** Dear Amazon/TABLET DISTRIBUTORS, you sent me the wrong phone. This one does not have a US Warranty.**It cannot be overstated how good the camera is on this phone. I have had great fun playing with it and it worked so well that I was leaving my SLR at home more and more. But I have no choice but to return it.For the record, I am among the last die-hard Nokia/Symbian fans having used Nokias almost exclusively since the days of pre-Cingular AT&T wireless and the Nokia 2160. I have so many retired Nokias (and chargers) it's pathetic. I (predictably) moved to the 808 from the brilliant Nokia N8 which I absolutely loved.So it is with a heavy heart that I send my 808 Pureview back to Amazon. Here is a short list of what has gone wrong:- Utterly unstable. Unlike with my N8, Spotify and SportsTracker cause the phone to restart constantly. I have not been able to record a single workout and I celebrate when I can listen to more than 20 minutes of music without a reboot. Google Maps for Symbian, though unsupported for years by Google, worked well on my N8 but crashes unpredictably on the 808. Nokia Maps, for me, is not a reliable substitute for Google Maps.- Loss of tethering: apparently, due to FCC rule changes, using JoikuSpot Premium (which cost me $10) to tether via adhoc WiFi is no longer possible on the 808. Infrastructure mode has never been supported by Symbian. So Bluetooth/USB tethering is the only option which is highly inconvenient and not an option on my tablet.- I have been suffering from the 3G drop-out issue, where, for no reason, the phone drops off AT&T's 3G network and I am unable to receive calls or texts. I thought Amazon temporarily pulled the phone until this was corrected so this is a big disappointment. This means I also have to find an adapter or get a new SIM to use a backup phone while waiting for a replacement which leads me to my biggest problem.- Despite "U.S. Warranty" in the description, what I received from Tablet Distributors is not a US phone. I entered the IMEI into Nokia's support page hoping for warranty replacement only to receive the error, "Out of Warranty in the U.S.A."So the phone is going back and I am writing this review, not sure what to do next. I still need a new phone. Do I risk getting another 808 (I love the camera that much) or finally abandon the Nokia ship and get a Nexus 4 and separate camera (Canon's S110 comes to mind)? I may update this when I make a decision.Hopefully this helps someone.Update - 3/10/2013I ordered another 808, this time directly from Amazon and for more money. The first thing I did on receiving it was to verify the warranty. I was relived to see that it had one, so I proceeded to re-install all my apps, setup my email, re-install Spotify and Maps, etc.. The same problems resurfaced almost immediately. Falling off the network, rebooting at random whether I was using it or not. I wear a Bluetooth headset throughout the day and I could hear the headset disconnect and reconnect while it was rebooting in my pocket. So I called Nokia and spoke to a service representative hoping for a little empathy and a quick replacement. At first I was told to RMA with the vendor. When I mentioned that I had already done that, I got barely restrained contempt as I was instructed to type in the address for Nokia support and fill in their form for a service request.Turnaround on the service request was quick though, 5 days instead or the 7-10 days I was promised. I got a different (rebuilt) replacement. It had a different IMEI number, MAC address, etc.. and, curiously, the MAC address seemed to be older (at least numerically earlier) than the one I sent.After leaving AT&T with my fifth new SIM card in two months, the phone rebooted, without prompting, three times before I could leave the parking lot. I quietly hoped that it was just the new phone installing updates (though no firmware updates were needed, just bundled software). I set about installing updates, re-installing my apps, setting up my GMail account (which I now have to use via IMAP as Google has disabled Mail for Exchange support), re-syncing Spotify, setting up Maps. The phone is STILL as unreliable and unpredictable as ever. I spent nearly 12 hours before realizing I had no phone service and no data the following day, because this phone, my third 808, had dropped off the network. Then it frustrated me ever more later that same day, while driving, for 10 minutes straight while I had to pull over to wait for multiple reboots to get it to work long enough to use the map for directions. I have only had phone number three for two days as I write this.I am officially over it. I cannot in good conscience recommend this to anyone. I am about to send it back to Amazon for a second refund, which may be tricky because it is not the one I purchased.In conclusion, do not buy a Nokia 808. If the camera is what you're after, and it remains excellent, get a small point-and-shoot and a real phone from anyone else.

Nokia Lumia 900 wp7, a set back in evolutionBase on price and moment in cellular evolution you would expect this expensive beautiful designed smart phone to work at least as easy and practical as any basic cell... Well this is not the case with this toy..THIS IS A VERY COMPLICATED PHONE!! - FORGET PRACTICAL USE WITH THIS GADGETSimple, practical and easy is not part of the philosophy in this phone..Things you might be used to do on a couple of clicks, here they take 5 to 6 actions away (or more) and time consuming and frustrating results in many cases.. Understanding and finding your way around with Nokia Lumia 900 wp7 is a very high time consuming effort .. So if you are a busy person and like technology to improve your timing working routing, this is not a phone I would recommend.. Because many "Basic" cell functions are missing in the software wp7, and the only option you'll find is to search endlessly the "market place" to find app that may or may not suit your needs, download them, install them and use them for a while to see if they really work for you.. (mean while consuming the phone memory capacity) And if you are like me, you would not want to pay for apps that you have no proven knowledge how they work... I don't know where to start in singing the praises of this phone. I am NOT a TECHI so wasnt looking forward to trying to get used to a new phone. I have been searching for something that I can use to replace the need for carrying around my small laptop/notebook. I tried a couple of other 'smart phones' but found the screens too small and just found them difficult to use in general. I also didn't want to spend over £200 on a phone. I thought I as being too picky and unrealistic. Then I saw this phone and it seemed to tick all the boxes!

It took me very little time to set it up and start using it. I love the Windows system. It is much better than the Android system on my other phone. The battery lasts much longer too. The screen size is just right for me as I can see things clearly and the touch screen control makes it really easy to use.

I would really recommend this for anyone who is looking for a high quality smart-phone at a reasonable price.

