I looked around for a replacement for an old Bay Networks 24-Port 10/100 switch so I could have GB capability and a quieter switch. Found this D-Link switch and read several of the reviews. The unit I bought has worked flawlessly for about a month now. Nice and quiet and GB speed all the way from the cable modem to my family computer in the back of the house. I'd buy another one if I needed it.

I had multiple switches linked together as my network grew and I wanted to consolidate into a single device. After doing some research, then a little shopping this bubbled up as the best deal around. I have had good link with DLink products in the past, so had no reservations about ordering this product. I was not disappointed! It's simple to install and performs great! A review I ran across of what must have been an earlier version cited a noisy fan as a major drawback, but this unit has no fan and runs very cool. When the times comes that I need more ports, I'll buy another one without hesitation.

After going over numerous reviews for several brand 24-port switches, I decided this switch would be my best solution for my home network. Bought this switch for our new home being built. Mounted into a closet along with all the other network devices. I love the fact that this switch has no fans. Seems through other reveiws the previous model had fans which were both loud and short lived. I was a bit concerned about the fanless, heat issue. Now that I've had the switch running for about 2 months, the switch does not even get warm. Presently, I have about 17 drops connected into this switch.I love the fact that it provides gigabit service on all the ports, not just a few as other brands offer. I am very satisfied with my purchase and have no regrets not going with another brand. The price was very appealing, delivery was fast.Great switch.

I bought this to replace an older Dell gigabit switch, which has been making increasingly annoying whiny fan noises for years. To my delight, this new switch is completely silent (there is no fan) and runs cool even with a lot of network traffic and most of the ports active. The installation procedure was: (1) plug it in, (2) it works. If you are doing space planning, this is actually smaller than one rack unit wide, but has removable rack-width extensions on the sides so you can easily mount it on a standard equipment rack if you want to. Best of all, this unit is about half the price of competing name brand products. What's not to love?

Well, I specifically bought this model because they were advertising green and power saving. Well, i had a cheapo $40 24 port switch. It took 6 watts to run. I unplugged the old one, plugged in this green switch, and it takes 8 watts. I thought it was comical. Granted, the new switch was 100mbit and the old one was 10mbit, but, I was still expecting it to be the same or better. Besides, only about 4 ports of the ones used are running at 100mbits.It seems to work just fine. I have no issues there. But, I will warn you to think twice if you think your gonna save any measurable true GREEN SAVINGS.

Our family/home network was growing with computers, laptops, televisions, printers, etc. to the point that our cascaded 8-port 10/100 switches were full. This 24-port switch gave us a GigE backbone that interfaced seamlessly with our 4-port DSL modem/router. Greatly simplified everything in the network closet and provided spare ports for growth. This was exactly what we were looking for. One bit of advice: after turning it on, give it about 10 minutes for the network to rebuild its table.

All of my networking equipment is D-Link because I've never once had a single piece fail on me, so buying this was a no-brainer. It works great, and I like the fact that it powers down ports that are not in use. Great idea!

I bought these unmanaged switches to replace our outdated managed 3Com switches. They were easy to install and work great. Connecting them together was even easier. You don't need a cross connect cable.

It's a switch. It works. What more can I say? Just plug it in and your running. I must say it's nice (for me anyway) to have 24 ports instead of a daisy chain of 8 port switches sitting on my workbench, and the price isn't terrible.

There are other low cost switches, such as the Netgear. What sets this one apart is that it does not have or need a fan. No fan means no noise and it can be kept in the den or a bedroom. The unit does not get hot even when several computers are busy downloading and pulling up data off a NAS. The rackmount feature is a nice bonus for such a low cost unit. I have had no problem with it since buying it 6 months ago.

I'm not sure why but this switch is much faster than the 24 port Netgear gigabit switch that it replaced. It is being used in a small business with 21 devices attached. Employees are asking me if I did "anything new to the computers" because everything is much faster. The other bonuses are it runs much cooler and is dead quite.

