A Cadillac lens
The hardest part for me was spending so much money on a lens, however I do realize that you get what you pay for. Overall I’m impressed with the quality and the functionality of this lens. I’ve only had a couple of weeks and haven’t been disappointed at all. I look forward to this spring, summer and fall and really putting it to good use.

Canon RF 70-200mm F2.8 L IS USM is the Best Lens Ever!
Everyone has their favorite lens and each lens has a certain job it can do best. The Canon RF 70-200mm f/2.8 is in a class above all other lenses... and I give it that rating with confidence. When you see images this lens produces, above anything you have ever produced before you want to tell the world about it. My review is quick and to the point - I'll let the images do the talking. For versatility, between the range of 70 and 200mm you have many lenses all in one. Portrait, sports and fast action at a closer distance, mild macro capability with focus able to get down to about two feet and at 200mm... it's impressive... The range that this lens covers makes everything available. Incredible sharpness with precision instantaneous accuracy. Fast, low-light capability with 5 stops of image stabilization means you can get down to shutter speeds like one-tenth of a second where you know you cannot hand-hold a camera perfectly still, yet the shots are sharp and no movement showing in the final images. I could go on, but like I said, images talk best... See if this lens doesn't bring back the best you've ever done... It's doing exactly that for me...

It’s magic
So much better and lighter than the white ef tanks of old. You want this in your kit. First impressions when opening: wow this thing is short and fat. Focus ring is buttery smooth, autofocus is the best I’ve seen from Canon yet. Tripod collar is well balanced when using the battery grip, although I decided to take it off and reduce the weight. Image quality is as good or better than previous ef versions. I’m very happy with this lens.

A couple of minor things
The Canon 2.8 series has always been a goal of mine to own, but never really bought into it until I got the Canon RP and now, I have felt like I have missed out.
Design: The 70-200 is well built and sturdy, and you feel the weight in your hand without it being off balance. It is built perfectly balanced but the throw of the zoom is awkward and a little long. The lens comes with a variable zoom length switch and three different options on the image stabilization. With the long length the lens expands when zoomed the lock is a welcome feature on this lens, compared to the 24-70. The best part of all these lenses it the built-in stabilization and with the in-body stabilization coming in the R5 the lenses are going to be amazing. Canon did choose to vary the filter size from the other 2.8s to a 77mm.
Issues: I have only one issue with the lens, other than price (but you know that going in), and that is the filter size. I wish that Canon would have kept it at the 82mm like the other 2.8s. This would have been nice to have a single set of filters, but you can always buy filter steps to use just one set. It is a little bit annoying when you put over $7,000 into a series of lens (but something that you can deal with).

Final Thoughts: I love the lens and would pair it with the 15-35 if I could only have two, but there are some minor things that I wish Canon had worked a little better on this lens. I am sure the version 2 will fix some of it, but not willing to wait 4-7 years for that. The filter size being different from the other 2.8s is more annoying to me than the zoom throw, but both I can live with.
Would I recommend: Yes, I would absolutely recommend the lens, but I can only say four stars because at $2699 Canon should make sure that everything is perfect with the lens.