Synopsis:I received the Nokia 808 one week ago (from "Tablet Distributors" an Amazon partner VERY quickly), the week before Thanksgiving. My previous phone was the Nokia N8 which I love. But I'm a sucker for an amazing camera in a phone, thus the new phone.The 808 gives an amazing leap forward with its camera experience, offers some well deserved and performance improvements across the whole phone's operation, and a number of design improvements. Some of the standard and well loved performance features of Symbian are here too, features other phone os users have to pay for. The keyboard, a function which Belle (the Nokia OS at the time) surpasses all other smart device OS keyboards, has had a massive redesign, a move which will irritate and alienate many Symbian defenders, but with a week's use (or maybe two), they will be comfortable with.General speed improvements can be felt throughout all activities with this phone compared with the N8 or E7. No lagging, email hangups, or apps which are not sure if they want to open. Everything is waaay snappier than other smart devices I've had, including the tragic mistake of the Transformer Infinity which I returned.Just so you know, my base of comparisons for smartphones & devices: I have owned several Nokia smartphones (n95 (amazing camera & my first smartphone), E7, N8) and owned Android and iOS devices. I am familiar with all of these. And utterly love my N8. So nice.Camera:Skipping the obvious and amazing 41 mp camera and Pureview tech, the camera offers improvements and corrects annoyances from Nokia's other premium camera phones. It's way faster than other Nokia camera apps, opens faster than my other Nokia phone apps, takes pics faster once started, faster on the next pic. Camera app opens instantly. I mean it. There is ZERO lag. When you want to snap that perfect sneaky picture, the camera is ON and the pic is TAKEN end of story. No waiting. This is a big improvement over the N8, which, though its camera is probably STILL the 2nd best camera in a phone on the market, took awhile both to open the camera app and then had to cogitate over taking the picture. There are more camera options, all of which are more streamlined imho. Changing the options is super fast too. And the pic minimization routine at the end of the pic is quick too. Overall it's super fast and super good.There really is little need to expound on the camera. It is as good as, or likely far better than, most point and shoots and even hangs with DLSR's. Though it is slightly bigger than the N8, it is still not big enough for all the unicorns which obviously power the camera, so, they must be at the end of Bifrost in the galactic black hole. Or something. It's a pretty amazing camera.Key features:Like I said, I tend to go with a great camera phone, regardless the manufacturer. It just so happens the manufacturer is often Nokia. That's nice because I think Nokia phones are in general very well put together, feel solid in the way that closing the door of a high end car sounds solid compared to a very cheap one. Nokia phones feel like quality and the 808 is no exception here.The Map apps included in the phone or downloaded for free from the Store make the 808 equivalent or better than any separately purchased GPS device. Nokia Map related apps are amazing, free for life, and work offline, or via a range of GPS updating methods (3-3.5g, SMS, unassisted). Voice guided directions (walking or driving) everywhere on Earth? Got it. Public transit? Got that too. The GPS can work standalone with zero cell signal just like a separately purchased GPS device, or can work across the network signal (a-GPS), bluetooth, or even via SMS (text message). I like this because it lets me control data usage. A couple of Map apps you might want to try: World Gaze (interesting) and City Lens (love it, somewhat of an unsung hero imho).The 808 also conforms to the typical Nokia design philosophy which gives me control of my device and what is on it, and loads it with tons of codecs. A decent file browser is there. I can see where apps are installed, change the location to a memory card if I like, and the apps go with me to a new Nokia device. I've done it a million times. I love it. Nokia makes transferring everything from an old phone to a new one easy, and gives you several options on how to do it: backup/restore feature, transfer to removable memory, across Nokia servers, or turn on bluetooth and everything transfers locally. Nokia phones also let you toggle all the antennas, and with apps like Situations, you can automate and fine tune it. Also, more functions are supported in bluetooth in Nokia Symbian devices than other smartphones (even compared with Nokia Windows devices). Android devices almost come close to this level of device control, but, just, not quite. I like to control my own device.Other good stuff:The screen is super vivid. I have now had 4 Windows/Nokia Lumia phones and I love them all because they are so easy to use. I ended up getting the phone (Lumia 1320)
because my previous phone (Lumia 1520) screen broke.
But onto the review of this phone.
It is nice and big so brilliant for videos, surfing the web, texting and games.
it's great that you can add extra storage space to the phone and most apps can be downloaded to the micro SD card.
the speaker from the phone is good and not flat, so if you are watching a film or listening to radio it can give a good amount of sound off.
The battery life is brilliant, it will last around 2 days with good usage. can not fault it there.
One of two things that lets the phone down are
its very slow to load some apps and I have tried running the app through the SD card and straight from the phone and some games even lag at the start. (comparing to the Lumia 1520 for example)
you can easily accidently press the camera button by accident, Microsoft have now got rid of that button on the New Microsoft phones.
overall I really like this phone but it does not compare to the Lumia 1520 which had a superior camera, it ran much faster and was just better in general. I got it because I could no longer get the 1520

Let me start by saying, I have been using Nokia Symbian-based phones since they first came on the market, and I was very upset when Nokia dropped Symbian OS for Windows when it offered the Lumia line - WHY, Nokia, WHY????Melodrama aside, even though I was unhappy, I wasn't ready to move to another brand, so grumbling and snarling, I decided to take the plunge and buy a Nokia Lumia 900 when my old E71x started gasping. I'm reviewing the Lumia after having had it for only 48 hours: I got it one evening and almost sent it back the next morning - I was that frustrated - but it has so much potential that I couldn't do it. To some degree I have mixed feelings: it has some cons that try their best to offset its many, many pros, so I've given it a rating of 4 stars.--Pros:I've found that, overall this is a really sweet phone, in spite of its operating system. I say that last, because I have had serious issues migrating from the old Nokia (like, you CAN'T. NOT.AT.ALL.NEVER.). Ah, for the days when one could back up the old Nokia phone and restore to the new one ...If you're used to Windows Mobile or Blackberry OS you'll love this phone out of the box, although it involves a learning curve no matter what. It beats out the iPhone with no problem, in my opinion: it offers a lot more for a lot less money. I had an iPhone for a while, and was, shall we say, 'underwhelmed'.That's not the case for this phone, it can do anything an iPhone can do, and more; and I think it does it much, much better, more reliably. It has some heft - its neither light nor tiny - but it has a metal chassis. Otherwise, it's smooth, sleek, feels good in you hands, and the touch functions have to be experienced to be believed. It is really simple to operate, too.The Lumia 900 has three buttons on the right - okay, four: the volume keys, the on/off button in the middle, and the camera key near the bottom. The home icon also acts as 'back' and 'close'. Get into something you don't like? Hit the Windows 'home' icon. Locking and unlocking the phone originates with the on/off button, and a sliding screen.The high resolution screen produces colors and objects that pop - they are just that crisp and bright. 'Zoom up/Zoom down' are performed using two fingers on the touch screen, and you can view your screen in landscape or portrait orientation. To silence a call, just flip the screen over - flip silence, I think it's called.It has high-end camera optics, and Nokia provides a free app that gives you the ability to take panorama and NICE zoom shots - the camera is almost SLR quality.Nokia provides a free navigational app that's been available on all of its phones the last few years: anywhere you want to go, they can get you there. Mapquest is available as a paid app, and google maps is accessible from the web. My phone can talk to my car (go figure?), so I'm loving Nokia Maps. I need it, because I get lost, a lot.Call quality is consistently clear, sound is free of noise. I don't drop calls, and I live on the Texas coast where cell signal is sometimes non-existent. I wish the volume of the music player was a bit better for use without headphones or speakers, that's the only complaint I have about that.That all said, here are some of the cons:I am not one of those folks puts contacts, etc. online, syncs everything with Outlook, Google, Facebook, and the like, so it was very difficult to even move my contacts. I was able to move them using bluetooth, finally, but even that was a pain. You must download an app to do it, because the lumia won't talk to its Symbian relatives through bluetooth (or anything else) at all without the app. Unfortunately, the app is designed to only move contacts and there are no others.In my experience, this is the first time I've run into a phone that a Symbian OS phone can't communicate with, and that it's from the same manufacturer, is a real shame. I did try to pair them; the Symbian phone thought it was paired, but the Lumia paired, then responded, 'not supported', and closed the connection. A family member has a newer Symbian OS phone than mine, and the Lumia won't talk to that one by bluetooth either.As if this wasn't enough, I found moving my library of .mobi, Kindle, Audible, PDF, Office, and other documents was not fun - I'm still doing it, in fact. That exercise has involved 2- and 3-stage transfers. I've been bluetoothing from the old phone to my PC, then from my PC to my Lumia, then moving them around to where I'd like to have them rather than where Windows wants them. And forget about migrating EMAILS, text and mms - the support pages tell you to back it all up on your PC and use the 'appropriate software' to work with them on it. They will never exist on your phone again, gentle Symbian user.I couldn't send texts or messages either for a couple of days: this phone does not have the AT&T internet settings in it. Normally that isn't a problem: lots of phones ship without the AT&T access point name (APN) settings, but

