I installed this on an old notebook that I have set up to dual boot with Windows XP and Ubuntu Linux 7.10. Ubuntu 7.10 recognized it right away and set it up automatically. I used the included software to set it up in XP.I'm using it with WPA encryption, but also tested with WEP and it worked fine with either.

The CD included with product would not install the program onto my laptop. I had to go to the D-link website on my desktop (it had internet), find the download program match for my specific product, transfer that program onto an information disk and put it on my laptop. I am NOT computer savvy and this was not an easy task for me. Other than all that, I am finally using the product on my laptop and it is performing well so far.

This card worked OK for about a week, then I started receiving the dreaded BSOD error nearly every time I used it on my Sony Vaio. I tried troubleshooting the problem for hours, even going so far as to reinstall Windows, but nothing fixed it. It just seemed to happen randomly, with no rhyme or reason. After finding out that others had the same issue with different hardware, I concluded that the card was simply a piece of junk. Stay away from this product unless you want to deal with the hidden horrors of D-Link's atrocious drivers.

From looking at the D-Link website and talking to five tech support staff, it appears that there are countless versions of this card, each with different driver software. The one I got came with a CD with the wrong drivers. With tech support, I finally found the 8 mb driver file I was supposed to download. However, they did not provide any instructions on how to install the new driver. The normal "automatic" approach did not work. And their instructions did not match the screens I was getting on Windows XP SP 2.So I called back again. And again. And again.Despite being given a case file, each time I was asked the same questions, including what, exactly, is wrong. And each time I was told to do the same thing: Install from the CD. Reboot. Remove the program. Reboot. Install from the new driver. Reboot. Remove the program. Talk to a senior tech support person.Install from CD. Reboot. etc.It would have been easier to send the card with the right files on the CD. A clearly designed website would be second best. And tech support that knows what they're doing and speaks intelligble English would be a nice last resort.I spent three hours calling D-Link technical support and speaking to five people, and they could not tell me how to install the software for this card!I am not alone in this experience; see cnet's web site user reviews of the DWL-G650.Another reviewer reports that this software damaged his operating system. I believe he is right. It appears to have damaged my screen font for Windows message boxes. I have been unable to repair it. The DWL-G650 is bad news.I give them two stars cause they actually have tech support, though in this case it was utterly worthless.Back it goes.

Had this since early Oct 2006 and really like this adapter and because it is linked with a D-Link Extreme G wireless router at home, I get the high speed throughput that was missing with my old 802.11b card. Have used it on the road in at least 4 different locations and it picks up the wireless service at that location with no problems.Only problem I had was with initial setup (and that may be something in my settings as opposed to the card). Followed D-Links instructions and the system wouldn't connect in my home. (card in computer before powering up) Found that I have to wait until the computer is booted before I insert the card. As long as I do that, the system recognizes the card and makes the connection in very short order. Haven't timed it but it is probably around 15 seconds to full connection. On the road it is a little longer but nothing significant. If you need a plug in wireless card adapter, this one seems like a good choice based on the performance and very reasonable price.

My brother has the Netgear WG511T Super G 108 PC Card for his notebook and it works great. So after I thought my Dell notebook internal wireless chip died, I decided to order a notebook adapter for it. Instead of getting another Netgear I decided to go with the D-Link DWL-G650 Cardbus Adapter 108Mbps - my first experience with a D-Link product. The G650 works great - plugged the card into the adapter slot, turned on the notebook, 5-10 minutes configurations and WOLA I got on the internet. The card works flawlessly without any signal dropped or any compatibility problem with my Westell 327W router. I notice the wireless signal is stronger and the connection is faster than the notebook internal wireless adapter or the WUSB12 Linksy adapter which I used prior to obtaining the G650. The G650 supports WEP, WPA, WPA-PSK security encryption and comes with an intuitive and easy to use configuration utility.

My setup:- Dell Latitude PP01L (Intel chip)- Win XP Pro- D-Link DI-624 Wireless Router (with two walls inbetween the laptop and the antenna)- Enabled the WEP featureI unplugged the old wireless card and simply plugged this in. Windows found the new card and did its Plug-n-Play thing. Not only was I was able to get on the Internet immediately, but the card picked up two other signals in the neighborhood that I couldn't 'see' with my 11MB/sec Cisco Aironet card. This I sort of expected, but was still a bit surprised being that my closest neighbor is beyond the range of most wireless routers. The CD installed just fine, but when I went to the D-Link site to check for an updated driver it said I was up-to-date. I ran Windows Update and it claimed I had an updated driver available for my new D-Link card. I've never had a problem with D-Link's website (or customer service, while we're on the subject), so I was a bit taken aback that Microsoft was ahead of D-Link's site.Either way... install the card and get onto the internet, then have Windows Update check for possible updates.Be sure to enable the encryption feature. If you are running a small network of computers where you are sharing folders then you want to be sure that your neighbors can't go snooping through your stuff. Or worse, lift the signal, and ultimately your personal information.I've had no problems with my current set-up. I HIGHLY recommend this card to bring your laptop/desktop up-to-date.

