I usually wait to write a review until I've used a product more extensively than I've used the Soundblaster X-Fi Go! Pro, but I'm so ecstatic at how it solved my problem that I'm writing a review after only six hours of ownership. I'll update the review at a future date if anything changes. The reason I bought it was the extreme problem was having using voice in Second Life. I have three computers with onboard Realtek audio and four NVIDIA graphics cards that also have Realtek audio. I was trying to film a voice interview in Second Life but couldn't get usable audio consistently. Sometimes Second Life voice worked fine, sometimes it didn't work at all, and most of the time there were too many sound distortions to record the interview. It was extremely frustrating. Every time I thought I had solved the problem, the next time I tried voice in Second Life, I would have problems again. I tried a variety of fixes, including disabling some sound drivers and changing my motherboard audio configuration in BIOS, but nothing worked.Initially I tried an ASUS Xonar DG PCI card in hopes of bypassing the Realtek audio. It probably would have solved the problem, but the unit I received had a defective microphone input, so I returned it. I couldn't wait for a replacement to be shipped, so I made an emergency trip to a brick and mortar Best Buy where I bought the Soundblaster X-Fi Go! Pro. So far it's solved the problem entirely. I've tried it four separate times this afternoon, and it's worked perfectly every time. Now I can go ahead with the interview, a tremendous relief.I haven't yet checked music quality. My musical needs aren't demanding and I'm sure it will be OK, but if it's either better or worse than I expect, I'll update this review. My only complaint: I installed it to my Windows 7 D: drive, but Creative didn't make it as easy as many other software makers do. I've knocked off one star for that. If you're like most people and install software to the C: drive, you won't have a problem. If you do install to a drive other than C:, you'll have to create the folders manually outside of the installer, which is a nuisance but for me not a show stopper. One advantage of the USB Sound Blaster over the PCI card I originally ordered is that I can use the USB card on any of my computers. Two of the three computers I use for Second Life don't have an available PCI slot (thanks to fat video cards!), but I can use the Soundblaster on them too. I was initially skeptical about USB sound cards, but so far this Sound Blaster has made be a believer.I love the fact that Amazon makes it so easy to return products that aren't satisfactory. If I didn't need audio immediately, I would have ordered the new card through Amazon, but this is one time when even Amazon's very fast Prime shipping wouldn't be fast enough.

I got this sound card for my Dell Laptop which is used for College. If you are running Windows 8, I recommend that you skip the CD installation and instead download the Windows 8 Compatibility driver software from the Creative website. This software contains everything on the Install CD as well as being compatible with Windows 8.[The Creative Software can be glitchy at times as the speaker configuration will auto switch from 2.1 speakers to headphones even when the 2.1 speakers are the only device plugged into the Sound Card. However, in the Sound Card's, volume Control Panel, the driver shows that the 2.1 Speakers are selected. This may just be a visual glitch and not performance related.]My laptop has a low quality on-board sound card that does not make use of bass and when watching movies, there is no equalizer in place. As such I purchased the X-fi Go! Pro, this came with the extra sound options. My speakers are the old Creative Inspire T-3000, 2.1 system (possibly a 10 year old speaker system). I was able to plug these into the USB card and the software made full use of the bass, etc.I live in the college dorms and now every time the building gets together, they come to me as I seem to be the only person with an external sound card. Everyone uses laptops here and the on-board sound just does not cut it. We went from watching movies that make use of heavy bass/loud sounds with an on-board card that does not transmit any of those qualities through speakers, to the USB sound card that transmits all the qualities. This is not the first Creative sound card that I have purchased, I own two other's a Creative Sound blaster for the desktop and the Sound blaster Audigy SE for the desktop. Then the Speakers are the Inspire T-3000 2.1I gave the rating 4 out of 5 stars, the removed star is based on the company's (Creative Labs) product support is somewhat poor, I had to use Google to find out what the definitions for some of the options in the Software Entertainment Console meant.

