!!!!!!!!Be sure to read my new update to this post at the bottom!!!!!!!I'm a solo electronic music producer/DJ that does not do much gigging anymore and basically needs a good home studio recording interface for simple single source instruments. Like record L/R from a keyboard one track at a time into my DAW (Sonar X1). I had excellent previous experience with the 400f from mackie as the sound quality (recording and playback sources) was so good it made all other sub-$1K interfaces sound like cheap toys. Unfortunately I've long sold that interface due to different moves over time and having to cut down my home studio. But now I'm back building my studio again and I wanted to get that quality again, so naturally Mackie's Blackjack fits perfectly, or somewhat as I've found out. The audio quality is great, not sure if it's as good as the 400F was, but so far it's pretty close. The hardware is built great and is definitely the highlight of the product. The major negatives are that it has some pretty bad latency issues that pop up every once in awhile. It works great if I only do one thing at a time. For example, if I just work in Sonar I will have little problems. But if I dare open up youtube and watch a video or two then go back to working on my music, the thing will start having drop outs or latency issues. I have to make sure I reboot to clear out whatever is happening with the driver. Also, getting it to work in FL studio is really bad for some reason, those two items just don't play well together. This is all in a decent work grade Dell Omniplex 990 running win 7 home premium 32 bit and using the latest drivers from Mackie's web-site.So, in short, great hardware quality, great sonic quality, poor software and drivers. wdm, asio, and asio4all were all tested along with various latencies.UPDATE! Mackie released a new driver a couple weeks back and it solved all my issues. I have had zero problems since their newest driver was released. Thanks Mackie, a quality product and finally a company that really cares about it's customers! Mackie and amazon.com are both great customer service oriented companies!

Very high quality product. I don't know what is going on with some of you and this product saying that it has driver issues.....it's your computer that's having driver issues, not the product. (Coming from a computer technician) First off, there are always two sides to a story. There are a lot of things that some of you are NOT talking about in relation to this product. Just so you all know, I am also a sound engineer, and I have been installing Mackie products, just like the onyx black jack, for over 2 years on a weekly basis. I have never heard anyone complain about drivers, nor have I ever seen such a thing. If your computer isn't reading the drivers, it's your computer. You might be having USB problems, Windows driver issues, etc...This product sounds AMAZING with powered speakers. If you want to hook up your mic, this will do a great job. For the price, you get a lot of quality....the whole product is metal, thick, quality metal.I give this product two thumbs up......(If you're getting this, don't cheat yourself. Get Mogami cables (24k gold tips) for your Monitors or Mics. Mogami cables make a difference like night and day.....get them. I will never respect anyone with cables other than Mogami. It's like buying an expensive car, and putting Arco gas (87) octane. <-----one of the first things most people do is ignore the cables they use. Don't cheat yourself...pay more, get a WHOLE lot of quality.

Okay, I'm a total hobbyist when it comes to recording. I do the occasional podcast, voice overs for school assignments (the age of video has arrived), and really enjoy recording instruments. I must admit after getting a recommendation on Mackie quality from a very trusted music store many years ago, I have been intrigued by them. I spent a lot of time reading reviews and there are others out there in the same category (specifically 2x2) but what made the decision was the layout. I just thought it would keep the cabling cleaner on my desk and put the knobs in a better position - it did exactly that. No need to crouch down to see the knob or LEDs. There is some things I need to figure out still, like if the one input setting acts as a noise gate or if that was something in garage band. Tried the Tracktion 3 for about an hour and a half and went back to garage band. Just a much more intuitive interface (maybe less powerful if recording is your day job) and ships with a lot more effects that allow you to bring your guitar in direct and add some pretty darn good software effects. Very solid, looks great, sound great, inspires confidence, and if you care about looking like a pro, it does that too.

After I returned a new Behringer Xenyx Q502USB for noise and no USB power, and in spite of some negative opinions I took a chance on the Mackie. This unit is exactly what I needed and with the new drivers it works well with almost no noise, plus it's made in the U.S.. It can handle a direct injection guitar and a phantom powered mic with very low latency. The pre-amps sound rather good for a device in this price range. My only minor complaint would be the headphone jack on the control surface. I would have preferred it on the back out of the way. It is excellent for the solo home studio, simple and efficient. Should you decide to buy one I recommend using DPC latency checker to locate any usage spikes on your computer devices before you condemn the Mackie or it's driver.

THE DRIVERS WORK ON WINDOWS NOW FOLKS !After going from an m audio mobile pre 2 to a garbage focusrite saffire 6 (both sucked as far as latency and audio artifacts) the Mackie is amazing ! Have it set at minimum latency with 128 samples and I get overall input + output + processing on the asio drivers 13.6ms of latency with no artifacts or pops or anything. Performs amazing and also the pres on this thing are so crispy and loud. Have m audio av40s hooked up and this thing pushes them harder than any other interface I have messed with. It is very sturdy (steel case) and well built so I didn't even get a warranty with it because I doubt I will need it ever.So there you have it. Ignore all the driver issue reviews because that is no longer a problem and if you are stuck between this or the scarlett 2i2 I would definitely go with this product !!!:)