I've had this network card for over a year and I've never had any problems with it. I connect to a DLink DI-625 router and everything has been great. I've never had any dropped connections due to the card or software. I usually work about 50 feet from my router in another room. I always had connection problems with my previous Belkin card. The only reason that I don't give it 5 stars is that my max connection speed is 54mbps.

First, you must know that D-Link has the annoying and unprofessional habit of releasing unfinished, not so ready hardware to market. It seems that their engineering team is under pressure from marketing (typical) to deliver products before they are completely tested and ready. There are several revisions (internal designs) of this and other D-Link products. As of this writing (April 2004), the DWL-G650 has 7 of them, A1, B1, B2, B3, B4, C1, and C2 each representing a correction to a "Oops" of some sort! The DWL-G520 has 2, A and B, while the DI-624 router has 3, A, B, and C. The latest revision is what you should look for, it is usually on the sticker on the back of the box - just below the serial number.OK, so I had the DI-614+ router, DWL-650+ PC Card, and DWL-520+ PCI card, and they worked great. I just needed the higher speed to stream music and video from my server upstairs, and wanted to use the more secure WPA protocol (not yet supported on the DWL-520+ *stupid D-Link*), so I upgraded to the DI-624 router (rev. C), DWL-G650 PC Card (rev. B4), and DWL-G520 PCI Card (rev. B). I upgraded the firmware on the router right away to 2.42 and the driver for the G650 to 2.48. The router seemed to work fine, but the card was not seeing it. My older 802.11B card (DWL-650+) was able to see and connect to the new router, but not the new card. I tried many things to no avail. I then installed the older driver 2.42 and the card started seeing the router but had trouble keeping the connection..I played with many settings and nothing helped. I tried two other laptops (different brands) and experienced the same symptoms. Finally, I went to the a store and purchased another DWL-G650 and made sure it was the newer rev. C2 (the latest). Guess what, it worked right away and kept the connection solid. I tried FTP between the server (wired to the router) and the wireless laptop and got a transfer throughput of about 2400KBytes/sec... This is while using WPA-PSK with Super G enabled and using a short preamble. The same results were obtained with the PCI version of the card (DWL-G520).I returned the bad PC Card (rev. B4) back to the store and kept the new one! So, just make sure that you have the latest version of the hardware. One more thing, if you compare the signal quality/strength between DWL-650+ and DWL-G650 or between DWL-520+ and DWL-G520 you'll find that the new cards have a much lower number (worst). For example, my old 650+ used to get around 70% quality compared to 36% for the G650 at the same exact spot/direction. The difference is identical when comparing the 520+ to the G520. I have not experienced any performance issues though, the TxRate is typically at 72Mbps (not 108Mbps)! I think the new AirPlus XtremeG utility calculates the quality number differently and hence the difference, and future driver updates may further enhance the signal measurement.D-Link's release of faulty hardware is wrong and must be stopped. The problem is that their competition are not much better. So go for what works, and buy from a place that has a good return policy. Someday another vendor will make better products and offer better support, and I will abandon D-Link :)

This D-Link wireless 802.11g wireless AirPlusXtremeG adapter is amazing. The first amazing thing, is that it seems to lose your connection all the time. This seems to be because of some problem D-link has with "Authentication". If you want yours to work, turn off authentication. Once you have it running reliably, it is amazingly fast. I run on a cable modem and get about 1.1 megabytes per second on a wired connection normally, and yet I have exceeded that with my AirPlusXtremeG (about 1.15). My point is that it works like a wired connection without the hassle of wires, but with the added hassle of needing to set it up EXACTLY right. This doesn's seem to be a problem if you don't use security, but with security, be prepared to visit at least one forum for tips on set-up. I recommend [...]. They have many people who are experienced with this adapter and the routers that are used with it.

