Other than the above this was a great phone for the price especially. for the first 6 months to a year, daily use the battery would be down to 20% or around there on day 5-6. If you're gonna have a big phone ( i always got the smallest ones i could find), may as well be big because of the battery! Towards the end here it'd be day 3-4 for that battery level. One thing that extended it as well is this thing can be set to turn off at a certain time, and then turn back on at a certain time, so I'd usually let it shut itself off for a bit and then back on early the morning, giving it a 5 hour break or so during the time of night where nothing can wake me up anyway.
The side "custom button" could be setup to do 3 different things - on tap, on hold, on double tap. This let it still be usable for a single hand for me as i'd have that button do various things like open my text messages if i was holding it in such a way that my other fingers couldn't reach an app because the phone was too big for the spot on the screen wasn't reachable without using my second hand.
So, despite the waterproof issue - i'll probably buy one again anyway because of the other benefits, for now, the phone's taking a rest and drying out - we'll see if it's ever recoverable. The fact that it keeps trying to reset has me hopeful a little bit.
Set up was straight forward, some of the apps off the old phone no longer exist which after 9 years of use have become second nature, I was able to link them via laptop and a few widgets, and apps made the trip.
Sim card insertion (will take two) was simple with tool provided. New style cord end will require a complete change over. A very short 30"+- cord is included and a plugin charge module.
Lots of settings allowing privacy by switching GPS, Networks, Bluetooth, OFF on the home page, but not mobile connection.
Google chrome is preloaded and has a fault/error code which is preventing use, although all the other Google stuff works?? Tried to reinstall but no go. Something for later.
Three other issues: it's a big battery so it's heavy. (after ten day report: battery is no better than light weight phones, still needs an evening charge if you want a full second day use)
also the volume, revive and function buttons only require a VERY light touch to activate, they are not protected or recessed, thus easily bumped.
The screen is not protected so any movement when it's lying on it's screen ( while on speaker) it disconnects or goes to "hold" or you pick.
The charge port is on the bottom edge and is covered (to make it waterproof) with a "plug" that is attached with a molded-on rubber cord. Broke the first use, very inconvenient, poor design.
Overall it seems like a lot phone 4G for the money, we'll see.
After 10 days now dropped calls, won't dial out very poor reception within short distance to towers, and folks I call can't hear as the speaker is buried in armoring, looks like a return to vendor, p.o.s.
UPDATE: 10 months later - full charged battery still lasts 2 days +, the phone still switches between apps quickly. The only thing I've noticed, the videos we take on my wife's Galaxy seem higher quality than the videos I take on this phone. This could be user error on my part. For under $200, this is a good buy. Super durable. I've dropped many times and the phone still looks great.
update they did get back to me and fixed it
That was the first thing I said when I lifted it out of the box.
That was the first thing my friend said when I handed it to him.
And, that will probably be the first thing my coworker says once quarantine is over.
Unlike the video, I have not driven over it, used the display to crack open walnuts, frozen the phone in a block of ice, freed the phone from selfsame ice by chucking it out of a third-floor window, submerged it in boiling water, or buried it in the sand.
I have dropped it multiple times, and the freedom from the "OMfG! My phone!!!" mental jolt is indescribable. The ability to continue to stream from YouTube while doing dishes or otherwise cleaning up and not having to worry about water damage is also great. The touchscreen does a fantastic job of working while wet, too.
With the gargantuan battery, I either can forget to charge it and still go about my day as usual, or I can play Girls Frontline all day from a full charge. Can't do both, but let's don't be silly.
Last-but-definitely-not-least, the humour value when you throw down this super-chonky phone can't be beat. It weighs like half a kg, so when you throw it down, you throw it DOWN.
Takes excellent photos. Slow to focus some times. Great memory storage - on board and chip.
The only problem I have encountered is the external and internal volume. Quite weak compared to other phones, still useable. This needs to be tweaked by the manufacturer, should be a simple fix. This is why I did not give it five stars.
Battery is awesome, have gone several days without having to recharge.
I have two of these phones, personal and business. I have recommended this phone to others and when the time comes to replace these, i will check with OUKITEL first.
We haven't gotten the chance to check out to see how waterproof it is yet, but I'm sure when we go on vacation this summer we'll get the chance.
It seems to be a well constructed phone and a rather good value
My husband was impressed with the sound quality and volume..it was far better than his old phone.
Pictures are clear and detailed when taken as well, that was important to my husband as well as he takes a lot of before and after pictures of his work.
The only con we've encountered so far was there was really no manual that came with the phone. Just a small couple of pages that weren't extremely detailed.
But all in all this phone seems to be just what he wanted, of course we haven't had it a long time yet but so far we are happy.
The blutooth started to not function and then when I tried rebooting the phone it went into total locked screen mode unable to turn off the phone or do anything but endlessly reboot it and have it be froze.
So that being said while it was working I'd have probably rated it around a three star (maybe even a 2 star). Reasons there being that the phone did have the annoying habit of closing off running background apps and services in spite of having turned off battery saving features and whitelisting apps anywhere any everywhere that I could. It was particularly bothersome with music playing since it kept killing music apps. Did similar with weather and even email apps. The other negative I found which was somewhat deceptive on the listing for the phone was the front indicator light only works for the battery and doesn't do anything as a notification for emails or messages or anything.
The upsides of the phone included a pretty amazing battery life, good loud clear speakers and microphones, good bright flashlight, and that handy programmable side button. It also had decent recessed buttons from the rest of the armored frame that made it fairly difficult to accidentally hit the buttons (as compared to my old beaten up Ulefone armor 2s that I'm back to using now until I get an alternative replacement). The camera on it seemed to be quite good, took fast clear pictures and good video (although the resolutions were a little odd compared to what I was used to on previous phones). At the time it was reasonably peppy speeds using apps and internet browsers.
So had the phone continued to work I would have probably kept it until it was run down like my previous one, but it definitely did not last...
I've had my new Oukitel WP5 Pro for six weeks now and it performs flawlessly. I stuck it in a HualuBro case which fit my new phone perfectly. Snug as a bug in a rug, as they say.
I use the Oukitel WP5 Pro phone daily, letting it charge while I sleep, but even if I forget to plug it in for a couple of nights, it still has enough power to carry me through the following day, no problem. The battery life really rocks.
Durable, tough, clean and fat, it's like the double-stuffed (famous cookie) of smartphones.
Delicious.
It came charged and could not have been much easier to setup... Just put in my sim card (the door is hard to open but there is a tool included to help), isigned into my Google account and waited while it installed my data and apps from a recent backup and checked for updates.
The phone is heavier and thicker than I expected but feels solid. Everything including the fingerprint reader works well.
After using it the first day to watch videos and play games for 10+ hours I still had 45% of the battery left.
The programable button in the side is a handy way to turn on the flashlight &/or open the camera quickly.
The camera isn't amazing but it is more than adequate.
About the only thing I could wish for would be a headphone jack but with the difference in price between this and a name brand phone of this quality I can buy a nice set of wireless earbuds and still be ahead!
Its every heavy!!
No headphone jack
No wireless charging
Finger print reader is on the back
