This camera was my first foray into the world of digital SLRs after many years of film photography. I have owned this camera since 2007 and it has not let me down. I choose it over other popular Nikon's at the time for a few reasons. I had been looking at the D300 and this seemed to be a superior camera in every way. It's lighter, has the same or better image quality, and has all the features you could ask for. While it is not a full frame SLR (and that is something on my wish list) it does take wonderful photos. I have used it for weddings, engagement and maternity portraits as well as some event photography. It has a good battery life, but I do always carry a backup just in case. I enjoy being able to continue shooting without having to worry about changing film. A large memory card is highly recommended with this camera. It has the ability to shoot high quality JPEG, RAW, or both at the same time. My loyalty to Nikon for many years has not wavered and they didn't let me down with this camera. I'll be sticking with them for years to come.

Some times this camera misses pixels and when your going back to edit you can clearly see a missing pixel or three i miss my Nikon D3100. Why is this one more expensive you ask. well its probably because of the lens which is pretty good the lens is great but tech of this cam could use a few improvement when it comes to shooting against black backdrops other then those minor details the camera is great and i wouldn't want to dis persuade anyone from buying it . it is definitely a great but but Nikon has this issues with some of its cameras some times just pointing that out its not the first time I've come across this problem when using a Nikon.

This is by far not my first nikon. I still have a d80 and another d90, I love the camera and have been shooting with Nikon for 40 years. However, I have only had this one for 9 months under fairly light use and it is malfunctioning. Shutter speed would not increase and the speed frames per second would not function at all. My other D90 sensor malfunctioned and had to be repaired as well.. this is getting old.

This camera is a piece of junk. We had it less than a year and had to return it twice to be fixed. And now that the warranty is up, it is not working again. Yesterday I took one picture with it and when I tried to take another one (after many attempts to get the darn thing to work) nothing happened.

As, due to finances, am always a generation behind as well as used, I finally got to get a modern sensor. The high ISO performance is incredible. 8-) Live view is VERY handy with all my major neck issues. ISO 1600 is really clean, and, with my Nikkor 50mm 1.8 AF lens, rarely need to go higher. ISO 3200 is actually cleaner than ISO 1600 was on the D80. 8-) Sure, it's not the newest on the block, it's leaps and bounds above the D8-, and finally became affordable used! 8-)

The build quality of the camera is excellent and despite not having "weather sealing" officially on its specs it withstood inclement weather including rain and snow with great fanfare.The picture quality is excellent - very sharp with great color fidelity and enormous potential for customization. The only detractors are the hefty weight especially with the kit lens and the not so fast and often erroring auto-focus - especially on portraits.Some of button placement and operation requires some hand and finger gymnastics but otherwise the controls are easy to operate and all at your fingertips.With the separate screen on the top (backlit on demand), the camera can take thousands of pictures and can be kept for weeks at a time without being recharged.The kit lens is very good, albeit its expanded range hurts it minimum focusing distance abilities but that is just an unfortunate side effect.There camera is not without some little nuisances here and there - it did stop responding a couple of times and also there is a well-known issue with Error appearing on the top of the LCD preventing the camera operation. The Error on top usually indicates that either flash media is not present or loose connection between the lens and the body. Readjusting the lens on the body clears up the error.One reason that I specifically waited for D90 was its video abilities, which are present but were clearly not up to the par just yet. D90 was one of the first DSLR's to get the video capability, but there is no autofocus, the codec is poor, the auto aperture adjustment is terrible, the sound is monaural, the choices of resolutions are limited and so forth. If that is important D90 is not the camera to get. The entry level Canon T3i video output was very good on the other hand. Was because there are much newer and more sophisticated cameras on the market today.

years ago, i used to shoot with SLRs but on 35mm films. however, i got tired of all the processing and printing, and stopped shooting for a long time. but looking at all the nice digital photos other people were taking, i thought i'd give it a try again. so i decided to get a D90 to see if i'd really get back into photography again.lo and behold, next thing i knew, i was shooting photographs all the time. after a couple of years, i've decided that i've outgrown this more entry level SLR, so i moved up to a D800 and haven't looked back.i recommend people who are curious to start with a camera like this, or one of the entry level canons.