Camera: 6 out of 5 (Yes it's that good for a phone)Okay this takes the most absolutely amazing photos for a phone. Shooting in 38MP is simply stunning. The detail is very nice but does come at a cost of noise. But the photos are still very usable. 8MP Pureview mode, is a notch down from 38MP but gets lower image noise. The photos are still stunning. But the thing about this phone is you have to know a thing or two about photography to get sharp and crisp photos. Some people are expecting DSLR quality because of the money they paid but are not thinking this is still a P&S camera. No control over shutter speed or aperture. So you have to be very still when snapping pics. So when taking pictures indoors with low light without flash be sure to be very still when taking pictures. The shutter speed will likely drop to 1/15 a sec to allow more light in. Something an experience photographer can do but not your average Joe.Video and Sound Recording: 5 out of 5 (Video not as good as pictures but sound is excellent)Video recording on the device is better than all other phones but not that dramatic jump you get from the camera. The sound recording however is superb. It is comparable to $50 - $100 external mics for camcorders or DSLRs. The best sound recorder on a phone.Design: 4 out of 5 (Not better than the Lumia 900 but very close)Another thing that surprised me was the design. Looking at pictures on the internet led me to believe that this thing is big, bulky, ugly and thick. But it really is not. I love the design and build quality. Way better than the N8 in my opinion. I love the material they used. It almost feels like smooth ceramic so not too slippery and not too much grip where dirt can cling to it.Sound and Signal: 5 out of 5 (Excellent speakers and sound quality)Speakerphone and handset speaker is excellent. A lot louder than the n8 without losing detail. Not the high pitched tinny sound either. The signal strength is better than my n8 as well. I believe because of the material of the phone. Also the headphone jack and Dolby headphones effect are very good.Screen: 5 out of 5 (Good colors and contrast. Bright screen allowThe screen is very good as well. It has an extremely bright screen that works well outdoors with lots of sunshine. It probably has the best screen for outdoor purposes. A lot a reviewers are saying bad things about the resolution but to tell you the truth, they're full of Sh** and basing it on specs. I bet they had a magnifying glass and were counting pixels. I did a side by side with an Iphone 4 and could not tell any difference in terms of text sharpness. But the screen is bigger with better colors and contrast. Load up a website and see for yourself. Text is sharp and very readable. Even @ two feet away. An improvement over than N8 in terms of sharpness even though the resolutions are the same and the screen is bigger on the 808. iPhones needs retinas because the screen is small which leads to small text. So the text has to be sharp to be readable. Just like other amoled displays, the screen is bright, lots of contrast and saturation. Great for viewing home screens, apps, photos, etc. But that can also be a con as well. When snapping photos, I don't want all that contrast and saturation. I want to be able to see what's on the screen and when the picture was snapped, be exactly what the screen was displaying. I wish screen adjustments can be made when taking photos and videos. If I were to choose screens for the iPhone or the 808. I would pick the 808 even though the iphone has higher resolution. The screen size, contrast and colors are much more noticeable improvements than the screen resolution. Also the outdoor viewing on it is amazing. Also the deepest blacks I've seen. It is almost as black as the frame border of the lcd.OS: 3 out of 5 (Lack of apps, browser speed and Nokia Store. But still very functional)Coming from a N8 phone there was really no learning curve for me. I was already familiarized with the settings and navigating through-out the entire OS was a breeze for me. Swiping through Home Screens, Scrolling through the app drawer a Transitioning from Portrait was smooth like butter. There were occasional micro second hiccups when transition the first 38mp photo. But after that it was smooth. My real problem with Symbian is not with Symbian but with the apps the come preinstalled. For instance, the browser. It's like IE6. Slow compared to the latest version of Chrome. But it is still very functional. If you compared the browsers to cars than the GS3 would be a Ferrari, Fast but likely to crash. Iphone4S would be like an accord. Good ol' reliable. Then the 808 as a Hummer, slow and clunky. Another issue I hate is the Nokia Store and no I'm not talking about the small number amount of apps but with how long it takes to install. Also when installing it need to download other things as well like downloading 2 of 6. Do I really need to know that? Just do it under the covers. A 2MB a

The previous reviews have pretty much covered all the important aspects of this phone, so I will focus on the improvements of this phone over Nokia N8, the older brother of Nokia 808 PureView. I have to point out in the beginning that 808 PureView is gorgeous despite the perception that the media tries to give about this phone.Unlike all the fuss in the media about the huge size of 808, it is really not much bigger than N8. If you put them next to each other, you will realize that they almost have the same width with 808 being slightly longer and thicker. To my surprise, it gives almost the same feeling as the N8 when I hold it in my hands. The bulge at the back of the phone has also been criticized by the media. Surprisingly, however, that bulge makes the phone fit snugly in one's hands.808 is definitely heavier than N8, but not that much. I was worried about the weight of 808, again caused by the media, but to my surprise, the weight is comfortable and not annoying at all.The texture of 808 is really amazing. You have to feel it to understand what I'm talking about. I was worried that the phone would slip out of my hand, but to my surprise, I found that it is made of a material that is not very slippery, unlike N8 which is rather slippery. In fact, it would be hard to drop this phone.The screen resolution of 808 has also been the subject of a lot of criticism by the media, and I was worried about that. To my surprise, I found the screen resolution to be not bad at all. Unless you hold it rather close to your face, it will actually feel really nice. N8 has better resolution due to its smaller screen size, but that causes one to hold it closer to eyes. The larger screen of 808, on the other hand, makes you not have to hold it close to face, effectively compensating for its lower screen resolution.The display is phenomenal; better than N8. The colors are live and vivid, and sunlight visibility is phenomenal. I had no trouble seeing the widgets and browsing even under noon sunlight.Audio quality, both through the speaker and the headset, is phenomenal; again better than N8. The speaker is louder than N8, which is a great plus. When I listen to music through the headset, I feel almost no noise. It's pure music. Very imressive and amazing.The Camera is - human languages lack an adjective that would deserve the outstanding and phenomenal quality, power, and resolution of 808. World of difference from N8 of course, (even though N8 is still better than any other phone camera besides 808.) But 808 can challenge if not beat DSLR cameras. The full resolution (38MP) photos are from another planet. I keep zooming and zooming and zooming on these images, and it feels never ending and it doesn't lose its quality after so much zooming. My only complaint is why 2MP, 5MP, 8MP, 34MP, and 38MP, and nothing between 8 and 34?!!!! Hopefully a future update may add some more resolutions. In terms of video, 808 has no problem recording the most magnificent videos at 1080P/30fps. Quite impressive that it has lossless zoom for both images and videos (not for full resolution 34MP and 38MP, though). I also wish that the lens had a cover/slider like the Sony Ericsson Satio (which I consider to be the best camera phone design ever). The sensor on 808 is protected by Gorilla glass, and it is indented slightly, which is helpful for protecting it from scratches. I definitely recommend a case which introduces more indentation at the sensor area.The camera of 808 can be started even when the phone is unlocked. This is a great advantage compared to N8. (The only way to enable this in N8 is by installing apps such as QuickCam). However, if you start the camera from locked screen and then exit the camera app, the screen will not lock automatically (whereas QuickCam has the ability to do this).The camera app launches literally immediately after pressing the dedicated button (all the way). I was amazed at how fast the camera pops up (compared to N8 where there is 1-2 seconds of delay.)The SIM card and microSD trays have a very nice and gorgeous, but delicate design; you have to be careful to not bend/break them when inserting SIM or microSD cards. I find the N8 design better which makes it easy to insert sim and microSD cards. Also note that 808 PureView uses microSIM cards, while N8 uses miniSIM cards.***** IMPORTANAT: if you make your own microSIM card by punching a miniSIM card, you have to make sure that you tape the contacts side of the card leaving exposed only bare minimum area over the contacts. Unfortunately, 808 PureView uses a metal SIM tray, which can cause shorting of the contacts with the tray on a home-made microSIM card. This causes the phone to lose connection after a few hours of turning it on. It also leads to random restarts and general instability of the phone. This phone is nothing short of a dream come true for any remaining Symbian fans -- all 3 of us! Prior to its introduction at MWC last February, I was getting a bit dismayed by the lack of good choices out there. I was getting bored with my aging Nokia N8 from 2010, but almost 2 years later, nothing else could match its camera, its offline navigation, its connectivity options, or - this may be a bit of a surprise if you read too many blogs - its usability. The prospects of another bone thrown our way from Nokia were pretty slim too: In 2011 Nokia's new CEO, Microsoft lackey Stephen Elop, gave the Symbian OS the death sentence and instead hijacked the company as a tool to use in a last ditch (futile) attempt to promote Windows Phone, thus _instantly_ killing off Nokia's then-40+% share of the global smartphone market.Then - out of nowhere - came the 808 PureView! It was a manna from heaven - as if a divine being had intervened and finally spoken some sense to Nokia! I can't remember having been this excited about a new phone since... well... the N8. I simply could not wait for the official US release here on Amazon, and instead purchased the black version from an importer - warranty be damned! Of course, more sane individuals will want to get the US version here instead. :)This review is quite long, but I figure if you are seriously looking at this phone, the more information the better.UPDATE Oct 4, 2012: It is with a heavy heart that I now have removed two stars from my original 5-star rating. The phone overall is spectacular: The camera, Nokia Maps, and the build quality in particular. However, there is a very serious bug that causes spurious loss of connectivity or reboots when connecting to certain 3.5G (HSDPA) cells -- see the "Bugs" section below for details. The bottom line is that I had to disable HSDPA, and now get only "plain old" 3G (UMTS) download speeds. While this works OK for light "day to day" use, including live streaming with Nokia Internet radio or downloading podcasts in the background, it becomes noticeably slow as an internet device (or tethered gateway for another device).UPDATE Nov 4, 2012: OK, back to 4 stars. I recently "upgraded" to a Sony Xperia TL recently, an Android device which (aside from the Nokia 808 and N8) is one of the better camera phones out there. Turns out, it simply doesn't hold a candle to the 808, especially indoors -- and that seems to be the case for just about anything else out there. Also, I immediately found myself immediately missing the Nokia Belle user interface - I find it to be a just a bit "cleaner" and less cluttered than Android - while at the same time not being completely dumbed down to iPhone levels. The first/current batch of phones a capacitor on the main board to be changed. I am having a hard time with this review because for the most part... I actually do LOVE this phone!Not from a Techie... Just a typical average phone user.... With emphasis on the PHONE!!!!! I am one of those Blackberry fans though. I have had three and recently traded my Blackberry Torch in for the new Nokia Windows phone.I have a friend that got the Samsung Windows phone when it was first released in 2010... He absolutely LOVES the Windows platform and says it is the best phone he's ever had....In part I agree with him and in part I do not.....I've been playing with my new Nokia 900 for a little over a week. I split my time up between Dallas and Tyler, TX. My house in Tyler has horrible reception for pretty much every phone and wireless carrier that has been in the house. I am lucky if I can get 2 bars anywhere on the premise, including the outside patio. My Blackberry had several dead spots and the reception was affected if I shifted my stance or posture even while standing or sitting. I have had zero problems with my Nokia. The same two bars in the house, but zero interference. I can walk around and neither I nor the person on the other end can hear any difference.... Absolutely amazing!!!!5 stars - Dallas is LTE and Tyler is not. All internet searching in Dallas over the LTE was so freaking fast! I was amazed. I think it is faster than my home computer. Not the case with the Nokia Lumia. It feels sturdier than any phone I have held... I will not throw it to the ground anytime soon to test my theory... Somehow I notice a huge difference in the sound quality when I play it over Bluetooth in my car or hook it up to my home speakers. I turned on my Bluetooth in my car for a 2 hour drive, and it would randomly start reading emails at random times. This may be a user error with some set up feature I have not found yet.... I'm over 50 , not technically minded in the least but I am the mother of 3 sons and I bought them one each of these phones for Christmas . My sons are in their twenties , are all into technology and they all said these phones are great ! I read the other reviews before I bought these for Christmas . They have been using them ever since and haven't moaned....YET !!

