Bought this external drive a month ago, since I wanted to keep my current internal DVD drive. This LG BE08LU20 has worked flawlessly and produced perfect BD discs. I've burned and erased about 10 times with BD-RE discs and have burned 3 BD-R discs. Each one turned out perfectly - no coasters.I've used quality blank discs - Verbatim BD-R and BD-RE. I can't speak for other brands, but reviews I've read indicate Verbatim has fewer problems.The USB connect is great if you have no ESATA external outlet. But it's much slower than using ESATA. USB burns at 480 mb/s. ESATA burns at 1.5 gb/s -- around 3 times faster. Significantly, LG includes an external ESATA bracket, with a cable, so you can easily create an external ESATA outlet (assuming your computer has an open ESATA connect on the motherboard and an available slot in the back). The bracket is the typical large size, so if you have a smaller computer, like the Dell Inspiron, you'll need to order a "low profile" ESATA bracket.It's a beautiful device and looks good, sitting next to your computer. It's easily set up. I had it up and running in about 5 minutes, and it's worked perfectly, from the beginning.

I have the Quad Core iMac running Snow Leopard 10.6.4 with 4g of RAM and using Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 with Adobe Encore CS5. I burned my first Blu-Ray of a movie I made of my family in about 30 minutes after transcoding it in Encore overnight. I just watched it in all it's glory on my 52' LCD. I highly recommend this burner. Oh, and I burned using the standard USB.

I had this unit since Christmas and so far I am very satisfied with it. Just hook it up to the computer and POOF! Though, there was some kind of firmware upgrade that had to be done, but that was accomplished automatically using Windows Vista. One thing to keep in mind, have about 1GB of video memory in order to get proper playback. The 256GB pre-installed video memory on my PC was not enough to handle Blu Ray playback. I got a cheap Nvidia 1GB card for about $80.00 from Best Buy to put in the PCI-E slot and this corrected the problem. The picture quality is perfect!!! Nice HD picture!!.

I realize that this is a relatively short period of use to base a review on, but after several weeks (and four burned discs), this Blu-ray writer has performed flawlessly.It looks very nice, is well-built, and extremely quiet.It was purchased by a client to burn Blu-rays for a specific project. I have been so impressed, that I will likely purchase one for myself! Highly recommended!

I'm very excited about this item. I purchased this when i have vista and was ready to start burning some blu rays when i put a blank bd-r in and it wouldn't let me format. I right clicked it to start the format and it said "This disc is imcompatible with this file system". I nearly lost my mind because I went and purchased all these blank blu ray discs and it wouldn't let me make back ups or burn stuff. So, I decided to upgrade to Windows 7 and it works great now. Im burning everything now. Apparently, this blu ray burner doesn't work with "UDF 2.5" and you have to have "UDF 2.60". I really hope this review is helpful to those who've experienced the message that says its imcompatible.

The box indicate only Windows 7/Vista/XP but i use with my MacBook Pro (Mid 2009) and Snow Leopard 10.6.3, i use Toast 10 Titanium Pro who inside CD have High-Def/Blu-Ray Disc Plug-in, owners of standard Toast 10 (Red Box) and old Toast 9 need to buy this Plug-in.

Tried three times to record a movie. Three times the recording failed. All it did was destroy a blank blu ray disk (at $5.00 per shot). Tried to return the product several times. The seller would not respond to an email. I have successfully burned dvds, but blu ray disks are impossible. This burner stinks!

I purchase this writer on the 01-25-10 and I tell ya..it is great. Good looking burner easy hook up.However in my case My pc had the sata board but not esata connection. It work fine but was slow. This is not the burner fault. I used verbatim disc and they work fine as well.The burner comes with software for powerdvd which is nice also. You won't be disapointed really.Blu ray movies look clear and sharp with all the sound fields. A must have.

I love this LG Blu Ray drive. If your wanting to watch or burn blu rays this is the external drive for you! As long as you have this right software and an E-sata cable your good to go!

The LG external blu-ray burner does a great job of burning quality videos.I use Cyberlink media suite to edit the material being burned.

Great blu-ray burns and light scribe'n! I have it working on a mac via toast and compressor from final cut pro to burn my home hd video from my sr-11 sony camcorder.