The D-Link 24 Port Rackmountable Switch is Quiet, Dead quiet. You don't even know it's on. I use it in my Sound Mixing Theater where any noise is unacceptable. It was easy to hook up and works so well that I bought another. This new one it to replace a very loud Netgear unit that is located in my machine room.It has worked very well for the last 5 years but is as loud as a hairdryer.I am very impressed with this D-Link Gigabit Switch!

I've outgrown my SMC Barricade router and decided to extend my network with a 16 port gigabit switch. I was originally going to go with the Linksys switch, but the reviews were universally bad and reported failure rates very high. I wanted to take the time to set this up and forget it, and while I've only been in production with it for less than 24 hours, it is working well and set up easily. I think the documentation is pretty clear, but if you're not technical, you'll have a bit of trouble figuring out some of the advanced features.One feature I liked is that the ports are auto-detecting regarding whether a cable is a crossover or straight through, just like a more expensive switch. You can't manage this switch by forcing the the ports into a configured state (auto detect vs. or manually configured), but that would have been overkill for me.My setup is an Apple Time Capsule (version 1) as my router and wireless. I'm using a straight-through cable to connect the D-Link switch to the Time Capsule, both of which are gigabit.If this is the type of setup you're thinking of installing, this D-Link switch appears to be the perfect fit. I can only hope the reliability is better than the Linksys, but according to all the user reviews I've read during my research, this is the preferable unit.Hope this helps!NOTE: I'm revising this review after using the switch for several months now. Absolutely no problems, even though I've made changes to my network. The only thing I'd add to my original review is that the fan on the switch is a bit noisy. If you want this to be located in your office, be aware that the fan is always on and is audible. Other than that observation, I would still recommend this switch.

I am using this switch in a small commercial setting with about 15 connected devices. This unit replaces our older D-Link 10/100 switch, which is still working after 6+ years. Absolutely no problems with the setup or use of the new switch - it runs very cool; the LED link lights and corresponding ports are easy to identify. Immediately noticed the increase in local network speed, as the connected equipment also supports Gigabit Ethernet. Highly recommend if you don't need a managed switch. I will point out that Amazon's photo for this unit is incorrect - the photo shown is that of an older unit. What ships is the DGS-1024D D-link "green" unit, which has a silver face, NOT charcoal color as pictured. Correct product is on D-Link's website here: [...]

I have a few larger switches in my office network. Prior to this unit, I had a Dell powerconnect 2516 that I think was often overheating and slowed way down during periods of heavy use or quit working for a while all together. I replaced it with this unit that seems way cooler to the touch and has had no problems with our network load at all. I would certainly recommend this unit.I fairness to dell, I bought their gigabit switch around 2006 closer to when gigabit was new. I would imagine the ic's inside have been improved over the years to run cooler and more efficiently. My theory about older network switches over heating is correct I believe because I took the dell, cut a hole in it, installed a fan on the hole, and it too seems to work reliably now.

I purchased two of these items. It was a month before we were able to install the second one. When we opened the box, there was a rattle within the switch. The next day I went on Amazon.com to ask for an RMA. While on line I was able to select the item from my purchases. Immediately they e-mailed me with an RMA. PLUS the next day they shipped me (post paid) a new replacement switch (before I had time to return the defective one).Needless to say I've proceeded to check Amazon for anything that we are purchasing. And have already purchased two additional items. In all my years, I've never been so trusted to return the item before it was replaced. Thanks so much for being there when we needed you allNorman P. Switch is up and running; so far so good. Just plug it in and go, no brainer. Great price for a 24 port gigabit switch for home or small office. Besides the price I went with this switch because of its power saving features. Not sure how I'm going to quantify its effectiveness in that area though. D-Link is known to make a decent product so I feel comfortable reccommending this switch.