Bought this phone despite some negative feedback from other reviewers. At first all seemed ok and the clarity of the screen is fine I found the sound and picture to be very good. I did notice the phone gets hot so be prepared for a burnt ear. After a couple of days the phone started shutting down on its own without warning. Then after about a week it went off and wouldn't turn back on. This phone looks good but the quality is of low standard. I have returned this item and awaiting a refund. I gave it one star as was unable to give it no star.

Refund was received within a couple of days so whilst the phone was rubbish the customer service was faultless. Thank you.

This just might be the best smartphone for $99 (subsidized) and if that's your budget read no further- go and buy it. I am a long time Android user and have had at least five Android phones including original Galaxy S, G2X and Galaxy S2. I would consider myself a power user having tried many custom roms including CyanogenMod, software mods, Voodoo Sound, and themes on my Android phones. Android is the best for those that love customizing their phones. You can customize pretty much anything on Android. My last phone was an iPhone 4S. I jailbroke it as soon as it was available to get themes, some quick settings, and third party apps from Cydia. The iPhone 4S is the most fluid phone I know. The camera on it, is probably the best 8MP camera in smartphones currently (12MP Nokia N8 and 41MP PureView 808 will beat it though). The integration within iOS is very good and UI is mostly consistent throughout. iOS has the most apps (600,000+ apps) and way more high quality apps than Android. Additionally, the Apple's App Store has the most music, videos, books, and podcasts as far as I know. After a while I just couldn't stand the 3.5" screen of the iPhone after having used to the 4.3" screen on Galaxy S2 before. The 3.5in LCD screen strains my eyes 10x faster than the 4.3 SAMOLED screen. I decided to get another screen with same size or bigger, but didn't want another Android because I was kind of tired of how unreliable and glitchy Android can be.I took a chance on the beautiful looking cyan Lumia 900 since it has the same 4.3 screen. I was new to Windows Phone, wanted to try out the new OS and didn't expect much from it other than that I heard it's very fluid and stable. Now I am amazed by both the Lumia 900 and Windows Phone OS. Windows Phone OS is very easy to use and in my opinion, it gives you better user experience than both iOS and Android.Like any OS, Windows Phone has some features that I would like to see. Three features missing from my Galaxy S2 are native divx/xvid support, Adobe Flash plug-in (1080p Flash works fine on SGS2 with Exynos chip) and a file manager. Built-in dictionary that works everywhere in the OS, like on iPhone with iOS 5, would be nice and Emoji for fun.Setup is very easy on Windows Phone. A computer is not needed at all. Login or create your Windows Live account with the current email account you are using from another email provider. Use the Nokia's "Contacts Transfer" app from the Marketplace to transfer your contacts from another phone with bluetooth to the Lumia 900.LTE 4G is super fast (4-5 bars = ~17-19Mpbs, even with 2 bars = ~4-8Mpbs, ping is 70-80ms with 3 bars in Dallas)Superior call quality (Very clear audio and loud; 5/10 volume is enough for me in most situations)Very good signal reception (Better than any smartphone I have used. The phone is solid and apparently very well made; which is what I'd expect from Nokia. This is the first Nokia phone I've had in probably 10 years; but my prior experience with them was that they made excellent phones and this one doesn't disappoint. The only thing about the physical phone that I'm not overly fond of is the power button placement. It doesn't cause me too much grief but because it is in the middle of the phone on the right side, I have accidentally pressed it a few times when picking up the phone and while using it. With that said, it's not a problem, just something I would change if I were the designer. Also, as with many of the phones I've used over the last several years, the in-call audio could be louder. I don't have a real problem hearing but if the audio were any lower, I definitely would have a problem; whereas, if it were louder, I could turn it down if needed. I switched to the Lumia 900 from a Motorola Atrix (which is an excellent phone) because I've been looking for an opportunity to try out Windows Phone (by the way, the audio level on my Atrix is close to perfect). So far, I like the Nokia very much. As a phone, it is pretty good. The signal strength on my Motorola is slightly better than the Nokia but other than a few times when my data signal has been flaky in places where I normally would have a better signal with my Motorola, that hasn't been much of an issue (I haven't had any missed or dropped calls; just intermittent data connectivity a few times and in this case, that's more of an AT&T issue than the phone because I'm on the borderline between Edge and 3G where this happens). The external speaker on this phone is excellent. I don't buy a phone for the camera but the camera works well enough for me. I wish the phone had a LED indicator to alert for events such as missed calls, new messages, etc. My Atrix has this feature and it's pretty nice. The battery life has been acceptable. It lasts all day for me and I charge it every night, just like I do with all my smart phones. The Atrix battery is excellent, better than any smart phone I've ever used (and I've used a lot of them), so I am somewhat spoiled to that but I haven't had any problems with the Nokia running out of juice prematurely. The screen is bright, responsive and performs well. I leave the brightness on auto adjust and it works well; I've had some phones where I had to control the brightness manually because the auto adjust didn't work well in bright light. All in all, the Lumia 900 is an excellent device which is why I gave it 5 stars.I fully expected to miss my Android phone more than I have because the Android phone is more like Windows Mobile used to be. But so far, the Nokia hasn't let me down. I do like the ability to highly customize the user interface that you get with Android but the Metro interface is not really designed for that; it's a new approach to the mobile UI and it does what it does very well. It actually took me two to three days to get used to using Metro over the desktop icon look and feel of Android but I seem to have acclimated to Metro fairly well. The live tiles are very nice once you get them arranged the way you want. It's like any major change in life, it takes a little while to adjust. With some changes, that adjustment never really pays off but the Metro interface is a nice and unique way to work. There are some things that could be better and are in other OSes and at the same time there are things that Windows Phone does better than others; that is common when comparing competing software of any sort and to be expected. So far, I haven't run into any show stoppers on Windows Phone.I use my smart phones to stay current with my e-mail, to make calls and for general internet access. I do also use 3rd party apps but I'm probably not as demanding in this area as some. I like to have a few games to pass the time when I'm stuck