Fairly happy with this device. It has clear sound and supports both standard G.711 and G.722 codecs, among other things. I didn't have much trouble getting it configured with my asterisk pbx, and the speaker phone and directory are half decent.I don't like that you have to go through a little bit of effort to disable the infographic screen so that it doesn't stay backlit all the time. I also don't like that when you dial a number, it leaves the dial tone playing until the call is getting passed off to the trunk instead of muting it after pressing the first button. The directory only supports about 150 numbers, which is a bit of a pain if you just export your phone directory from outlook or Google Voice. (That gets consumed quite quickly when you consider that many people have more than one phone number)But again, the voice quality is excellent, it has no trouble traversing NAT, and the battery life is good. Seems like a solid piece of German engineering. If it was a smidgen more usable and had fewer useless features (I don't need eBay, facebook or twitter on my DECT phone), it would be perfect.

UPDATE: 12/01/2011My family is really loving these phones. I recently got 2 more handsets for my kids' rooms. They are only 3 and 4, so we have the external lines turned off on their handsets. In other words, we use those 2 handsets only as intercoms and room monitors. Our 3 year old learned how to use the intercom in about 10 seconds, and is able to call us instead of shouting or crying for help. Lots of fun too.I have a handset next to my own bed, and I often use it at night to quickly check the weather reports and news headlines before I go to sleep. Just text, but still very handy.And finally, the handset in my home office has an extra SIP account registered to voiSip PBX system at my office. So I can make calls out from my office number, and receive calls as though I was at my office extension.These phones are harbingers of even greater things to come. I love having home phones again, instead of just a cell phone.[back to original post]I recommend this phone quite often to go with voiSip VoIP phone service. It has some really neat features for small businesses and families.PROS:Two simultaneous VOIP calls, plus an optional 3rd call using a land line.Gigaset.net has really neat apps for this phone, like weather, stocks, email, facebook, encyclopaedia and more.The day/night mode is nice, so calls don't wake your family at night. And the phones can be used as a room monitor, which is popular with moms, dads, bosses, etc. (feature can be disabled as well).Phone can connect directly to some VoIP providers, like voiSip, without requiring a separate adapter such as required with Vonage and most other VOIP companies. Very easy to setup and saves a bunch of money!CONS:It only support 2 VoIP calls + 1 analog call. So really that's just 2 VoIP calls for most users who get rid of their analog lines.Other than that, nothing to pick at, other than wishing for even more on future models.ALTERNATIVES: (for a bit more money)The SNOM m9 is also very easy to setup with voiSip, but supports 4 simultaneous VOIP calls, and up to 9 handsets. It is a trade off though, since it doesn't have all the family friendly features of the C610A.Another alternative is the Panasonic KX-TGP500. It does 3 simultaneous VOIP calls (up to 6 handsets), and has a really nice "feel" that is well suited to small office use.

Very happy with the phone, it's interface, features, battery life, call quality. I just wish it was black and not white. I bought two additional handsets (Gigaset C610H) in black. I think it looks far better in black and shows dirt far less.Keep in mind doesn't employ the full fledged ECO mode that is available on European version, but it still reduces power usage and therefore exposure to radiation by a significant degree.The L410 portable clip is a nice add on that I use frequently for longer calls.

So much so, I'm trying to sell it. Besides, they update the firmware every five minutes, so every five minutes you have to reboot the whole thing, unplug this, unplug that, wait for ever, and repeat five minutes later. No really...

I owned a C470IP for 7 years now and it started to give some troubles (with charging etc). Since it's located in the tropics where equipment usually does not pass the 3 years (due to high humidity and salty air) I say this is an excellent prestige. Anyway, replace it with this model and it's a great improvement from the older model. Wireless reaches any room in the house and well into my yard (any corner).

C610A IP was just released in US, so my opinion is based on early-version of firmware.Pros:* Good voice quality* Excellent operating distance (benefit of DECT technology vs WiFi-based VOIP phones)* support for multiple VOIP accounts + fixed line* well designed handset and base station* nice add-on features (weather / ebay / FB / tweeter / etc)* multiple handset support with single base station* ability to sync address books between handsets* good priceCons (there is no "no buy" sorta cons, most are minor):* Once you (unsuccessfully) dialed a number after searching address book, there is no way to go back to the search results and dial an alternative number. You have to search one more time. Annoying.* not so-flexible diaplan configuration (can't manipulate with dialed number, like prefix it with a certain number, etc... better interface, but yet not as flexible as on Cisco VOIP phones)* how about central, base-station based address book with the ability to edit it via WEB? I don't think anyone actually need a separate address book on each handset and then required to sync them between handsets.* base station web-interface is somewhat slowish (but earlier models of gigaset are even worse)* some parts of the interface (especially configuration) are not intuitive enough. I could not figure out idea of how free calls via gigaset.net work.* few times I hit "transmission error" between handset and base station during configuration* I know it's a long shot, but a thought to Gigaset: how about Android-based version?* power adapters for both handset and base station seems to be a switch-based, however label rated 110V only, so if it's true, one won't be able to use it on a different power grid if needed. Though I have a suspicion that they will actually work on 220V as well and it's just a labeling issue.* when adding another handset (C610H) to the setup, the first original one went into some semi-registered state (would not place calls, half of the menus stopped working) and I had to re-register it with the base.Overall I'm satisfied with the phone and recommend it. Hopefully Gigaset will clean up those little quirks with future FW updates.(updated July 2011)