This Gig-E switch just works. It was a breeze to plug in and swing my cables over to. The extra speed of gigabit is nice. All my computers at home are gigabit capable so everyone in my family noticed the difference coming from a 100MB previously.I was worried a little about noise since the switch has a fan that is always on. My switch is in a closet and I can hear it at all. It does make some noise however, not much but I wouldn't want it in my bedroom.~e

When my home network got too big, I decided to wall mount a Cat6 patch panel and 1gb router (see my other reviews).This has been working without problems since I installed it in my home network September 2008. After plugging everything in (I don't even know what's on the included CD), I was pleasantly surprised to see that two of our machines (laptops) had 1gb networking.There are however two things to be aware of:1) If you wall mount the router like I did, there is not enough clearance behind the unit for the supplied power cable (a normal straight one). Get the slimmest right angle power cable you can find. I needed even a bit more clearance which I achieved by shimming the router away from the face of my 4U wall mount with a few small washers. While not egregious, this was annoying. This could have been easily avoided by the manufacturer, if they had supplied a right angle power cable with the proper clearance.2) The fan is noisier than any PC or digital device I have in my house. This doesn't matter to me since it is in my basement, but if for some reason it was in habitated space, it would definitely bother me.So besides the initial clearance problem, I have no qualms.7/28/10 Update - Product still performs well.

I had a couple different switches daisy chained together when half my network stopped working. Turned out one of my switches died. I was looking at a replacement, when I decided to buy one with a fan and more ports.This looked like it would work and would give me a little room to grow. I was up and running in minutes after it arrived. Has performed without a hiccup since.I'd like to say it performs above my expectations, but since my expectations were high, lets just say it works like I wanted and needed it to.

I didn't even bother to test the performance of this switch. I simply plugged it in and found that the fan made it the loudest device in my entire office. I returned it immediately. There are plenty of fan-less switches to choose from.

There isn't much to say since in and of itself this is a pretty simplistic device with a simplistic function. It mounted well and is built well. I was glad to get the 24 ports and use one unit as opposed to the three we had. I really thought the price was great compared to other products like it in its range as well.

AT FIRST LOOK, I THOUGHT THAT I COULD PAY A LOWER PRICE FOR THE SAME TYPE OF SWITCH, BUT I AM HAPPY THAT I CHOSE IT. IT WAS VERY EASY TO SET UP AND WILL ADJUST TO ANY SPEED CARD THAT YOU HAVE ON THE NETWORK. IT IS COMPACT AND ATTRACTIVE. I'M HOPING THAT IT IS ALSO DURABLE. SO FAR, NO PROBLEMS WHATSOEVER. VERY SATISFIED!

I bought this to replace a Netgear gigabit router which had a few dead ports after several years. No install issues, easy to see diagnostic lights for each port, since positioned aware from the wire ports. Self cooling with an internal fan -- fairly quiet but best placed in your wiring closet, for noise and also large power transformer. Very durable metal case. It delivers gigabit bandwidth as advertised. I have it paired with a wireless D-link router without compatibility issues. Recommended.

I'm not sure how much money one can save with a 'green switch'. That being said, this router works flawlessly and gets gigabit speed. Comparing to other switches that I looked at, this one seems to offer a lot for the money.

This switch does exactly what it should do, and it's very quiet. I bought this to replace a LinkSys SR2024C that lost half of its ports after the first 12 months (apparently this is a common problem with this model). I have no complaints about the D-Link DGS-1024D, and would recommend it to anyone looking for a non-managed gigabit switch.

I had to replace a Linksys that went south after only 4 months of service. Linksys wanted 5-7 days to replace the switch with no urgency to get my network back up unless I paid a hefty price for overnight shipping and then it would be at my office two days. I ordered the D-Link from Amazon, had my network back up the next morning with Amazon's super fast shipping.The D-Link has been working perfectly and seems to run a little cooler and quieter then the Linksys.

I have had this gigabit switch for around 3 weeks now. It works as desired and setup is, well, trivial. Just remember that this switch is UNMANAGED, so no VLAN's or anything like it.I was also afraid it would be noisy because of its fan, but it turned out to be very quiet as well. I strongly recommend this product.By the way, this switch came to replace an old D-Link 10/100 hub that worked almost non-stop for 7 years! I have no doubt of D-Link's quality, at least so far.Finally, I must say that so far I have no complaints on this product, not even the slightest.

Works great no issues. A small amout of sound from the fan. I have been using this for the past 10 months and have no complaints, it has worked without any issues at all. I would definately recommend it!
