I bought the camera as an upgrade to a D60. I took the camera on a cruise with me and it worked great. I posted some of the pictures I took on a cruise forum and many people have posted positive comments regarding the pictures. I've only had the camera for a short period of time (I have not even had the chance to do any serious editing of the photographs yet), but I am happy with the camera.

My first DSLR was the Nikon D40 and it served me well. I've been waiting for some time for this camera to be available and I'm very pleased with the image quality it produces. The sensor and processing it has is the same as the D7000 without the extra weight and bulk, which is exactly what I wanted. It's well built and I especially like the option of the folding screen as I take macro and panoramic shots where it's invaluable.

I've been using the 5100 and love it so far. I'm still learning how to use all the features but I was able to use right out of the box. I haven't attempted any videos yet, so can't rate at this time. Thus far, I LOVE IT!!!

The quality is ok, but you can hear the camera motor zooming in and out as you move around. I upgraded from the Nikon D70s and was excited to have an articulated screen with a live view because I often want to take pictures from either a high or low angle and sometimes take self portraits. Unfortunately the shutter lag when using Live View is so slow that I could never use it for anything involving people.

I was looking for an upgrade to the digital slr world. I read the reviews on this camera and the price was great! Added the 55-300 lens with the special deal they had to save even more money! The camera works great! I have not had any problems yet or complaints. Can't wait to use it more!

Maybe the only drawback (and it's a personal one) is the rear view. I liked the fixed LCD screen on the rear of my previous camera (D40). Think the the pull out is kinda awkward to use...but then again, I'm not a Live-View kinda guy...like to see my shots through the viewfinder.

This camera perfectly blends both my amateur camcorder and DSLR needs into one. By providing an external microphone along with the continuous autofocus into a DSLR format I can have one device to support and carry that can fit whatever role I need.The resolution of the CMOS sensor plus the flexibility of the tilt/swivel screen is also a great step-up from my D40. I get much larger photos out of this and it makes working with the images so much easier.

Great camera! This is our first SLR camera and we couldn't be more happy with our choice! My favorite part is the features mode. You can shoot photos instantly in black and white, color sketch etc.

Great DSLR camera to start out with. Making my self taught, gradual steps from Auto (including Scenes/Effects) to Shutter priority and Apert Priority. Will get to Manual soon, when I graduate myself there. That's the great thing about this camera, it can ease you into the hobby and make you feel like a professional in no time!Highly recommended.

This is an outstanding DSLR camera and picture quality is tooooooooooooooo good.Always pair this with Nikkor lens for good performance. I got 18-200 and it is superb.

D5100 superior low light excellent image quality and loving it more, I have returned my D3100 and keeping Nikon D5100 instead,using Nikon 35mm 1.8G AF-S ( same 1600 ISO and shutter, Aperture etc., clearly less noise under indoor night low light condition worth every penny IMHO.

As soon as i received my new camera I strated clicking away, it took me a while but I am getting the hang of it. I am still learning how to use it and still finding new ways and features this camera has. I know I am going to have lots of fun using my new Nikon D5100 with all the cool effects it has to offer.

Bad for recording video: auto focus created a lot of noise while you recording. I need to buy the mic.

Recomendo essa máquina fotográfica, fácil de usar no modo automático com ou sem flash, e bem completa para quem espera um equipamento com várias opçőes de uso.

The D5100 is my new baby. Better than Canon T3i and almost like a D7000!The swivel LCD is cool, but I honestly don't use it much for live-view.I'm just awed by how great this camera is for the price. I have a good feeling that I'll be satisfied with this thing for a while.

My personnel opinion is D5000 is better when compare to D5100...because almost 90% of feautures are same when we compare both the cameras...but the price wise there is 250 dollars difference...for the difference i don't think D5100 is worth of money when we compare to D5000.

My D5100 just arrived and i'm extremely happy with the camera. The grip feels great, the quality of the photos is awsome, and it has excellent low ISO features. I highly recommend this camera.
