Last Christmas my 7 y/o son received this gameboy. I was very hesitant about the flip top. I thought for sure it would be broken in a day. I have found out that this is a very durable system. I just purchased 2 more systems for my 5 y/o twin boys and they have dropped them, stepped on them, thrown them, spilled drinks on them, you name it they've done it and so far the gameboys have survived and no scratches on the screens either! Can't ask for much more than that. The graphics aren't what you will get with other systems but my boys don't know the difference yet. We've been able to find plenty of games that were age appropriate. Our biggest problem is keeping up with the game cartridges.The battery seems to hold it's charge for a long time. These have definently been a hit with my boys.

I have had the Game Boy Advance SP for about a year now, we bought it for my 7 year old daughter. I was initially very concerned that this was going to be a waste of money having bought the previous Game Boy Advance and finding it very dissapointing.BUT this one has worked out great. The screen is excellent and works in all lights and from all angles which was a major problem with the last one, the battery lasts a long time and charges very fast when needed. And if you can't wait for the battery to charge you can play while it is charging. There is also a car charger available though we haven't used it much because the battery really doesn't go dead that often.I bought the SP instead of the Video Now because there were not only video titles available but also because you can play games. I have found that there are a lot of games that are very good and in a lot of ways better than the Game Cube because they still have that old Nintendo charm which is missing from a lot of the high tech new games. There aren't many video titles available yet but the numbers are increasing all the time and we have found ones the kids really like.Lastly, the controlls are easy and intuitive and it seems quite sturdy. Ours has been dropped and thrown (by our 2 year old) and it barely has a scratch. If you are concerned about the flip portion getting damaged easily, we have had no problems with that either.All in all I would say this is a very good product and is worth the money.

GBA SP is a HUGE improvement over the original GBA. First of all, the back lit screen is revolutionary. It's a must have for all handhelds. I mean how did we go through 13 years of no light. Also there is a built in battery that is rechargable which is nice. You get about 8 hrs with the light and 10 hrs with no light I think. It flips opens for easy storage and the screen doesn't scratched as much. It's very portable and very small. Everything is fantasic about it. Except there is only one flaw. No headphone jack. Many gamers have complained about that. I don't mind it. It doesnt matter to me. Go buy this if you want a very revolutionized handeld. Must Have!

The GBA SP is all about playing old-school style games we used to see on consoles like the Genesis and SNES. When the graphics were simpler the gameplay had to make up for it. And GBA has dozens and dozens of games out there, for cheap prices, that are brilliant.The SP is also much better than the standard GBA because the clamshell design prevents scratching if you're carrying it around in your pocket and the screen is backlit for increased viewing clarity.With the Nintendo DS out there now the GBA SP is a bit redundant as you can play GBA games on the SP. But don't worry, there are still loads of games getting made for it and the GBA can play all the old Gameboy and Gameboy Color games, which the DS cannot.The battery life is also quite long so you won't have to recharge it too often. It's also probably the handheld console with the most amount of games out there. Definitely the one to get if you cannot afford a DS.

Nintendo has presented us with a tough choice: the new GBA SP or the Game Boy Micro. I was thinking about what I really wanted out of the Micro -- the bright screen, and the better ergonomics and controls. BUT the screen is tiny, and the SP's screen is plenty small as it is. I'm 35 years old and while my eyesight is perfect, there's no need to ruin that with a postage-stamp sized screen.So I bought a baby blue metallic new-screen GBA today. There are other pictures on the internet comparing the old and the new, but none with that old-time Atari flair that we know and love! Here are some screenshots of the Activision Anthology on the old and new system, side by side. It's difficult to photograph these things, so excuse the quality of the pics. This game has some bright, vivid colors which are NOT done justice on the washed out old-style SP, but they really come alive on the new one.

my five year old got one of these for christmas, and he absolutley loves it!!!! he can sit and play with this for hours!! and there have been times when i have not had anything else to do and i have sat and played this for hours!!

As his wife: I HATE IT!! He spends more time playing that when it's bathroom time he can spend hours playing, and forgets about the rest of us. If you husband loves playing with video games, DON'T BUY IT. If you don't mind that he will be playing each game to the end and never seeing him BUY IT! I'm ready to hide it from him. GRRHH!!

The GameBoy Advance sp is the best ninendo handheld ever. Ive had a nintendo DS before and I hated it. It was the same exact thing as the SP and the gamechips for it are so small youll lose it if you dont leave iits case. And also had the newest gameboy the Gameboy micro. Its way to small im eleven and its like a toy car in my hands. Even though its ten dollars more at 89.99. I highly recommend to the SP its only 79.99 for a new one and 59.99 for a used one at your local ebgames. I traded in my micro or the sp now I know I made the right desicion.

We bought this for our son for Christmas and were surprisingly impressed with it. The new brighter backlight is excellent so be sure to get that one. The older ones are too difficult to see. The buttons are still kind of hard to manipulate but he has enjoyed playing it very much. I like that it charges itself with the ac adaptor. Overall we are satisfied with our purchase.

