Coming to the product, since I already had an idea about this product, I chose this over the new v11. I got the product with 9 attachments. The product was fairly simple to set up and I performed the setup on my own. But, in case you find it a little confusing, please wait for Dyson India to set up an appointment as it is only a 2 day wait for the appointment. The v10 takes about 3.5 hours to charge completely. On a full charge, with non-motor heads, this thing can clean for about 45 minutes on low power suction. With motor-driven heads, on high power, this thing will run dry in 20 minutes. The battery can only be replaced by Dyson India. Once your installation is done, the engineer will register your product and your 2 year warranty period. Except for water damage, all other forms of malfunction are covered under this warranty.
This is definitely an expensive device. And if you are someone who likes to deep clean and keeps your house, your workplace, your car clean, then this device will make sense to you. Using it is an absolute pleasure and the cleaning results are better than any vacuum cleaner I have ever used. And I have used Panasonic and Eureka Forbes. This is cord-less, mobile, has attachments to reach tough spots, is easy to maintain.
Giving one less star as I observed a peculiar issue on mine - while the flap mechanism to empty the dust bag is straight forward, after the first couple of uses, the flap refused to close properly. That caused the whole transparent tunnel portion (around the suction motor) to misalign, which created a problem for the self locking mechanism of the attachments. The issue here is, the attachment mount, the dust bag and the main suction hole are all built around the same mount cylinder. One has to be bit careful not to put too much pressure, specially during floor wipes, so as not to misalign this cylinder alignment. Long story short - it needs a bit of a deft touch to empty the dust bag and put it back together.
Amazon offered a replacement, but refused to take a return saying they only accept returns for defective products even though they say "7day returnable". The dyson website allows 30 days return.
In terms of suction, with the right attachments it's pretty ok. The bins small and we had to empty it often.
It's quite heavy even without the attachments - we prefer using a normal vacuum to clean curtains.
Update: After four weeks and multiple calls, Dyson never got around to actually shipping the replacement part. (The part they originally told me was unavailable and would require them sending me a whole new unit.) They continued to blame the error on a computer glitch between Dyson and UPS and couldn't figure out how to create a new replacement part order in their system. This appeared to be a "run out the clock" game on the return window. I contacted Amazon again a few days before it expired to avoid being stuck with a broken unit and no support from Dyson and they offered to replace the unit this time based on the Dyson support situation. We'll see how this one goes as I will be watching both the brush head and canister for durability. Again, I'm probably foolish for replacing it based on the initial quality observations.
I'm a big Dyson fan having owned a ball and two hand vacs. The quality was great on all three and the battery life acceptable for a hand vac. Both 6 year old hand vacs are still going, one being the car model. I always wanted a stick vac but couldn't justify the price, so I was ecstatic (and shocked) when Amazon put this on sale for $3xx. Now I know why.
Unfortunately, I don't feel confident this vac was built to last. Before the first charge(!), I began to hear a loud rattling coming from the large powered brush head. I quickly turned it off and pulled the brush head off to inspect. Three plastic bits fell out onto the floor. It appears these parts were brush guides, so now the main head does not work. Huh? I used this for less than five minutes on carpet. How could I have broken it already?
I attempted to replace online with Amazon, however they only accept returns. I just couldn't give up on my dream vac just yet, so I called Dyson support. I registered my device, as I do with all my Dyson's, when I first got it so I was expecting a quick call. Nope. I had to redo the entire registration process over the phone as well. The individual part didn't seem to be available, which I found odd. I was told a "goodwill" replacement would be sent. I am hoping they inspect the part upon return so they can see what went wrong. Now we will see how long I am out a vacuum until the replacement arrives.
As for practicality and long term use, I'm not hopeful. I noticed a few things right away. The plastic is much thinner than on my other Dyson products. I scratched one piece simply by lightly brushing it against an edge of curved glass. The discharge canister is a very poor design. It requires a great deal of force to push open, which makes even less sense on a model with thinner plastic. Also, the canister must be disassembled from the wand to empty, which becomes annoying real quick. This process makes a dusty mess. Their is no way to avoid getting your hands dirty. (And there will always be dirt because this thing sucks up dust like nothing I have ever used.) Additionally, the close tab on the canister lid is VERY thin and flexes as the door is closed. I don't see how this will last from years of use and I doubt you can buy just the door. The plus however continues to be the Dyson's ability to suck up dust. I keep a clean house but this thing still manages to find it!
