I tried both this and the Sony and chose the Nikon for superior color fidelity. The zoom capability is excellent and the dense focal plane ensures a high resolution photo. The negatives, as others have pointed out, are that the focus is a tad slow and it feels a little cheap and plasticky. But having said that, it's light enough to throw in your camera bag without a second thought.

I have been wanting to upgrade to a "big girl" camera for a while now and after doing some research decided to start with this. I looked into DSLR cameras but by the time I would have gotten a lens that I wanted it was going to cost upwards of $1000 and after trying one in a camera store I left feeling a little overwhelmed.I just got this in the mail yesterday and was able to quickly figure out pretty much all of the auto settings. I am really satisfied with the results as this is going to be mainly used for family photos and travel. I like the idea that I can adjust things manually if I want, so I think this will be a nice camera to sort of learn on and then eventually upgrade again to a DSLR if I end up wanting to.So far, I am impressed with this camera as a beginner and look forward to learning all the ins and outs and producing great photos!

For the money, this is by far the very best camera i ever owned. Had it 2 days and went to Asia with it. Flawless, simple to use, super zoom.well worth the bucks. go for ito yeah, killer good video

I got this for an upcoming vacation I am taking. I did not want to carry by DSLR and a Video Camera. I was hoping this would meet both needs. It works Okay in video mode if the light is good. For indoors you need a good deal of light or the video is too dark. I contacted Nokia who said 'it is working within specs.'Also - battery life is bad. Get extra batteries. GPS really eats them up and, by the way, the GPS receiver is not that good. Indoors, when even my HTC One X gets a solid signal, the camera will not lock to GPS.The lens is very good and the sill picture quality is excellent. JPG compression is pretty high (4 and 8 times). Would be nice if Nikon offered a less lossy mode.Anyway - It's okay. If I had to do it again, i would have spend a few extra bucks and gotten a higher end camera that is outside the Coolpix line.

Excelent camara.I am enyoing it. I have the FTN and F3 film camaras, but this is an easy to use equipment.

The camera was well packaged, Easy to operate, instructions were very good, shipping time was acceptable, was as described on the Web Page. The only issue is if you run the GPS on the camera, you can only take about (30) pictures before it completely drains a battery. I did not find this information anywhere in the instruction manual and found out the hard way when the battery died and the camera would not turn on. This is the only downside I have found so far with this camera.....

I very much like this new Nikon camera. The price was fair, the delivery on time. This is the fourth Nikon camera I have owned, and I have been more than satisfied with all.

I have owned a p-100 and a p510 both of which I was pleased with. My problem so far with this camera is the poor quality of the image through the viewfinder and the method they have chosen to use it . The LCD display has to be totally closed (folded in so that it is not visible) to use the viewfinder. This means that the user cannot use the DISP button to switch quickly back and forth between the two. A person who has never used an SLR and enjoyed looking at the crisp through the lens image probably will not care about this.I will comment further when I've had the opportunity to use the camera more--I just bought it to replace my p510 which was stolen. I hope the extreme telephoto is as good as the 510 and the autofocus problems have been remedied.

This camera takes wonderful photos with very little effort. In fact it is hard to mess up a picture. One needs to know very little about the technical aspects of photography to get very good photos. The only thing I was disappointed with is the video function of the camera. When taking videos, the camera does not focus well when panning to different subjects at varying distances from the camera. But other than that, it produces high end photos with the ease of a point and shoot. Also, the 42x zoom is spectacular.

This camera takes great photos, esp. macro shots. The only complaint I have with it is that on the camera I received, the focus doesn't always work. Doesn't matter what setting I use or which AF area mode I select, there are times when the camera just refused to focus, even when it has a clear view of what I want to shoot. It will briefly focus, then go back out of focus and stay there.

Took this camera to Europe and it did an awesome job. Took pictures in low light in cathedrals and at night and all turned out well. Daytime pictures could be controlled with manual exposures, etc. The close ups were sharp and clear despite some shakiness on my part. The battery lasted a day and I was impressed that the camera would go into standby mode or turn itself off if not being used. Love everything about this camera!

After using my Nikon P520 for two months now, with light usage, I must say I am disppointed in the lack of good, crisp images. The autofocus is just not very accurate, and 80% of the time the images come out just a tiny bit off. Things improve a little when I select the shutter speed priority button -"S". Am seriously considering returning it, to get a true single lens reflex, a camera with a sharp sensor. Bottom line: Very mediocre camera.

The zoom function is great, that's why I purchase it. But the power button gets a little problem. Sometimes it's hard to power on the camera, the power button just doesn't give any responses. You have to push hard or try many times, sometimes you even need to take out the battery and put it back to start the camera. This issue really brought me some problems when I was travelling, put me in an embarrassing situation.

It could very well be me not having a chance to really understand the camera yet. I am coming from a Cannon that shoots super fast....this just did not do that for me. HOWEVER, I really liked having it and using for our vacation shots in NYC. I just will not be using it for my kids sporting events.

This is a great camera. My granddaughter saved her birthday and allowance money to buy this. She loves it. Her grandfather is so impressed, he wan'ts one for himself. It took great pictures.

I bought this camera for a trip to Alaska and have thus far taken over 2000 pictures. I'm by no means a pro but the pictures have great color, the camera is easy to use and has some nice features. Only concerns are that the response in continuous mode seems a little slow and the battery strength indicator doesn't seem to work well (or at all). Overall a nice bridge camera that I would recommend to anyone.

I love this camera, this is my first high end camera and I have learned so much on photography and taking pictures. the adjustable lcd is a very good feature to use for good angles.

This is a great camera. I love the features and it's very easy to use. The zoom is incredible and the picture quality is great! Also it has allot of pre set picture settings to. You can't go wrong with this camera. Great job!

It requires one to open and close the monitor screen to make settings and then take photos with the viewfinder. Not available for a camera one buys for its ability to customize the settings for each group of shots.

As a compact camera it is good, i took more than 300 photo in Paris,evel tower,desny land,versi palace and the museum and got very good pictures even in low light.the Wi-Fi WU-1a accessory i bought from Japan ($50) is good i am using it for my Nikon D7000 as well and transfare photo to my computer and my iphone.so i recommend this camera

I had been looking at upgrading from my Sony point and shoot to a digital SLR but I wasn't sure if I wanted to invest a minimum of $600 for a camera and an additional $400 for another lens. This camera was the answer! I know it isn't a DSLR but it's very close. It arrived a day before expected and I stayed up past 1am trying to learn as much as I could. I still have a lot to discover but I figured if I can master ISO, aperture, shutter speed and so on with this camera then maybe in a couple of years I can make the investment for a DSLR.I am extremely happy with the quality of this camera and cannot wait until my SD card gets here so I can begin saving photos!