I bought a D60 back in December 2008 and, while it was a great first-time dslr, I was itching to upgrade after about a year. I just got my new D90 about 3 weeks ago and I'm loving it so far. The image quality is beautiful and I'm already in love. The autofocus is an incredible improvement over the D60's. I love the 11 autofocus points compared to the 3 I was used to as well as the various different options that I feel are more accurate in tracking a moving subject (like my small kids) than my D60 was. One feature I've really enjoyed that I didn't know I would even want is the grid lines (optional) on the D90's viewfinder. I can keep my horizons level and use the "rule of 3rds" much easier and I feel more confident when composing my shots.I love the low-light capability of my new D90. I have taken shots at ISO 3200 that are usable. Yes, they are a bit on the noisy side, but compared to what I'd get on my D60, this is a dream come true. The shots were taken from far away inside a gymnasium for a graduation ceremony. They won't be blown up to a large size or anything, but they will work for posting them on the internet and including them in the photo books I like to create. I've been really impressed with the shots I can get, even with my "slow" 18-200 lens, fully extended even, in low (or less-than-ideal) light. I didn't like to use ISO 1600 on my D60 as I thought it was too noisy, but I feel perfectly comfortable using ISO 1600 on my D90. It's even better with my faster 35mm 1.8 lens.There are so many things I love about this camera. I love the large, bright lcd screen, I love the higher burst rate (super handy when trying to capture the fleeting smiles of my kids), I love the designated buttons to make quick changes without having to dig into the menu, I love the top display (which I didn't think I'd like at first, compared to looking on the lcd display info on the back of my D60), I love the many, many, many customization options, I love the movie mode even though it doesn't have full time auto focus (I adjust the focus ring on the lens if I need to make a change, no biggie), I love that it has a bracketing feature, I love that it can use my SB-600 flash off-camera and can use the older lenses that don't need their own motor to be able to auto focus.The only thing that I haven't liked about my D90 is how off the pre-set white balances are. Out of the box it seems like every setting has a strong green tinge to it in addition to being consistently on the cool side. Fortunately, things are very customizable and I've tweeked most of them to where I feel they are most accurate. I shoot in RAW, so it's not really a big deal since I can adjust that easily in post, but it made for a lot of extra work, so I finally just went in an changed the settings myself. If I were taking jpegs though, it would really, really bother me. This is the only reason I give the D90 4 stars instead of 5. It's actually more like 4 1/2, but I don't have that option. It's taken a lot of trial and error, taking lots of pictures and getting them onto my computer to see which settings are most accurate. It's something where I've only recently become comfortable with the results and it's something that I feel should be accurate out of the box on this level of a camera.As for the learning curve, it took a little while to become comfortable with my new D90, but coming from a D60 I don't think the learning curve was as steep as if this were my first dslr altogether. After fixing the white balance setting issues, I'm LOVING my new D90 and would highly recommend it to anyone looking to step up their photography skills. I also highly recommend the book "Mastering the Nikon D90" by Darrell Young. It's a very valuable tool in learning about and getting the most from you D90.Happy shooting!

Have used some compact digitals before but this is my first DSLR. I chose this body because I am able to use all my old AF film lenses with it. I went from a film body (Nikon N80) to this and the basic photo controls are all quite familiar. The other functions relating to its being a DIGITAL camera are fairly well explained between the in-camera help and the included manual. I downloaded a .pdf copy of the manual from the Nikon site because it's easy to search with computer or tablet. Also there are a multitude of third party web guides and reviews available for help with this camera.I seldom if ever use the video feature but for someone who may be planning on that you may wish to go with one of the more modern model bodies. Even the newer so called "lower" consumer bodies has better and easier to use video recording functions.Also worth noting, if you want to crop out and make really BIG blow ups a lot of your photos, you may want something with a bit higher pixel count.

I received the camera just a few days after placing the order instead of the several weeks I was expecting! It was in excellent condition and works perfectly. I have another D90 and wanted a backup. This fits the bill and I am 100% pleased with both the camera and the service.