I bought the X-Fi Go! Pro out of necessity. I have a Sager NP9150 laptop which has a barely amplified Realtek chip. The chip itself can produce great sound, but because it was poorly implemented in the laptop, it sounds like crap with stereo headphones. My specific model headphones are the Sennheiser HD 201s, which have a 24 ohm impedance. After plugging in the X-Fi Go! Pro, the stored driver automatically installed within Windows 7 and I could get sound through my headphones right away. I then used the included CD to find and install the official Creative driver but I did not install the Creative/THX software, as it isn't needed for normal listening.Music sounds much better with this device compared to my laptop. The bass is much fuller, the sound stage is greater, the sound quality is better, and the volume output is much greater as well. The reason I mentioned the impedance of my headphones earlier is because of one problem with the X-Fi that might affect some buyers. The X-Fi Go! Pro has a 7 ohm output impedance, higher than it should be. The ideal level for any music player or DAC would be 0 ohm output impedance, but usually that would not be implemented whether because of a production budget or for stability purposes. Because of this one small handicap, certain low impedance headphones (below 56 ohms in this case), like ear buds, *may* have sound quality and/or frequency response issues with the device. I personally have no issues with neither my 16 ohm Sennheiser CX 300-IIs nor my 24 ohm Sennheiser HD 201 headphones. The frequency response is beautiful in both cases. If you have headphones in the 50 to 150 ohm range you will probably get the most accurate response and the most impressive sound quality. The X-Fi Go! is also known to be slightly underpowered for headphones with very large impedances that require higher voltages (like the the HD 650, which has a 300 ohm impedance). The only slight issue is a hissing sound that some times occurs. I noticed with my HD 201 that the hissing only occurs with YouTube videos, while with my CX 300-IIs I hear the hissing in Windows Media Player as well. It depends on your system and headphones. Some may have more hissing, less hissing, or possibly none at all. In my case, the hissing is very quiet and does not annoy me.Don't hesitate to buy this thing. It is a cheap, quality DAC that works as both a quick escape from bad laptop audio and as a good starting DAC for those getting into "serious" listening or music production.

Having had many creative sound products in the past I was curious as to how this was going to go. Would they be better than when I last used them or would they throw enough crap at me to make me want to continue to use the on-board sound that has gotten good enough? When I got the package I opened it up and found the unit, a USB extension cable, driver / application disc, and minimal instruction / warranty pamphlets. The unit itself is a little larger than an average USB thumb drive. It has a USB plug, headphone / speaker jack, microphone jack, LED power indicator, a switch to change between speaker and headphone mode, and a tethered cap for the USB plug. It has a solid feel to it but they felt the need adorn the top of the unit with that black shiny plastic finish that is an excellent finger print magnet. The rest of the unit has a nice textured flat back finish, too bad they didn't make the whole thing like that.So my first hurdle was how do I get this working on my netbook that doesn't have an optical drive? Well naturally I went to soundblaster.com to get the latest driver. I got to the support section of the site and found the product. Under all downloads I don't see any drivers, just a media toolbox trial and creative wavestudio. I hit the manual search section and select my OS (WIN7 64-Bit) and hit submit, same results. I tried other OS selections and got the same. So I guess I can't just go and download drivers. I decided to just plug it in and see what Win7 did with it. It installed some generic drivers and was off and working. Not having the creative drivers installed I was missing all the controls to tweak the sound but I figured this would be a good base test to see how it sounded against the built in sound of my netbook. I played some different kinds of music and would switch back and forth during playback and compare what I heard. In my tests I could tell that the soundblaster had a greater dynamic range than the built in sound chip but it wasn't vastly superior. I also noticed that my CPU usage would jump 10 to 15% over the on-board sound when using the soundblaster in this basic setup. So I wanted to get the creative drivers installed to I could adjust the sound more and play with some of the advanced features. Since I couldn't find out where to download any drivers I ended up getting a USB DVD drive that I had to hook it up and install the drivers from the disc. The install from the disc was one of the usual drawn out creative affairs that I remember from times past. Later on I would discover a link to the driver hidden under the Windows 7 Driver Compatibility link on the support page and then finding the product in the list and then clicking that link. The driver presented is dated 13 Jul 09 so it would appear that there isn't much development on this product. Once the software was finally installed I got access to all the creative control panels and software. Using these tools you are able to adjust the sound and make it sound a lot better using the EQ and other settings. I can also do this with the netbooks built in Realtek sound as well though. In the end I would only recommend this product to someone who needs it as a last ditch solution. It is not convenient to have a thumb drive sized object protruding from your PC for sound but if you damaged your on-board sound somehow something like this may be your only option short of sending the PC in for repair. The product uses quite a bit of CPU power and finding the software and installing it is aggravating. The lack of driver development also concerns me. Maybe they nailed it with the last driver but that isn't usually the case. It did sound better than my on-board sound but not amazingly so.