in limbo for whatever reason (Doctor's office, airport, etc...). I like to have a good weather radar, GPS navigation, Amazon shopping, book reader, common information search tools, and a few utilities for my job as IT Manager. Windows Phone Marketplace has apps for all these things. In some cases, the apps are not the ones I used on Android but in most cases they work about as well and in some cases they're better. There were three or four apps that I had on Android that I didn't find an alternative to but they weren't apps that I use very often and they aren't anything I can't live without.I'm a technical person and I generally like to have more control over settings and such than Windows Phone provides (it's a lot more like iOS than Android in that regard) but I've been using it now for a few weeks and I'm not having withdrawals or anything. I just moved back into my iPhone 3Gs after 2 days with the Lumina. First off, I was attracted to the Lumia 900 for its gorgeous screen, the LTE speed, the speed of the phone processor and the fact that I could get it for about $18 (after the promotional $100 credit from Nokia). I really wasn't shopping for phones and have been pretty happy with my iPhone, but I couldn't pass up the cost/features of the Nokia (at least that was my thought process).Positives-iPhone vs. Nokia 900:Speed of the Nokia kicks Apple's rear end into next week. Waiting several seconds to pull up an iPhone app that does not even access the network is getting a bit old. This was true on WiFi and especially on AT&T's rocking LTE/4G network. The screen is gorgeous and responsive. There are some real flashes of brilliance in the Windows OS, among these: Office (Excel, PowerPoint and Word) mini applications that actually work and were intuitive. The Music app worked great and looks amazing. After spending the last several years in the Apple-verse, I was blown away by the general feel and artist-specific graphics that floated behind the song playing on Zune. The Nokia was superior in handling my gmail account and especially integrating my google calendar. While iPhone works, it is not good if I have to invite people to a meeting or add reminders. AT&T's code reader comes standard so you can scan all the UPC, bar and QR codes right out of the box. The maps/GPS works great and are a lot more accurate than the iPhone positioning. After just a couple of days it was apparent that the phone / radio was superior on the Nokia (not too surprising) I was able to make calls in parts of my house that are certified iPhone dead zones.Negatives-iPhone vs. Nokia 900:I am pretty technical and logical and made a minimum list of things I would need to have in order to be happy with the new Windows 7 phone. And although I have a lot of iPhone apps, I really only use a few of them ... one of the big ones is a password keeper I use several times a day called "Splash ID" and it is not yet available for Windows 7. The Splash guys say it "should be out in the Fall of 2012." I considered using one of the other password keepers out there that work on Win 7 phones, but could not find one that synched and backed-up to my desktop like Splash ID does. Strike 1 against Lumina. This really is just a function of the early adoption phase of a brand new product--the details and bolt-ons are just going be less developed. In a few months I bet a lot of these issues will be solved by the market. Strike 2 was that it became a lot harder to access my daily Podcasts (that are exclusive to iTunes). In fairness, the guys at the AT&T store say it's possible to access iTunes from the Zune app and I would have figured this out eventually except for strike 3.The kiss of death for me was I was not able to transfer MY 2,500 contacts from my iPhone to my Nokia--WTF?!! In fairness, this is really Apple's bottleneck. But in my case it was a deal breaker. Apple is, in essence, holding my own data for ransom. Good job!! It's my data, you only have it because I synched MY Outlook contacts with your stupid POS (iTunes, with your greyed-out configuration options) software years ago, but now you won't synch it back. I tried for 4 hours at home and the AT&T guys used their magic and failed. Again, this "early adopter" issue will probably be solved soon by the market, but in the meantime I need my stuff. So I am staying with iPhone for now but won't buy another one--even if I have to retype all 2,500 of my contacts. I like the iPhone but I freeking HATE iTunes software.A few general observations, I kept getting the feeling that the Windows 7 options were about 85% of what I needed or was used to on iOS. Examples included no apparent way to view browser bookmarks, change browser settings (safe search, etc...), fewer controls on the Win 7 Netflix app and a rather clunky app search procedure.You may say it's not fair to heap some of these (Apple) negatives on the Nokia Lumina 900, but I think you need to know what you are going to face in moving from iPhone to the Nokia. If I was getting my first phone, the Lumia 900 would get an easy 5-star rating from me. It's a great phone, but given my issues in transferring I can only award three at this early stage.UPDATE (4/22/12): I initially rated the Lumina 900 Win 7 phone a 3 star because of some apparent shortcomings vs. what I was used to on iOS, but I tried again based on some advice and response to my initial post (thanks Nokia fans!) I can now say I am a happy Lumina user.I can get my favorite podcasts through Marketplace. I was finally able to transfer my 2,500 contacts in about 8 minutes over Bluetooth using a sweet Nokia app called "Contacts Transfer" (released 11/28/11). The previous comment regarding its camera is unfair. It’s a perfectly adequate rear camera and, IMO, takes better quality than I expected photos. If photography is your thing then buy a ‘phone with a better camera (or buy a camera).

It needs a lot of software updating (perhaps newer stock wont?) so a WI-FI connection is essential for a start. And it’s still not the really up-to-date Phone8.1 even after all the updating it won’t do the folders thing with the tiles [6.11.14].

It should be noted that Windows Phone lacks apps. For example, if you are into downloaded vids then you will have to add the Moliplayer app (which I thought came with the ‘phone from some UTube vids I’ve seen, but does not) which costs £1.99 but, since I’ll be using it every day, is a trivial expense really. Also, if, like me, you need to transfer files back and forth a lot (PC, Andriod devices etc) then you will need a Wi-Fi enabled file app; there is only one true contender and that’s ShareFolder Explorer (it’s not a patch on FSExplorer but does the job) which is another £1.99; you can get round this using a usb cable and a file manager on your PC but cable connections are not ideal for frequent use (the charger cable supplied works just fine); or Skydrive (sorry Onedrive) but doing it that way is slow and a real PIA.

Lastly, I use the 3 network which has an app for Andriod and IOS that lets you use the ‘phone as a ‘phone via Wi-Fi but there is no version available for Windows Phone. So in poor/no 3 signal areas, which there are a lot of, you have a problem. Come on 3: get your finger out. If you use 3 and frequent poor signal areas where you need to use the ‘phone then this ‘phone is not for you until 3 gets its act together.

