so iam little bit dispointed to this result and kingston quality control issues
My unit was probably faulty and there was no firmware update to fix it.
Open application wasn't easy never before...
macrium reflect help me to copy windows 10 directly to my SSD...super simple...totally worth it...
Boot up time is 10 sec in my case...
Using it as drive C with 1 TB HDD for my games and media
The SSD has all features as mentioned. It's metallic body, maintains the temperature and does not allow it to overheat. Use another tool called speccy to monitor the system temp, specs and issues.
Thanks Amazon, though the first one didn't work, the replacement works perfect.
The most important aspect of an SSD is not speed or life expectancy. Almost all SSDs available in the market have read speeds hovering between 450 to 550 Mb/s and write speeds from 350 to 500 Mbps making all of them 5 (sequential) to 500 (random) times faster than any mechanical hard disk. This one is no exception. Almost all SSDs have a life expectancy (MTBF) of 1-2 million hours which is 110 to 220 years and this one is no different either.
But all SSDs have another limitation which is not much publicized, and that is.... endurance. If you write and erase too much data on an SSD continously, its NVRAM cells start to fail. There is always a limitation how much data can be written on an SSD and how many times. That is endurance, and it's expressed in TBW or "total bytes written" with an unit in Terabytes or TB. For this Kingston model, its TBW is very low - just 80 TB. Though in a practical world, 80 TB is a lot of data and if you keep writing 50GB of data per day, this SSD will still last for more than 4 years, but there are other more expensive brands and models which offer several times more endurance. A screenshot of the datasheet for this model from Kingston's own website is attached with this review.
Why did I buy this SSD if better models are available at a higher price? It's because I am using it in an old laptop which is not in a great condition. For me, a life of 2 to 3 years will be more than enough, so I wanted to spend as little as possible. But if you have a premium system, go for better models, for example Kingston KC600 which has almost double the endurance compared to this one.
2.Faster
One thing you should remember you have to connect directly to your pc and fire some OS in it then only you can see that ssd. This happened in my case Im not sure it is like this for all the ssd or only this.
So you bought this and you didn't find the disk if you connect it directly to pc/lap like external
Try installing a OS in it.
Good luck guy's
Performance wise ssd is fine but I really doubt its durability.
I also lost the bill and packaging , I guess I'm stuck with this dead ssd now.
The drive itself is extremely light almost to the point that I actually thought it was empty until I connected it to the laptop.
Couple of things
u need a 3rd party software to enable recognition of the device.
Plus after migration from hdd to ssd do replace the drive inside the laptop as OS won't boot if ssd is connected via usb
After everything is done u need to change the boot drive to the ssd in the bios
1) i use this laptop for occasional video watching and net surfing. WFH from this laptop was a nightmare.
2) it runs on SATA 2 connection which will be a real bottleneck in its speed.
I didn't want to purchase a new laptop as it will not have any usability. so i thought maybe i should proceed with this. Truthfully, best decision i ever made for my laptop. Boot time decreased significantly, apps launch without any delay..... operating the laptop is now fun in itself.
So, i went ahead, upgraded the ram from 2 to 4gig(that was maximum it cud be upgraded to), cleaned my laptop and bought a new battery, and now i think it can serve me for 3-4 more years before it cud be retired.
If you are planning to buy an ssd, just go ahead...trust me, it's a boon for the laptops. Its lightweight, power-saving and lightning fast.
Replaced i3 processor with i7
Replaced 4GB RAM with 16GB RAM
Replaced 1TB primary HDD with 240 SSD as primary. (Using 1TB HDD as secondary on my laptop using a HDD Caddy.)
Replaced 1GB Nvidia GT 720 Graphic Card with 3GB Nvidia GTX 1060.
Now my Acer E1-571G laptop is transformed into a High Performance GAMING LAPTOP!
PRO
-----
1. It's faster than an HDD and it makes great use for data-heavy apps like Video Editing, 3D Modeling and Games, as they load faster and save faster.
2. Read speed is about four times higher than an HDD and importantly write speed is significantly higher in real world speed, win10 loaded in about 9secs and Blender in about 3secs. Video editor requires your more SSD space but this SSD worked fast for small edits.
3. It's lightweight as any SSD and felt easy to install, it is electronic storage meant I just attached connectors and left hand over the HDD without fastening on the desktop cabinet.
4. I have added another Kingston SSD on a mini laptop with atom processor and it makes that laptop felt like an i3 based processor in startup and browser usage in general.
A great drive for system startup and few packages only with 240GB as limit.
CONS
------
None
In disk mgmt make it gpt drive and simple install it for use as storage drive or install using any windows install copying software to make it the windows drive but they should include the software for free even for this basic one
tl;dr
- Close your eye and buy the product if you want to make this as your external booting drive.
- Reduction in app opening time if you are installing any creative apps from adobe
- Data transfer is close to 80-100mps which makes it quite effective
After installing full compatible software in laptop boot time is 9 sec for start window and 4 sec to shutdown. Even hdd lags and hang in higher software use or any heavy task but ssd don't. Best ever experienced I ever had after purchasing laptop in 2018.
My laptop specs ( HP PAVALION au620tx )
15.6 inch HD+
i5 7th gen
2 gb nvidia 940 mx
8 gb ram ( DDR4)
240ssd now kingston 240gb ( before 1 tb toshiba hdd which was failer in 2 years of use bad experience)
NOTICE : whenever you recover windows 10 with boot pendrive it will take 1h 20min for full recovery with ssd.
I got a 140+mbps speed when copy a 1 gb movie from external sony HDD to C drive ssd( kingston). Similar to revert.
Speed when ssd to different ssd start between with 500 -300mbps really Amazing speed at that price of point.
I got it only at 2799/- on 2nd of June 2020
Don't think thrice
Jst go for it.
I am using i3 processor and earlier booting time is 1-2 min and now it is 10 sec or less
Opening chrome browser first time it takes 1-2 min now it takes hardly 2 seconds..
Now you can imagine the performance boost....
Blindly use it and you will never regret...happy with the product