I'm probably making a mistake by keeping it given the canister issue alone. Maybe they will have a better replacement part by the time the warranty is up? Wishful thinking most likely though. My advice is return this while you can and look at the V8 model instead. There is a reason this vac dropped over $200 in price so quickly. I don't recall any other Dyson stick coming down in price so fast. It just doesn't seem like earlier Dyson product build quality.
Disappointed with Dyson and Amazon for delivering a used product without quality checks.
The battery life is insane. My house has five bedrooms, 2.5 baths. Mind you, only the bedrooms themselves have carpet, and the rest is hardwood -- since I got the motorhead with no fluffy brush, I still do the sweeping manually. I don't mind. But when I vacuum all five rooms, the battery doesn't even go down a blob (there are 3!). As a result I find myself leaving it off the charger instead of keeping it topped up (this preserves battery longevity, but it's quite complicated for an Amazon review. You can look this up if interested). I charge it maybe once every three laps around the house.
The attachments are very well designed and in the Motorhead, the three are all I need. Crevice tool, big fat wide surface thing with a brush, and the carpet one. I would like to be able to have the fluffy brush too, but that would be an extra $200 or so which I didn't deem worthwhile. My only complaint is that it's very easy to misalign the attachments when reinserting them into the dock; it often takes 2 tries.
The vacuum is not noisy at all. It makes a high pitched whine as opposed to a general roar as 'conventional' vacuums do, which some people find annoying. Myself, I don't mind it.
I find that I clean the filter a little more than the recommended once a month, as it collects quite a lot of dust. It seems that the cyclones that Dyson has patented only work well at very high flow rates -- meaning, you kinda have to use the max setting if you want the cyclones to work properly. I found Max setting not particularly useful, it didn't get the carpets any cleaner and it made a lot of heat. Also, my mechanical sympathy gets in the way (I just feel bad for the vacuum, even though I know it's designed for it! My heart hurts!). I also clean the inside of the bin with a damp microfiber towel each time I do the filter, just for aesthetic purposes (the dust does tend to cling to the bin and I like it looking clear and shiny!)
Now, onto the things I'm concerned with. My very first impression, immediately as soon as I started using it, was that it was not as powerful as a mains vacuum. I know, I know, I wasn't using Max mode. But even so, I have to gingerly vacuum around at 1 meter per second as per some international vacuuming standard that they're tested at. Any faster, and stuff starts to be missed. Whereas on my old Dirt Devil mains vacuum, I could throw that thing around literally as fast as I could and it would never leave anything behind, ever. It does take me longer to vacuum the house with the Dyson for this reason.
Secondly, I vacuumed once with the Dyson, and the next day, went over it again with a Shark Navigator as I had (accidentally) walked on the carpet with my shoes on (I was in a rush!). The Shark actually picked up quite a lot of dust. I'm not totally sure, but I think if the Shark is picking stuff up that the Dyson is leaving behind, then the Dyson is not a full replacement for the mains vacuum. It serves as a day-to-day quick mess cleaner-upper, but not a be-all end-all vacuum for the entire house. I will still keep my upright for using, say, once a month for a "deeper clean" if you will.
Furthermore, the Dyson, with the crevice tool, is quite long and unwieldy. I am talking specifically about vacuuming the car, like under the seats -- it's much easier to navigate tight quarters with a hose attached to an upright or a wet/dry shop vac, instead of a vacuum cleaner, bin, and attachment all in line like on the Dyson.
Overall, I am very happy with my purchase, but I don't think I will enthusiastically go recommending it to everyone I know. It's not a problem with this product itself, mind you; I believe this Dyson V10 is the best cordless vacuum on the market, hands down. It is really darn close to the upright vacuum, but it falls just short enough that I'm not ready to give up my upright yet. I have a problem with the cordless platform, not this product itself. I don't really like the 'range anxiety' with the battery; I'd rather be plugged in so I can vacuum for as long as my heart desires. I do like how light and nimble the thing is, and how easy it is to just go, clean, and put back -- no faffing about with cords -- but I never really found uprights to be particularly cumbersome, either. Maybe I'm just old fashioned, give me a few years and I'll warm up to it.

However if your need is daily cleaning and lot of dust in your area the high cost is worth it.
The product demo at home by their executive, Kamal, was very useful. He was on time for demo and explained the attachments and their uses patiently.