So I've gone full circle since my first cell phone, a Nokia 5165. Since then, I've had a Sony Ericsson, Nokia 6070, Motorola V300, Sony Ericsson w200, Nokia E71, the first Google Nexus, Dell Venue Pro, Samsung Focus, HTC Radar, and now back to Nokia with the Lumia 900.As most people would agree to, Nokia is known for its great hardware. My E71 was elegant and well-built, but it was bogged down by an archaic OS in Symbian, with settings buried in layers upon layers of menu.Nexus was my first touch-screen phone; it was a premium handset at the time, but I found the Android OS to be less than stable with some apps crashing. Dell Venue Pro had great screen and physical keyboard but it was unstable before the NoDo update - and I bricked it trying to upgrade the micro SD card! Samsung Focus was the best of the first-gen Windows Phones with a great screen and upgradeable micro SD; I bought it unlocked and used it on T-Mobile, but that kept me from getting 3G speed. So I changed my prepaid TMo plan to unlimited 4G and got the HTC Radar with "4G" capability. It is very well-made with its own unibody; I actually like its camera with HTC features (panorama, face detection, burst mode); the drawbacks are the screen with a regular LCD sized at less than 4 inches, and it had only 8gb of storage.With the Lumia 900, Nokia delivers another great hardware complemented by a great OS in Windows Mango. It is the best phone I have ever owned/used - for now at least. I've been using the Lumia 900 since 4/11/12. Here are the pros and cons:PROS:1. Mango OS - simple, intuitive, and stable. Sure, Android is more configurable, but that makes it more complex to the average user, and it is less stable with more applications crashing. I've never owned an iPhone, but I've used it; surely it is simple and buttery smooth, but the UI has gone stale with the static icons. Windows Phone is more dynamic with the live tiles, with less emphasis on apps and more on getting your tasks done by having what apps do separately on other OS get done in one place.2. Screen - colors are vibrant, blacks are deep black, and easy to view in direct sunlight. It looks awesome indoors! Gorilla glass makes it virtually scratch-proof. 4.3-in screen is just right for Goldilocks - not too big, not too small.3. Unibody design - it stands out from your typical Android bricks and iPhone glass cases. It's sturdy and elegant at the same time.4. Nokia Apps - Drive navigation app is well-done, and the fact that it is free and does not use data makes it even better.5. Battery - before the update, battery lasted for about 8 hrs.; the update fixed that issue, and now I get 24 - 36 hours on average usage (email, internet-browsing, Facebook), and about 12 - 15 hrs. on heavy usage (audio/video streaming). This is even without using the battery saver mode.6. Call/signal quality - Voice sounds clear, not muffled. Signal has not gone below 3 bars. Wow, it is a phone after all.7. Find my Phone - Not many people mention this (or maybe are not aware of it), but with any Windows Phone you can locate/ring, disable/lock, or erase your phone online should you lose your phone, or should someone steal it. The website has some kinks, but it does work.8. Price - an LTE device with all of the above attributes for $50 plus a $100 credit? How can you beat that?CONS:1. The micro-SIM tray is flimsy. It should not be a major problem unless you switch SIMs frequently.2. The Nokia apps are not pre-installed. This does not make sense at all. (The US map [1.8gb] took me half a day to download on Wi-Fi.) The good thing is they are free and of good quality.3. Only 16gb of built-in storage. Surely it is nice that Skydrive gives you 25gb in cloud storage, but -4. Skydrive does not let you stream a music/video playlist without a third-party app. You have to play your files one at a time. Hopefully this gets fixed on the next OS update (Apollo).NEUTRAL:1. Camera is okay, nothing spectacular. Then again I have never used a smartphone with a life-changing camera, including the iPhone. Waiting for Pureview on WinPhone!2. Number of apps - Do people really need 500k apps??? I have all the apps I need on Windows Marketplace. Some apps are overpriced, but the prices should go down once there are more apps (which means more competition).3. I don't mind the lock button in the middle of the right side. I'm getting used to it, and I find that it's easier to unlock/lock the phone with my right thumb than having to lock/unlock it with my index finger if the button were on the top. The location is supposed to make it easier for left-handers.4. LTE speed on ATT network - The speed obviously depends on where you are. I get usually 3 bars at my apartment (in Culver City, CA), where I get 5-7 mbps on average. With 5 bars (in Westwood/UCLA), I was able to reach 15 mbps (the maximum on the Bandwidth app I am using). As a long time IT professional, gadget junkie and smartphone user since the beginning, most people assume I love Android devices. While some are great, the last thing I want to do at this point of my life is fiddle with my phone after working with technology daily. I want my stuff to work without a lot of time invested. Add to that my last Android, a supposed dual core powerhouse, was the slowest smartphone I have used to date. With that said if this was my younger days I would probably welcome and enjoy all that Android has to offer, even now I can certainly appreciate it.I used blackberry for years. Not a very entertaining device but as a communication device it was one of the best. Great reception, great battery life, great email, great phone calls and speaker, and very durable too. In business those are the "must have" requirements for a communication device.I used iphones for a while and my wife has since the first one. While they are certainly a wonderful device with great build quality they just have/had too many issues with those "must have" requirements. It seemed to me that communication was an afterthought. I also never cared for Apple's approach to customer service. I know many people claim great experiences but that is not the case for me. And that includes for the iphone and other Apples products. I am also a certified Apple technician and had the great displeasure of configuring, administrating and intergrating Apple systems into networks back in the "appletalk" days. What a nightmare!!! Add to that their proprietary nonsense, case requirements and being forced to live the "Apple" lifestyle and they are just not for me. Plus the way the handles the antenna issue just erked me. Once again, that being said I can understand their popularity. With a great industrial design, typical Apple build quality and ease of use, many people find them a pleasure to own. It's a shame really that they require a case that covers up that beautiful design. Antenna issues aside they still need a case due to fragility. What is the sense?When the new windows phone came out I was not even aware of it. As an old Microsoft beta tester I was asked to try it. I used a windows 6.? phone once and hated it! While it was functional is was huge, slow, had the worst battery life of any phone I ever tried and was just plain boring.I recieved a Samsung Focus with the first software version. The hardware was typical Samsung, the look and feel of cheap plastic made the build quality seem poor. I powered it up and within 30 minutes of use was rather impressed. Even my wife, a graphic artist and life-long Apple devotee, was impressed with the functionality of the OS. It seemed to have even greater simplicity than the mighty iphone. OK, lets see how it does day to day. I synced up my contacts and put down the Android device I had been using at the time. After a week I was even more impressed. It certainly held up to the claims. I found it quicker to accomplish daily tasks and stay organized. It was fluid, intuitive and a real pleasure. There were only 5,000 apps available and the OS was missing some simple functions that were really requirements, but I saw the possibilities! With the release of 7.5 (naturally I got the update long before the public) I was using the phone as my daily device. The Samsung phone proved to be extremely durable as I am very tough on phones and never, ever use a case. It is actually still going strong as my 6 year old daughter uses it as a gaming/music device now. Last I picked it up it was covered with dings and jelly, or something sticky and nasty. Still working fine though.So this brings me to the Nokia. I was around for the very beginning of the cell phone days, actually the pager days. Nokia was the king back then. When you wanted great hardware, great reception and the best battery life you looked no further. Most businesses, including the large corporation I worked for, used Nokia hardware for their communication needs. When I saw this coming out I signed up for the pre-order. The first device I ever pre-ordered. While I love gadgets I am a patient man and never had the urge to pre-order anything, forget about waiting on long lines.I recieved the device on Friday, April 6th like most pre-order's. Update !! April 13th.: Laid hands on own Lumia 900 y'day. To sum up the topics I raised in my first review:I took my phone to AT&T store to activate without going through the activation process mentioned in the e-mail from Amazon.I was able to keep my "unlimited data plan" and "200msg" without changing anything. It was great to save $80 by buying the phone from Amazon. Now I will wait to get the $100 credit from Nokia :)The setup was breeze and I used "AT&T" contacts/pic transfer feature on the phone. They have a 2GB limit to transfer the contacts and pictures/videos - 1 time. I transferred from Iphone (downloaded the app.) and was able to reload back to Lumia 900. The app. is preinstalled. It took me less than 5 minutes. Note: The contacts get downloaded as part of "windows live id contacts" - i.e. if you go into "People" tile - you can filter the contacts by "Facebook", "windows live id" etc.One thing that made me unhappy is that Lumia has no "label edit" capability in the contact profile i.e. it has "mobile", "home", "home 2", work etc default labels but I cannot edit the name and cannot add "mobile2" if I would like to. AT&T mobile transfer got all information from my iphone which were labeled "mobile" or "home" but if there was more than 1 mobile - the info did not transfer.Setting up e-mail accounts - yahoo and work was easy. Gmail account is giving errors - [...] error(85010017). It looks like many people are having this error - Lumia, HTC, even Ipads to some extent. Something I believe is going wrong at gmail