Be aware that this Cardbus Adapter, though sold as for the PowerBook with Mac OSX, works ONLY with the Titanium PowerBook models and with Mac OS 10.3 ONLY. If you upgrade to Tiger, your out of luck... No mention from D-Link IF or when they may upgrade the software drivers. Additionally, to use this Adaptor, one has to open the System Preferences to access a rather clumsy control panel each time. There is no quick access through the menu bar... As for range, it is actually less than the Airport Card on the Titanium PowerBooks, which is not very good. If you have an older PowerBook, I would recommend finding and buying an original 802.11b AirPort card. It will cost you more but in the long run, you will be much happier.

Ok first of all if you ever want to believe any reviews, believe mine because I will tell it how it is and not in a cheesy goody two shoes way. I a tech crazy lover and this D-link dissapointed me. 1.) The up to 108mbps is FIRMWARE as you will see in small print. Plan on calling their support to get the firmware downloaded because it is as easy as just downloading it and unzipping the file. 2.) IT HAS NO SOFTWARE!!! That is like saying you don't need a recovery disc for a computer. You know how many times technology crashes and having a disc rather than THE NET is a lot better. I was suprised to learn that the way to set it up was through the internet considering the fact that when you hook the device up it doesn't know that you hooked DSL or Cable to it. Guess what, I was right. It took me a total of 4 days wasting my time and weekends just getting it "up and running." The interface is confusing, the CD is for the manual you already have that comes with it (their stupid "quick installation guide that isn't quick), and you have to call D-link and spend hours floating around their phone lines till you get a level 95 technician. I also got the card which was another issue. When you get the 54mbps, supposedly you can get the firmware and get it up to 108, but beware, the card can't do the same. Since it can't do the same, the two hardware's can't work with each other making this an endless battle. D-link has ok support but you will spend forever trying to get it up and running. Plus I don't think you can transfer files and truly network. I think you can only do wireless DSL and Cable which is stupid as well. Here is the best alternative I sware. *************Microsoft************Yeah I was skeptical too. I haven't been the biggest Microsoft fan, but I will say that they got my vote. After this purchase I have a new respect for them. I am talking about the Microsoft BaseStation MN-700. We are talking about $same price$ and **10 min. setup**. 10 minutes is all it takes to set up the laptops and computer. For those of you who have a built in wirless card, it will work with the Microsoft. It had many problems with the D-link. D-link would work for 30 seconds, then the net shut off. Then again, and again, etc. Plus only one laptop was allowed on at a time with D-link. I call that useless. The basestation also allows you to print directly from a laptop to a printer wireless and transfer files from PC to PC. It comes with software and easy easy easy installation. It is fast. I am using it to write this review on my laptop. Go Microsoft. Don't waste your time on D-link, there are better things to do. I heard Linksys, Netgear, and Belkin had problems. Netgear just has terrible support from what my next door neighbor told me. If you do go with D-link against my review, then don't upgrade the firmware. Good luck :)

I just boot up my notebook and before I open a web browser I am connected to my home network. It's great!I don't even remember installing this thing, so I guess it was pretty uneventful. But I do know it's easy to configure and has an easy to understand software interface when you do actually have to change the WPA or WEP key. Very nice.Overall I'd have to say this is a 5 out of 5 stars. I'm not sure I could ask much more from an adapter card, unless of course it could someway be built into my notebook. :)

I've heard of other people's problems with wireless cards that seem to drop the signal every now and then, or suck the battery life out of a laptop, or some other random problem.I have to say that this wireless adapter card has given me any problems since the day I bought it. I just plug this card in when I want to go wireless and the laptop recognizes the card and goes straight to looking for a familiar wireless access point and then connects almost instantly. I love it. If you don't have built in wireless and want your laptop to go wireless, then I suggest you pick up one of these wireless adapters from D-Link. Of course if your Wi-Fi is built in, then go ahead and use it, but if you are like me and you want more range, stick with an external card. I get better range this way.

Installation was painless, the everyday use is painless, the wireless range is good, the speeds are nice, and the actual physical construction is even quite solid.I feel that this is a card anyone would be happy with. Unless of course it didn't work in some weird operating system or something. Either way it works perfect for me so I have to give it 5 stars.

I purchased this card with a D-Link DI-624 router/WAP; as a pair, they perform flawlessly, and offer the advertised performance, which is on-par with wired Ethernet. Compatibility of this card with other access points was good in my testing. It connected just fine to all the WAPs I normally use (all of which are B protocol), and offered the expected performance. The only complaint I have is that I attempted to install the card using the latest drivers from D-Link, downloaded from their web site. Despite carefully matching the hardware revision of my card with the offered download, my attempts to use the card failed. The drivers installed fine, but it would not "sniff" any wireless networks (there were two within range), including one a few feet away. After uninstalling the downloaded drivers, and using the earlier version supplied on CD with the card, it fired-up just fine, and operated perfectly. Unfortunately, this is something I've encountered before with D-Link products, both with device drivers (as for this card) and with firmware updates for various D-Link products I've owned. It's not always the best advice to stay fully current on updates, as they occasionally introduce anomalies. If you're technically inclined, this is a minor annoyance that can be dealt with using a combination of patience and judicious back-ups. Average users may not have as much tolerance for this as I do. With the installation stabilized, I find myself quite satisfied with the DWL-G650, and definitely recommend it -- though less technical users should stick to the drivers on the packaged CD.

