This was my first Epson printer. I've always used HP in the past. I thought Epson might be good because the colors of ink are separate. I liked it at first. The first few pages printed nicely, and there were no weird problems printing from Windows or Linux (Ubuntu). But....The one I got started bleeding ink on the paper edge. I had purchased this at Bestbuy, and also got their $20 Black Tie service plan. Silly mistake... To get it fixed I'd have to let them send it out for one month, and this is my only printer, so I didn't.I tried fixing the bleeding problem with all the maintenance operations. None of those helped. I tried a fresh black ink cartridge (the bleeding ink is black) and that didn't help.I haven't even ran a full ream of paper through this printer and it's on its second black ink cartridge - and is making bad prints. I'm looking for a new printer now, not an Epson. Even though they're cheap, I'd advice getting a different brand, because with the amount of ink they use (or in my case waste) you can buy a nicer printer. And, if it's making bad prints like mine, it really doesn't matter: however much you paid is a waste.

It is very convenient to have an all-in-one printer; it may be quality is sacrificed for convenience in the upper low-priced range of machines.I would not buy this machine again because it was designed with the objective of creating a steady but not overly unreasonable demand for overpriced ink among customers who purchase equipment in this price range. When any of the four colors of ink run out, the entire machine ceases to work until that ink cartridge is replaced. The machine is extremely inefficient in its ink usage and does not make it easy to mitigate the use of the colored ink.

This all-in-one prints quickly at good quality as claimed, but I soon discovered it is very fussy about paper. I like to use back sides of old paper for drafts. It rejects them if even slightly curled at the edges. Then I discovered it wouldn't accept transparency sheets at all - it either says (falsely) that the sheets caused a paper jam or says no paper is loaded. (Granted, overhead transparency projection is on the way out, but it is still occasionally the best thing available.) Then I discovered the NX515 won't accept paper with 3-hole punches - much of my used paper has 3 holes in it already. Were all these rejections a problem with my individual machine or a deliberate feature? I had read the specs on Amazon quite carefully before buying, and there was no mention of such limitations. I went to the Epson website and such limitations are not mentioned in the NX515 specs. After some effort searching the Epson website, I finally found in the additional FAQs for this printer that these limitations are deliberate features. There is apparently another such feature: the only envelope you can print on is the #10. I use #12's sometimes. None of these restrictions applied to my old Epson CX4600! Is this progress to add such restrictions and not even announce them? I guess the NX515 has an optical sensor and uses it to reject all sorts of media to limit jams, but I need to print on the other media and now I've already bought this machine. Maybe I better not junk my old CX4600 after all - I bought a new machine because the red ink on the old one wasn't printing and no amount of cleaning, new catridges, or fixes suggested in forums on the internet could fix it. Does anyone know if competing printers from other companies now have similar media restrictions?

I'm a graphic design student at the Art Institute. I had been taking my school projects to Kinko's, Office Max, and the school's print room to get things printed until I figured out the correct settings for this printer. What a WORLD OF DIFFERENCE it has made being able to do my work at home and print it right here. It was so frustrating when the other places would charge an arm and a leg or mess the color of my image all up, but now if it doesn't look right I can adjust and reprint without standing at a counter for hours till they call a tech over to figure out what they've done wrong. I would recomend this printer to everyone and will probably only buy Epson for the rest of my career. It has certainly done it's job in helping me to maintain a 4.0 gpa with quality work.

Purchased this printer based on reviews & features. Unfortunately the printer is not very reliable. After having the printer for just a few months it quit recognizing the print cartridges(they were genuine epson). Messed with the machine for half a day trying to get it to print correctly & couldn't. Printer still under warranty, epson sent me a re-furbished unit. 6 months later same problem with refurb. unit. Can nobody make a good printer anymore?

I purchased this printer from Amazon in February 2010. I had to get it replaced by Epson the first time in September 2010 and the second time in January 2011. They groused about replacing it the second time because the warranty had expired on the first printer (they don't count the replacement as starting over for the warranty), but that was waived because I purchased it from Amazon. When it works, it's a great printer. The problem is that after a using it for a bit, it starts to get blank lines in the black ink. This can not be fixed, and the printer has to be replaced. I use only Epson ink, so the problem is not caused by off-brand inks. Also, the customer service provided by Epson is a joke. Their CS reps clearly have a script to read and can not deviate from it, to the point that they will talk over you if you try to get in a word while they're going through their litany. I have been a loyal Epson customer since the late 90s, but I will never buy another Epson printer.