servers. Hope it gets resolved soon.Playing with the screen, settings and apps was fun. Downloading the maps on Nokia drive was quick too - u can download each state individually. Ring tones are awesome. Some might not like the "font" size but it was awesome for me reading my e-mails and browsing explorer. The visibility is great and you don't need to strain u'r self to read the information. It might take some time to get used to swiping up/down after being used to swipe right/left on Iphone.Overall I'm very satisfied so far except for letdown at few instances. I'm hoping future s/w updates will take care of "label" issue and gmail synch problem.April 11:The phone was amazingly slick during my testing at AT&T store. The screen colors were vibrant and I was bowled over by the windows operating system. I spent about ? hour with the phone and there was no looking back. I hope to spend more time on the phone and give a technical review once I lay hands on my personal phone. So I did select a 3 GB plan.I spoke to AT&T representative at customer service and at AT&T store. They promised me that I can change back to my old plan within 30 days even if I opted for 3GB plan on Amazon. They said my phone is not activated until I call them and walk through the activation process after I receive it from Amazon. During this process I can request to continue my old plan. I really hope this works else I plan to return the phone to Amazon and buy it from AT&T website. I will know it tomorrow/Friday. My previous phone was an HTC Wildfire running android. I had this phone for 4 months. A few of the issues: The clock/weather app stopped updating weather after 1 month. People could not understand me when making phone calls, and I could not hear the person clearly on the other end. We spent a good amount of time repeating, "what," "huh," and "sorry?" to each other. The maps app took forever to load, and would regularly crash with the message that it had unexpectedly stopped functioning. When it worked, the maps app would take 20-30 seconds to update the current location. Map searches often took a minute or more to complete. Several apps I downloaded were buggy and some would not function at all (backcountry navigator pro). App updates would start, then fail after draining 60% of the battery. 1 hour of regular web browsing (no streaming) would completely drain the battery. Like the maps app, the web browser would crash and freeze all the time. I would regularly make inadvertent phone calls when my finger grazed the touch screen. GPS based apps would leave the gps on and drain the battery even after I pushed the power button to put the phone on standby. Emails sent from the default mail app would sometimes not be sent. Wifi would not automatically connect even when in range. I could not maintain reception in locations (like my office) where my peers had no problem maintaining a cellular connection.After doing a heavy amount of research over the last 2 months, I bought the Nokia Lumia 900 and have had none of these problems. It is a joy to use, and I cannot be happier that I don't have to deal with all the frustrations I have been putting up with over these past 4 months. I'm not a tech expert, and some of the above may have been user error on my part. However, I did spend a good deal of time trying to troubleshoot these problems on my own. The fact that I have had none of these problems on the Lumia 900 speaks incredibly positively to Nokia's phone design and Microsoft's software running on it. I also echo the sentiments of the majority of reviewers: The phone is sexy, beautiful, ergonomic, and fast. The iPhone looks terribly dated in comparison. The majority of press reviews have been knocking the phone's specs being too low - no dual core, lack of RAM, internal memory, etc. I suspect the performance that is achieved on this phone reflects the hard work and the effort put in to programming the software. It reminds me of the days when MS-DOS programs written in assembly language would accomplish amazing things and squeeze every last drop of performance on the hardware the programs were written for. I noticed no perceptible difference between the performance of this phone and those with much higher specs (and prices), including the iPhone 4s.Nokia has also stated that they will be offering a $100 rebate on the Lumia 900 until April 21. This effectively makes it free, whether buying on Amazon or with AT&T. I cannot believe what an amazing deal this is - it really is the best deal I have ever come across on a cell phone this good. This includes some amazing Black Friday deals (which is when I picked up my previous phone). Anyone looking for an upgrade or looking to switch cellular providers should seriously consider purchasing this phone before the $100 off offer expires. Even without it, the phone is an amazing deal for the $50-100 upfront subsidized handset cost. Finally, I cannot stress how nice it is that it is 4G LTE. The actual experience of using data functions like web browsing is in a totally different league when compared to non-LTE phones. In this regard, it really cannot be fairly compared to the iPhone 4/4s; the overall experience of using the Nokia Lumia 900 is a generation ahead of the iPhone. If/once LTE comes to the iPhone, the comparisons will be more valid. I'm really surprised that in press reviews more is not made of this huge advantage that the Nokia has over the iPhone (which is the natural comparison press reviewers have been making). For those who might claim I hold an anti-Apple bias, I also own a new 3rd generation iPad with a 4g Verizon plan. It is without a doubt the best tablet currently on the market. Things about me:- I'm a former AT&T employee- I worked for a mobile app company in Silicon Valley- I'm a tech geek with a love for phones and switch mine out every few months, at full cost- I have been an Android and iOS user for the last 3 years (both job and personal use)Things that I love about this phone:- W7.5 is pretty impressive. It is clean, neat and minimalistic. I have worked with dev in iOS and Android OS. I was a Nokia fan since the 90's (Snake anyone!?) and have always felt that I had a good experience with their Symbian OS phones.- This phone is solid. It does not feel cheap. When I tell people it's $99, they're shocked.- Easy to navigate. Whether you're a smartphone newb or a tech geek like myself, you'll be surprised at the ease of use of this phone.- Screen is clean to read and use. Although I'm young, I hate small screens and this screen is not small. It's small enough to go out in my wristlets but big enough to find in my purse.- Texting/typing on this phone is amazing! I always had to get aftermarket keyboard programs for Android bc the native keyboard blows. This types very intuitively and is not over-intrusive like iOS's keyboard/tying.- Office365/Outlook integration. I work for a MS partner and everything I use is neatly accessible from this phone. It makes my life so much easier to see everything threaded and in the appropriate spaces.- Live Tiles! This is so cool! I can see all the new updates as they come through about a particular person if I have them as a live title on my screen.- Everyone is griping about Pandora not being on W7 phones, but I'm a Spotify gal and it works flawlessly on this phone.- Works great with my Scion's in-car controls... Allows me to drive to SF without worrying about looking at my phone to change the music.- Love the volume/speakers on this thing. Granted it's not the best, I appreciate the loudness of it and it sounds clear.- Camera quality is insane! I took a photo of a busy intersection and it caught a moving car in perfectly clear photo. The car must have been moving at 35-40 MPH! The photo was taken during the day time with plenty of sunlight.- The navigation on this phone is AMAZING! Wow... I will never go back to Google Maps or any other mobile map as the "Maps" native app gives really precise directions that most navi-systems costing hundreds of dollars also do. My bf is a former audio installer and he is impressed at the quality in which the directions were given as they are truly turn-by-turn directions.- Sky Drive is neat but I still installed a 3rd party app to access Dropbox. I prefer Dropbox as I have all my stuff on there already and Sky Drive's login is tied to your Windows Live account.Things that I'm meh about this phone:- Battery life. I was expecting Nokia phones to last like no other but this one is average. With the "battery saving" feature, I can go 15 hours before it beeps that it needs to be recharged. I consider myself a heavy user and I feel that the battery life is adequate for the average user.- I miss some of the touch-and-go features that Android had (brightness controls, on/off wifi/bluetooth, etc.) but realistically, I never used them enough to really care.- The position of the buttons. The volume rocker is at a nice point in the phone and doesn't require me to hold the phone with two hands (I have really small hands!) to turn the volume up or down. The power button is in the middle which totally erks me. And the camera toggle is placed at the bottom which I naturally want to hit as the power button.- The charger being placed at the top. I guess I'm so used to the Android-based phones having the charger at the bottom that I just need to get used to it.- Sometimes, I will double click on the screen during camera mode and the photo won't snap. It's annoying to only have to press the button at the top of the phone to take a photo.- I've done the "hold camera button while your phone is in sleep mode to active camera mode without unlocking your phone" and it seems tricky. Maybe the gel case on my phone makes the responsiveness of the camera button slow but it only works some of the time.- When I turn down the all the way to zero for the ringer, it doesn't go into a silent mode. I have to go and manually turn off the vibration in order for it to be a true silent mode. Lame!- I formerly worked for a mobile phone ringtone company and tried to send the phone a custom ringtone through text message. There's no option to download the ringtone directly from the message. This is sad that you have to download the ringtone onto your desktop, load it up with Zune then sync. (Sound familiar Apple?)- No task killer. I opened up Zune to play a podcast and it wouldn't close completely until much later. My thought: is it still running in the background? Kind of hard to say when there's no way to view what tasks are actually still going.- No removable battery. I'm on the fence about this as I feel that in the long run, this could be a problem w

