Other things to keep in mind, Huawei no longer offers bootloader unlock codes, so you won't be able to install a third-party ROM. This will be an issue down the line because it ships with an already old version of Android and, frankly speaking, EMUI interface is rubbish.
The active pen, if you need it, is available, albeit at extortionate price (currently over £40). It works reasonably well for note taking but it could be more responsive and slightly less laggy.
Screen quality is good for an IPS panel, but is nowhere near the quality and responsiveness of OLED. As expected, it is too bright for reading in bed, too dark in daylight.
The touch screen is average. Lag and accuracy is acceptable for pressing navigating the UI but for drawing you really need the active pen.
Speakers are better than expected, in most cases I don't need my headphones. Assuming people around are OK with it, of course. Works well with normal 3.5mm jack headphones as well.
I've got 3GB/32GB version. RAM usage so far is not a problem but 32GB of storage may be limiting in a long term as Huawei doesn't allow installing applications on an SD card.
Battery life is decent (lasts a day when new) but not great. Perhaps the strongest reason for choosing M5 Lite over T5. Charging port is USB-C.
Construction is good but the metal back is too slippery. It a fairly heavy and rigid device so it really needs a case for protection. In which case a plastic body would work just fine.
Otherwise, it is a very nice device for media consumption. For that purpose it works better than expected.

With only 16gb internal space, this renders the tablet fairly useless, which is a shame because the actual hardware is pretty good. I'm going to wipe mine, fill it with kids apps (not that it will take many - the OS takes up over 40% of your available space to begin with) for my daughter and buy a new tablet.
This will be the one and only product I buy from Huawei.

This is better than any competitor be it apple or sony ( and I love sony ).
Value for money and a quality tablet, it's good for watching movies/youtube/netflix, light gaming (mmos) and the camera is surprisingly good too!
It has a LOT of memory space for a tab in this price range or even higher ranges.
After looking for months I found this tablet and don't regret it. ( I hope this can help someone else in the position I was in)

The problem comes if you want to set up a restricted profile for the kids, for reasons best known to themselves Huawei have disabled profiles. They've also disabled setting your SD card as internal memory so your stuck with only about 20GB for apps.
If you don't need either of those features I can recommend it, if you do need them then look elsewhere.

Mainly used for watching TV, picture quality is good, but sound is a bit quiet, I've had to connect it to a speaker to hear it in our kitchen. Fine in my office though.
Fairly responsive touch screen, but a bit slow at times.
Battery life isn't great, I think about 2 hours or so when not plugged in and watching a film.
My sons have these tablets and they have been ideal for them, far better than the kindle fire kids ones.

Update - replacement works and my son is very happy with his purchase. He uses it most days and the battery lasts well, with only being charged 3x a week. It takes a while to charge due to the size of the screen, but it's not too bad. Great product for the money.

The first is they lie about the charge time the listing says fast charge of about 2.9 hours with fast charge!!!! Now I've tried charging it with the provided cable and wall charger but mine says about 4 hours when my tablet is at 49%... ???? Not sure if this is normal???
Second thing it's got a lot of apps that you can't remove !!!

Unfortunately, I feel let down by it. Perhaps I didn't do enough research into it.
It seems to be built very well but battery life is quite poor. If we're doing the shopping on it, maybe 30 minutes use, from a full charge, it may be left with around 50%.
It doesn't have the USB C charger / port, so takes a fair old time to charge too.
The screen is good and clear.
I was expecting better but it's not in heavy use, so will suffice and I expect it to last several years.

The in built app management is too aggressive, it's quite hard to create meaningful exceptions to it. E.g if I try to get Netflix to download in the background and turn the tablet off the process is destroyed. It's the same with a lot of background tasks.
The big disappointment for me is it's still running Android 8. There's not a big developer community for it, so not many options to up update it even unofficially by flashing it.
This may be related to the Huawei Google ban, but they keep saying it will get updated on the forums, but it doesn't.

I think it's probably the best value at this price point as I've had phones this price that haven't hit the mark and this just feels like a large phone (because it's Android).

The screen size is just right for my bedside table. I've got a swivel stand I leave it on. I bought a memory card so that I have storage space for downloads. It was simple to insert.
The settings are customisable in all the ways you would expect.
5* as I don't have any criticism