Long story short - I bought a high-end gaming laptop which had this compromise in the form of a horrible on-board sound card (Clevo P170EM, highly recommended), so I looked right away for a sound replacement. I needed a quick fix for this issue so I went and got the X-Fi Go Pro from an electronic store near me for 50 EUR and have been using it for the past 3-4 months.Let's start with the good: yes, the sound is a lot better than my on-board sound card and it also comes with a nice set of software utilities that has very nice gimmicks like the virtual surround sound which sounds very convincing, overall. But here's where the fun ends: the sound crackles. A lot. It hisses, it crackles, in quiet lapses in games or music you can clearly hear the interference issue and just like the fairy tale about the princess who couldn't sleep on the most extravagant of beds with 20 mattres due to a small pea in the bed sheets, I eventually hear nothing but crackles and sound issues. That said pea used to be insignificant at first, then it went worse and worse as the time went on and now I can't wait to get rid of this little device and get something better, like the FiiO E10.Plus, the software support is not good, especially on Windows 8 - sometimes the sound stays on full volume regardless of what I do, and only re-installation of the drivers several times fixes that. What can I say, I wish I had a bit more patience and would order the FiiO E10 straight away, instead of burning away my 50 EUR. Lesson of the story: even if you're on a hurry, don't compromise too much. You have been warned.

When the conditions are perfect for this product to operate as designed, the sound is truly incredible... but many people will never experience that. Apparently, some internal component which should have been shielded, was not shielded... and so when the X-Fi Go! Pro is used with low impedance headphones, a very intrusive static noise is heard at lower to medium volumes. It sounds as though you are listening to a radio station which is slightly off the correct frequency, and listening enjoyment suffers tremendously. The maker is apparently aware of this problem, as they have created a support topic on their site:[...]They recommend a lengthy list of modifications that should be made to users systems, including disabling hyperthreading and network interface cards to remove the static sound. I followed their recommendations to the letter without experiencing a reduction in noise. Even if these modifications had been successful, I doubt I would trade hyperthreading and network for a correctly functioning sound card.I actually purchased the `X-Fi Go! Pro' to replace my `X-Fi Go!', which had the same problem with static (though not as pronounced) and which suddenly quit working after about a year of use. The installation software that came with both units took approximately 40 minutes and 4 restarts to bring online, followed by an additional 30 minutes for updates to download and install and one additional restart. After all of this, I still had to disable my on-board sound device to allow each unit to function. Certainly not plug-and-play, and certainly somewhat frustrating. If you use this sound card with high impedance headphones, or with any kind of amplifier, the static is resolved and the sound is amazing; but is it amazing enough to counter the negative aspects of the X-Fi Go! Pro?... almost.

Once upon a time, I had an old Toshiba laptop that had a PCMCIA slot, and Creative had an external sound card designed for that slot. It allowed me to speak on a headset mic while playing music AT THE SAME TIME! Just what I needed when broadcasting music over the internet in a 'radio-like' format. However, after a few years, the exposed plastic part of it, protecting the chip board, broke away and the unit itself eventually died a slow death. RIP.Enter newer, more modern laptops WITHOUT pcmcia slots. I needed the ability to talk and play music at the same time because my on-board soundcard didn't have that capability, as nearly all don't. I tried this little guy and found that it didn't have that capability, so I sent it right back. If you don't have an on-board soundcard, or it's really crappy, then I would suggest this, but that's all.I hope Creative comes up with a dual-channel compact mobile soundcard that works with USB one day again soon...

I ordered this Soundblaster THX SB1290 due to the fact that my Dell Inspiron has a microphone integrated into the sound card. This microphone records everything the Laptop hears in the room. This makes it impossible to record anything without unwanted sounds being added to it. With this little addition you can go to the recording properties and disable the microphone function and of course with a recording program installed, you can record "what you hear". Of couse you must listen, while you record, thru a head set or added speaker. This has really made my Dell a funtional recording device that I thought I was getting when I ordered it. It is really easy to use and it is simple to set up.With the Short USB cable, that it is shipped with, you can keep it out of the way, otherwise it does stick out and could get caught on something as you move around. This is the perfect awnser to your recording problems with this type of built in Microphone and sound card. I read a review that said it was built very flimsy, but I have not found this to be the case and with a little care I think it should last for years.

