with Skype and language learning software, and it functions as expected. My only complaint, and the reason I did not give this product 5 stars, is that after wearing them for about 45 minutes, it begins to hurt my ears, and I need to remove it for a while. I suspect this is the case with most headsets (judging from reviews of other headsets giving the same complaint) The microphone works very well with language learning software. The speakers are quite sensitive and one needs to turn down the output volume in your sound control panel to prevent distortion. Overall, I recommend this product.

First off I have a piece of junk headset just like this that attaches to my desk phone. It works flawlessly and comfortably. The cord did not fit my cell phone and I just wanted a compatible cheap set so I can make a few return calls at the end of the day and take notes on the calls. (Yes I am aware there are blue tooth devices. I don't want one for in the shop) With this headset I had to buy an adapter so I could plug it in the phone. I have yet to get this headset to work properly connected to my phone or my computer. Every time I try its a different issue. But even more importantly to that I would rather fill ear muffs with killer bees and wear that then wear this headset for 5 minutes. It is the most uncomfortable headset I have ever put on my noggin. And honestly i am not that picky. I would deal with some discomfort for the hands free happiness but forget it. I see myself eventually driving over them to satisfy my frustration.

I bought this to replace a similar priced cheapie headset and mic I bought from PC World a few years ago that was just plain wearing out. When I installed this one, it seemed ok until I called someone on Skype- even at it's lowest setting for volume it was way too loud as heard by the other party on the phone and I was unable to lower it further. It works ok as a headset to hear music and movies on my laptop but for the use I wanted- Skype- it didn't work so well. Note to manufacturer- saying you are Headquartered in California but have "facilities" in Malyasia and China means you shipped these jobs overseas to the rest of us. I assume that's why your packaging doesn't say where it was made for fear we'd not buy it.

It was not visually evident and could be more clearly marked. Found this adjusted volume in computer and not in the head set. I have hearing problem and when my wife and I are both on Skype (me on headset and wife on web cam audio) there is a problem setting the best volume level for both. A minor problem, but did not anticipate. Easy to use and comfortable for me. I can not hear clear via telephone, but this makes conversation very clear.
