It seems flawless

Once the life-span of the Gamecube had run out, though, I was drifting away from gaming a bit. From hitting the books in college to finding a job out in the "real world", I just didn't have the time or the inclination to log as many hours as I had as a child. However, there were still a few games (mainly sports, some adventure) that I still enjoyed playing, but no longer could keep up to date with a Gamecube (and I wasn't willing to shell out the money for a Wii). My brother, on the other hand, WAS willing to part with this hard-earned dough in order to bring the next generation of Nintendo into our living room once again.
At first, I was as intrigued by the system as any other. The new motion-sensor technology behind the Wii Remote (no more "controllers") seemed exciting, as was the Wii Sports game that came with the system. My entire family had hours of fun tinkering around with that game, and it seemed as if our Nintendo brand loyalty would continue into the future. But it was not to be...
With the inclusion of every new Wii game or Wii console feature, I began to get the full picture...Nintendo was turning the Wii into a family/kids system, and there wasn't anything I could do about it. Now, I'm not the kind of gamer that needs intense violence or blood-curdling imagery to have a good time with a game, but I believe I am somewhat traditional in the notion that I like improvements (either in graphics or controls) and don't like taking steps backward. With the Wii, however, both things occurred.
The first issue came with the controls. Originally touted as a "revolutionary way to game and exercise at the same time", the Wii pretty much fails (at least practically) on both counts. Until the introduction of Wii Motion Plus (which still isn't even perfect), the motion-sensor controls were often shoddy at best. There is nothing more maddening than not being able to do what you're trying to do within a video game and not have it work due to the sensitivity of the hardware. Add to this the fact that the system fails to live up to its "exercise" mantra (all you do is pump your arms, which may be better than sitting on the couch, but not by a whole lot), and this was a down-grade from Nintendo systems past.
The breaking point, at least for, was how the graphics on the Wii had taken a step backward from the Gamecube. In trying to cater to their market of children and families, Nintendo turned many of its games into cartoonish caricatures of past creations. For example, the new Punch-Out! title just recently released was a welcome trip down memory lane, but also much too over-the-top in its character goofiness. Even worse was the stalwart Madden franchise, which (while looking incredible on other systems) was reduced to cartoon football in the Wii installment.
Thus, after some brief consideration, my brother and I decided to sell all our Wii components, games, and accessories on Ebay and transfer our "loyalties" to the XBox 360, which offers a much more traditional, liner gaming experience (graphics get better, controls improve, etc.). Will I miss the classic Nintendo characters and such fascinating pursuits as Wii Bowling? Sure. But the transition to Microsoft's gaming product, after nearly two decades of Nintendo dominance, seems like the right thing to do for the kind of gaming experience I'm looking for.
To close, then, I would like to note that I don't consider the Wii to be a bad system by any stretch of the imagination. In its own way and for its audience, it is one of the most revolutionary consoles of all-time (shown by strong sales vaulting it ahead of all competition). However, at this point, I just have too many gripes with the presentation and controls of games to recommend it to gamers who (like me) have grown up with button-pushing and improving standards.