I had used the original X-Fi Go! with Windows 7 and was fairly happy with the sound. I got this one right after upgrading to Windows 8 and also got a X-Fi HD USB. Creative recommends this for gaming over the HD but I have to say the HD provides much better directional sound and THX controls. This thing says THX but after downloading the latest software from Creative I can not access the THX panel that makes the HD sound so good. The sound with the Go! Pro is clearly stereo at times when gaming. I've heard good things about Creative CMSS processing but I can not find an option to turn this on or off. Yeas I have the headphone switch in the right position.I would rate this lower but I think maybe this is a Windows 8 problem that will be fixed.

I have a creative sound cardinstalled in another computer which is amazing, so I thought creative quality will help somewhat. I just installed this on a desktop PC and it works great with my 2.1 speaker system (Behringer MS16's). Noticeably deeper, richer, cleaner sound than the stock onboard sound. It has a whole bunch of different EQ settings which I am still exploring but so far even the basic stuff is sounding better than the Realtek onboard. Easy as pie - just plug into any USB port, download the software from the CD - then choose the Creative as your default sound in the control panel under Sound - and you're good to go. Well worth the money and the fact it is plug and play is that much better. I'll probably just leave it on my PC but it would be really easy to move it over to my laptop if I get the urge. Very pleased and I recommend it especially if you don't have space or don't want to mess with an internal sound card.

Aside from the all the positive reviews on price, quality, audio improvement, etc., there are a few things (technical details) you should be aware before deciding to purchase.1. Min. system requirement, which can be found by doing a Google search on the item and visiting the Creative website (Amazon omitted my original link... why?)2. Now, my Intel Core2 Duo is slightly slower, at 2.0 GHz, but the hardware and software still work. My system exceeds all other min. requirement.3. Depending on the hardware configuration (and the extra 'plug-ins') of your laptop/desktop, you may experience static noise and/or latency, regardless of the quality of your headphones and/or speakers. The Creative Support Forum has posted several tweaks (again, Google it, sorry), which might improve your listening experience. I noticed a significant decrease in statics when the on-board sound card was disabled through the Device Manager; I also disable its IRQ connection through 'Control Panel-->Device Manager-->View tab-->Resources by Connection.'4. If you are using any other USB devices (mouse, keyboard), make sure you follow the IRQ guideline. I discovered that my Logitech Anywhere mouse was using the same IRQ! It takes a bit of playing around (plug devices in and out) to find out if two share the same IRQ. To get to the IRQ page, again, go to 'Control Panel-->Device Manager-->View tab-->Resources by Connection' and scroll to the bottom of the page until you see 'USB Universal Host Controller."5. After following all the suggested tweaks--short of turning off my Wi-Fi, I can still hear a bit of a 'hissing' sound with my Yamaha EPH-50, which are a pair of OK in-ear headphones, but it is tolerable... or should I say, 100x better than listening to the half-dead, unilaterally working OEM sound system on mono.Bottom line: try it, tweak it, adjust the setting console, and play it loud/quiet, but save your receipt and make sure it's returnable, if it just can't please ya. :-)Update on 9/24: So I decided to return the sound card. Reason: I just couldn't get rid of the hissing distortion. It was simply too distracting. This problem might be due to my existing hardware configuration. Or it could be due to IRQ issues. Regardless, the quest for a new card continues...

Don't judge it by it's size, judge it by what it can do. And even though it's barely larger than a USB memory stick, this will improve your on-the-go listening experience.I own a middle of the road laptop, and the internal sound card was seriously lacking. No power, no clarity ... very, very basic. I purchased this from Amazon for a very reasonable price and Prime membership got me 2-day shipping ... this was a very good deal.Installation and set-up was easy. When I plugged my headphones in, it was like going from an AM transistor radio to an iPod. The difference was worth every penny. It's also very portable, and the fact the USB cover is attached to the main body (preventing you from accidentially losing it), makes it a nice touch. The only criticism I would have, it that it's a little too wide. Enough so that when it's plugged in, the neighboring USB port cannot be used. For what it is and it's price, the Go! X-Fi is a worthwhile investment for people who want sound that's much better than the flat, bland or unimpressive soundcard that comes built-in to some laptops.

