I have to say that the time taken to look around paid off....I'm delighted.
Though this amp is ideal to be use as TV surround sound...I bought this amp to be used with HIFI separates not with a TV. Works perfectly.
It has various modes within the amp (I'm using NEO:X) which converts the stereo signal from Spotify into 5 channel audio which is simply AMAZING!
Too many things to rave about here....suffice to say...it is a great buy.
Well done Denon and Audessey!
It's not quite as configurable as the Onkyo, as that one allowed very granular control. However, without having to do much tweaking it sounds pretty much the same. I can't tell the difference.
I needed the dual output and zone2 capability, which is why I opted for this unit over the x2000. I am happy to say that it worked exactly as I hoped it would. I have a media room with a projector in one room, and an LCD with a sound bar in another room. This AVR allows you to passthrough HDMI to zone2 while decoding audio on the main. This can be different inputs. For example, my son can be playing an xbox game on the LCD on zone2 while I watch a movie on the blu-ray player in the main zone. My old Onkyo could not do this, because on that one both outputs had to mirror each other.
1. Put it near your TV
2. Hook up an HDMI cable from the X3000 to your TV and set the right HDMI input.
3. Turn them both on.
4. Watch the On Screen Setup Assistant appear on your TV. Do what it says.
Seriously, step-by-step on your TV with pictures. I never bother about the manual and I had it up and running in just over 30 minutes, easy.
This unit has seven HDMI inputs (with one on the front) and two HDMI outputs. Look on the back and you'll see two component video, two(!) sub-woofer, two optical audio, two coaxial audio, five analog audio inputs and three composite video inputs. You can route all this through two HDMI outputs (though I just use one).
The included remote is clean and easy to use. I just downloaded the Denon Remote App but so far it seems straight forward enough. The only down side I can point out is the lack of built-in wireless. It has an Ethernet port, but you need to buy the dongle to hook it up to your wireless network. I find that surprising considering it's not cheap.
At the end of the day it sounds great, it looks great, and I'm really enjoying it. Obviously it's not cheap, but you can spend a lot more. This unit is a good balance between high end features and price.
Great receiver, great pricing at the time, slow local UPS delivery that was sorted out by Amazon.
Quality - 4/5
Sound - 4/5
Delivery - 2/5
Amazon Customer Service - 5/5
Anyway, the sound brings a smile every time. Its crisp and sounds very clean in movies and music at high mid and low freqs.
One downside is that it won't play from bluetooth. I realize bluetooth isn't a great audio source anyway, but it'd be nice for those times I don't feel like running a cable to my phone (iPhone users don't have to worry about this, as it supports AirPlay).
Mainly too few inputs the analogue inputs do not show p on the screen so few inputs I am lacking inputs hooked p airplay no input for sonos, no input for Nakamichi cassette no phono input and while sound is so so it is always too bass heavy- as well no matter how I try getting the rca inputs just doesn't work well for example there is an Aux input and it will not show up on the screen display, when just starting up video a sometimes it takes forever to find the source, look I'm no expert and am mostly analogue I hope I can review again with better results but in the moment it needs more power and more inputs on the analogue side it took 3 days to get my CD player to play through unit,
At least get the x4000 or go somewhere else.
This system THUMPS. I feel as if I am in a theater.. I must mention that a Sub is a critical addition to the setup. The Klipsch 42 series provides excellent highs, voices sound crisp and as if you are in the studio itself. As far as the amp goes, there is no complaints. The Audessy EQ calibration is a must. Once ran, you will hear a night and day difference. I have still yet to play with the Airplay feature, but connecting to home network and running updates on the unit is super easy.
Lastly, after a few months with this setup - I am happy I spent what I did, and feel like I could have not gotten a better setup for the price.
But DENON, WHY did you take away the things I need?
There is no way to interact with the device for many functions without the remote... or the new smartphone features, not sure how limited that may be for setup and configuration though.
The switched AC outlet on the back is gone, WTF I need that for many things... It better come back or I will consider other options next time (sooner than you think).
The new features were enough for me to warrant a four star rating.
I shouldn't have too many issues for a while, I don't think I will lose my remote or anything and the switched AC, I can live without it for now...
I upgraded from an AVR-2310, and I'm really happy with the upgrade.
