Please note, this product is NOT compatible with the 465CN printer. It states it is compatible with the LC-51 series ink cartridges - it only fits the 2 printers mentioned. Amazon listed this as compatible with the 465CN and it does not fit. Just FYI ... can't speak to its quality.

It seemed fine for the first week but after that, it no longer would feed card stock. I am using Avery 8869 Card Stock and stopped feeding after only about 6 sheets. After examining the loading tray to try to figure out what was wrong, I noticed a small plastic piece broken from the top of the tray; it's a small tab (there are 2 tabs) and they stick out from the top of the tray. It looks like the rollers are not grabbing the stock. I didn't get it from Amazon but I decided to give my review all the same. Also, the colors don't really seem that vibrant. They look a little washed out.

This printer does so much for such a low price it's compelling, however it's far from perfect. First, it's print quality isn't up to the standards of most any HP printer at the same price. It seems to not saturate the ink enough in many, if not most, situations. It will band many times and I do not have any clue as to why. This probably makes it a no go for those who have to have consistently very high quality printing. For casual use and for pure versatility it's fine though and it offers very good scanning and faxing while being wireless at a price I've yet to see from any other manufacturer.The wireless setup on my Sony Vaio required the software, but when a sales representatives wanted to print an order copy direct off his new Apple laptop he did so with absolutely no additional drivers! I was impressed to say the least.This device is pretty good, but Brother really needs to step up their print quality because they could really have the best all around multi-function machine if they would just get that key element up to the competition.

This is my second MFC by Brother - I had my first one about 2 years, and finally it stopped printing in both red and yellow. I always used cheap ink - not Brother ink - so this may have contributed to it - but the money I saved in the 2 years buying cheaper ink - easily paid for a new MFC - so I'd do it again. I'm very pleased with the quality of this new MFC - I like the clarity of the options, making it very easy to fax, even if you've never owned a fax machine before. I have mine hooked up to an EAD (answering machine) and the fax will pick up if it hears a fax on the other line when the answering machine picks up. I haven't used the scanner yet - but I'm sure it works as well, if not better, then the old one. Overall - this is an excellent MFC for the price, doesn't take up a lot of room, ink is very easy to change, and if you want to buy off brand ink - it is easy enough to find. I would definately buy another Brother in the future.

I bought this product to replace the 210C which was not printing very well. The setup was a breeze and I can now print from both my desktop which is connected via a USB cable and from my notebook using WIFI. The print quality is very good. Great value for the money!

I bought Brother MFC-465CN Inkjet Multi-Function Center. I hardly took 15-20 pages in 2 months period and mostly with black color. Now the CYAN (BLUE) cartridge is empty and the printer won't work even if you want to take printouts with black only. I contacted Customer Service and I was told to buy blue cartrige and replace and then you can take black printing. What a stupid function? Good way to make money. I wish I had returned it within a month, if I had known this. Guys, if you have plenty of money, buy this printer. You will end up paying 50-60$ minimum if you take even few printouts. Customer Service will also recommend the same to buy new cartridges. I made a fool out of myself buying this brand.

I recommend this machine to anyone who want to buy a compact, clever and inexpensive all-in-one printer.It was only $99 when I purchased it last weekend on Amazon. It was by far the best value available from Frys, Best Buy or Amazon. The 4 ink cartridge slots (black, blue, yellow, red) are among the least expensive anywhere (only $15 for a 5 cartridge set on Amazon!!).If that wasn't great enough. It even lets you browse the contents of your memory card from one of its memory card readers tucked neatly above its paper try.I am so happy I bought this machine.

I have had this printer for about 2 weeks now and am very pleased to the point that I felt ready to write this review. Set up has many steps, but the printer has many features. However, the instructions are very clear, easy to follow, and everything works as planned. I do not know yet how the cost of cartriges will offset the low cost of the printer, but so far everything has gone smoothly and all functions (scanning, printing, faxing) work great! I'm a cranky customer when I spend money for things that don't work as advertised, but I recommend this printer.

We bought this printer when we moved into a small apartment between houses. We were looking for small, inexpensive, and temporary - not intending to use it for more than a few months. Much to our suprise, the MFC-210 has proven to be a capable, reliable printer. 2 1/2 years later, it is sitting in the corner of the room. On TOP of our old HP printer! Still in use every day.The printer does not feel particularly well-made. It's light, plasticky, and the cover feels flimsy. But the print quality is superb, it's reasonably fast, and gone through many thousands of pages with no fall off in reliability or print quality at all.The one minor annoyance with this printer is that the driver noticably slows down boot time on my PC.

Be aware that if even one print cartridge is out of ink, all print functions will stop, even those that require no ink. You will be unable to scan or send a fax. My yellow cartridge is empty after maybe 10 pages. The phone rep. said that the printer will clean the print heads daily, so ink is being used even if you aren't printing.

You will be disappointed in this printer. It promises much but delivers poorly. The most annoying thing is its inability to do really basic things...Biggest problems:1) constant jams (when picture printing)2) general misfeeding of paper3) often feeds multiple pages at a time (making duplex printing nearly impossible since it constantly turns out wrong)For a printer with so many features it should have a software feature for printing duplex (telling you how to put the paper back in)...but don't waste your time figuring it out on your own since the printer will simply double-feed pages and ruin your attempts at saving paper anyways.In summary, there are many great features offered by this printer, but what good are all the fancy bells and whistles when it can't do the simple stuff properly?

Brother MFC-5490CN a very good multi function printer once the configuration for scanning to AOL email was established. Had to route the same via PDF format in order for it to be successful.