I played some music through these and listened to them with my Grado SR125s but couldn't really say if I liked how it sounded. I'm not saying it sounded bad or anything... It's just not to my personal liking I guess. YMMV. Since I have another setup for my headphones I don't really mind. On the other hand, I really love listening through these with my Klipsch ProMedia 2.1! The 3D effect really distributes the sound well. You can compare the sound I used to hear to a rope with each individual string as an instrument. The sound from this guy sounds like each string (instrument) was untangled for you to listen to more clearly. I never use my motherboard anymore to listen to music haha. I hope my analogy made sense lol.Anyway, I definitely recommend these if you want to listen to them through desktop speakers. I can't say the same for headphones so you'll have to look in some other review.

I had a PCI-X card installed (also soundblaster) but that died after a few months. The sound quality is very good to me - I am not a big audiophile though. It was nice just popping it into a USB slot and it working. I would use this in other computers over buying a pci card for them. Very satisfied with the purchase. Hopefully it won't die for a long time.

Ive never used external sound card but last night the card in my laptop went out and is too much work taking apart to replace. This device is amazing, gives good quality audio for a great price and is USB plug in. Saves so much time and effort because there is no need to take apart the computer and replace with an expensive card

Works as you'd expect it to. Also comes with a USB extension that's about 6" in case you're nervous about it fitting in a monitor or keyboard USB slot. Plug-and-play perfection for me, using it between a Macbook Pro and a custom built PC and it works like a charm.

Lets face it, the one really bad part of using a notebook computer is often the sound quality. The Creative Soundblaster X-Fi Go! Pro USB Audio System with THX SB1290 is a great way to improve you machine's audio without having to make expensive upgrades at the time of purchase. Now I don't claim to be any kind of audiophile, but I do like some range in the sound from my computers, especially when watching movies or listening to music and this device did the job with a minimum of hassle. The unit does a-lot to improve the quality of sound on even the notebook's internal speakers, but I would strongly suggest getting a decent set of external speakers and plugging them directly into the unit. The unit also comes with a USB extension, which you will likely want to use since plugging audio cables directly into a device plugged into a USB port could cause problems with keeping the unit seated in the port. This is a really great, inexpensive soultion for improving the sound quality of your Windows notebook computer.

I purchased the creative USB X-FI GO! Pro about 4 months ago, I can tell you that it works very well. I'm using it on a 64bit/Windows 8 with no problems. It adds very good sound processing to my laptop. No pop-crackles-fades etc. The software that comes with it are very practical, a good Equalizer/Effects processor (cave, room, jazz club simulations)All in all I would recommend this to anyone looking for a fast and easy why to improve on their laptop sound system.

Bought this because my laptop's headphone jack was faulty. Worked great for a month, but now it won't turn on unless I apply pressure to it in the USB slot. Flimsy connector, can rock it side to side while it's connected. For comparison, my external hard drive has a rock solid USB connection that can't get knocked around... this thing is a piece of crap. And I can't even return it. What a shame.

The X-Fi Go! Pro is a really effective little device for improving the audio output of a notebook computer, so as long as one understands its application and limitations, they should be pleased with its performance. The X-Fi Go! Pro improves a computer's audio out-signal by amplifying and processing the computer's outgoing audio data. So, it can EQ sound (and it comes with well-made software for that task, offering the user a good amount of control over how the sound is EQed, both in presets and in the ability to adjust individual parameters), amplify quiet audio, add clarity to indistinct sounds, or add extra bass/mid/treble to music that needs it (there even seems to be some mild compressing going on, which is a good thing)...basically, just what one would expect it to do. It really does make a noticeable difference compared to onboard laptop audio. The software is easy to install and operate, and it does a really nice job of staying in the background, i.e. not 'getting in the way' like some running programs do. Once you install it, you'll forget it's there (the software, not the X-Fi), which is how it should be.Input-audio seems to be slightly improved, too... nothing drastic, but some vocal recordings I did with the X-Fi sounded a bit clearer than my notebook's internal input produced. The limitations potential buyers need to recognize are only that it isn't a full-fledged audio interface, so don't expect anything on that level. Also, it would have been nice to have two outputs (for multiple sets of earphones or a speaker/earphone combo), but again, that's a feature more normally reserved for more robust interfaces. As it is, it does what it claims to do, it does it very well, and its form factor can't be beat. Well worth the investment.