We are very impressed with our new Gigaset phone. It has all of the features of the expensive At&t set it replaced. I was skeptical, but I really like this phone system and it is a great value :)

We have a 3 story home and the phones seem to charge well and ring just fine. stepping away from the house and they break up quickly, but inside they do the job. Nice weight and easy to hold. have them for 6 months and still doing fine.

I like the Gigaset. Voip installation as a standalone was easy. Would have gotten 5 stars, but the contact list programming is too difficult. I was missing a tool via the webaccess, where all other options are configured.The screensaver weather page is nice.

The Gigaset C610A is for the most part a good IP phone. One problem is the interface on the accessory handsets is different from the ones that come with the base unit. Voice quality for the most part id very good. The range for extension phones is very good. I would suggest this phone to anyone seeking an IP phone but with the caveat that Gigaset does not warranty phones purchased from Amazon. This is a direct quote from Gigaset: "all warranty claims for Gigaset phones purchased over Amazon must be handled by Amazon". The answering machine has sporadic problems. I originally gave this phone a five star review but have down graded it to three stars after a few months.

We purchased this system as we believed the manufacturer produced quality product. Boy were we wrong. Terrible system. Impossible to register remote units, range only about 30 feet in our house. When phone would ring and we answered, phone would go dead. Very obnoxious ring tone. Just poor engineering.So much for made in Germany. This is a great phone, with excellent voice quality and multi-line SIP capabilities.I use this as a SIP extension with my Asterisk PBX at home.The web-based interface for configuration is also great.The only con is that time it takes to perform a firmware update - almost 30 mins!

I bought this to replace a burned out Linksys PAP2T (which lasted less than a year.) The device worked great out of the box. After charging the phone, the the device will check and update the firmware. The SIP configuration was wizard driven, and did not require any router configuration to work. The phone feels a bit light (not cheap, due to small batteries) as the device has nice buttons, and a nice display. It comes with 2 AA rechargeable batteries and a charging dock. The best feature is the sound quality, which I would rate as excellent.

I have 2 lines at my home. One is a personal line the other is for a home business. Going to VoIP definitly will save you money. My issue was that I actually save about $80 a month because of bundled discounts from Verizon by keeping my line with them so it's not cost effective to change both to VoIP.This phone lets you have the best of both worlds. You can plug your regular phone line into it and then have up to 6 VoIP lines as well.It's super easy to configure took me 5 minutes to get it up and running.Ton's of features.The other great thing I like is it has the ability to share the phone book between all the handsets and each handset can be configured differently based on what the person wants.

Answering machine does not work! Everytime I would check my messages, the handsets would disconnect and reset the base. Not an isolated incident! Returned the item and requested a replacement and it did not fix the problem as it is a firmware problem with Gigaset. Gigaset support advised me to wait for new update for firmware. Do not purchase if you are planning to use the built in answering machine!

I use this phone with my PBX-in-a-Flash Asterisk system. Works perfectly, and came up pretty easily. Though I haven't measured the range, it works fine throughout my 3-story house and the back yard with no noticeable degradation in sound quality which, BTW, is excellent. Some nice unexpected extras, like the info services which give a weather forecast, news, and a bunch of other stuff on the handset. Also, you can add up to five more handsets to the DECT transmitter that comes with this, and those will be cheaper. I think that any DECT handsets, like the 580H, will do.It's also nice that it uses standard rechargeable AAA batteries, so when they need replacement it's not a search for a weird proprietary battery.

I was looking for a high grade cordless phone and answering machine. I was not interested in the cheap phones at the big box stores. These are great phones. The answering machine works great, nice clear sound. The battery life is great. I am surprised that phones powered by 2 AAA batteries last for days out of the cradle. Excellent quality and features. These phones, and answering machine are made in Germany not China by Seimens. My logic was since they make medical equipment they should make a quality phone. Well I'm impressed. Sure it is plastic but it feels like someone actually put some effort into the design.