My biggest problem is that the machine says that the ink is empty when it is clearly visible that there is actually quite a bit of ink left. Also, when replacing one of the colors, the machine will "clean" until it then proceeds to tell you that all the colors need replacing. I hardly ever use the color, yet I actually end up replacing it more than I do the black ink because it is smaller and it seems to disapear on its own.

Have been using it for three months now in a busy home office. The scanning technology is quite good, with an effective automatic feeder and decent software controls. As others have alluded to, this is not a world class color printer. Not that color prints are bad, but they are no better than average, and print time depending on resolution can be slow.I frequently use the scanner interface as a photocopier, and plain black and while copies turn out good. So far the ink appears to be lasting about 10-20% longer than Brother estimates. Replacement ink pricing is competitive with the manufacturer's competitors.The wireless interface is great, and setup was a ten minute process. While I would consider myself having advanced networking skills, a "normal" person who has set up a home wireless network should have no problems getting it working in about the same time.Printed two 4x6" photos as a test, and like color copies, I would rate the quality as average. This was using cheap photo paper from Staples, so it is conceivable a better quality paper might bring slightly improved results.Instructions for the relatively basic answering machine are confusing in the manual. In fact while the overall manual is quite extensive, it is not well organized. One additional comment about the answering machine is the annoying fact that after you play back a message, the ability to record new messages has to be manually reset. It's just a single button push, but numerous times I have forgotten to re-initiate it.

I Have not had this unit very long but, so far it works very well. It was easy to setup on my network both wired and wireless. I replaced two Epson MFC 6000FX and 7000 series printers with this one. They printed well when they worked without streaking images. When I would do a print head cleaning the Epson would use 50% of the ink. Very expensive!!!! No more Epson for me.Oh by the way the "Duribright long life Epson paper turns yellow within about one year.

Been using this printer since christmas, was easy to set up and so far works great. Sends and receives faxes no problem, print is also good, too soon to talk about ink usage, but still going strong with the cartridges that came with the unit. Only drawback I see so far is that Brother should have put in an envelope by-pass, there isn't one so you have to take out all the paper, put in your envelope and print it, then re-load all the paper, PITA. How could the designers miss this one. Other than that, I would recommend this printer.

I am extremely please with this printer. It operates exactly as advertised. I was looking for a printer that had all of the multi-functionality (print, fax, scan, & copy) as well as one that would print up to 11x17.Easy transaction; great purchase.

I have had three HP printers and something always went wrong with them. It is not because they were subjected to lots and lots of use either.So when my last one broke down, I said "enough with HP already". A coworker suggested buying a Brother printer. He said the ones he has had are real workhorses and has never had a problem with them. The only reason he has had more than one is to upgrade to a later model. He also said the prices are very good, which is another reason it is affordable to upgrade if you choose.I am so glad that I took his advice. I love the features on the MFC-465cn. It is fast, quiet and so easy to use. It didn't come with a lot of needless software like my HPs did, and the price was phenomenal. I couldn't beleive that I could get some a great printer as such a great price. I couldn't be happier.

I was skeptical about buying this unit after reading some of the other reviews, so I thought I would share my experience.My setup: connected via ethernet connection to Airport Extreme, accessed by old G5 tower and new MacBook Pro both running 10.5.3.Setup was a breeze. The software install took about 5 minutes. I was quite surprised that I did not have to further update anything from the net.Connection was simple although the location of the ethernet port and USB port is odd.Calibration check passed out of the box.Plays well with phone line (doesn't interfere with voicemail or anything like that)Scan feature works better than I had expected. Works well from the icon is the menu bar and allows for some great preset tuning depending on what you want to do. I used one of the custom presets to do simple B&W scans of receipts for expenses and can even default the folder it saves to.I don't use this as a primary printer (have color laserjet) but printing is ok. A bit slow for my tastes, but I bought the unit primarily as a scanner, fax and copier.My only real complaint so far is the ridiculous packaging. Stickers, tape and all sorts of crap you have to pull off. After unboxing Apple products this is a real shocker but only lasts a few minutes.

I was very impressed with the amount of features in this one single printer. You can copy and fax all with out using the computer. Printing and scanning can be down by pressing buttons on the printer itself or by operating it from the computer. I highly recommend it to everyone. The only downfall is that the USB cable used to connect to the computer or laptop is not included in the box, you have to go buy it yourself. Other than that, Great buy.

This printer will not do ANYTHING (including faxing or scanning) unless all four ink cartridges are full, and will register empty cartridges when there is plenty of ink left. I am definitely in the market for another printer, as it gets to be really too expensive to be replacing color cartridges that just dry out after a little while (I print almost exclusively in black, always on the greyscale setting). I suspect that Brother makes a lot on the backend selling cartridges for this insatiable machine.

This is a nice printer - with one deal-breaker: It uses an insane amount of ink to clean itself!! I print color copies very infrequently as I also have an HP Laser printer on the same network. I use the HP for 99% of my printing (and I don't even use the HP that often!) The Brother MFC 5440 cn cleans itself so often that it uses up cartridges with which I have only made 6 or fewer color prints with!! To add insult to injury, if ONE of the three color cartridges is empty, it won't print a black-and-white page EVEN IF THE BLACK IS FULL!! If I had to do it all over again, I'd avoid Brother printers. They are just too thirsty. Oh, one last thing. I thought if I turned the power off to stop the cleaning (so much for the fax function), that would stop the cleaning and therefore save the ink. WRONG! One has to completely UNPLUG the printer in order to stop the automatic cleaning cycles!!!