You cannot find a better deal than the Nokia Lumia 900. I've never owned a Nokia before but after getting my Lumia 900 I might be a customer for life. This phone is made of a material I have never seen or felt before. It feels very solid, smooth and high quality. The cyan color is absolutely beautiful and is definitely the color to get as it really stands out as a special phone. Everything else just looks plain and boring next to this phone.The ClearBlack AMOLED display is absolutely gorgeous and blows away any washed out LCD like the iPhone's. Colors are much more vibrant and images appear to float on the top of the screen like an actual photograph. Blacks are so dark and inky that you can't even tell where the screen meets the bezel. There are videos online comparing the iPhone vs. Lumia 900 and there is no contest; Lumia's display is much better looking and much bigger.The signal strength is amazing and calls sound much better than any phone I've had. Visual voicemail is included with this phone for free and it works extremely well. 4G LTE speeds are blazing fast in NYC. You can get downloads in the range of 20Mbps on this phone. That is faster than most people's home broadband connection. Internet connection sharing with up to 5 other devices is available on some data plans as well. The external speaker on the phone has great volume and since it is on the bottom instead of the back it doesn't get muffled when you put the phone down on a surface or hold it in your hand. Outstanding design Nokia!The camera is very good and can be brought up even when the phone is locked just by holding down the dedicated camera button. You can snap photos in widescreen or fullscreen mode and upload directly to Facebook Twitter or Skydrive without having to open another app. Worth mentioning you also get 25GB of free cloud storage with SkyDrive. Very nice!So far battery life has been incredible by smartphone standards. After using my phone all day yesterday to look at apps, browse the web, take photos, listen to music, etc. I had almost 50% battery left by the end of the day. This phone can last you a day and a half easily on a single charge.AT&T includes some nice apps like U-verse video streaming and MyWireless to check your data usage change your plan or pay your bills. You also get a ton of exclusive apps like Nokia's turn by turn navigation and public transit apps. Nokia owns Navteq the mapping company which provides map data for tons of companies like Garmin so this is a major addition to the value of the phone. There are also exclusive CNN, ESPN, Univision, and college sports applications on Nokia's Lumia phones. These apps are excellent and all have 4 or 5 star ratings from users. There are also a few dozen exclusive apps coming from Electronic Arts for the Lumia phones. I love earning Xbox Live achievements on the go. You can even see your friends avatars and edit your Xbox Live avatar on this phone!There are a ton of great apps on Windows Phone so I'll just highlight a few of my favorites: YouTube Pro lets you download and upload videos to Youtube right from a tile on your start screen. It can play videos in HD as well and you can pin any Youtube channel you subscribe to on the start screen. The pinned live tile will update with the image of any new video that is uploaded to that Youtube channel. Radio Controlled is a Pandora music app that plays all of your Pandora playlists. Gmaps Pro gives you Google Maps on your phone including Google Latitude to track your friends and family. "Hey DJ" lets you use your voice to load songs, artists and playlists. Windows Phone also comes with great apps like voice search and voice to launch any app just by holding down the Windows button and saying "Start Netflix" or "Open Netflix." Fastest way to launch apps in my opinion. You can also search for weather by saying "weather" or find movie show times nearby just by saying "movies." This is Siri without the fluff and back-talk, it just works and it works fast.Most of the popular apps are available as well from Kindle/Audible to USA Today/Fox News to Skype/Tango to Kik/WhatsApp to iHeartRadio/TuneIn to Netflix/Vevo to ESPN/MLB at Bat to GasBuddy/Yelp to eBay/Amazon to Twitter/Facebook to Shazam/SoundHound to WeatherChannel/Accuweather to Spotify/Rdio to Slacker/Last.FM to Flixster/Fandango to Bible/Dictionary to Glympse/IMDB you get the idea. Update: I really like the phone and I still think it's great. However, if you want to get a phone that runs Windows Phone 8, you will need to wait to buy the newer phones when they come out. Windows Phone 8 supports background tasks (so more multitasking capabilities than just freezing the state of an app. This allows you to, for example, receive Skype calls without having the app open), higher resolution screens, NFC support, multi-core processors, more customizable start screen, and native code support. This phone will be updated to 7.8, which will have the newer customizable screen, but other additional features are unknown at this point. For me personally, since I'm a minimalist, the only thing I would really miss if they don't offer it in 7.8 is the background task feature since I want tighter Skype integration. However, counting Skype is owned by Microsoft, I'm still keeping my hopes up. That said, if you want the best of the best and high quality 3D games (havok physics supported!), wait until Windows Phone 8 comes out in Fall of 2012. That said, given the support Nokia has shown to this phone (2 updates already in 3 months. The sim card, micro usb port, and headphone ports are all at the top of the phone. The speakers are on the bottom and all the buttons are on the right side. The power button is actually in between the volume buttons and the camera button, so it did take a bit to get used to. I was a bit worried about the bezel that I heard was around the screen. However, it's barely 1mm high, so it's barely noticeable.Screen: The screen is a gorgeous 800x480 pixel ClearBlack AMOLED display. When they say black, they mean black. The contrast is extremely nice and the colors are very vibrant (very noticeable when comparing it to a HTC Trophy or an iPhone). Using the phone while outside is much better than with other phones since the colors don't get as washed out. If there is any complaint, it will have low resolution. Personally, this doesn't affect me too much. The text on the iPhone display is definitely more crisp, but I only really notice the low resolution if I look really closely (I mean my desktop computer screen has a lower DPI, but the screen is farther away so it's not noticeable). So while using the phone on a regular basis, the low resolution doesn't really bother me. If you have used a retina display though, the lower resolution may be much more noticeable. That said, this is an RGB display, so it looks clearer than all the 1280x720 Pentile displays I've seen.Main Camera: I would say that the cameras are slightly above average. With lots of light, the pictures are great, but in low light, the pictures are riddled with noise. The flash doesn't help much either since it causes red eye and faces becomes too bright. On the bright side, the flash is decently bright (my friend kept on complaining about being blinded). Update: I played around with the camera some more. For low light situations, it's best if you use manual settings. Go into the camera settings, set "Scenes" to night, "Exposure" to 1 to 2 (I usually use 1), and "ISO" to 200(if you have a VERY steady hand and nothing in the picture is moving. This results in better pictures if you can pull this off, but it is kind of hard) to 800 (I usually use 400). Leave the rest of the settings unchanged. Take the picture and use the auto fix feature. This will result in a much better low light picture than if you just used the automatic settings.Front Camera: The quality on the front camera is great. It's better to use this for video chat since the main camera is 8MP vs the front one which is 1MP. The quality is decent.Speakers: The speakers are decently loud but the sound does get distorted at higher volumes. I would say that it is decent for a phone speaker.Call Quality: The call quality is really good. Hearing other people is very clear and my friends say they can hear me very clearly. Using speakers while using the phone works great as well. So far I haven't had a dropped call yet, so using plastic for the case seems to have been a smart design choice. I also have all my contacts set up through my Live account, so it automatically synced the contacts. If you didn't do that, Nokia does have a contact importer app that may work for you.
