I was so excited specially after spending $1600 for an ipad2 64gb with midi controller and alesis io dock, all intended for live performance.I bought the item on Saturday, filled out the electronic form and got my confirmation number, on monday I called alesis and being told was going to get 2-4 weeks to get the adapter delivered, How could this be possible? I asked about the possibility to overnight my shipping, they said it was completely feasible as long a I didn't filled out the electronic form with my serial number on it and I cover the shipping expenses from my pocket.Are you kidding me alesis? I was going to return it, I paid $240 for it including 2 year protection coverage, but will keep it because I know some musicians who have been doing marvelous with this unit for live performance usage. I wonder why fusion hd series wasn't a success.Now the bad news for you guys: currently(10/26/2011) this is the only one docking solution for professional mobile use for IPAD 2.the other ones are not dockable and are 100% compatible with the IPAD 2 as well:Fostex HD-P1($599)iaudiointerface2($399)istreamer($199)Audiolink II($99)Presonus Audiobox usb 2x2($129)and if you can find the great edirol(already discontinued)UA-25EX this will work great(excellent preamps)Behringer uca 202 and uca222(both are ok, they are not great but very useful specially for the price)updated(11/4/2011) just got my ipad 2 adapter from alesis, it came by fedex, only took 1 week, I was really upset at first and who won't, after updating to latest firmware 1.07 just in case because of well known noise issues with previous firmware and IOS 5, I'm absolutely amazed and surprised about the sound quality on this device, some people say it's overpriced, it's totally worth it if you want to make serious recording with the convenience of just want to have the convenience of only one unit and it's intended to live use as well(my case.)At 30% volume level with a headphone playing the piano, the sound quality with a sennheiser hd 280 was clean,crispy and clear and loud enough to satisfy my audiophile ego. I'm totally satisfied with this product, so far only one of my 8 music production Ipad apps, didn't work with it, it was sampletank for IOS, there was some unpleasant and loud noises in the background when I used a midi keyboard(tested several keyboards including umx610,keyring 49, umx250, motif xf6, korg pa500) with the IO Dock, just be warned. So far and 100% working with alesis io dock, includes the following IOS apps: musicstudio, nanostudio, fruit loops mobile, pianist pro, piano hd, garage band and prokeys. Highly recommended.updated(11/11/2011) after reading all posts from angry ipad 1 users who are having serious issues with io dock(no longer recognized after iOS 5.0 update), I started testing thoroughly, to be honest I never recorded anything with io dock, my main goal with alesis unit was intended for live use, using the clean preamp with line balanced outputs for my live performances(live piano playing), for that sorely purpose it worked and it works amazingly, now about recording that is an entirely different story, currently(after 5.0.1 update) only apps working are currently Multitrack DAW(only with truly multitrack support up to 4 simultaneous mono recording)and musicstudio(mono recording in channel 2 only), garageband hiss issue is partially fixed with latest (5.0.1), most of the time records without a hiss, and sometimes it doesn't, had to restart(reboot) the device or reset settings. Improvements after 5.0.1 update with alesis IO dock and garage band, the hiss when it happens is less noticeable, almost perfect. the sad part, we are only months away from ipad 3 release(supposessly april 2012) and we still don't have a fully working unit(io dock), iOS 5.XX is a major improvement regarding multitrack audio recording, the software and hardware needs to catch up. Most of the audio app developers are lost in the limb about this iOS5 situation, either don't have any clue or are uncapable to deal with. We cannot not make entirely responsible to apple, 3rd hardware manufactures are the only ones responsible for this whole situation, they are suppose to respond to us not apple. Lifecycle for Ipad's devices are too short, current platform is still unmature but has lots of promising potential for professional audio recording. Unfortunately current Ipad1/2 and io dock, users are the ones affected for this whole mess. I still have 2 weeks to return my io dock, however will keep it, there are many great things on this device. Hopefully this will be fix anytime soon.

