I had the A75, A520 and then this one.
People are always looking at my pictures and ask "What kind of camera do you have?". They think it is some pro model.
The picture quality is great and the features available make it very versitile. Video is also very good.
The battery life is very long with high quality rechargables too. On a recent Grand Canyon trip I took over 600 pictures in 13 days on one set of batteries. Amazing!
Great camera, no doubt!

This camera in any occasion will not let you down, with sharp, clear and precise photos/videos I would recommend this camera to anyone that wants a good start in Digital Photography or does it as a hobby.
In conclusion, I would give this camera a 10/10 score.

So, you ask, "who needs a 28mm lens?" You do! Most people concern themselves with how LONG is their telephoto lens. But, most people who "know" know that it is the WIDE ANGLE lens that is most important---most of the "best shots" are made with a WIDE ANGLE lens. For example, you're in Europe and you are trying to "get a shot" of that Cathedral of Notre Dame over there. You NEED a WIDE ANGLE lens. You are in the California Poppy Fields and you want to get the expanse of the golden-yellow poppy flowers with the huge blue sky filled with white clouds above---you need a WIDE ANGLE lens. You are sitting at thanksgiving dinner and you want to take a photo from the foot of the table with everyone sitting on the left and right---you NEED a WIDE ANGLE lens. You are in the garden of the California Mission and you want to take a photo of the ENTIRE garden surrounded by the mission walls---you NEED a WIDE ANGLE lens. It's Christmas day and you want a photo of the ENTIRE GROUP of visitors in front of the Christmas Tree---you NEED a WIDE ANGLE lens. This is where the 28mm lens on THIS camera comes in! So, you NEED THIS CAMERA! Otherwise you'll be cutting off heads and leaving Aunt Sylvia out of the "Christmas Group Photo" this year---and she'll disinherit you and as a result of not having a wide angle lens you'll live a life of poverty and misery everafter! :o) If you agree or disagree or know of ANY other digital point and shoot camera that has a WIDE ANGLE lens please write, Email:boland7214@aol.
Here's one more wide angle candidate: Kodak EasyShare V705 7.1MP Digital Camera with 5x Ultra-Wide-Angle Dual-Lens Optical Zoom

I can only say - WOW! It is almost impossible to take a bad photo with this camera. Okay so I only use it as a point and shoot, and so can't give a technical review, but the picture quality is absolutely stunning. The images are sharp and the colours are to die for - a lot of my landscape pics look as if they have come out of a magazine. I have used several as wallpaper on my computer, and my husband cannot believe that they have come from my little camera. I took several interior shots in Bolton Castle in the Dales, and even without flash the light quality and detail is awesome. Took some wonderful macro shots of summer flowers as well.
Yes, the USB port cover is flimsy, so I just don't use it. Instead I bought a memory card reader at the same time (as recommended by other A620 users) and it's a doddle. I use a 1gig SanDisk Ultra II memory card and would certainly buy this again. The camera has a good solid feel to it, and the LCD screen which closes up is a great idea as you don't have to worry about scratching it. This is my first Canon and I have to say I would never go back to Pentax or anything else again. Most of my friends have Canon digital cameras and they are head and shoulders above anything else. The non-Canon users all want my A620!
Admittedly it really isn't a pocket camera, and is too bulky - especially when in its case - to fit comfortably into a handbag. For that reason I'm looking to treat myself to the Canon Ixus 750 or 60 as well (best price yet again from Amazon), just something small enough to chuck into my pocket when out walking the dogs, but nothing and no-one will prise me away from my beloved 620. How did I ever live without it?
Sorry if this sounds like a eulogy for Amazon, but I've used them for lots of things and find that the prices and service are always first rate. And if you are only thinking of one camera - stick to Canon (which is what everyone else advised me anyway) and buy this one. You will not regret it.

It was never submerged more than 30 sec at a time. A small amount of water leaked into the case. I recently sent my camara in to have a repair doen to the battery door. Because they found "liquid" in the camera, Canon would no trepair my battery door & is sending it back no longer in working condition - BEWARE!

It has all kinds of features, including some manual control options like white balance, etc. for those people who like to mess with that stuff (I'm more of an Auto person, myself). I used it on vacation last month and was pleasantly surprised at the quality of pictures, after taking only a few test shots to get familiar with the camera. The camera is very easy to use and gives you a basic user manual to get you started, and also a detailed manual to help you find out how everything works on the camera. The movie mode works good, too. The colors come out bright and vivid. The lag time between pictures is minimal, which is one of the main things I hated about my old 1.3mp Panasonic Palmcam, and the 7.1mp makes for some excellent detail in your pictures. The only bad thing about the camera, in my opinion, is that it doesn't have a movement stabilizer (or whatever it is called), so it can be prone to shaking, especially when you zoom using the digital zoom. I like that the camera is small and lightweight, but it is not one of those super thin ones that you feel like you could break in half.
Overall, I think this is a GREAT camera, and I don't think you can find a better camera for the price.

The redeye doesn't work. Seems to be a problem identified by others when I researched on the web. Tried phoning customer service absolutely useless. If you're going to use flash don't buy this camera.

For a semi-pro, there are lot more options that the camera provides to control the shutter speed, aperture, pixellation and many many things which I probably will rarely ( or even never) use.
If you have Windows XP, downloading the pictures from the SD card is easy. You don't even need to install the CD that comes with the camera ( I did'nt), just use the "Microsoft Digital Image Standard 2006" s/w that comes as part of XP.
The menus are quite intutive but there is room for some improvement here. The advanced manual could have been written in a more friendly way not to scare a non-technial mind.

Mostly in animals, but I have that problem now uner control. You just need to play around with the ajustments some. This camera is a Winner and a great one to start with if you have never had a digital camera.
One thing you will need to get for this Camera is a Charger. I would suggest the Sony BCG-34HE4 Super-Quick Battery Charger it comes with 4 rechargeable battery and it is a Great Charger. You can get this also at Amazon too. You will be very Pleased if you do.

I am a loyal Canon customer and the A630 hasn't disappointed me.