To be fair, the scanner works quite nicely, however any credit I would have given that is moot considering the horrible quality of the printer. If it weren't bad enough that the paper is inserted vertically which makes it very difficult to feed single sheets into the printer and the printer constantly jams, I replaced the cartridges on just two occasions before the printer head got clogged and wouldn't print black. The way to solve this is to run a cleaning cycle which wastes half a cartridge of ink (in every color) per cycle. I literally went through TWELVE cartridges of ink trying to fix it. Still nothing. Customer support was no help at all. Though it's still under warranty, I wouldn't replace this printer if you paid me.Avoid Epson at all costs.

We chose this model because we wanted wireless connectivity, built in scanner, individual cartridges for each color. What we like: Fast, wireless, and good print quality and scanning. What we DO NOT like: The blank paper holder will not accommodate a reasonable number of pages - more than twenty pages or so and it just won't load a sheet for printing, so we are constantly putting paper in it and it's a little tricky to get it in just right so the printer is happy. The receiving tray is flimsy and clumsy to use, and there are just too many bells and whistles to fuss with. However, the biggest problem is the fact that every time there is a power outage or even a slight flicker, the IP address resets itself, requiring that we delete the Epson printer in the Control Panel and reinstall the printer with the new IP address for three computers!!!! If there is a rain cloud in the sky, you can almost certainly count on resetting everything again. We contacted Epson about the problem and their solution was to do the exact thing we had been doing to correct the problem - UNACCEPTABLE! Honestly, my old HP 970c purchased in 1998 has equal print quality, only slightly slower, just as quiet, sturdier and absolutely no muss and fuss. The only reason we replaced the HP was because we wanted an all-in-one unit. It's a good thing I'm cautious and held on to the old HP, we are using it again but miss the wireless connection greatly. We will replace the Epson soon with an HP.

Set up? A breeze. Ease of use? A snap. Output? Gorgeous. Overall Ranking: Pathetic. Why? Ink costs.Epson can produce some beautiful output. No one questions that. But, Epson is a HIGHLY profitable company because they design every way possible to suck ink. Run out of cyan, etc.? No printing allowed of any kind. And my ALL TIME PET PEEVE of Epson. IF YOU RUN LOW ON AN INK, it will NOT ALLOW you to print (for fear the results might not be good) and you are STUCK. Not to mention, I often print (on HP or Canon) a month or more after the LOW INK indicator comes on. Geesh! Let me decide, Epson!!!! When I want beauty in my print outs, I will change to full ink cartridges.Oh, wait... Epson also (I hope they changed this one!) had a feature that ONCE you place a cartridge in a printer, IF YOU TAKE IT OUT, you can't put it back in. So, shake the cartridges to see how muich ink it has, and you just will have to throw that one away. I know there exists work arounds... And I know that Epson lovers will tout those gorgeous prints... but for standard home use, I don't see how any home user could justify it. Just run a calculator on ink costs for 6 months, you will see. (Oh, a recent article in Consumer Reports finally did a report on Ink Costs of various inkjet printers... they vary from 1 cent a page to 10 cents a page.... guess where this Epson fell!? :(

This thing is a miracle, it's bad at everything. The print quality is terrible, it goes through ink faster than you'd think possible (seriously, I was checking for leaks), it's hard to set up, hard to load paper into, it scans poorly and constantly loses its connection to the computer. The only thing it didn't do was catch on fire. Seriously, CNET? I used to think all the major brands were more or less the same until I bought this thing. I just replaced it with a Canon Pixma with similar features and it's like jumping ahead 20 years into the future. I feel bad for the people who rated this thing highly, they've clearly been abused and had their perspective skewed. I want to do the environmentally responsible thing and recycle the Epson, but I have to admit I'm struggling with the desire to run it over with my car. Don't buy this printer unless you're trying to punish yourself for some past misdeed.