I bought the io2 express from Alesis as a temporary stand in for my Presonus Firebox which needed some maintenance after five years of heavy use. I saw the Alesis and since the price was right, went ahead and ordered one. I'm very impressed with this interface. Impressed enough to put my Presonus on the shelf for a while.I'm using this with a three year old Dell XPS laptop with a dual core processor and 2 GB RAM. The pros that I see with the io2 express are these:It's USB bus powered so it doesn't need its own external power supply. That makes it as compact and lightweight as possible. It's small enough to fit inside the front pocket of my laptop case.Its installation and use have been the easiest of any interface I've used. Within five minutes of opening the box I was recording a guitar track. I did end up opting to use the ASIO4All drivers that are available on the Product page of Alesis' web site. They improved the latency from that of the class compliant driver by about 5ms. Class compliant latency was about 11ms, ASIO4All was 6ms. I suspect that with newer, faster computers that the latency will be lower.It has the ins and outs that I need for about 95 percent of the recording and mixing I do. Two XLR ins on the top, two line/instrument ins on the top, an insert on each channel(this makes me very happy. I can now run a different effect on each channel at the same time. There is a mic/line/instrument switch on each channel, a headphone jack on top with mono/stereo switch for monitoring, and a separate level control for the headphones. There is a mix control that allows you to control the mix of the tracks that are being recorded with the tracks that the computer is playing back. No software mixers! This alone made me think twice about plugging in the Firebox again. Finally there is 48V phantom power for my favorite condenser mics and a control for the main level. On the back of the box are MIDI in/out jacks and left and right main outs for your monitors, along with the USB plug.Alesis was smart in putting all the controls and inputs on top. Everything you need to see can be seen easily from one angle without having to reach around the back to plug things in, or open a mixing utility on your computer to change mixer settings. This is a very economically and ergonomically designed unit.Last, but certainly not the least of the pros, the sound quality of this box is amazing. I've spent hundreds of dollars on tube preamps that don't sound as good as the preamps in the io2 express. And the converters also perform well past what I expected and honestly they make my Presonus sound almost dull by comparison. This by itself should be a strong enough selling point for most people to go ahead and order one.I write an easy home recording for beginners blog and this will be the featured interface for any novice recording engineer/hobbyist. Its ease and sound quality make it perfect.There are a couple of cons to mention. The case is hard plastic, which feels durable enough but it's not anywhere close to rugged. I suspect that this wasn't designed with repair in mind due to the low price, so the case also can't be easily opened to replace or repair inside parts. The knobs and switches also are on par with what I've come to expect with lower priced electronic equipment, although they are better than some other products I've used that cost a lot more(Line 6). Another con is the latency with the class compliant driver and the extra steps to download and install ASIO4All. ASIO drivers have become such a standard in the computer audio industry that I'm surprised they aren't included. That being said, I'm sure costs were contained by not having to include extra stuff in the package. The last of the cons is that since it's USB powered, the drain on the laptop battery is pretty quick. It lasted about a half hour before I had to plug in the external power supply. This is minor in my opinion since 99 percent of the time that I'm recording with my laptop it's plugged in any way.So novice audio engineers get out your plastic and order now. This is worth the cash.

What a disappointment. Apps on the iOS devices for creating, editing and recording audio are maturing. What's needed for pro efforts is a way to get good quality audio and MIDI in and out of the devices. There are precious view gadgets that can handle microphones, line-level inputs, MIDI and guitar-level inputs. On paper, the IO Dock sounded great.But then, there were the reviews. Negative outnumbered highest positives here on Amz by 10 to 7. I wish I'd paid attention.I found the device to be cosmetically lovely, well thought out and easy to hook up. Alas, that's where the good news ended. The mic input (there are two XLR/1/4" hybrids but only one seems to have a mic-level switch) started registering, but MIDI wouldn't work. Then MIDI started working but the mic was dead. I updated the firmware per instructions, after which the unit would no longer charge the iPad. Supposedly, one can find the firmware version under the Settings, but mine never showed up, and then neither mic nor MIDI would work. The only thing it didn't do was burn dinner.Adorama Camera is to be strongly complimented for their response. When I called to ask why I had to pay to return a defective product, they said they were very glad I called, and sent me a prepaid shipping label within minutes. Vince in Customer Service clearly knew the meaning of the words. He was most helpful and obliging, and I recommend them as a seller. Thanks, Adorama.That said, this is a product with a clear history of defects, and some users have reported little to no satisfaction from Alesis. Perhaps the question is why anyone is buying this thing! Though some folks are having great results, many others are reporing defective units, at least according to online reviews and forum activity. Would that merchants, who ultimately have to deal with the headaches, would hold someone's feet to the fire about so many non-working units being out there. QC at Alesis clearly needs some help, and I'd certainly think twice about buying another product from that company. So why did I buy this? I hoped to be one of the lucky ones. I wasn't.The TASCAM iU2 Channel Audio Interface is either available or soon to be, depending upon to whom you're listening. It's available here on AMZ, and looks (again, on paper) like it'll be a great alternative to the Alesis, at about the same price. TASCAM iU2 Channel Audio Interface TASCAM is a brand I've been using since 1978, and I've always loved their products. Looks like that'll be the way to go... but I plan to wait for some reviews -- and believe them.