Okay, the screen of Game Boy Advance is way too small. I don't what Nintendo was thinking when they came up with this. You might as well use a little cell phone to play games. If you want to lose your eyesight, go ahead and get this system. After a year, you will be wearing glasses like Urkel. Or if you currently wearing glasses, your eyesight will only get worse. The screen only show ants.

Just bought this one last night for my hubby for Christmas as he keeps stealing mine for the better light than the old GBA he has. Tried it out this a.m. and now I want a new one. The lighting system is tons better than my GBA-SP I got last year. When you turn it on the light is off but referencing my GBA I thought it was on, when I actually turned it on, WOW is all I can say. If you are looking for a GBA, get one of the newer ones with the new backlit system, you will not be disappointed. Now if they would just come out with a pink GBA-SP.

I am extremely pleased with the SP. In fact, when they came out with the new one with a better backlight, I BOUGHT IT. The new backlight is a BIG improvement from the old sp, the colors are so much more vivid. If you were a fan of the old one, you need the NEW one! It was a toss up between the new Nintendo Micro and the New SP. For me, the micro was too small. I highly recommend this. My 9 year old son has one also and we have had it for 2 years now and it has never broke and it is very durable. THUMBS UP!!!!!!

this is so small that it is ridiculous...there should also be an age group stated on the box,the games that they offer are for younger children,but you have to know how to read to play them .. that should be noted somewhere

nice screen, great games. the only thing better than the gba is the next-generation nintendo ds which is slightly more expensive but plays ds games AND gba games. nintendo is the king of handheld gaming! whatever you do don't make the mistake of getting a psp...i got one and traded it in at a significant loss, it was that big of a hunk of junk. i wouldn't trade a game boy color for one!

The game boy advance sp is small but if you put it in your pocket makes it huge!The games are fun but I rather play Game Cube. The Grapics don't look like gamecube at all they are worse. It is easy to loose because I lost it and I couldn't find it. The Games are also easy to loose. But the Game Boy Advance SP is still fun to play with.

Originally my daughter had the older version of the gameboy advance which the screen was dark and hard to see and you had to buy all the gadgets to go with it in order to see the screen. I got fed up and bought her the newer version of the gameboy advance. The screen is so much clearer,brighter and just easier to see. She doesn't have to hang over the side of the couch under the light to see the screen anymore. She's loves it!

Like the gameboy advance sp, abut sports a brighter screen for better game experience. The screen is truly backlit like the gameboy micro and NDS, not frontlit like the older variations.. (...)

I got one of these for my birthday a year ago. It's really cool! I always bring it along on car trips, and I rarely am bored! It's much more compact than my sister's Gameboy Advance, and the backlit screen is really handy if you're playing in the dark. The screen folds down so it doesn't get all scratched up, but the rest of the Gameboy is very easily scratched, so it would be a good idea to buy a carrying case to protect it. To me, the Nintendo DS is really clunky and confusing, with that plastic pen and the two screens taking up so much room that it makes it look pretty ridiculous. I like my Gameboy Advance SP better, but then that's just me, and you are probably reading this and thinking I am crazy. Oh, well. Also I wanted to say something about the weird review that said something like, "I am 6 years old and I got one for christmas. My dog ate it. He said it was yummy!", but with much worse spelling. Actually, I thought it was kind of funny. But judging by the many people who "did not find it helpful", this probably makes you think I am even more crazy. Heck with it. Sorry I kind of floated off the subject. Anyway, I really would reccommend this game system to you.

It was purchased as a gift for my daughter, seems that she likes it and satisfied with what she got. I personally like the design and the size for kids to carry and play. It shoud include at least one of the game disks initially. A little dispointing point.

I actually ordered this for my son. I found that all of my old Original Gameboy games worked on it. Im now looking at games to buy for myself like the Zelda series. This is a fun item and easy to carry around.

I bought it for my granddaughter. She is very pleased with it, and spends many hours playing and enjoying it.

My son got on for Chrismas and he plays with it all the time and I can get him to put it down. The only way I get it from him is when he leaves it at my home or goes to bed

its so cool and fun i want to scream and its so fun knowing that ther is millions of games to play and every on is cool

I just got this in Hong Kong. This is a very nice console compared to the other GameBoys. The best improvement is the backlighting.However, while everyone raves about the new rechargeable battery, I wish they had left the option of using normal batteries. When I go on vacation to the U.S. I will not be able to use my GameBoy (different currents and plugs). One of the pluses of handhelds is the ability to take them on trips and use them anywhere. So I feel that GameBoy has failed in planning for this.Does anyone know if the version sold in U.S. can be used in different countries?

We bought this for my son because he has a hard time focusing on anything for more then a minute and has a high stress level going into new places. So for his birthday we bought this. And it has been the best thing we have bought for him so far. It is with him everyday and night. Very sturdy and long battery life. The only thing I suggest is that it works with gameboy color games but the graphics don't match up to the Advance games so know that before you purchase games.

Please Do not listen to other people that say that the ds will replace the gameboy advanced sp because the ds does not have a port on the back of it to plug in the link cable so that means you cannot play multiplayer with other sp's.Anyway the sp is a very good machine it has a built in light witch is great for long car rides in the dark and the sp has a rechargable batery so you dont have to constantly go to the store and buy batteries for it.