I would highly recommend this printer if you don't want to put the money out for a laser printer. It's very fast, when I bought this over the summer of 2010, it was the fastest inkjet at the time. It was $91 at the time, and definitely the best return to cost option. The quality is great, I've had maybe two instances where some black text had a very small (0.5mm) horizontal, pink line running across it; not very noticeable, but worth mentioning. Also, this may have resulted from the included ink cartridges, not entirely sure, but I haven't had this issue since replacing them. The installation of the ink cartridges and overall setup is very easy. I gave setup four stars since those less technically inclined might have to do some reading to set up the Wi-Fi. I'm not going to list and go through all of the features, but it has the typical all-in-one features and then some (the on-screen options and UI are nice). The noise is very reasonable, there's also a mode to reduce noise, especially in juxtaposition with other printers that I've used. This is definitely of higher quality than the Cannon MP all-in-one that I had previously.

I got this printer about a year ago because I usually had pretty good experiences with Epson and wanted to upgrade to a wireless. I worked fine for a while and I feel the print quality is still pretty good, but I have problems with the ink CONSTANTLY. If I don't use it for a week or more, it seems the ink heads always get clogged up and I have to run multiple cleanings (which seems to use a significant amount of ink). Today I replaced the black ink cartridge and then the yellow one just clogged up unexpectedly. I ran the head cleaning four times and by the time the yellow started working the red was out! If I figure the amount of money I spent in wasted ink and paper would have been more than enough to by a higher quality printer that wouldn't be so frustrating.

I would have to say the speed was superb. that is the only good thing about this printer. this is only when it works.Every time you change a cartridge, you'll have to do the head cleaning function at least twice if you are lucky.one all that cleaning is done, your ink is half way empty. At times, your ink will run out even when nothing has been printed due to excessive head cleaning you'll have to do until you could see something printed on a paper.I had to return this product several times to Epson for a replacement. Unfortunately, my warranty ran out and there was nothing they could do about it.I'm not tossing my printer out the window. DO NOT buy this printer waste of money, time, energy and ink while you try to figure out if it is the ink or the printer itself.

I bought this printer about a year ago and have had very little success with this pile of plastic junk. The first unit failed after about 3 months (It would jam on pretty much every print job) and after some effort, I managed to get a replacement from Epson. The second unit does not jam but consumes ink cartridges at a shocking rate.I just replaced the set of cartridges and hadn't gotten through more than 20 pages (black on white text with very little color graphics) when the printer refused to go any further and is now demanding a new set of cartridges. It turns out that Epson (like Canon) have placed a chip on the cartridges and even though there is still some ink left in the cartridge, the printer refuses to print unless a new cartridge is installed. This is a criminal marketing strategy - these companies sell their printers at a loss and make huge profits from replacement cartridges that contain tiny quantities of ink.It is about time that a re-cycling charge is levied against these enemies of the environment who create huge amounts of waste in their quest for financial profits. Are their any socially responsible, environmentally friendly printer manufacturers out there?

I got this printer because it was a cheap printer/scanner combination. Well, I don't scan all that often so I didn't notice that the image is extremely light toned when it scans. What I did notice, however, is how this printer goes through ink like no other. The cartridges are very tiny, and at 20 bucks a pop, it's very inefficient. Talk about loud too. I feel guilty printing late at night. When everything is quiet for a while, hearing this printer scares my roommates awake. Despite all this, it's livable. However the most recent flaw I discovered is its inability to print on hole punched paper! Talk about an epic fail, epson. How can your printer not support hole punched paper? We're in the 21st century here. I'm not asking for anything fancy. In fact, just to tease me, it will print on my hole punched paper when it is upside-down, but not right side up. It tells me there's a paper jam when i can clearly see it goes through the printer no problem. I will never buy an Epson printer or any of their products again. I don't think I can return it because I've had it for a while. No-where does it mention that it can't support hole punched paper (my paper has a right side up). I just discovered this the other day. What a disappointment and a hassle.