If you are planning to buy IO Dock DO NOT upgrade to iOS 5 - it will render the hardware unusable. Until iOS 5 it was really great interface - after iOS 5 is is useless - you cannot get clean recording with most of the apps - Ampkit+, JamUP, GarageBand are all broken. Crackling hiss. Alesis and Apple point fingers at each other - no telling when the new firmware update will be here. There is no way to get through to Alesis tech support. I feel like I wasted $200 on yet another interface that will likely become obsolete after iPad3. Very frustrating.Update 10/29/11 - Alesis released firware upgrade 1.07 yesterday - I just installed it and first impression is that at least for some apps it made huge difference - Garaga Band works again. So does Ampkit+. JamUP lite still not working correctly - very low output. I need more testing but I think that the worst may be over.I am changing rating from 2 stars to 4 (tentatively at least - will see if there and long term degradation in performance with 1.07.Update 11/11/11 - I must say that Alesis is playing games with us. There is whole group of very angry consumers out there that bought the hardware and several apps to run on it and are getting no help from Alesis - no reply to emails - there is no way to get tech support on the phone. At present Alesis (via their representative on the community forum) is claiming that the newest iOS version 5.0.1 has fixes for audio issues and is encouraging people to install that version and "report the results". In other words they are looking for free testers. People that installed 5.0.1 say that it did not make any difference.At this point I would not advise anybody to buy IO Dock unless you are still running IOS4 and you do not pan to upgrade.In a view of irresponsible treatment of customers by Alesis I am changing review back to 2 stars.Please google "Get Satisfaction" ALESIS online forum (or better "Io dock hiss").for newest developments in IO Dock and iOS5 incompatibility.Update 03/09/12after months of promises that iOS5.1 would fix the problem Alesis decided to CENSOR his own online help forum - actively removing any post critical of their handling of the problem (lack of any warning about iOS5.0 for months that might contributed to several people being experience hearing loss after IO Dock emitted loud screech into their headphones). TUpdate 03/11/12Alesis closed original thread "Io dock hiss" on "Get Satisfaction" forum and marked it "Solved". Thread contained 1055 messages from 127 people - that may give you some idea about the scope of the problem. Couple months ago Alesis try damage control by limiting visible message to most recent 15 and tried to blame it on forum administrators.Now - after old thread is "solved" the new thread "IO dock still hissing after firmware and ios 5.1 updates" emerged and this time Alesis simply deletes any unflattering messages.

Good idea, poor execution. On my first day I wrote a raving 5-star review for this thing. But as time went I got better acquainted with its under-engineering and now I decided not to waste my time and nerves and take it back to the store. These are my experiences with it:1. It would explode with white noise in Cubase (audio system crash). I thought it was USB load related problem. Disconnecting my wifi adapter (and pretty much everything else) helped for a couple of days. But today I got audio crash too. I changed cables, tried it with different USB ports, but alas, nothing helped. This device is USB 1.1 btw, confirmed on Alesis forums. I wouldn't mind once a week crash, but the thing is, you expect it to happen any second, and they do scare the crap out of you, they're really loud bursts of static like noise. Imagine working on the mix, you lean forward towards your monitors trying to discern some little detail in the mix and suddenly WHSHHHHSSHSHSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! Like in a horror movie, only in those movies you expect to be scared. Is Alesis trying to give their customers heart attack? Alesis should put this in their IO2 description: "After working with our IO2 no horror movie will ever scare you again" or "Save on hospital bills for cardio stress tests - just use our IO2!"2. MIDI wouldn't work every other time. Unplugging/plugging method worked only every other time as well. It seemed completely random. Sometimes it would start working, sometimes it took me good 5 minutes to make it work (just repeatedly pluggin/unplugging, restarting Cubase etc).3. It hisses/whines pretty noticeably. I switched from high-end audiocard+mixer setup (to streamline my studio, tired of cables and too many objects on my desk), and I thought I had that before too just got used to it, but no, after plugging in my old hardware there was no hiss in the monitors. Plugged Alesis - welcome back, noise. Same balanced cables, same everything. This thing just whines.4. ASIO latency with ASIO4ALL driver was about 14ms for me (at default settings, buffer 512 etc) - and I have i7-950 CPU, 8Gb RAM and superfast HDDs...I could have wait for their customer support to help me, but I decided against it - internet is full of testimonies of lack of thereof and its complete uselessness, and that was enough for me. So I put IO2 in the box and I'm going to return it to the store. I'll just stick with my old setup, it's bulky but it works like it should.P.S. No wonder Alesis filed for bankruptcy - if they keep pumping out products like this they're going to be back in Chapter 11 soon.

I cannot believe that nobody mentioned this. I thought I was crazy when it happened. In 2013 nobody thought about blending the channels?You have two inputs. One is the left channel and one is the right channel. You will hear 100% pan, with no option to blend.For a system that is specifically targeted at the home recorder, who is looking for a quick way to lay down some tracks, this is absurd. I don't want to hear my music all in my left ear. If you dig enough in the Alesis forums you'll finally see someone admit "this is by design - we didn't want latency issues."Because, yeah, this is an unsolvable problem... how to mechanically bridge two channels into one. We've got the Gordian Knot on our hands with that one. Thanks for not tossing in a Y cable, Alesis. How thoughtful of you.I rarely give one-stars, but seriously - this item was designed by people with no marketing sense. If I wanted a stereo-only recording platform, I would have bought one intentionally. For them to not even mention this is deceitful.