Well this little wireless adapter card has helped me break the chains of bulky old restricting wires. This D-Link adapter was easy to install and has great wireless range and performance speeds. I never feel lagged out, or slow because of my wireless adapter. I can connect to virtually any hotspot I've come across, and I'd recommend this to others. This adapter goes great with a DI-624 (wireless router from D-Link). The speeds, the range, the compatibility, it all works out.

I returned the product the day I bought it.I installed the product on my rock solid win2000 machine.I did hook into my existing wifi-network, my machine crashed 3 times and over what must have been system resource conflicts.I couldn't keep the wireless card in the machine and play a MP3 at the same time....As soon as I popped the Nic out the system was back to normal...

The card worked really well except for one little thing. There is no way to enbale super G mode (you need it to connect at 108mbps). Without the most I could connect at was 54mbps. The quick install guide and the manual said it's available, but it wasn't. Tech support was able to reproduce my problem, and tried many, many things. Even though they were very helpful, they coudln't fix it.My guess is that it's going to take a firmware upgrade to enable Super G. If you can wait for that, then you will be happy. I returned mine, and bout a Linksys WPC54GX.

After seeing good reviews at Amazon I purchased both the D-Link DI-624 router and the DWL-G650 PC Card. I upgraded the router firmware to 2.28 right away, and upgraded the G650 driver to 2.46 to get 108 Mpbs and WPA-PSK. The router seems to be OK, but the G650 gives me nothing but problems. I found that if my PC suspended, when it resumed the WPA pass phrase would be lost and I had to reenter it. Sometimes, I couldn't get connected to the net even though the D-Link utility showed I was associated, and ipconfig /renew did not get me a DHCP address. I've rebooted numerous times. I've installed the newer 2.48 driver fix which caused me not to have wireless connectivity at all, so I dropped back down to 2.46. I had to give up on WPA-PSK and use WEP 128, and the only reason I bought this combination was to get WPA support. I spent hours and hours tinkering with this (in fact, days and days!) and I wish I purchased a different brand combination of router/card (even though the DI-624 seems OK, I'd prefer a single-vendor wireless solution). After having the above problems with my IBM Thinkpad, I'm trying a second G650 in my Dell Latitude C640 and I'm having similar problems. Today, however, after having removed the G650 for a day and plugged it in again, I can't get the PC to boot all the way. Removing the card lets it boot. If I try to insert the card after boot completes, the system hangs completely. I've removed and reinstalled the G650 drivers in an attempt to get a workable Dell. No luck. The one good thing I can say is that when the G650 is working, it gives me great coverage. I've been able to roam anywhere in my two-story 4-bedroom home and stay connected to the net. In toto, though, I wish I stayed with Linksys, my previous wired router vendor.

I purchased a D-Link G650 due to the excellent reviews it has gotten. Even though I have a Linksys wireless router, the D-Link seemed to be the best laptop card available. Sure enough, it is fast and has a strong signal anywhere in the house. Although the card paperwork states that it needs a minimum 300mhz processor, my laptop is a P233 and it works just fine. This card is fast and easy to setup. It is better than I hoped!

I had no problems installing the drivers for this card when I bought it. Excellent signal strength, fast speeds. It decided to stop working about 6 weeks later. I have tried getting help from D-Link support and it has been no help. I have been unable to reconnect for 3 weeks now, and D-Link refuses to accept that it might be a problem with their product. My first contact with tech support was rude and patronizing. The second contact directed me to download a "new" driver from their website--a driver which was older than the version that came with the card! The third, fourth, and fifth contacts were no help either. I've given up hope. Do not buy this card unless you have a lot of time to fix their bugs.(I'm running Windows Me with a Toshiba PXC1100U cable modem and the D-Link DI-624 wireless router. My roommate has no problem connecting the router with his XP & Centrino-running laptop)UPDATE: I finally got through to someone at D-Link that was helpful. An hour later on the phone, he was finally able to get it working. They need to work on their self-install guide to make it easier for non-techies like me to get their networks up and runnning!