I've owned this printer for a little over a year, and I think I've replaced the ink cartridges 6 times. I almost never print. Epson Designed this printer almost exclusively to aid their ink sales. The ink cartridges in this printer (and in several other late models), have dual "Smart" chips integrated on the cartridge. The chip tells the printer when the cartridge is empty - or if it has ever been empty. If it has ever been empty - the printer will reject the cartridge forever. No second changes. If it tells the printer it is an empty cartridge - you're out of luck no matter how much ink is acually left in the cartridge.Buy a laser printer for home, or you'll be pillaged by Epson's "smart" chips too.

Out of the box, the first thing I realized was that every single component of the device was cheap, flimsy plastic. The paper feed tray relies only on loose plastic tabs that snap in; mine has worn out after 4 months and will not stay in place. The scanner's hinges are a joke, and the entire "lid" assembly jiggles and wobbles when opening. The tolerances are so loose on all of the moving components, it's ridiculous. What appeared to be classy looking faux-carbon fiber in the picture is just more of the same tacky shiny plastic when it gets out of the box.Connectivity wise, it's one of the worst experiences I've ever had with a printer, and I've dealt with a lot of bad printers. Don't even bother with the Wi-fi. It's configured in such a way that you basically have to completely re-established your connection with the network (and the computer your printing from) every time you want to print a document. Not every session. Literally every single time you want to print. In order to print off the USB, it forces you install tons of unnecessary Epson bloat-ware that can't be uninstalled without brick-ing the printer. It's just such a complete headache compared to any other plug-and-play printer I've used recently (Lexmark, HP, etc). And to top everything off: I cannot print a black and white document if the color cartridge is empty! Why?! I have a completely fresh, brand new black cartridge and need to print a basic, black and white Word document, but I cannot do it if the color cartidge is out! So I have to run out and spend $50 on the color ink the night before a paper is due just so I can print out my black and white document. This is the stupidest, most blatant rip-off I've come across in consumer electronics in a long time.Do not waste your money or time with this product.

I bought this all-in-one because my other printer is not a copy-capable printer and we need that capability. I did some research and finally decided on the Epson NX515 after reading several reviews. So far I have been very pleased with it. I have a couple of small gripes but nothing that cannot be overlooked. The NX515 is actually a relatively small printer, taking up a little less space than any of my previous printers. It is also lightweight and easy to move should there be a need.Setting up the NX515 is simple. There is a quick-start guide that explains the process of configuration and it makes the set-up almost foolproof. From the time I opened the box to the time I had a working printer that was producing output was less than 15 minutes, and there were no confusing or difficult steps in the process. The only negative about the setup is that Epson, like almost every other printer vendor, does NOT include a USB cable in the box. The cost of a USB cable is actually only a couple of dollars (they're a high-profit item) so including one would not break the bank. If you do no have a spare USB cable available and you wish to direct-connect this printer, be sure to pick one up before trying to set up.Once configured, the NX515 is a very capable printer. It has the fastest print speeds I have ever seen in an inkjet, printing faster in standard mode than I have seen most printers print in draft mode (for standard text - does not apply to photo printing). The quality does not suffer either and is excellent. I was pleased to see than this printer does not produce the banding I have seen in Epson printers' output in the past. The control panel for setting up copying is very easy to read and very easy to navigate. It is very simple to change copy parameters and the instructions in the panel are straightforward.I have not used the scanning capabilities of the NX515.One feature I wish was available, even if it required buying an attachment, is automatic duplex printing. My other printer handles duplex printing with ease and requires no intervention at all. The NX515 does duplex printing but it requires manual intervention. This is a minor inconvenience, not a deal-breaker.Epson has produced a very nice all-in-one in the NX515. The setup is simple and the print speeds are absolutely stunning. It is by no means a perfect device but it is an excellent product at an excellent price (approximately $110 at the moment). If you need a printer that can handle scanning and copying while producing beautiful prints, give this printer a close look.

I have gone through more ink cartridges with this printer, than I have for any other printer in the past. I am running out constantly to get more ink. The real frustrating part is when one of the color cartridges run low, you can't even print with just black until you replace the color one that is missing. It just won't let you print at all. The ease of set up and the price may seem worth it at first, but believe me, in the long run, you will be spending an arm and a leg for the ink. Look elsewhere for a printer.
