I bought this about a year ago for use Ableton on my older iMac. It worked flawlessly although I don't really do much with it besides plug in a couple monitors and occasionally plug a bass into it.A few months later I upgraded to a new computer and this time went the PC route. The box barely worked with my motherboard's firewire jacks which used the VIA chipset. After buying a separate SIIG card with the TI chipset (around $40) and changing to legacy firewire drivers on Windows 7 it worked fine -- most of the time. However once or twice a day the audio driver would completely crash. Not a huge deal -- I just open Control Panel and toggle my audio interface on and off which restarts the driver. I usually have to restart most music programs as well (Spotify, for example, pops up "There is a problem with your sound card" and won't work until you quit and re-launch). Ableton seems to work as soon as the driver is restarted. Sort of a hassle.I installed windows 8 a few months ago and the drivers more or less imploded. The driver crashed every 20 seconds or so which basically meant it was impossible to use any audio program. In addition, they would completely freeze my computer every hour or so. WOW.Focusrite just released updated drivers which have brought me back to where I was with Windows 7 -- only crashes a few times a day. YAY!UPDATE:Version 3.0 of the drivers came out a few months ago which resolved most of the issues. The sound would occasionally start getting very distorted and glitchy so I would just have to restart the computer every day or so to fix it. At least I could run use my $500 studio monitors again!I updated to version 3.1 of the drivers which were supposed to add Windows 8 compatibility. Instead, they added Windows 8 non-functionality. My computer seems to think there are no problems with the interface, but no sound comes out whatsoever. To make matters worse, rolling back to the previous driver didn't solve the issue. I've been without sound on my computer for a week now and have yet to figure out how to solve these issues. Oh well, at least I have headphones and an iPod.UPDATE:So... for some stupid reason I finally got sound working again by going to File > Load From Hardware in MixControl. Not sure why that did it but glad to have it back.

I purchased a Focusrite Saffire Pro 24 DSP about a year ago. It's exactly what I needed and then some. Two quality mic-pre's, which can be switched from Inst to Line level via the software. Phantom power. Mains level, and 2 headphone levels right on the front. And then all kinds of ins/outs on the back I haven't even had a use for yet. Except I do use the old school MIDI in and out; those works flawlessly. With the Focusrite software, you can set up independent monitor mixes, so the capability for tracking a small group is there, if you can get all but two items up to line level. I haven't done this myself, but the fact you can do 100% of the monitoring control with the interface means that you can give your artists a good mix with absolutely no latency... because they are monitoring directly, not monitoring what is going into the computer and then back out again. This package also comes with a few Focusrite plugins for AU. Nothing too earth-shaking with the plugs, but a nice alternative to stock plugs if the occasion arises. The VRM (Virtual Reference Monitoring) is nice. Again, it's not jaw-dropping, but it can be helpful to simulate other environments in your headphones. If your phones can't reproduce bass, then you aren't going to hear bass in the VRM. You can't create something where it doesn't exist to begin with. One minor bummer: you can't control how the primary Monitor volume control behaves in regards to the secondary outputs. I have added a subwoofer to my mains; but I have to split the signal from Outputs 1&2 because I can't control Outputs 3&4 (or 5&6) from the Monitor volume knob on front. There is control in the supplied MixControl software, but that is highly inconvenient if the Saffire is what you are using to control your listening volume. But for most people, this will not be an issue.Bottom line: If you are looking for something which is a step-up from a total-entry level audio interface, this one is a great value. MIDI, two excellent pre's, two separate headphone volume controls, knobs on the front for what you need. I am very happy with my purchase!

I feel a real need to post this because it will drive a lot of people mad like me and it took a lot of my time to find this knowledge out on my own, so i'm gonna make it easy on whoever is thinking about buying this...I have a custom made pc with Windows 7, 64 Bit. I tried hooking it up with the firewire that I had on here and I could not get ANY sound to come out this thing, NONE AT ALL. I tried switching the firewire to the Legacy drivers like the Focusrite website says and still NO SOUND. I eventually found out that you need to have a TI(Texus Instruments) compatible firewire card on your pc.http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000G6U8VY/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1I bought the one from the above link, was feeling lazy last night, went to best buy, gave them 50 to install it. It works, everything sounds good, we're good to go...the above firewire card is PCI-E so you know what kind of slot your PC needs to have. There's also a list of Focusrite approved cards on a website somewhere you will have to google. That is it, knowledge is power, have a nice day...One more note, if you going from one firewire card to another, you will have to un-install Saffire Mixcontrol and disable that old device, make the new your default. Then Re-install the latest version with is MixControl 3.1 I think...for now, good to go, i'll update if anything changes...

Prior to this, I had a cheap USB interface with pretty awful preamps. This box was a big step up and is ideal for a small recording setup (or a portable recording setup) where you have maximum 2 mic inputs. It has one monitor out and couple of headphone outs for tracking.Pros :- The preamps are very clear sounding.- The VRM is interesting to A/B your mix in different settings.- Setup on a mac with logic studio was painless. The included mix control software can be used to do all the routing.- Zero latency tracking is possible with effects like reverb and compression- The front inputs accept hi-z inputs from guitars / bass.Cons :- The workable range of the gain knob is pretty much 8-10. I wish those knobs were designed to improve resolution because sometimes it takes a little bit of time to get the exact mic levels when you have so little room to work with.- Only firewire. No thunderbolt or USB

I needed a good interface and didn't want to use a separate digital recorder then have to xfer it to the Mac. This hooked up quickly and the software loaded easily. I haven't used that part yet but once it was in the system immediately recognised the equipment and went right to work. Very easy to use and connected to my Heil PR 40, the sound is beautiful with no discernible noise issues. I use Garage Band a lot so am hoping to get this set up with it. My home voice over studio is not set up. I thought about getting a stand alone digital audio processor but will wait off on that. Most of the software has that built in, thus requiring processing in post. All I need is to hear my voice in the PRO 24 monitor then I'll mess with the rest later. So far, it works very well, feels and sounds like equipment costing much more. It is so worth it for your home and simple interface. If you prefer to use USB II rather than firewire, the results should be the same. D/A latency issues will be a little more pronounced here if you monitor using your computer. I purchased the Firewire 400-800 converter cable and was pleased to see works well. I'll add more when I get some time in with their software and Garage Band. Thumbs up.

Великолепно

I was suggested this product by a guy at Guitar Center, when i went in looking for an M-Audio Mbox. He was disappointed that he couldn't get his commission, but I had a gift card to Amazon that holiday season. This DAC/DAW processes pristine audio, and if you don't have software, it comes with multi-functional software that will do the basics of what you need. (Ableton lite and its own DAW interface). The only thing that I've had is my friend's XLR's was very tightly plugged into the amped input on the front. On forums, it was a known problem and people had gone as far as opening it up to get it out. I was obviously very disappointed and scared. However, I simply pulled firmly, and it disconnected. I believe it's just a pretty tight fit, but I wouldn't worry about it. Just don't keep cables plugged into your hardware, but that seems to be common sense. Oh, and the firewire connector it uses is somewhat obsolete, because PC's oftentimes don't have them any more, so keep that in mind. I simply put a firewire chip in my PC, but I had it lying around.Worth every penny!