I have owned the Nikon D90 for over 4 years now, and have taken over 9,000 pictures with it. I would recommend it to anyone as their first DSLR camera. It was easy to learn, and you can grow your interest in digital photography, as it has all the manual controls.

About 4 months ago my Nikon stopped functioning correctly. When I turned it on it would not access the menu and I could not access the photo playback. It would take exactly one photo, after which I would have to turn the camera off and then on to take another photo.Well I had a warranty on the camera (which was new and not used or refurb) so i sent it back. They did whatever they did and sent me the camera back about 2 months later. (geez!) This was devastating to my wife and I because that is 2 months of growing for our infant son, and they change so rapidly!So today the same issue starts happening AGAIN. I decide to call Nikon and the customer server representative told me that using an "unapproved" card in the camera will "mess up the camera" (their exact phrasing)I asked them if it was a software issue that cold be resolved by re-installing the firmware and then using a sandisk brand card. I was told this would not fix the issue. Thus I can only conclude that the hardware in this camera is faulty and fragile.This camera is a lemon and prone to breaking. I am going to demand a full replacement camera since their "fix" did not work last time.Yes, I tried other cardsYes, I tried to reset the camera per the manualYes, I tested the battery - it's fineYes, the card works fine in other camerasYes, the camera is still borked w/o any card in it whatsoever

Had a burning desire to get a good SLR camera since my old 35 mm became obsolete. Kept dragging my feet hoping that a camera would come out that would allow me to use my old telephoto & close-up lenses and finally realized that was never going to happen. Then came the decision of which brand would be best -- Nikon or Cannon. Chose the Nikon based on their reputation for superior lens making. I'm very happy with the camera and all the features. Should have made the decision long ago as money was wasted on 2 other point & click digital cameras prior to getting the D90.

I LOVE(D) this camera. For my needs it was perfect. Great shots, great functions, and perfect size/weight in my opinion. The video mode doesn't autofocus and has the "wavy" effect with fast moves, but I wasn't too concerned about this (I'm more a purist and feel the vids should be left to video cameras). The reason why I sold it after 4 years of use was due to the dreaded F-- error. This didn't happen too frequently, but it occurred enough for me to miss some shots I really wanted (i.e. animals running across the road, person jumping in the air, other split second shots). I researched online and tried every remedy for this issue to no avail.If you're one of the lucky ones without this issue, I'm extremely jealous. I feel like this is the perfect DX-format camera in terms of function vs. price. Anyway, just my .02.

Exceptional camera, great price. I have taken thousands of pictures with this camera and has work very well for me. I also have a 50 - 300 mm lens that has enabled me to take the kind of photographs I have always wanted to take. I am very pleased with this product and would reccommed it to everyone.

I loved the range of the zoom (38 mm - 210 mm in my old 35 mm mind). The camera and lens are small and lightweight making it very easy to carry around to places you might not take your large camera bag and equipment, yet the range of zoom and the varied automatic exposure modes make it as easy to get a high quality image as taking a snapshot using a small pocket camera. I later purchased a D7000 and gave this to my daughter-in-law and she has loved it as well.

Worked semi-decently for a while, then I should have just returned it. I don't like a camera that clicks and takes the pic literally about 10 seconds after pushing the button...and, yes, I've read the manual and tried all settings. I've lost so many moments of my kids. I also have to shake the camera to get it to work sometimes. The software is working less and less over time and was never particularly good. I've been trying to download using Nikon transfer for a few hours now. Sometimes it can't see the camera, sometimes it does but then doesn't list the photographs to be transferred, sometimes it lists the photos and I check them....only to have them NOT transfer after hitting the "start transfer" button. I will never buy Nikon again. I will go with Canon. I should have sent mine back when my boss and my friend sent theirs back.

This camera is a great camera. It has a little bit of everything in it. What I mean by that is that you could do portraits, or landscape of sports with it. Although it may not be the best, it can manage to get the job done. This a great camera for beginners and mid-level photographers. I would highly recommend this camera to anyone.
